Mick's mum. I took the call from you on Saturday when you first registered your boy missing and I felt for you as you were so upset. But i knew I could say to you with confidence we would get him back thanks to our fantastic volunteers. Isn't it wonderful that there are others in this world who will step in to help people they have never even met before? Nice work everyone involved in this and welcome home Mick. Stay safe now. p.s Mick's Mum, the biggest thanks we get is when owners who have lost their dogs and are then, thankfully, reunited, stay on board and help others. Sure you have noticed GU postcodes are rather busy at the moment and who better to help others than someone who has been through the nightmare themselves? xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for all of your very king wishes. Mick is, at this very moment, savouring a pig's ear! Yes, we will get him chipped once his foot is sorted out! it was on the cards anyway, but the vet and I wanted to wait for him to finish a course of antibiotics before we did anything else with him! He is very happy walking on the lead and we will continue to keep him on the lead until the summer when I can devote more time to really training him properly - he's pretty good already, but obviously not good enough! We are tickled with his choice of bed-fellows and believe that he is a sheepdog in greyhound clothing! Mick and I have driven the roads this morning, Mick safely and warmly tucked up in the back of the land rover, whilst I took down posters and left notes at Blackdown and the pubs and shops to say that Mick was home safe and well. We have been overwhelmed with the support offered, both emotionally and practically. Thanks so much and we hope to be able to return the favour to someone else one day. Very gratefully yours, MicksMumLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Remember I said this morning that greyhounds hate the cold and he will be somewhere warm and dry?????!!!!!! Well I wasn't quite anticipating him cuddled up with a flock of sheep to be honest, but you get my point!! SO glad Mick is back home with you and none the worst for his ordeal. Please please get him chipped now, and try to get some rest all of you after all your hard work. WELL DONE EVERYONE, especially Mick, for being a clever greyhound ~ you'll always find them on the best seat in the house, ask my five!!! X Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you to everyone for your support! We are delighted to have Mick home again. He is thin, very tired, very hungry and thirsty and with a very sore toe, but otherwise he is fine. He smells a bit like sheep manure though! A bath will be a good thing and a visit to the vet to sort out the injured toenail. Then we will take down the posters and take some chocolates to the farmer who found him, not to mention mistyandsashasmum and eris!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi MicksMum have you thought of putting an add in the Midhurst and Petworth Observer their number is 01243532532 you have to phone them before midday on Tuesday I think anything is worth a try. I will put posters up down by Midhurst Grammer School as lots of children come from your way to there. Will spread the word as much as possible. When it comes to the police you have to keep phoning them as messages are not always passed on. Eris it was lower down I heard a dog barking and am going back 2morrow. Thanks for the flyers Yasa and Majorjet will print some off for 2morrow. Keeping everything crossed here for good news soon. Come on Mick be seen darling but most of stay safe until we find you xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went up into Blackdown Park and spoke to a number of people in the houses there, most already seemed aware of him being missing and one couple were going out walking this afternoon and said they were taking a spare lead with them. Then went to the top of Blackdown with Binoculars so we could see over the Cotchets farm area from high up, and also from the temple. No sign I'm afraid but we spoke to lots of people and made them aware he was missing, as well as speaking to some horse riders. There were dogs barking on blackdown, a terrier with a stick and a couple of spaniels but they were closer to the aldworth end so unlikely to be the dog you heard. I'm pretty sure he will be lower down the slopes outside the fencing as it was considerably warmer lower down, snow was still lying at the top of Blackdown and I really can't see him trying to get back up that high. Even if he could get through the fence. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

mistyandsashasmum was sure that she heard Mick's high pitched bark opposite the vale wood area. We walked all around there, but to no avail. The valleys are pretty heavily wooded and difficult to see anything. It is unlikely that he will be within the fenced Blackdown area. Thanks Eris for distributing posters too. Found lots more houses that I think I will leaflet ... We are overwhelmed with the support, but I am worried that we are too late?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been out there 2day and met his owners thought we could hear him barking in the woods. Posters ped in at the vets in Midhurst. Really wishing you all the luck you deserve here. (sorry if 2day was a wild goose chase for you) I know I heard a dog out there. I am off back up there 2morrow please stay safe Mick untill you are found xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Going to some posters off at the Noahs-Ark and Lickfold Inn. Then will walk up towards Blackdown via the park (Blackdown house area) as he may have got into there. We will be the ones walking with the rough collie if you see us. For those without a map the area he was last seen in was http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|fernhurst#t=l&map=51.05298,-0.68766|15|4&dp=841&loc=GB:51.04866:-0.71787:14|fernhurst|Fernhurst,%20Haslemere,%20Surrey,%20England,%20GU27%203 Blackdown is a huge NT area, steep hills woods and valleys. If anyone could maybe take a walk up to to "The Temple of the Winds" with binoculars you might be able to see something in the valleys below. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks for the advice, greylady. we have been postering and aim to do some more. we have been in contact with both the surrey and the sussex police. I think he re-injured a sore toe rather than a car accident. He wasn't that far from where we live - just the other side of Blackdown from Haslemere. Lots of dog walking friends are looking too. I am so worried about him in the snow and the cold. I'm going to get more fuel and go back to where he was last seen - again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Greylady I am 8 miles away from gu27 6 miles from Lugashall I am going to poster the Midhurst Common later this afternoon. Could we have some flyers done as I will go out that way 2morrow and have a search around.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Greylady
Have you called the police to see if anyone has reported an accident involving a dog? Just trying to think laterally as he is injured. That might give you some ideas of where to start looking. I know you are searching hard, but are you postering at the same time? That way you will have numerous pairs of eyes helping you look. As you know greyhounds are sprinters, but they don't have great stamina, so its possible he is still fairly local to where he was last seen. And without a doubt he will be making sure he is warm and dry as greyhounds hate the rain! How far was this away from where you live? I will make sure his tattoos are registered with the English Stud when they open on Tuesday so that they have a record of him being missing. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have sent a poster to our DW as well MicksMum or Eris I am free 2morrow if you want to do a search I can meet you in the Lurgashall area if you like or anything you think I can do to help I will just pm me. Stay safe Mick until you are found xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Eris. I've done the same drive countless times. I was up and out at 5am. walked the woods across from the Fernden Lane stud, but no sign. talked last night to people who found him on blackdown by cotchett's farm, took him out of the fenced area and let him go by the fernden stud. They said he was very lame, so he is injured. This Easter Sunday all we want is Mick home with us ...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got back from a drive around Blackdown, Fernhurst and Lurgashall, we did Fernden lane from end to end and then down the Quell. No sign of Mick I'm afraid. We did see 7 deer and quite a few rabbits so the chances are he is probably still distracted by interesting things to chase. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

REPOSTED & EDITED: MicksMum @ 15:24 - 22/3/2008 I have corrected the poster myself and my youngest son and I have been driving around putting posters up all around Blackdown, Fernden Lane and even Fernhust.Tattoo is indeed LHX2 in right ear - not terribly well done but legible. Thanks to all who are helping to look. he's a very friendly and affectionate hound and we miss him very much. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We need to confirm tattoos as not registered?? If not the racing name so we can find the original owner and trainer as he may try to head back to kennels if they are near by.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hope the lad is soon reunited with his owner - can the posters be corrected, as it is Haslemere, Surrey (and it's on the border with West Sussex, not East) I really hope he hasn't been picked up by the dog theives operating in this area...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
