Tell you what, I didn't realise what hard work it would be replacing all the Missing posters with FOUND ones. However wherever I am changing them people are so happy for Karen & Ally that she is home safe and sound, they also can't believe that horse poo is so good for dogs and I don't think many will let their own pooches try!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What a wonderful Photo, She looks so happy and content, Mind you it would have been nice to see mum and dad on it, I think you should have one on so we can see the weight you have lost, the worry spots, the dirty fur and the totally unkempt look, Any way good luck in the future in everything you do you deserve it after all this, Love Sukimax, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just taken Holly to the vet for a check up and to say that is in rude health would be an understatement! She managed to put on 2kg in weight whilst on her sojourn in Harpenden! Horse poo must be good for you! She has no fleas, no mange, she was wormed and has a slight pull in her left shoulder. Oh and she is sleeping lots. Other than that she has slotted right back in, it would seem that those of us looking for her suffered more than she did!!! And thanks again for all the comments and support, it's great to know that so many people were interested in what happened to her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Zuz , she must have seen your post last night & decided that there might be some competition !! Either that or her laptop battery went down!!! :-} Karen & Ally time to relax now. I have been round speaking to several of the local helpers and they are all pleased that they can stand down on Holly-watch. I would like to thank every one for their support over the last nearly 4 weeks. I'm so pleased that she is home safe and sound. It does mean that Steve and I can get back to a normal life. Martyn has been absolutely fantastic, but I think that we need to let him see his own dogs and wife for a little while, I'm sure he has forgotten what they look like. I still feel guilty that she managed to get out of our garden and I thank Karen and Ally for not blaming us for it. Just can't believe that she looks so good and have had a little cry myself that she is back home safe and sound. Love to All concerned for her and Thank you once again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Sukimax, we need cheering up! the traps are out and set with bait that needs to be dragged off the hook and very little around the trap. And guess what? Yep, she obviously had a laptop and was nowhere to be seen! Despite the gorgeous weather, she has obviously found another place to sun herself. We are leaving the traps baited overnight (that's how desperate we are getting!) and Zuz is going to check them last thing and at silly o'clock in the morning to release anything that may be be caught. The waiting game is getting to be hard work for everyone it seems except for Holly. It's like the Bourne Ultimatum for dogs!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a couple of sightings today in the same field as Tuesday. Apparently Holly was 'sunning herself' at the top of the field this morning and was still in the same area late this afternoon. She is still wearing her collar. Concerted plan of action with the traps and Martyn tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed! Don't let Holly have access to a computer ... this may be how she is able to second guess our every move!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Holly has obviously made herself a den in the woods. This is typical behavior and despite where she is sighted it is to the woods she will return. The trap needs to be set up away from people with food inside it only. Dont put food around it. You need to entice her in and let her start to gain confidence. If she knows food will be available regularly at the same time in the same place, she WILL come for it. This is where you will need all your patience. If you see her, dont chase her, she will run. Good luck, I think you will have her home soon... dont forget to scent for England too!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a call this evening from a lady near to Sauncy Wood who said that she had just seen Holly in her garden. She looked wet and thin (it was throwing with rain!). We hot footed it over there with Zuz and the house backs onto fields and then the woods. The lady suggested that her daughter would be better for a trap as she lives nearer the woods, so that is the job for the morning. At least she has been seen and in the same area so we are all a little bit more hopeful than we were this morrning. And we know that the posters are still working, people are noticing them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ally and I went out early this morning to watch for whatever was eating the food in and around the trap. Guess what? Nothing. No Holly or anything else and the food was still there when we left to do more leafleting. Popped into the Blue Cross with a poster, they were aware but had no poster. Also spoke to Liz the dog warden, she keeps having a drive/wander around but like us, sees lots of people who already know but no-one who has seen her recently. Between us, Martyn and I have decided that setting the traps is a bit pointless at the moment, we need sightings! Come on missy, this is not funny any more!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We (Karen, Ally Steve & I) had another unproductive walk round this afternoon, we did however, speak to several new people and they are now on the lookout too. The horses and the sheep weren't that talkative! The food around and in the mouth of the trap is disappearing during the day so we don't think it is likely to be foxes, we just wish she would take the food off the hook and get herself caught.... More news when we have some. Lets hope its good and SOON.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have no sightings for the last 3 days and are beginning to get a bit demoralised. martyn has noticed that food around the top trap is being eaten during the day, so he does not think that it is foxes, however if it is super Holly then she is not daft enough to go into the trap! We are going for a look see with steve and Zuz this afternoon, if she is staying in the top fields, they are private property and the only one likely to see her is James from the stable. We are all fed up owners and foster parents!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well was going to say that James from the stables had seen Holly, but Karen beat me to it!! Martyn met us (Ally & me) at the gate to the field where she has been seen and he may try to set a second trap up there. The stables are very helpful, they have given us free access, we just have to let them know when someone will be there or the Police may get called! Last thing we want is Martyn getting arrested (not even for killing fishermen, well at least seriously wounding them), he's much too useful as a dog catcher.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

