Hello everyone! Sorry I couldn't get on here yesterday to thank everybody, have been away on business and have missed all of the excitement myself! Snoopy is staying with us for a while and settling in nicely. I've just got in from work and he's let me give him lot os strokes and scratches. He's looking a little thin but we'll soon sort that out. I have so many people to thank: Jan (Xena's Mum) for her fantastic response on the day we lost him producing posters and generally helping keep my mind together. Hannah, Lyn, Viv and Paulette in the village for their constant checking the cage, putting food down for him and encouragement for me.  Maggie who was fostering Snoopy who has been over everyday with her dog Travis for pounding the fields everyday. John Randall and his wondeful team at the farm for letting us set the trap in his barn and for spending hours whilst they were ploughing fields looking for him. John (Spaceman) for coming over and spending two full days walking miles around the fields. Gloria, the fantastic dog warden who was brilliant and so supportive, the people of Sussex are so lucky to have her. Doglost - thank you - it just works. Finally, the whole vilage of Fletching, I'm concerned that the village will need a new project to get it's teeth into! Thanks for the offers of teas, coffees, toilet trips and spending your time just generally looking out for him It is so appreciated by myself and Catherine and of course GAR.  Stephen    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everone, Stephen phoned me this morning to say Snoopy was lying in the Trap! No doubt he will be along later to update us all on how Snoopy is.  THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TO THE VERY KIND PEOPLE OF FLETCHING you have been wonderful.  Such a nice village full of very nice people, it is brilliant how you have all pulled together to help a bunch of stangers and a scared little dog. With all the bad things that are going on in this world it is so heartening to know that true humanity still exists. God Bless you all.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for the update....every morning i check Snoopys page hoping that he's in the "reunited" section.  It does sound like you are so close to catching him....he's definately dragging it out for long enough!  I think that its great that he is actually going in the trap....lets hope that before long he is going to set it off.  It sounds like you have got great support from the local residents and from Gloria - there are a lot of people willing Snoopy home safely.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi all, Continued fun and games yesterday morning, all food gone from around and inside the trap (including fastened to the hook itself) but he managed to not pull it hard enough to make the dor close. Even some back and white hairs on the blanket.  Later on in the day the door fell on it's own accord so it must have been so close to getting him. Was so convinced he'd be there today I got there about 7.30 to find all food untouched and obviously no sign. Met one of the ladies from the village on the cricket field and some buscuits had gone from her garden that she had left out. Met up with Gloria the dog warden this afternoon, she's very happy the cage is in the right place and we're now just playing a waiting game. Giving him enough food to keep him going but not letting him get full. It is really important that for this to work now, no one else feeds him. So please if anybody in the village has beenleaving any titbits out for him please don't - fingers, toes and everything else crossed, we're nearly there... As John says, really welcome the continued sightings - there hasn't been one now since Sunday afternoon.   Once again, thanks to all - you have been simply brilliant. Stephen.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Edge of the seat and waiting for news here too!
I was elated to see Snoopy ?with my own eyes? on Sunday. I agree he?s unlikely to give himself up ? and this boy can certainly run like the clappers! He?ll be used to the local area now ? walkers, dog walkers, the school, the road etc. Talking with Stephen on Sunday, I understand one idea is to move the trap. I?d say it's important to keep the sightings up ? it gives a good picture of where he?s hanging around, proves he?s fit and well ? and keeps up the interest.   Personally, I was amazed to see him appear out in the open - in the middle of a large, freshly ploughed and sewn field. It destroyed my idea that he?d stick to the hedgerows and coppices. But, it also suggests he was on a mission ? perhaps he?s had a bit of success hunting down by the stream (pheasants!). Watching where he spooked and ran towards also gives an idea of where he?s hiding up.   I?d add he?s picked a great area to go awol. Lovely countryside, great people! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just logging in for any news on Snoopy.  I am sorry he is still on the loose but it is great that he is still being sighted on a daily basis :-)  It sounds like the trap is going to be the most likely chance of catching him at the moment unless someone can capture him in their garden.  Sending continued best wishes to all those who are searching for Snoopy - i have got everything crossed that you are able to capture him safely. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone, Snoopy was seen twice today, first near the recreational ground but ran off down towards the freshly ploughed corn fields. Seems he ran off after seeing a golden labrador. Second time was about forty minutes later by John who saw him in one of the fields before darting off back up toward the town/cricket field. Come on Snoopy!!! Time to let yourself be found.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yup, doubling up on the standing around bit seems a bit pointless. Still happy to help if you want to try and find his den - if he hasn?t moved on, he must a nice bed somewhere. Or if you want me to have a wander with one of my springers. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi John,   I'm going to be over about midday tomorrow. We've been advised by the Dog Warden not to spend too much time trying to track him down by calling him and leave him to come and look for the food - so the hunt has turned more into sitting and waiting.... If you're going to be around please pop by, but I'd hate you to make sepcial trip to spend your time standing and watching! Cheers, Stephen.