This morning tv programme have posted this on their website....

This Friday we’re intending to feature an item on missing pets. So if you’ve lost a pet, or think you’ve had one stolen, let us know and we might be able to feature them in our missing pets gallery. Email thismorning@itv.com with some good shots of your missing pet and a few details that might help: when you last saw your pet, any distinguishing marks, habits or characteristics. Maybe it was wearing a particular collar. We need your emails by 5.00pm Thursday the 10th May. http://www.itv.com/thismorning/life/reuniting-lost-pets-with-owners/

Thankyou for your kind words on Tiger's page. I have looked at your picture of Maggie many times. One good thing that has come out of Tiger missing (if anything could) is that I now help to rehome greyhounds and lurchers with GRWE and help fundraising with them. Tiger was everything to me and I still miss her dreadfully but I have given homes to two more little girls that needed a comfy sofa to cuddle up on which does help alot. Tiger's bed still lies empty tho. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

God Bless

I can't believe it's TWO whole years since you vanished out of my life taking my heart with you - I hope wherever you are you are safe and happy.  I still miss you so much little moo, you pop into my mind everyday, I will never foget you and I will forever hope that I see you again, to feel your cold wet nose in my ear, to touch your silky coat, to watch you chasing the bunnies and have you curled up next to me on the sofa.  You will forever be MY dog and no-one elses and I will never give up looking for you.  Be safe my little girl. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Maggie - not sure why I feel I can talk to you through DL but who cares - just to let you know that your little friend Weasel left for the Bridge yesterday - she had been diagnosed with Addisons disease and seemed to be doing well - Friday she had a very hard tummy, was operated on yesterday and found to have advanced bowel cancer -  she was pts before she could suffer so please look out for her if your're there too and make sure she's safe and happy - can't tell you how much I miss you both.  Thanks little moo.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everyone for your comments.  It's a horrible day and I have developed a habit of bursting into tears for no apparent reason - to cap it all Maggie's little friend, Rusty the cat hasn't been seen for two days which is a little unlike him as he's a bit of a pig and likes his breakfast/supper on time.  Thanks also Lynn for the heads-up - I spoke to a very helpful man at St Giles who checked this dog out, it's a bitch that was found in Yeovil with a traveller but she's black with white patches on her chest and both back feet and definately not chipped - does look so like Maggie though.  I so hope she's safe and happy with a nice family and enjoying her life but I will continue searching and hoping that one day her chip brings her home where she belongs.  Off in search of another tissue!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Millychops - I read your post on Blaze's page and thought you would have added something on Maggie's page too - I makes me cry to think how many people still think of her - sadly she's still missing but obviously we're still looking and desperately hoping one day she'll be back with us, I still miss her so much.  We collected a little Viszla puppy on Tuesday whose gorgeous, it's fantastic having a second dog again (though not sure little Weasel would agree just yet) - she could never be a replacement for Mags and one day I will have another Lurcher - but Meeka will do for now and in a way its better that she's different - somehow it makes it easier.  Thank you so much for still thinking about Maggie, it's lovely to know people still care.  SabrinaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, Maggie’s Mum, I’d guessed really that you must have followed the Alton call through as much as you possibly could, it was just that it seemed a strong lead at the time, and I remember you thought he sounded genuine.   The postmen contact was a brilliant idea, they would certainly know if anyone did.   Clearly you’re doing all you can, and let’s hope your persistence eventually pays off, you certainly deserve a happy ending.
Re Maggie’s photo, I think you may have to email admin to get her back on site, they have suggested doing this for any missing info;   also there are some pages missing in the middle of her thread, including your lovely message to her.   Would be nice if they could re-insert those too.be safe, dear Maggie, and come back home where you belong xxx

Hi bess n barney's Mum and Tara 9 - we have exhausted the Alton call and explored all possibilities - I even went to the sorting office to see if the postmen knew anything but once again it lead nowhere.  The local agricultural shows are coming up soon so we'll definately be there keeping a look out - still getting calls which is great but they all go nowhere - last one was a silver greyhound about hip height seen in Reading - its great that people still think of her.  She would have come into season around April so if she had puppies they would be ready around now so I spend a lot of time trawling the internet looking for whippet/lurcher puppies but nothing so far.  Fingers still crossed, I still miss her so much.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, I was thinking that too.   Her photo is still on the poster, but you have to click it to see.   Maggie's Mum, did you think anything about my suggestion further down?   I know it was a while ago you got the call, but it just could be long enough that they may drop their guard and have her out with them more where somebody may see her, if indeed they have her.  She is such a lovely girl, I think about her a lot, and loved your message to her a while ago.   She reminds me in her photo of my Bess, who people say looks a lot like a lurcher-type.   Be safe, Maggie xx

