Thanks Driftdog. It was a situation which happened at the weekend and nobody was available to take the dog. The police would not take it and the old lady had no transport to take it anywhere. What happens in this situation? I was under the impression the police have to take the dog, but obviously as there was nobody to take it to a police station, what happens? Turn the dog out on the streets? Someone should have to take responsibility for these sort of situations.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just wanted to say as well that it was the staff at Scottish SPCA who advised Hollys owner to register her lost on Dogs LostLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to clarify what should happen when anyone finds a stray dog in Scotland. If possible (safe for you and the dog) secure/restrain the dog so that it is not in any danger. If you can, take the dog to the local Police station or contact your local district council who will contact the local dog warden, they will come out to collect (normally only within normal working hours) the dog. The dog warden will also come out even if the dog has not been restrained. Please do not take the dog to the local SSPCA as they cannot accept stray dogs from the public. Obviously if the dog is injured in some way this may change. I cannot speak for the Police but unfortunatly in a stray dog situation the SSPCA cannot come and collect them. The SSPCA can only deal with stray dogs brought in from the Police stations and through the dog warden so if your dog is missing do still come to the centres to look for your dog. Is it possible for this advice to be posted on the notice board at all so as to clear up any misconceptions regarding the SSPCA and stray dogs?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Someone had taken this dog in, just across the road. It is an old lady who could not get to the SSPCA kennels to hand over the dog.the police and the SSPCa would not help at all. Very disappointing. Owner got her back through word of mouth only.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is good news I'm so glad.  I hate to see these lovely dogs missing out there and they can't be easy to lose!  Welcome home Holly, maybe it's your birthday next month in which case you deserve a big cake and a microchip! xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
