jackie i am so sorry this was not sam and this must be so upsetting for you - as you say, a roller coaster. take positive things from this though - everytime a dog that even resembles sam is spotted you are getting calls, which means the posters are working. people are thinking of you and you have to take heart from that. keep up the postering, you know where to get more from me if needed. we are all 100 per cent behind you and willing you a reunion with sam very soon. chin up and get back on the postering. best wishes sianxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i cant believe the roller coaster day its been, you must all think ive gone mad & i'm not sure myself anymore. i was just about to start posterin again & got a call from a woman whos husband had been trying to catch the dog all morn, i rushed over, it was the location of the sightings & where i had been scenting etc, when i got there the family were in the woods & there were two westies, they had been unable to get the dogs to come to them but when i arrived the sam alike ran to me & acted just like sam. i was overwhelmed & the mind plays tricks on us in stressfull situations, i cant really explain the mix up, it was all surreal. this dog was so like sam its mannerisms & shape, but much lighter & slimmer, i reasoned that must be because he'd been out for so long! anyway on getting to the car he jumped in & behaved like we'd been reunited. to cut a very long story short i discovered my mistake when we got home & i saw he had'nt been castrated!!!!!! from elation to devistation, this beautifull little guy is much younger than sam hense the lighter frame. even our other dog muffin, was confused, they snuggled up together & she was licking his ears like she does with sam. i cant begin to tell you all how daft i feel, i can only think that my poor old frazzled brain believed what it so desperately wanted to believe. the owner went to the police & their dogs had been missing since 8 am & they were delighted to be reunited, lets hope we get the same happy result as soon as possible. i will get out there again tomorrow, thank you all xx jackie xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks catty-sara, Jackie will update a.s.a.p. it has been hectic for her, have just spoken to Jackie very briefly, the found dog has now been reunited with his family. Sam has been Neutered and the found dog was not. The poster will be amended. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
catty-sara
This might sound like a bizarre suggestion, but is it feasible that the owner of the "found" dog has got Sam and doesn't realise they have the wrong dog. This sometimes happens with cats and I am sure that some owners might just thing that the dog had "changed a bit" rather than wondering if somehow they have the wrong dog. Would it be worth putting posters up on the lines of "Are you sure you've got the right dog"? Or maybe seeing if the press would print a story on those lines? It is bizarre enough that it might get both the press' attention and the readers' attention if it is printed. Just a suggestion.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

wow, the daily telegraph! i will get a copy today. thanks you wonderfull people. the dog in withenshaw wasnt sam, it had already been claimed. i received the posters keela, thanks, i am going out to shops, garages etc in a wider area today. i phoned a lady who had rung me last week with the very positive sighting in ashton u lyne, (this is the area sam could've got to up the railway), she is convinced that the dog she saw didnt have a collar on, i had got a bit deflated after the red collar dog was picked up from near there, thinking that all my sightings could b that dog, but am going to concentrate my postering in a wider area over there. if ther are any helpers in stalybridge, mosley, glossop or oldham i would be most gratefull if u could spread the word. thank you all for your support, i dont know what i would do without you xx jackie xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

there was a very strong sighting on keswick ave ashton u lyne this morning, a dirty lost looking westie seen going in & out of peoples gardens, this area is near the 2 sightings on sunday. i have concentrated my search there because this is very likely to be him as there is miles of open fields connecting my mums where he went missing from to there. i have put up loads more posters & talked to everyone i met but no luck yet, poor sam will be cold and hungry by now. i got a nasty txt from a farmer who has complained about my posters, very upsetting as he took them down & this is the very area sam is likely to be. anyway ive got to keep positive this is the best lead yet. on my way back out tonight! thanks to the timperly person please still follow that up, u never know. thanks everyone xxjackie Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Timperley is quite a distance from you. I'll ask my brother who lives in Manchester if he knows anyone in that area. I'll email him Sams poster now. I've already sent him out looking for Sheba. I live in North Wales and wont be going to Manchester until next week, Hopefully Sam and Sheba will be back home by then.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

timperly is about 20 miles i think, i am just doing my printing 4 the day & then doin phone calls to any one i can think of, if anyone knows any rescue centres in that area it would help my search, or if there are any helpers over there it needs postering, i will do my best to go today to put up posters but i have a stronger feeling that the other leads in ashton are more poss so am goin back there first. sam could easily have got to ashton via the many connecting fields. please send out your positive vibes to our boy, be safe & well sam xxxxxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

jackie g, I am glad you are happy with the smaller posters, told you they would help with your printing and hopefully will cut down on your costs. Any posters you are displaying outside put them in plastic wallets to protect them from the weather. Hand the smaller ones out to as many people as you can. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jackie, keeping my eyes out for Sam over here in the Fallowfield / ladybarn area. I drive into the town center with work every day, so will keep my eyes peeled for Sam. Fingers crossed, we lost our Daisy earlier on this year and I know what a great comfort this site can be. He will be home soon I'm certain. Geoff.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

jackie, thanks for registering and updating us. I have telephoned Leigh Dogs & Cats Home 01942-671215, they have not had a Westie brought in, your details have been logged but you do need to keep checking and visit them in person to check. Any rescues you visit leave a poster and ask if they will display it. Good luck and hope your boy is home soon. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sam has gone missing from parents house and is used to the area. He has gone from the garden, possibly under the back fence which leads onto the Railway in the late evening. He was seen at approx 12.30-1.00 a.m. early hours Fri on the embankment by a Railway worker who tried to get him but he ran off. Posters have been getting displayed. Owner does not know how to use the PC very well and will get her daughter to send a picture to admin@doglost.co.uk and also register later this evening. Have discussed who to contact etc. Hopefully he has been picked up, owner will contact the relevant authorities on Monday. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