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone, Update from today is that we haven't had any sightings today and the food by the trap has not been touched wich is a shame. Catherine has been over there, has as Maggie who he was staying with and so has Paulette. Lyn - thank you for all you are doing. Hannah - I've lost your mobile number,  could you contact me on 07985 807536 this evening if you get this message. I'm going to be over tomorrow but may not be able to get there first thing to see if the food has gone and if so replace it. Can I ask that at the moment we try and keep all the food in the same place so that the little monkey doesn;t start finding other places to eat! Thanks all, Stephen.   PS - and Happy Birthday to XM!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Come on Snoopy it's my birthday today so you could give me the very bestest of presents by just popping into that trap :) I would like to say a very heartfelt thank you on behalf of the Rescue to everyone in Fletching for their wonderful help and support in the search for Snoopy. I actually dont know if Snoopy was born in the Shelter but if he wasn't he would have been very young when he was taken in.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

SORRY I AM TOO FAR AWAY TO HELP, DOING WHAT I CAN THROUGH THE POWER OF THOUGHT.  A TIN OF SMELLY SARDINES OR PILCHARDS MAY BE USEFUL TO CARRY JUST INCASE HE IS CLOSE BY, DROP THE CONTENTS ON THE GROUND AND HE WILL PICK UP THE SCENT AND APPROACH THE FOOD. I CAN HELP ON SUNDAY IF YOU NEED EXTRA HELP.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND STAY POSITIVE.......HE WILL GIVE HIMSELF UP SOON....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi John, The farmer (another John!) and him team have been wonderful, happily letting us trample across the fields and have also spotted him. They're even patrolling in the farm trucks especially to look for him. Some news tonight, I had a call about 9pm with a possible sighting outside a house opposite the church. He went into the back garden but unfortunately after a while he managed to disappear under a hedge back into the fields. If it was him, once again it shows he's keeping to the same area and fingers crossed he'll pick up the scent of the food by the cage. Peter - if you read this, thank you for trying tonight, it is really appreciated.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I was going to suggest frying up some bacon on a camp stove ? from what you?ve said, perhaps that should be kebabs! Can?t help tomorrow ? lets hope he shows up. If not, then I can come over Friday. I had a friendly wave from the farmer ploughing when I?d strayed off the foot path today. I?m sure they?ll be ok about it if they know we?re looking for Snoopy ? but I?d feel happier if we have permission. Cross country, the Piltdown pond is surprisingly close ? lots of ducks, and a sheep field opposite. If it was him on the A272, and he?s not desensitised to sheep, then that?s what he may have got wind of. I?ll login for an update Thursday night ? good luck tomorrow. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi John, To the best of my knowledge, Snoopy was born in a refuge in Greece and until these last three months he has spent his entire life ineither Greek or UK shelters and kennels. If I'm wrong I'm sure Xena's Mum will know his history. Having said all that, I'm sure natural instinct will make him very excited by pheasants. He was possibly spotted back on sunday afternoon in a game field opposite Atherall's farm on the opposite side of the village. Gloria is quite convinced that he wont come to call, if he comes to someon at all it'll be if they spot him, stand side on from him and just let him come closer. Some quiet words of encouragement or a nice song may do it. A bit of smelly food in the pocket will definitely help! Will be over there on Friday, Catherine will be over tomorrow, any help or even just a cheerful face will be much appreciated.   Cheers, Stephen.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You are all doing a brilliant job & I'm sure that dear Snoopy will be caught soon.Smelly food in that cage will prove irresistable. A little Terrier cross that ran off back in December last year in West London was , I'm certain, sleeping in a local schools ground overnight.Whenever he was spotted in the evening he would bolt off & run under the gates.Sounds like Snoopy might be opting for the safe & quiet refuge of the school whilst it's empty overnight. Great that he's staying in the area.Good luck & fingers crossed he is back with you soon. XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just an afterthought ? do you know anything about his background. Is he a rural or a town dog, has he got strong hunting instincts? The hedgerow at the bottom of the corn field being ploughed today is teaming with pheasants. This is springer heaven! Don?t think this is on a footpath ? apologies if you get any complaints! It was drizzling when I walked ? I?d guess Snoopy was doing the sensible thing - curled up fast asleep somewhere!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Stephen ? we exchanged voicemails earlier. I live about 10miles away in Heathfield ? saw a cross link on the ItsASpringThing forum. I?m not familiar with the walks round there, though I?ve driven through Fletching many times. Have you got posters up at the clay shooting ground? I walked the two big fields behind the cricket pitch today with one of my springers. Unfortunately gave a local lady a false alarm ? but its good she spoke to me! I also parked up by the cricket field when the school was turning out. No sign of Snoopy. Hope he turns up soon ? I?m free Friday if you need another pair of legs. John