after a worrying couple of days, I have just had acall from someone at the stables over the other side of Holly's area from where she has been mosrt recently seen. He was watching her running away from him towards the woods up at the top of the area where he thinks she is nesting. At least she is still around, we were beginning to worry and that is good news. Karen & Ally , keep strong .When we were having sightings of Picalo it was great but then we didn't spot him again for about 4 or 5 days & you can't help getting downhearted , but he did pop up again ,seen by somebody else , not Picalo's mum or myself even though we were patrolling! Hang in there , keep going with the food & scenting & she'll re appear , I'm sure. Come on Holly time to come home now. XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No sightings at all yesterday, so Holly has not been seen since Sunday morning. Zuz drove round the lanes to check for both positive and negative news but found neither. It would seem that Holly has really gone to ground. The trap will be set again today in Sue's paddock and once more the waiting game begins. We did wonder whether it would work if we put our Siamese cat in a cage in the middle of the field and let her yowl. Holly was fascinated by Poppy who is missing her desperate times.....! It is getting harder though, come on Holly, we need to see you and get you home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have decided that Holly has ESDP, extra sensory dog perception. Whatever is decided that we do, it seems that she knows and doesn't go there! Today, we had a couple of sightings near the allotments but nothing near tha paddock where Martin was patiently waiting. Ally and I tramped round the esate and the fields with no luck. It was a lovely day and qiute busy with lots of people out and about so the next plan is for martin to set the trap tomorrow afternoon because he has to work for rael, then it is back to serious action on tuesday. once again it is apparent from talking to people that there are lots of people out there spotting for her, but she is managing to outwit us all. I know that they say that collies are clever but this is ridiculous!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well, what can we say about today and the continuing adventures of Holly. Martyn was out all night and apart from several foxes and loads of rabbits there was no sign of Holly. She finally put in an appearance at about 0930 just as we were about to feed Martyn! He went rushing back to the trap and waited. Some fishermen were the other side of the river and Martyn asked them nicely not to make any noise or sudden movement if they saw her which they said they would comply with. Holly went towards the trap, half way inside and the fishermen stood up and shouted "there she is", Holly went off at quite a pace. She returned about an hour later, was getting close to the trap again when some unhelpful chap let his dog off the lead and her went into the field to chase Holy, off she went. Karen and I walked the usual haunts but did not see her again. Oh well, Martyn will re-set the trap again tomorrow morning and we shall wait again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another quick update on the developing saga that is Holly's camping holiday! Sightings have been few today, but Martin has the trap sited and we are all hopeful. I forgot to say yesterday how wonderful the dog warden in this area (Liz) has been, support on the phone, checking the area, talking to the locals etc, even when she had finished work for the day! Lets hope that we have great news tonight or tomorrow morning.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well what a frustrating day this has been with Holly. The little minx has been running us a merry dance. Various sightings but she has so many routes that we cannot plot a place easily to set a trap! The locals are still being fab and we have been given unlimited access to a private padock that Holly seems to like a lot for daytime naps! Lets hope that this can be a good place to get her from. Thanks again to all who are keeping their eyes open for her!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Picalo (Terrier X) didn't respond to calling & ran away but he was caught . Once you get a pattern I'm sure you will catch her. Good luck , looking forward to seeing Holly in the blue soon. Been out this afternoon and spoken to people who have seen Holly in the allotments yesterday and this morning, where we saw her this morning. Also by the river near the Nicky line and the gamekeeper at Hyde Home farm who has seen her on their land heading towards Luton from Greenacres. he thinks that she was heading towards the Nicky Line at Thrales End.He has 6 spaniels so maybe they can coax her! Also spoke to Martin who has a trap. He is going to have a look this evening hopefully, with a view to getting ideas of where to set the trap maybe tomorrow. I have leaflet ped and spoken to householders in Whitings Close, Milford Hill and Common Lane. One of the ladies even took posters to give out at the school tomorrow morning saying that they have seen Holly two mornings this week! Once again everyone, thanks for your help. I have to work a long day tomorrow so won't be able to do anything at all so I will be relying on my eyes and ears out in Harpenden!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went out this morning to try the food station thing but Holly decided to use another route two roads up! We later saw her coming out of some allotments in Roundwood but she ran, I followed her in the car all the way up to the footpath that goes to sauncy Wood. She ran like the wind, was filthy and up to that point I would have said that she looked tired! We did not get near enough to do anything with food. I have contacted the Dogs Trust, where we got Holly and they are going to see if they can come out and catch her in the next couple of days, so any sightings will be helpful. Would it not be worth borrowing a trap and leaving it in one of the gardens she has been seen in.?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

