Re my post below, after writing this, I saw a mention of Somerset on previous pages.  I must've put the wrong info in the maps part, so not as near I'm afriad, but still perhaps worth a look?  Apologies. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi there, on Lost Doggies UK, on 23/10/08 a black lab bitch was found in Netherseal, Derbyshire.  According to google maps, this is only about 50 mins from where she went missing from.  There is picture there as well.  She was taken to Lakeside Kennels ~ 01283 790 937.  Sorry to raise any hopes unnecessarily, but may be worth a call.  Good luck in your continued search for Maisie xx.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The dog found at Bedham was definately not our Maisie.  I checked this out sometime ago when this one was found.  The found dog had had a litter recently, Maisie was speyed. We will keep looking for her and pray one day we will get her back home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry  should have read  "shame they couldnt have been accurate on the heading for the dog found." I wonder how many people might skip it thinking it referred to a cross breed.  Not that it should matter but if people are looking for a "breed" of dog it could be missed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Whilst trying to cross match I saw an ad for found stray at Bedham.  On further reading was black lab bitch (poss gun dog)  sadly had been hit by car but not serious injuries.   Contacted Maisies owners by telephone so they could check this further. Jason you are a superstar! We at Dog Lost in the SW are so grateful to you and Jane for all your hard work to help capture this little girl and to Bearded Collie Rescue for loaning the trap to hopefully catch this little girl. Thanks so much for everything!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I was one of the helpers who spent time gaining the trust of the 'found dog', which eventually led to its safe capture, she is a nice dog and must be someones lost dog ! I am glad Maisies owner went over to see the dog on the found pages to confirm whether or not it was Maisie. Unfortunately it wasnt - I hope she is found soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just clarify ~ the dog is still the "property" of the Dog Warden for the 28 days. I am aware that Lab Rescue have used the words "signed over" to them, but she will not become theirs to re-home until the 28 period has elapsed. In the meantime this is no doubt someones lost dog, so lets set about finding the owner asap!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I received an email from Labrador Rescue with the following infornation. The Lab bitch that was caught in Taunton, was signed over to Labrador Rescue by the Dog Warden on Monday. She was going to the vets yesterday afternoon for a check over, and then Lab Rescue intend putting her into a foster home for the 28 days required. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Feel a bit silly mentioning this but there is a black lab on the found pages-found in Taunton which is only 45 miles away-not so far given the time she has been missing-says no chip-but we all know that can be misleading. I am sure you have seen her but just in case.......Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This could all be compromised by "willing helpers" You will be informed, as soon as something positive happens. Thank you. I have removed the posts on here which related to the sighted labrador, but just wanted to explain on here about the current situation, so that the remaining posts make sense! Basically there is a loose labrador in South Somerset which is being fed by a couple, and has been seen for the past 5 days. Lynn, the Area Co-ordinator for DL has been in touch with the couple and also the DW for the area. We are very grateful for the help given by Bearded Collie Rescue, who as we all know are totally fabulous in situations like this, and who are now ~ as we speak ~ organising a trap. The reason I have removed the post which gave the location is that the area needs to be kept very quiet and we cannot risk the relationship which this stray girl (yes it is a girl) has built up with the people who have been feeding her. There have already been people who have heard about the dog visiting the field, and they have had to be politely asked to leave! It would be tragic if she was scared off now! I promise we will update you all just as soon as we have any news, but rest assured we are in touch with the RSPCA, Lab rescue, Bearded Collie Rescue, the DW, and of course the people who are feeding this girl. Come on lady, let yourself get caught!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I had an email from Labrador Rescue Trust regarding this "Found" lab when I came back from holiday on Friday. Lab Rescue have been sent another poster of Maisie, Sia and a list of other missing black lab bitches. They have this "rescue" in hand and I have left it with them, as I was told that they will inform me when this stray has been caught . Lab Rescue only thought that this stray was a bitch, has to be confirmed. I didn't post on here as I wanted to be sure which, if any of our missing labs this one is.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So glad to see I am not losing the plot as regards micro chipping. Maisie's mum is re advertising again this week we have not given up at all on getting her home. The dog we thought may of been her in Norfolk doesn't seem to be. We have had another call which we are looking into. Reading about little Oscar the poodle today being found just shows how possible it is. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to add to "chip migrating" - my terrier's chip is at the top of her left leg having worked down quite quickly after being chipped @ 6 months. The vet said it was ok but to keep an eye on it there as it is now quite vulnerable and could break thru the skin, altho ok for the last 3 yrs......so yes, I would agree its a good idea to ask the vet to check the chip when you are there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No you're not paranoid~just sensible! Chips can migrate, not sure if age is a factor, and they can end up anywhere in the dogs body, which is why it is SO important for rescue centres, dog wardens and vets to scan dogs thoroughly ALL OVER. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Been in contact with owner re black lab bitch just come onto found site. Keeping everything crossed but at present they cannot find a micro chip. Any advice on this, am I right in thinking if they are chipped very young (weeks old) they could migrate. If so would nothing come up. Every time my dogs have their booster I make it a habit to insist the vet scans them to tell me chip is working. Maybe I am just paranoid.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to dash your hopes again, I spoke to person who used to have golf course between Lyons Gate & Middlemarsh. He has several golden retrievers & choc lab. Some of his bitches are in season and a flatcoat retriever from Liegh has been running loose looking for them earlier in the week so he is sure the latest sightings were him, he's now been picked up by his owner. While up there I postered the scrap yard, bus shelter & camp site/ fishing lake. There were still posters in the area but nobody has seen anything of Maisie. Dissapointing but all I spoke to think it likely that she was taken the day of the shoot. Hope owner hears some news at South West game fair next week.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Trying to not get too excited in case this is not Maisie . Seems likely it may be as they both described the dog as long legged and thin which she would be by now. We just need a call and immediate reponse. Neither mentioned her skin but they were both driving ,and to be honest, I am not sure if she is living wild it would be that bad, cos often its house dust mites that make the problem so bad. If she is living outside it may not be too bad at all. I have everything crossed too, I so want to find her. I have to go on dogs reunited everynow and then to give myself a boost. Hopefully she is still out there waiting to be found. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

oh wow, this is so exciting! I have absolutely everything crossed for you. Make sure Maisies mum is listening to her messages and checking for them all the time if she goes out (Lynn I know you know what I mean!) ....you need to be able to strike quickly! Hopefully because it is warmer, Maisie may be seen out and about a little bit more. I'm praying away.....Did the people who spotted her notice any of her dermatitis? I presume it would be pretty horrid by now and I think she gets it on her mouth/muzzle and "girl bits" and it gets sore and weepy....just may be worth asking the question but appreciate that being black, it may be hard to see from a distance.....xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi poochpal, looking forward to meeting next week. Have spoken to a lady today who was on the coach arranged for crufts, she thinks she may have seen Maisie on tuesday evening around 5.30 on the road near Pets Haven going towards Baileys Ridge crossing the road, she commented on how long the labs legs were!!! This ties in with the van driver sighting that same day which was around 1.15 when he called the owner. If it is her, and I so hope it is she is still quite near from where she went missing. I have been on phone tonight to Maisie's mum updating her and talking through the next possibly move. Please, please can we get maisie home it would so make my day!!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Was down in Dorset/Wiltshire this weekend and got this magazine called Blackmore Vale? Is that any good for putting an article in? It was STUFFED full of puppies and things to buy (and also trained gun dogs to buy). It was free and I picked it up at a pub, so the circulation must be good???? I also met a man in a carpark who saw Sia's poster in my car - he is heavily involved in Lab rescue and so gave him this website and instructed him to look at all the lost labs and to make it a priority to get their details circulated UK wide!!! Hope he does. Posters have gone to Hampshire and will be Wiltshire this week. How are Maisies parents going on posters to vets????Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RIGHT! Double action. Sia has gone quiet, Maisie has gone quiet. Lets get posters to vets. If you can get the owners to agree to pay the postage, printing and envelopes on the surrounding counties to dorset and I pay the postage, printing, envelopes on the surrounding counties to Oxfordshire. Lets hit the vets with the the posters of their conditions (lynne l has them on her PC as well as me) I have had 3 vets call me from Oxfordshire which I did last week asking more questions......its GOOOD keeps the vets interested as they both have medical conditions - it sets them apart from the other labradors that come in. Lynne, can you contact Maisies owners and get their agreement. If you want inspiration, look at finnybobs post on 20/2 on Sia's page re adding a little note etc. Angus did Maisie and Sia to all Bucks vets, so thats a great start....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Phoned the farm very near where she was seen to be told he has a black lab that was out about that time and returned for her dinner about 5.20!!!! Why, or why do people let there dogs run loose, I know its the country but sorry it drives me crazy!!!! However, will go there today and poster the area and knock on a few doors. Owner and family went out today, seems we MAY have been on a wild goose chase!!! Turns out there has been a black lab bitch on heat running around this area and that was probably the dog in the sightings. So, so dissapointed, I actually spoke to the post lady today, she will call immediately if she sees the dog again, she seemd pretty certain it was Maisie but if it was the one on heat (and hopefully its now confined to its house) obviously, no call will come. Everyone has been so kind and helpful, hard not to feel despondent but will just pray she is still around and we will get that call. Been a stressful day for Maisie's mum and family who thought they would be bringing her home. Told