Glad your girlie got home safe. Regarding GPS trackers, the man who runs this site is a big lurcher fan! http://www.pawtrax.co.uk/Last edited: 2016-11-24 14:46:15 by Philippa

Yes We.ll done Team Winnie Stay close now Winnie:-)xxx

I believe that some dog owners who post on Doglost use GPS tracking devices, so they may be able to explain how more about them. I think they arfe connected to a mobile phone, bjut not too sure.

I know you can buy GPS tracking devices to attach to their collars...I have no idea how good they are but Amazon is a good place to look.

Hi... as I'm not on social media, I just wanted to ask if my message of thanks had got out to the relevant websites, so that those people who were concerned can see that I have thanked everyone... if you could please ensure they know this. ALSO... I wonder whether you have any experience with 'tracking devices'. If there are such things on the market which I could attach to Winnie's collar, in case she went missing again. I'm quite nervous about her running off again, although she hasn't done this before... except for the fireworks. Is this something I should look into, and/or can you recommend something? Thank you for your advice. Gloria

Gloria , can't tell you how happy I am to know Winnie is home safe tonight !
Youre not wrong we do have some incredible people in the area who willingly give up their time to help others when the chips are down.
Thank you to you both Jayne & Poochpal for advising as yes was at work. (Though managed a sneeky message or two).
I can't thank everyone involved enough for everything they've done and the support they've given Gloria over the last few days xx
GLORIA
Thank you so much for all the help I have received. I am overwhelmed by the selflessness and kindness of all the people who have been helping to bring Winnie home - either on FB (which my daughter has manned tirelessly for me) or to those who have taken time out of their day to go looking for Winnie, especially the group of helpers this morning. I can't believe the runaround Winnie gave us today... darting from one park to another... from one road to another... from one district to another... in lightening time! Unbelievable! I wouldn't have been able to actively search and get around the area today without the rides I got and the help offered... and to the walkers out with their dogs, who kept me informed of the sightings, so we could move fast (although not fast enough! LOL)... their input was invaluable, too. I'm so grateful... Winnie... she's acting like it was ...'just another day!'... bless her... naughty little mite! I'm so glad to have her here with us again... I can't thank you all enough x

Gloria please can you give us some idea of the area in which Winnie is missing. Would she have to negociate railway lines, rivers, busy roads, to get back home. Does she know the route well. Ate there any traveller sites in the area. Are there barns or places that she would have taken refuge in.
GLORIA
Poole Dog Warden had a report of a BEAGLE running loose in Adastral Road (near Asda?) at 4.15pm yesterday. Sounds like this might have been the sighting, not Winnie. A Husky was also reported in Petersham Road. Unfortunately, although I rang their emergency number Saturday, they have no record of Winnie or my details. I also rang West Dorset Dog Warden who, I'm sure, said they would pass it to all other relevant dog wardens. I think we can discount Canford Heath, and perhaps focus again on Queens Park and/or Charminster? Gloria
GLORIA
I've got a ride at 10.00am this morning to check Canford Heath - I will call dog warden first to see if this might be Winnie... I have registered Winnie on AnimalSearch website. Will speak to them about their paid searches... if it would help find her, I would try... if people are actively driving to search for her... I just wish I was getting the messages earlier. She moves FAST... Thank you. Gloria

Re Animal Search.Co. UK I'm afraid though aware of them I have no experience of them. I know you can register free for their lost and found listing but I believe they charge for their search services unlike Doglost who operate on a volunary basis. Quite what their search services offer I don't know as have never seen them active in this area

Gloria, we've just had this message come via Dorset Dog Rescue of a sighting on Sunday morning. I'll copy the message here for you to see.
'Janice this message was received this morning in our inbox at Dorset dog rescue. Only pm img it to you as a long message and don't want to clutter up your page. Fingers crossed it is a clue. X
Hi. I think I may have seen Winnie Sunday morning on Queen's Park golf course. I was walking my dog but he doesn't get on with others and I saw a dog looking like her standing looking out of one of the paths. I turned around and went the other way. But I didn't see an owner and didn't see the dog again even though I looped back ground that way so would have thought I'd have seen them. It was about 9:30 Sunday morning and she was the cooper dean end of Queen's Park golf course. Hope they found her.'

