Welcome home SPIKE well done all that got him home, If the police are loosing dogs that are in there station, then what chance do we have for them to help in retrieving them from the thieves. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

[ Corbiere the police suggested offering money so that they don't have to do any leg work or paperwork, the thieves come forward themselves! easy for them then isn't it? ] And no doubt as these thefts have a crime number they can then put it in their "solved" file so helping meet their targets! Outrageous. Well done to Billy, hope someone gave him a nice tip! As I've said on other threads, the person to speak/write to above all in such cases is your DISTRICT COUNCILLOR so copy all letter to the police, to him/her and get him/her to bring up the subject of dog theft, the police, and insurance in the chamber. Make sure He/she knows there is a lot of local concern. You can find out who this person is on the County Council or town/village website if you don't know. They are much more tuned to this kind of 'on the ground' stuff than your MP, tho both can bring pressure to bear on the local police chief.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

fabulous news. Lovely to know my instincts are right and that there are some travellers out there who genuinely LOVE dogs and horses, and would never dream of stealing them. While people are prepared to pay phenomenal amounts of cash for adult dogs displaced by babies/work/travel etc there will always be a market for dog thieves :-( why breed em if you can just nick em and pass them off as a "good home required to person with the right amount of hard cash"?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear little Spike, I am so happy to see that you have been reunited with your family. Thank you to the young man, for helping this family, (watch your back now lad). Finally, when our South West lurcher Buddy was stolen, the police condemned his owners for paying the "ransom" said this was encouraging the thefts!!!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

yes Thank you Billy from Birtley camp who sent two lads to help and went out of his way to help in everyway I have dealt with him many times when he picked up his hay so thanks Billy. Little spike is getting vet checked today as all his glands are up and needless to say hes feeling very unsettled.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please write to your local Police Superintendent , copy to Cheif Constable, to ask if it the Policy of your local force to tell people to pay ransom demands ?? All Police Forces also have a Complaints Department. These type of stupid comments and actions by Police Forces, paid for by our Tax and Council Tax, are being made on what is becoming an epidemic in some parts, with dogtheft being seen as a 'nice little earner' by some sections our the community. Couldn't agree with you more SB. There are good and bad in every community and if we can encourage the good ones to help us then surley that has got to be a bonus. Welcome home Spike.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well come home Spike! Corbiere in response to what can the pet insurance companies do-just one thing sit back and make money-they are aware of peoples fear of dog theft and as such have introduced premier rates with promises of them covering the "reward" however they require the name and address of whom accepted the reward-I dont think they understand that jo bloggs who menacingly phones up late at night demanding X amount of pounds for the safe return of the dog is not going to leave his name and address!!! in 4 years not one other dog owner who has found or help locate someones dog has claimed a reward-the only people who want money are those involved in the disappearence in the first place.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Howe dare the police advise people to submit to blackmail instead of arresting the guy!!!??? Whose side are they on?? I despair. Hope my journalist friend can do a story about how useless most police forces are being. Why should women have to go and confront scum like this to get their pets/*property* back? If it were a watch or something... Can't the insurance people like PetPlan kick up a fuss?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thank you everybody, yes we have registered him via his chip, weve been through the camps round bishop aukland as well as the one you mention. Im the same have a big noticeable van so I cant. We now have a name and Spikes owner is currently at the camp at BA with a copy of the cctv we now have a name but police have advised offering money to get him back! He is a traveller and doesnt reside in this area literally travels......my customers are all putting leaflets and notices out but I think we need to think of a larger area. Will look at epups I just thought theyd probably keep him for breeding as hes easy to hide? Cant thank you all enough.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

petnanny,,,the "gypsy" will be a traveller,,so may be worth passing on the quiet the traveling community on the drum ind estate? up from maxwells,, maybe that van is parked there,,i cant as i drive a distinctive work van and they will notice it!! worth a look i think,,good luck,Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

please keep checking e pups and dog adverts in newspapers for any adult chis being "rehomed through no fault of their own for astronomical price". I am always deeply suspicious of people selling adult rescue dogs for outrageous money when they should be more concerened about the home the dog goes to with just enough cash negotiable on that to put off the impulse buyer. It may be worth being a timewaster enquirer for some of these ads...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