I also have been wondering if there was any more news of Maggie.   I have only just registered with DogLost although have been a ’lurker’ for some months and have been very moved by Maggie’s story.   I also remember that you had a phone call, Maggie’s Mum, from a farmer in the Alton area I think, who said his wife had got a dog he thought was Maggie, and wanted to keep her.   I can’t find the reference to it in previous pages but that memory keeps coming back to me.   Do you think there’s any mileage in trying to follow that up again, even maybe going to the area and asking around the local pubs and so on - I think you had a rough idea of the name from what I remember.   I wish I could come over and help follow it up but currently in France.   However I live on the south coast in Hampshire when I’m home, so not a million miles away.hope you don’t mind me making this suggestion.   Please be safe Maggie, lovely girl

Thanks Dee - it's 4 miles from home to where she vanished and probably another 6 miles the other side where the dog was seen - it would be hard to do a trail all the way home from there but I can try to get her back closer to where she disappeared. Back to the pilchards and wee then.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You need to use the point Maggie went missing from as a base... if it's not too far from home then lead a scent from there to home... and also one from the place of the sighting - make a track she can smell until she finds familiarity. Use the place she went from as the area to put down food/blankets etc - she is likely to be wandering trying to find smells of you and where she went from and was last seen are important places to try and pull her in from. Thanks Yasa for the message :)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I need some advice - is it better to keep going back to where Maggie vanished from or keep going back to where the women thinks she might have seen her - even though we don't know it was her. Both areas are full of dog walkers everyday but no-one has seen anything. I have put up more than 200 posters covering both places and all telepgraph posts and trees in between which is a vast area of rural nothingness. My car is now up to 600 miles searching and two new tyres after a double puncture in Beech yesterday in the pouring rain - not to mention the amount of mud inside!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It's a long story that leads nowhere regarding Maggie but I have just spoken to Warren Avenue kennels in Southampton (02380 510065) who said that they had a Lurcher brought in yesterday that had been picked up LAST Christmas and kept but has finally been handed in. Told them to post the dog on Doglost but just in case they don't might be worth someone in Admin giving them a call. Secondly - a white and brown Lurcher was collected by Test Valley Dog Warden from Broughton, Nr Stockbridge the weekend before last, bleeding feet and obviously dumped - they wouldn't give me details but their phone number is 01794 527700. Still nothing on Mags - but I will keep looking and weeing in the area she was possibly last seen until either I find her or I am arrested! Still hoping someone has picked her up and she's safe and well. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Maggies Mum dont be put off by the fact she hasn't been seen for a while. This often happens with a loose dog, especially if she has found some shelter in this bitter windy weather. Keep telling everyone, puting up more posters, and handing them out. Its highly unlikely there is another loose dog matching her description, so sounds as if it almost certainly was her, so she will show herself again. Dont expect her to necessarily come to you though if you see her as she is traumatised. Also remember not to chase her but to walk the other way, singing or making some familiar gentle noises. Just keep doing what you are doing, and she will show herself again. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Three hours yesterday in Beech tromping around the woods/fields calling and whistling, weeing(!), squeeky toy - nothing. Thank you Collieboys for being there as well. Back at 4.0- to 7.00pm doing the same - nothing. Again at 5.30 this morning (not bad after a party), sitting by bus shelter watching the bin where the dog was seen, willing to see something, anything but nothing (amasing how many cars around at that time), walked the woods when felt safe - nothign. Husband back there at 9am walking other dog - nothing. I'm afraid it's back to the gin, tissues and a good cry.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