A friend of mine is suggesting contacting animal search.co.uk to look for Winnie. Do you have any experience of this organisation? Are they legit? As I don't have transport, they might be helpful to me, if it brings her home soon... perhaps you have come across them already? Please advise. Thanks. Gloria
GLORIA
Thanks... I've been trying to organise a lift tonight... but, people have to work in the morning and it's so late. Trying to arrange a lift for tomorrow as well, with a friend who doesn't work... waiting to hear. But, it would be good to be able to confirm it could be her, rather than another person's dog. Asda - looking for food? Gloria
DogLostGnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
With no reports of the dog being seen again or whether it was caught it's very hard to say Gloria. I can tell you that the wardens in Poole are very good however and wouldn't hesitate to call you if there was any news. You might like to call them in the morning just to be sure , they may have had news of another dog found which would discount the sighting. Their number is 01202 261700
If there is any more news of the dog seen we will be sure to let you know x

Just got this message from my daughter, and I've got a friend, Kat, willing to drive me there shortly. But, frustrating that it's over six hours ago. You think she will still be in the area? And, it was 3.00pm... not dusk or dawn? Gloria
DogLostGnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
News of a very similar looking dog around 3pm today has come to our attention running in the road near Asda , Canford Heath in Poole BH17 area. It's quite some distance but not impossible given there are no known sightings of Winnie since Saturday night.
Please can alerts be extended to the BH17 and surrounding postcode area
GLORIA
Thank you. I have to say, today has been a 'low' day... mainly because of no sightings... because I don't know how long it might be before she should be found... it's been four days... and if a dog can smell for such large distances, why is she not finding her way home? ... is the scenting working? ... and the frustration at not knowing where to look... Cemetery Junction graveyard is closed from 4.30pm to 9.00am, so she can't be there, surely? She will be scavenging early mornings, yes? I went to Vets4Pets in Moordown today, to leave some leaflets for walkers to take away, but they wouldn't let me leave any... so, not a very fruitful afternoon in that respect. I'm going to try to get out early tomorrow and search in an alley behind the restaurants in Charminster Road... I've been told she might be there looking for food (but what are the chances we bump into each other at the same time?)... If she is so close... why is she not coming home... Charminster Road is two minutes from home... I don't understand it... doesn't she have a 'homing instinct?' ... Gloria

Trying to drum up some support to help with those flyers Gloria and help search. I have posted to the local lost and found Facebook groups including Doglost Dorset, Animals Lost and Found and needing Help Dorset and to Pets Lost And Found in Dorset. I've asked that anyone able to help calls you to avoid duplication of areas already covered.
Have you checked again with the warden just in case Winnie has slipped through the net and with the chip company to ask if she has been scanned for a chip by anyone ?
Winnie is still very much being circulated in the area by the groups and your family and friends. I want to reassure you that she's very much not been forgotten about xx

k9tracker... that's using blood hounds to track missing animals? I don't have anything with Winnie's scent. I have three dogs... they all use everything... only one bed not yet washed, but they all lie on it. I guess this is no help?
GLORIA
Hi... I think around 20 posters on lampposts around Charminster Road, Stewart Road and Nortoft Road... then a couple at Winton Rec... and an odd couple at Queens Park and Howard Road little Park. I've got 400 flyers I am looking to get to two pet shops I frequent, and the Vets (when I compile a list). Just counted piles of 25x. It's all very time consuming, ESPECIALLY waterproofing the posters! Am looking to do more today... just about to search Google for a list... k9tracker.co.uk - who is that? I'm not very computer savvy, and not on FB, but many of my friends and family are, and I'm relying on them to give me any important information or sightings. Not enough hours in the day... I think I said, I'm doing everything on foot. Thanks...
Skywalker99
try contacting www.k9tracker.co.uk, she will give you good advice even if she can not come and track. As the weather has been so bad she may have been lying low since saturday

