Thank goodness Monty has been found and he is well. Perhaps we shall have to educate the public instead of the government, as far as checking for microchips are concerned. If we all insist on a dog being scanned in a case like this, more dogs might be home in their owner's arms. What else can we do if the government won't help, but take things into our own hands? We can lobby all vets too of course.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just the best news !! Thank you so much to the lady who found Monty, cared for him so well, but then gave him back when she saw the posters. I just had a feeling that this was the sort of thing that had happened, but doesn't it give great encouragement to owners in similar situations !! Well done to everyone who has worked on this, and welcome home Monty xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank  you all so very much for your help and with the posters. We are so plaeased Monty is  home safe. So grateful for everyone here. The lady did phone straight away after seeing the posters. Shame after she found him near all those houses she did not go back and ask but then maybe just thought he had been left there. It shows how important posters are. As to the microchip, we are unsure yet.The owner was so overwhelmed. Another friend who has the brother, says she thinks a nurse works part time at the vets we think he may have gone too has another brother of that litter. We will find out more. Why he was not scanned as standard procedure?. We do not know yet what was said to the vets. It is something I always thought they did now or should do. I also believe Microchips should be  on all dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is such good news, welcome home Monty!   What a pity the vet didn't think to scan him, he would have been home a month ago - no doubt if if had been Gordon Brown's dog we would now be seeing the change in the law we have all been asking for.   OK, rant over, stay safe now Monty xx

BRILLIANT news MONTY is home, just had a phone from Gill.  A lady who visits the area once a month found him the day after he went missing, he had been involved in an RTA, she took him home and to the vets, he only needed minor treatment.  When returning to the area she seen a poster and contacted the owner immediately.  He has been well looked after, even clipped, lady would not take any reward.  His owners, Gill and everyone who has helped search for him are so pleased to see him home.   This proves the importance of keeping up with the postering, not to give up and to go further afield in your search. Welcome home Monty, this has made my day.  THANK YOU to the finder and all who have helped look for him, POSTERS doing their magic once again.  Have asked Gill for a REUNITED photo.   Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Gillie, sorry to read still no news. I think we have to stay positive on this and hope Monty has been picked up. I think it is definitely worth getting something in the local papers and freebees, and informing all the Cairn Terrier breeders and breed clubs. They will also be more able to tell you if they think he would be old enough to hunt. Sorry I have no experience of terriers, so cannot form an opinion myself. I would have thought that he would still be able to find rabbit droppings, horse dung and such like, which other dogs have lived on before. Are there any stables in the area or outbuildings which have not been checked, and is it a dog walking area? Just thinking that someone may have seen him and simply taken him home without reporting it. It may not even have been Monty that was clipped by the car, but another dog. I think you have to keep up the publicity and postering, and hope you get a break through. Groomers, vets, pet supplies, are good places to poster. Good Luck with it.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is no update on Monty I am sad to say, unless he was taken,we have searched on still, It is not knowing as unsure whether he had been clipped by a car, if only that person had stopped!.  There is the rabbit holes as well, he could have gone down. Does anyone think a Ten Month old could survive on his own? It is really very young and not mature enough to hunt really. I know others have been found after weeks, maybe though they are adult. Cairns are quite hardy but he is very young really. The area is much fields of farm crops and woods. The owners own son who farms so much of the area have now cut the main crops he is not there in now cut  fields  but no other sightings Thank all here for all the help and posters, so much appreciated Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to Gill to let her know about the posters, which have now been emailed.  They are doing a great job helping owners in their search.  The area is very open land.  Gill will update us a.s.a.p.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is thought the dog went with his mother and she went back home a short while after,he did not come back, there are many fields and wooded area's near, and farm crops. Someone said a dog may have been hit by a car on the main road, he then thought the dog may have ran into the field, which is a little suspicious as he did not have time to stop and say which way he ran.  I am doing this for an older lady. we have put up posters and searched and searched, nothing seen of him at all. Hoping he maybe was scared and ran,but hopefull. Been in touch with homes in the area and he is Microchipped as well so they should be able to scan him but phoning regulary as well. Posters on near by places and further away too. Many thanks.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Gillie, sorry to hear this, but thank you for registering with Doglost. We will do all we can to help you. Have you notified all local vets, dog wardens, dog pounds and animal shelters, as well as police. You will need to keep doing this over the coming days, and visit the pounds in person. Descriptions can be vague, and dogs can be re-homed after only seven days. Your posters can be printed off now. To find your poster click towards the top left of page where it says 'Dog poster 1'. Place each one in a clear plastic sleeve to protect from the weather, and keep putting more up, and handing them out to dog walkers in the area. These people will then be your eyes and ears when you are not around. If you could walk the area with the other dog, early morning and late afternoon, this is the most likely time for a dog in hiding to break cover searching for food. If you have a favourite squeeker toy, try using that. It may just do the trick, and coax Monty out. Dogs do tend to hole up for quite a while if clipped by a car, so do not lose hope. Take some of his bedding to the area along with some smelly food and find a safe place to make a den. You can also place articles of clothing here with owners scent on. Also, place adverts, or an article in each of the local papers and free papers covering the area, and see if the local radio will make an announcement. Good Luck, and stay safe Monty xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