Its great that you have Gloria on side - on the occasions when i have spoken to her re missing dogs she has been so helpful.  We are very lucky to still have her services in Wealden as a lot of the councils have now started using the "Animal Wardens"! On the very odd occasion that i've spoken to them, they have been less than helpful!  Not great if you've lost a dog!  My sister has logged a dog today on behalf of someone else (Monty the choc lab) and unfortunately the area he is missing from does not have its own dog warden.  Fingers crossed that the cage works - i have got everything crossed that Snoopy makes another appearance and you manage to catch him.  I am so sorry that i can't be any help.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone, I stuck update slips through all the nearby doors and to the secretary at the local school who said she would pop one in the children's reading bags, heavily pointing out that dog lost exists. The spirit in the village has been fabulous, i just want to thank everybody once again, it was great that he was seen this morning. I met up with the local Dog Warden (Gloria if anyone spots her), we have set up a cage and put food down as well as tying a towel from Maggie, who he has been living with to try and tempt him. Hannah - thank you for your call this morning, I'm going to pop back over this afternoon and have a sit for a bit to see what happens. Might ask if you can join the rota to check the cage periodically if that's OK! One update from Gloria - she says we're likely to have more success if we don;t call him, sit sideways on from him and just sing quietly! He's very unlikely to come to us otherwise. Having said all thay the cage is probably going to be the best bet. Thanks again, Stephen.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Stephen, is there anyone local who can get people in the village who are looking for Snoopy to go onto the doglost website and register, they can then update on Snoopy's page and you will know what's being done.   Great that he's been sighted today, do hope he can be caught soon, he looks a dear little man, bless him. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I saw Snoopy this morning, about 9am, running like the clappers across the cricket pitch in Fletching - I called out his name and my dog tried to play with him, but he just ran on to the stile and out into the cow's field. I walked back to ring the numbers on the posters (by the road) and returned but couldn't see any sign. At least Snoopy is staying in the area. The school bell had just been run when Snoopy appeared (from the direction of the school) - perhaps, like Stephen suggested, Snoopy likes the sound of children. Fingers crossed Stephen...but good news that he's staying in the area.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi all, A long day! Arrived in the cornfield about 8am with some bacon and sauage and left it in the bottom corner. No sight or sound, I met Maggie who he has been living with for an hour and then Catherine arrived about 11am and we stayed there together, spoke to one of the farm guys and no-one saw anything. I left Catherine there at about 12.30pm and headed to work. Had a call at 3pm from a wonderful lady called Paulette who spotted him on the main road out of Fletching, around the farm shop in the direction of the A272 towards Piltdown. Catherine and Paulette went to the scene (very busy roads so very concerning) but he didn't re-appear.   Just been back over this evening to poster down towards the A272 and also Piltdown, had a stroll through the field but no sounds. Heading over again tomorrow morning to meet with the local dog warden, also going to pop into the Goldbridge kennels. I need advice on how to get people to share their sightings here on the web. There's lots of people in the village all spending their time looking for him, but not being local is making it really hard to get chance to speak to everybody. Also is anybody else having trouble with the search functionality, When I type in Snoopy it does not work. I can only find him if I go via 'New Dogs Lost' Cheers, Stephen.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We believe he was seen three times yesterday (between about midday and 3pm) at the bottom (to the right - if anyone goes, just follow the hedgerow, with the freshy ploughed field to your right) of the cut down maize/corn field behind the cricket ground. Going to pop over now and try and draw him out with some breakfast.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone, Catherine and I were taking Snoopy to a new home around lunchtime and took him out for a wander around the cricket field and through the village of Fletching. He slipped the lead outside of the Griffin pub about 12.30 to 1pm, and headed back towards the farmer's fields behind the cricket ground. He was spotted sometime in the next hour or so in fields opposite Atherall's farm.  Talking to the local people, who have been wonderful, it is possible to go right from the cricket field to the farm by going through Sheffield Park. Thank you to Xena's mum for getting posters printed this afternoon, we have already got lots in the village but will do the surrounding area tomorrow.  Snoopy is timid and scared but he also let me put a harness on him today and also happily let me walk him on the lead. FIngers crossed he stays in that triangle based around the back of the Griffin pub.    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I presume this is Fletching near Uckfield?/If so then we are on the borders so postcodes BN and RH close to the east sussex kent border need to be on alert. I would suggest contacting the dogwarden and councils for all these areas as we dont know which way they will move. Maybe they will remain near the pub- if it does food then nice smells might entice. it may be worth having a word with the pub and if they have a garden maybe they could leave food out to try and keep them in this area. Posters out as wide a spossible- be worth mentioning to local schools Fletching CEP School - Fletching - Uckfield - East Sussex - TN22 3SP - Telephone 01825 722356  office@fletching.e-sussex.sch.uk      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to see Snoopy is missing, thanks Xenas Mum for registering his details on DL and updating us, great a photo has been uploaded. We will do all we can to help in the search for him.   As you know the area needs to be postered as much as possible.  Posters can be printed by selecting Dog Poster 1  just above Dog Information (you must be logged in).  Contact vets and rescues, try and leave a poster with them  (you can find vets in the area by clicking on the logo right hand side just underneath Latest Missing photo).  Do update us on who has been contacted ie DW’s etc and if you have started postering.  Great he has been MICROCHIPPED.  Good luck and hope he is found soon.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Snoopy was being transported between Foster Homes - this very timid rescue dog who slipped his lead and ran in a blind panic from the front of the Griffin Pub past the church into the farmers field behind the cricket ground between 12:30 and 12:45. This was a toilet stop and we desperately need help as the rescue has no one in this area. Snoopy does not know this area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