when we was searching for willow(whippet) we had a sighting and we kept going back to the same place as we had the sighting and we was up there at midnight and scented more and put more food down in one safe place and his blanket and then we was up there first thing and the owners went somewhere different and i went back to the wasteland and i was going to go after 40 mins and i called out just before i went and he howled and then 5 mins later he came out of hiding ! x x so if maggie is tierd and it is safe where she was sighted hopefully she will stay put like willow did ! we put down tuna and pilchards and a blanket for him , i had never met him and his owners were up ther every day since sighted and he didn't show himself at all but he did to me it was really strange he showed him self to me but he did and we got him back x willow was gone for quite a few days aswell x we was up there to midnight and early the next morning x Maggie will show her self soon x just keep going back to where she has been seen , come on maggie show yourself come home x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Try not to worry Maggie's Mum! I know it's hard not too. My Boxer was lost for a week in February this year, it was freezing cold and very, very wet. He survived with only an upset tum which was easily sorted by the vet. We had to catch him though, when we found him he was frightened to come to us. We kind of cornered him in someones garden. She is out there waiting for you to find her and I'm sure with all these sightings it won't be too long. Will be thinking about you. AND lastly but by no means least a huge thank you to everyone for your help and support - it means so much to me to know that there are other people out there looking for Mags. Thank you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just got back for Beech - called, whistled, emptied the scent sprayer, weed everywhere, knocked on doors, put posters through letterboxes, flagged down local policewoman, tramped across farmland, looked in hedges and ditches and fallen over in the mud twice, soaked, filthy and knackered but not a peep. I will not stop until I get her back. The lady who saw the dog yesterday evening will be walking around again this evening with her friend and a daughter just in case she returns there. Ever hopeful that I will get my Maggie mayhem back. I don't need to tell everyone how I feel right now - I need a gin and a cry!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Keep an eye out not only for maggie but also for areas where she could be sleeping in that area - grass or shrubs that look flattened down, sheds etc etc. Read Rambo reunited and that will give you a good idea of just how comfy and familiar our pets get with the great outdoors. good luck maggie's owner she is gorgeousLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I can't be sure it was Maggie but if it was she was spotted on Medstead Road (turn up to Beech off A339) just north of Wellhouse Rd, there is a bus shelter on the corner. The lady who rang and I subsequently met saw a dog going south down the road towards A339 tucked right into the side. She said if she hadn't had a prat right up her exhaust pipe she would have stopped but couldn't without causing an accident. I'm going back there after school off with my other dog a a friends lab and will trawl around - I have contents of the hoover bag, socks etc. Will also notify Alton area Dog WardenLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Maggies Mum, I've been looking on google earth. Can you tell us which road she was sighted on, and do you know which direction she was going? When you are searching have some really smelly food with you, like sardines or tripe, and maybe her squeeky toy. Pay attention to places like church yards where dogs often hole out, and if any more sightings come in be sure to plot them onto a map. Good luck for tomorrow, and dont forget the email address. Maggie's Mum this is brilliant news, and very possible that this is Maggie. She is quite capable of existing on her own especially if as Kimba's mum said, she has found a warm place to sleep. She will probably have found a food and water source, and this could be anywhere, but are there any stables or anything like that in the area she was seen? She will also most likely be out hunting at dawn and dusk, so this is the time to be about. If you would like to PM me your email address, I will send you some scenting instructions. This is going to be your next step now, but tomorrow make sure there are more posters put up all around that area she was seen. Good luck now. You will get her home xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have everything crossed for you. As you say Beech is really not very far from Burkham as the crow flies. Hopefully Maggie has found herself an old barn or something similar to protect herself from the weather. Good luck!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