I was out yesterday from 11.00am to 11.00pm but no joy... :-(. The weather was horrendous, and - every time I 'scented' or wanted to... the heavens opened and washed it away. However, I am putting a lot of faith in 'scenting' and would like to know... how long the scent will remain, in dry weather? There will be some rain today, but easing off, and then we should have a few dry days. I need to know whether to go back over the same roads, or whether I can spread out a bit, IF the scent from previous days will remain. I have also VERY HEAVILY scented my road (which is short... only eight houses either side)... I have heard that a dog's smelling instincts is at least 10,000 stronger than our own, and that she 'should' be able to pick up the scent from quite a distance away. If this is true, am I correct in thinking I should concentrate the scenting on my street and around... rather than try to form paths which stretch out from my house... kind of in a start shape, if you know what I mean? I understand the 'triangle' system. I have also heavily scented the dog towel hanging on my garden gate. Please confirm if I am understanding this correctly. And, although I am walking the streets looking for her, I don't believe she will be on public roads, as she is so nervous... and I don't think she will be sitting in someone's front garden, for me to see... because she is a frightened dog. I assume (hope) she is hiding somewhere, but I'm not sure how I can lure her out... I could be walking right past her, and not know... and, from what you are saying... she may not come out either, even if I called her. And it's difficult to call her on public streets in the evening... I'd be causing a public disturbance! I am taking my two greyhounds with me whenever possible, hoping she will pick up their scent. Yesterday I walked Winton Rec... Meyrick Park... and Kings Road, Charminster Road (small section), Stewart Road, Ascham Road (part), back down Nortoft Road onto Charminster and home via Heron Court Road. My friend Kat then also drove around Winton Rec, then back to Queen's Park Golf Course, along Howard Road, to a park there (I didn't know existed), and along the road she was first spotted (Queen's Park West Drive)... several times... and then back home. We put up some posters... and I dropped some flyers at my vet, Stokewood Vets, on Stokewood Road. My FitBit tells me that was about 11 miles... I'm getting very worried that there have not been any sightings since Saturday. This is a bad sign, right? :-(
DogLostNina
Thank you Alison. This lady really does need as much help as is possible
AlisonH
I have added Winnie's details to Doglost South West Facebook page and asked if there are any local helpers who can assist Gloria.
GLORIA
I heavily scented my road this morning, because I've been reminded how strong a dog's scenting instinct is, and how far it can carry... so, assume heavily scenting around my home might be a good idea... but, the heavens opened ten minutes later, and I guess it's all been washed away now. Walked my two greyhounds on Rec... spoke to a couple of people. After lunch, I'll get more posters printed, for distribution, and will walk back through Cemetery at Cemetery Junction, Charminster Road... as I've been told they often hide in graveyards, where it's quiet... and then try to get the flyers distributed to local vets. I have friends who may help with that, in cars. Gloria
DogLostNina
Are there any libraries nearby that you could get some posters printed and leave some there if they would allow.
GLORIA
Thanks. I've rung my vet - Stokewood Road - they don't have any networking with other vets, so I'm looking to distribute leaflets at the local vets, as there should be local dog owners who walk. Will have to get some flyers on A5 which means a trip to Staples to photocopy! Will scent on my way, I guess! No news overnight... unfortunately. Bournemouth Dog Warden just called for an update. I asked to be put through to Highways, who put me through to another department. There's no system for 'dogs' on highways, but there is no reporting of Winnie (they've never had a dog reported... cats and other small animals but not dogs), but have my details. No news is good news, I guess. Thanks.
DogLostNina
Mot sure if there is an easy answer to your question Gloria. each case is different. Carry on doing what you are doing don't forget local schools and colleges...children don't miss a thing. Post men are also a good way of getting the word out.
GLORIA
Many thanks... yes, I know I'll have to re-scent... Wednesday should be better weather... but, she'll be gone a long time by then. Do you have an 'average' time for a dog to be lost. I understand that's a bit of a stupid question... but, in most cases... would you expect a dog to be gone a long time or back within a week, say? Gloria
DogLostGnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
Typically but not always a nervous dog will move at quieter times ie at dawn and dusk but please bear in mind sightings to date have been in early evening , perhaps as the roads have grown quieter. The weather forcast for tomorrow isn't looking good however and if it's going to be as wet as expected rescenting may be needed when possible to ensure the trails you have left haven't been washed away.
That said you've taken on all the advice given, hopefully all your hard work will pay off this evening/tonight. Everything crossed for good news very soon xLast edited: 2016-11-20 21:31:17 by Gnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
GLORIA
Many thanks... poster has been updated... I've also sent you an e-mail as I would like to offer £100 Reward, in case that will get her home quicker. TONIGHT, I've been out scenting again and have left a trail from halfway down Stewart Road back to Charminster Road, down Kings Road, into Windermere Road. So there's now a very small triangle around Charminster Road and right and left of it (Heron Court Road and Kings Road). This afternoon, my greyhound Panda also helped by marking Luther Road! I've also hung a towel used to dry off the dogs (and also smeared with some household dust and dog hairs out of the hoover) on the garden gate at my front door. There's also a whole 'fresh' chicken hanging on that gate, which my friend Vanessa trailed down Stewart Road this morning. Not sure how long it will be before the maggots appear on that! I'm sitting at home with the front doors open, so that Winnie can just walk in the house, if she comes home (rather than sitting in front of a locked door).. and when I go to bed, she has access into the garden and then into the conservatory, where her bed is waiting with a bowl of kibble. We've put some posters at Meyrick Park and Winton Rec, as well as Charminster Road and Stewart Road. Will continue with the posters tomorrow. What time of the day am I more likely to spot her out and about... please advise, and I will endeavour to search at those times... Many thanks. Gloria
DogLostGnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset
Posters showing here as Friday 18th Gloria (which I thought they had been all along but may be mistaken).
I've added last night's sighting to groups in the area where people have been helping to search and included plotted maps of her movements. Please do , as you have been add any further sightings to Winnie's page here so we can help let everyone know.
Be sure to lay those scent trails away from danger anyway from kerbsides where possible, nearer to garden walls and get more posters out if not done already in the roads surrounding the new sighting and nearer home.
It's very promising news that she does appear to be trying to find her way back to you x Last edited: 2016-11-20 15:47:26 by Gnasher - Area Co-ordinator, East Dorset