as Holly's mums, the first thing we want to do is thank everyone for all their help in trying to get Holly home. When we were in Spain that was very reassuring for us. Now we are home, we are doing our best and today we both saw Holly in the Common Lane area of Harpenden. I saw her at 3pm, she stopped and I thought she would respond to me and then she ran off. Ally saw her at 6pm running out of someone's garden and into the big field. Again not responding but spooked by a bus. at least we know she is OK and can still run fast! Tommorrow we are going to see if we can see her at the other end of town near to Greenacres farm where she has been seen for the last few mornings. Hopefully we can entice her with food and then who knows? The saga continues......!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have been out again this eveing and not a sight of her until a lady told me that Holly has been running past her house the last couple of mornings at about 0700. She will try to entice her with food in the morning and call me as soon as she sees her. Holly's Mums will post something later as soon as they have activated their account at home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Holly's Mums are back and we have had a walk around where she has been seen, no joy for us but got a call that we were only 200 yards from her, when we got there she had gone. We'll be back out later so please call us if you see her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Ian for your help today. We enjoyed the walk too. So as you know Common Lane is the last lane we walked down and Batford Road is the one running parallel to the main road that we live on. Will let you know what we find out about the feeding lady. We are thinking of arranging with her to feed at a time when either Holly's Mum's can be around or we can.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, Zuz,Dora Jerry and myself had a nice two hour wander around the back areas of Harpenden today, Holly is staying local as a few of the numerous people we spoke to today, had said they or someone they knew had seen her around, this is good. The lady who has been trying to feed her from her back garden is a plus, and if she can build up Holly`s trust then this little girl should be home soon. I will pop over during the week and see what, we can find... IAN Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another confirmed sighting of Holly, running up Batford Rd from Common Lane then onto the fields around Batford Springs, this was at 1950hrs. A very nice lady called us twice within 5 mins to tell us.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Excellent if one person can establish a feeding station makes it easier for us to keep her in the area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Very good news and this is def the thing to concentrate on for now - to get this lady to let you make a nest for Holly in the garden where she can feel safe and relax enough to come to you in a few days.... good luckLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have been out for another 2 hour trawl around the lanes with more posters! Have spoken to all the dog walkers we have seen and also to anyone walking in the area. Holly is getting to be famous around here. We have been told of several sightings within the area of Sauncy Wood and Batofrd, at least 3 within the last 24 hours. We have been told by the manager of our local little shop that a lady nearby has been trying to feed her. She is going to dig her number out for us so we can co-ordinate our efforts to get Holly back to her home safe and sound. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please leave a gate open and food down in case Holly is returning to your house at night, a friends dog did this but moved on after not being able to get a response.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please take something that hasn't been in the wash that smells of you to area where she has been sighted with some food. If any local houses over look the area ask if they would mind just keeping an eye out & maybe topping up the food. Hopefully she will stay close & if food is provided there's no need for her to wander too far. Please if you see her DONT try approach her, as Ted's owners found out even a timid dog will not give in until they're ready. Fingers crossed that Holly is the next one in blue. Thanks to all who have been in touch offering support. We have not given up hope and will not. Her parents are also very grateful even though they are in Spain. They will be joining in with all our efforts when they return on Tuesday. I shall then ask to have the phone number changed to theirs so that they will get the first call, but I would still be really happy to get calls, especially if they are to say that she is safe and sound! I live in Harpenden and have just experienced my dog Benji going missing. He dissapeared from the Nicky Line on 29th December and showed up 7 days later in St. Albans. I could not have survived without this site and all the help from Harpenden dog owners. I walk around Harpenden every day so will keep looking for her. Don't give up, you will find her. I am sure you have already done this, but just in case. Ring the dog wardens in Hemel, St Albans and Welwyn, and the police stations in each area-every day. PUt posters up all over the town, including all the vets surgeries and all 3 supermarkets. People are good, they will re-unite you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