POTENTIAL SIGHTING... trying not to get too excited as I haven't actually seen her but ... a lady rang this evening (about 6pm) from Beech, Nr Alton - not too far from Burkham as the crow flies - who says she was driving home and saw a small charcoal coloured greyhound, about knee height trotting down the road. I raced over way over the speed limit! (having got a friend round to mid the children) and met up with her and a couple of her neighbours. We called and whistled but nothing. She is convinced that she saw what she saw. Going back tomorrow with other dog to comb the woods. Will try to sleep tonight but unlikely. My mind tells me the likelyhood of her still being alive after the bad weather is zero but I live in hope.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have sent another photo of Maggie to Admin@Doglost - unfortunately I dont have one of her standing just this of her sunbathing! I had a call this evening from a chap in Alton who had seen the advert in Countryman's Weekly - he said he would poster around Alton and north of Basingstoke. Apparently he has Lurchers and knows a number of travellers and will put the word out -ever hopeful.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks SueW - I have spoken to a number of people today who have all said that if they found Maggie they would identify her as a Lurcher rather than a Whippet (and post her as such). Is there any chance we can change her descripton to a Lurcher - small short-haired grey Whippet x as well as what we have now? Many thanks and sorry to be a pain!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have put an advert in Alton Herald and Hampshire Chronicle, big postcard size advert going in Countryman's Weekley on Tuesday, went down to Farmers Market in Winchester yeaterday and put up 20 posters, that's about 300 in all now. STILL NOTHING! Does anyone have a list of dog rescue homes in Hampshire. I know it's a long shot but I don't want Maggie to fall off the radar - my other dog is pinning for her, as am I and my small children are desperate to see her. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Contact the local council for location of travellers sites. Also ask to speak to the travellers liaison officer give him a poster. They frequently go onto these sites. Keep scenting. Dogs are very resilient no matter what the weather they survive better than we would... Good luckLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm afraid to say that still there is no news of MAGGIE - she is going in the local papers on Friday and we are ever hopeful of a sighting. Does anyone have any more ideas? Does anyone know of travellers in the area or who to contact about this? Are there any Whippet clubs in the South (can't find anything on the internet) even though she is not a true Whippet she's not far off! Any advice / help gratefully received.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Yasa for your advice - we have done all this and I keep leaving smelly socks around, dragging them behind me on a piece of string but still not a squeak - we have over 100 posters up within a 10 mile radius, the Countryside Alliance have done a blanket emailto all their supporters in the South, Thames Valley Dog Watch have been contacted, every Dog Warden between here and Salisbury and back to Midhurst know about her, virtually every track has been walked in the area where she vanished, all the pheasant pens and shelters have been searched, I am running out of ideas but stilllive in hope. Thank you again to everyone for their overwhelming support, please keep your fingers crossed that we will atl east have a sighting of her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree with you Kimba's Mum. I don't think she will venture far if she has good cover in that woodland and there are rabbits and other forms of food supply. Maggie's Mum, if you have a car, have you thought of parking it in the car park, and sitting with the door open with her blankets on the ground? Try scenting from the car to the woodland area. Imagine the car as the centre point, and scent away from that point into the woodland quite a way. Then come back to the car and scent again into the woodland at a slightly different angle. Imagine your car as the centre of a wheel and you are forming the spokes going outwards. If Jayne hasn't given you scenting instructions, PM me your email address and I will send them to you. It is worth a try. In the meantime collect the contents of your hoover bag as that is one of the ingredients you can use. You will need to do this every day, but there is a very very good chance Maggie will pick up your scent. If she is in those woods, she is probably too frightened to show herself, but may be around and active at day break and late afternoon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Kimba's Mum
The last post makes me think that she may be holed up somewhere not far from where she went missing ... there is a patch of quite dense woodland between the car park and the path she was seen to go up. It does have "private" notices which have been put up relatively recently. I am sure it has been searched already but I will take Kimba for a walk round the woodland tomorrow just in case. I have spoken to all the Gamekeepers and landowners and put posters up everywhere from Bighton to Lasham and all points in between. I am so sorry to hear Maggie is still missing. I came so close to catching her by the collar not once but twice in the car park on Thursday... if only I had got an inch closer! I went down yesterday afternoon for a drive & walk round and put up some posters. I can't get there today but will certainly be down again tomorrow if Maggie is still not home. I was just wondering whether anyone has been round the local farms as I can see on the map there are quite a few in the area? Come up soon Maggie... its cold and wet out there... home will be much warmer! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I saw Maggie in the Woodland Trust car park shortly after she had been lost on Thursday. Unfortunately I was unable to catch her as she was very nervous. She ran off down the lane and then the gentleman with me said he saw her go down the bridleway in the direction of Lower Wield. Apparently she hasn't been seen since. For those of you who live in the area she disappeared from the car park shown in the middle of this map (http://www3.hants.gov.uk/bentworth.pdf). I will take Kimba out walking in the area this afternoon in the hope of spotting Maggie. I will take some posters out with me. Come home soon Maggie - I know your family must be desperately worried about you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