Many thanks... Just been 'scenting' down Heron Court Road and Lowther Road... but, I notice the poster says she was lost on Saturday... she was lost Friday, 18th. Can someone from doglost.co.uk please correct. Much appreciated. Gloria
DogLostNina
Good luck Gloria in all that you are doing to get Winnie home.
GLORIA
Hi... just wanted to update. My friend, Chrissie, got a message to say that Winnie was sighted at 6.30pm yesterday in Stewart Road. If correct, Winnie is clearly trying to find her way home because that's much closer to my home than Queens Park. My friend Vanessa has been out yesterday and today with posters and scenting by dragging a whole chicken down Stewart Road, Bennett Road and a couple of others... not sure where... and back to my home on Windermere Road. I'm looking to go out with my greyhounds asap and do more scenting and with Chrissie later in the car. From the information and advice I am getting, it's important to create a scent and food trail and keep Winnie within a triangle... so that she can eventually be found. So, any sightings are really important so that I know which areas to search. I don't have a car, so I'm limited on how many miles a day I can walk. And my 10-year old greyhound is now not so healthy with his back legs, and can't walk too far either... Many thanks for all your endeavours. Gloria

Hi... yes, am in the process of doing posters... in between walking and searching, which I'm about to do shortly again before it gets dark... and yes, she can gain access... made sure of that. Don't want her sitting outside the front door, while I'm sitting inside! I'm hoping the fact that she hasn't been reported hit by a car means she's okay, but I'm not sure that would be reported. But, surely yes? Thank you for advice. Gloria
DogLostPoochpal - Regional Co-ordinator - South West - Police Liaison Team
There is always the chance that Winnie will retrace her steps and make her own way home, probably in the early hours when all is quiet. Please leave somewhere dry for her to shelter, covers crate by the door? Or a shed/garage door open with a little food to tempt her in.
DogLostNina
Gloria please try and find time to get some posters printed and put up they really do work. You could always ask local schools to help and offer a reward towards school funds. Contact taxi firms, put posters in post boxes for the postmen to see. Put posters up on bus stops, poo bins and ssk shops to display. Print them straight off Winnies listing.Last edited: 2016-11-19 14:22:47 by Nina

Many thanks for your help... just back from searching Queens Park... left my number at the shop and they will contact me if they hear anything. Not sure how far she has gone and worried she is hurt and lying somewhere in a ditch... not visible. Thanks for the advice... I think I've contacted all the organisations now... been ringing them since yesterday... 2x vets... Environmental Health... rang Queens Park but there doesn't seem to be anyone there able to do anything about lost dogs, because the park is so vast. Will contact Microchip company now, and prepare to leave a trail. My 10-year old greyhound isn't great on his legs any more, but I'll take both my greyhounds out to the park (once my daughter has arrived from London), as see if they can leave a scent trail for her. Queens Park is HUGE... how on earth to find her... Thanks for all the help. Gloria

Hi, I'm Winnie's owner, Gloria... thanks for all the comments. I don't have a Facebook page... I'm not savvy with social media... but my friend Chrissie, and my daughter Vicki, are... and are checking for me. Thank you for helping... Winnie is a VERY nervous dog, afraid of people, so it will be difficult for a stranger to get close to her... :-( ... however, I'm desperate for new sightings. I was out all night, walking to search for her (I don't own a car or drive)... but I was walking in the area where she was last sighted around Queen's Park Golf Course... however, that was at 3.20am... and I was already six hours behind. Please text me if you see her (07732 046086), as I don't get e-mails to my phone. My daughter is driving down from London, and we are going out in the car to search when she arrives... Many thanks for all the help... Gloria