her not to give up. We will keep on trying. She is sending out to all the vets in Dorset, I have suggested she does Somerset too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My computer just crashed so if thos get on twice I apologise. Owner had three calls this morning, one from the vets who saidthe post lady had seen a lab, second from a beater, third for someone who had seen aloose lab.. They are all in the same area, on the walk that goes beside Quarry Farm in Yetminster. The farmer is aware and watching carefully. The last person said he saw a very thin black lab when he was walking his dog, it wagged its tail then run off. Please, oh please let this be Maisie!!! I went straight there with a friend we searched for around 2 and half hours and nothing. So disappointed. Postered the tip in Sherborne and got a really nice sainsburys assistant to put her poster up immediately before you go in the shop. I so want to find this little one and get her home again!!! I have had no call from network rail, they took all the details, even gave me a reference number, so hopefully no news is good news in that area!!! The school near where she went missing is aware, its been on their noticeboard since when she went phoned them this week all the kids are watching out. Some flyers would be good now I think. I am going to sherborne tip with laminated poster and also some copies for the bin men to have in their trucks so they have the number. Will also put a couple up in Sainsbury car park sherborne. I will re e mail labrador resuce today. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Forgot to add............is there a school nearby? If so putting up posters in this area (I know its probably half term at the mo) would be beneficial. Kids see everything and are a great source of information. I know we have already told labrador rescue and Lost labs but would one of you mind doing it again please just to refresh their memories. This lovely dog cannot have just disappeared. Where are you Maisie??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ok as its a very rural area, can we target Library vans, milkmen, postmen (I think that's already been done but a gentle reminder won't go amiss!) local delivery businesses (like Riverfrd Organics for example) Farm shops as well as supermarket ca parks. Flyers under the windscreens of cars in the car park would help get the word around. I will check in the info centre to see if maisie has flyers in there (can't remember!) and if there aren't any then I will ask Majorjet to do some. You are all being totally wonderful, and there is so much effort being put in here its fab. Has there been any result back from Network Rail?? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That is a good thought about the railway lines. The contact for this is Network rail 08457 114141. Could one of you who knows the local area give them a call to check? However sometimes their records can be a bit lacking though, so be warned! Is there a gliding club near here? If so can they help with any sightings?? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am using Explorer 129 - a 1:25000 map of the area. There are lots of footpaths to the E of Thornford and great view of the village and surrounding fields if you come down over from Lillington thru Ratcombe Wood. Might try just sitting up there with binocs if the weather stays clear. I hope she has not gone W and N of Thornford onto the railway tracks going into Yeovil. Has anyone been in touch with the chaps who would maintain/clear the lines? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There has been three "possible" sightings in Thornford, the most recent was about 9th February of a lab drinking. Other places seems possibly Bradford Abbas or Yetminster. The village shop in Thornford is postered, I will go back there this week and look around and put more posters in the village area. What we need is am immediate call so we can go straight away. Today walked to the W of Lillington towards Thornford and then N to Honeycombe Wood and back to Lillington. No sighting sadly. Saw a few other walkers and put a poster up in Lillington itself. One thing we did note, which may or may not be of significance was that we saw (near Thornford) a largish black dog coming towards us about 300m away, with a person, which was suddenly turned around and had disappeared by the time we reached the other side of the field. May be totally innocent - but how well is Thornford postered? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is anyone going to take up Corbiere's suggestion regarding the Hunt? I can eventually find out who the Sec is (hard these days when saboteurs want to find out too) but someone may already have that number? Also have the local farmers been contacted? Its lambing season now and we do not need a repeat of Star's story. Finally, do we know exactly where the shoot was taking place when she was lost (which farm?). Will probably go out again today but would like to home in on a specific area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Walked a large circle today of about 5 miles. S from Lillington to Whitfield Woods, E to Stockbridge and back through Leweston to Lillington. A beautiful warm sunny day with lots of pheasants, rabbits and deer about - but no Maisie for me to see: -( I guess though by now she could be hunting at night and holed up by day? I didn't see any posters in the above mentioned places so we'll try to get out there again over half term and put some up.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Called C&S Meat Packers at Holnest today, they have a black lab who runs loose all day so think it could have been theirs reported yesterday. Went to Thornford where there had been possible sighting couple days ago, asked in village shop if they had heard aanything but again no luck but great community, everybody looking out for Maisie, posters everywhere stating that she has been speyed in case somebody thinks she can be used for breeding. More shoots have been held at same farm, owners hoped she may turn up when she heard shots but that didn't happen so afraid she may have been taken.
