Really pleased that Toby has recovered from his adventure so quickly Julia and hope that you have too! I'm completely smitten by your lovely old boy and keep coming back to smile at that sweet sleepy face x
Julia
I have been overwhelmed by everyone's support and kind, kind remarks. Toby spent his first day home in his basket, shivering and with a hot nose, and I was a little worried, although not surprised after his ordeal. On Sunday, I took him with my other two, for a slow walk - very slow walk, as he limped and hobbled along, BUT today, he was totally back to normal, almost puppyish, with no apparent stiffness or pain, and full of the joys of Spring. Thank you, thank you e eryone, especially Dog Lost! Over and out....Julia xxx

I have to say that Toby is an amazing lad! Despite being the grand old age of 16, he has kept everyone on the run for the last couple of days and not let anyone other than his mum catch him! What an incredible lad, a testiment to his owner :)
Julia has just sent me some beautiful photos of Toby looking sooo comfortable and cosy on his comfortable bed. Please refresh the page to see them!
I love a happy ending!
(Oh and if you see posters for Toby please would you take them down? That's the best job to do .. thank you)Last edited: 2016-10-09 10:07:29 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

Yes, I have just been speaking with a delighted and very relieved Julia to say that she had found Toby! She went out very early this morning and saw Toby (being followed by some searchers who were trying to catch him unsuccessfully) and laid some of her clothing down in front of him. Luckily he smelt his mum and Julia had him!!
Well done to Julia who followed every bit of my advice to the letter. So happy that Toby is home safe and sound. Love a happy ending!
Stay close now Toby, home is the best place to be!

Great news. Welcome back Toby. Well done everyone.

Hi everyone! He is back. After giving up last night, because it got dark and hearing that he was in the Robin Hood Lane area, I set out this morning armed with dog food, my nighty which smells of me, my other two dogs, and hope, and half way to RH Lane, suddenly saw him, running alongside the Rype, with several really kind Lydd Dog Lovers in hot persuit. My two dogs eventually caught up with him, and finally he stopped running.
He has just eaten a huge meal and drunk a gallon of water, so will probably be sick, but who cares?

I have so many people to thank, the dear men, one of them called Andy, who first saw him yesterday and tried to catch him; The kind, kind couple in a white van, with a working Cocker, who tried to find him last night and were out again this morning, the sweet 'horse girls' who found him in their horse field last night and gave us the most up to date sighting; Jenny who was almost on her way to track Toby, with her wonderful Beagle; all the other people in and around Lydd, who have been so supportive and concerned; and finally Clarkey from Dog Lost. What can I say? She has been the driving force in the search for Toby, with her wonderful advice, and constant support. THANK YOU so much everybody. I do hope you never have to hear from me again! Another sighting of Toby in someones field with horses but ran away as soon as he saw a person in there, now thought to be heading towards Robin Hood Lane/Dungeness Rd. Owner is aware and is out in the car trying to spot him.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
It's only because well meaning people have been trying to catch Toby today that he's so scared now. I do not believe there's any need for a trap as owner has advice on how to catch him. He's very likely to come to her when no one else is around.
Unknown
Is it possible that a trap could be set neasr the area, using his scent, and his owners?. Dont know this area. Get found soon Toby, you really need to be home

Just had a call from Julia who has just got home. She has been looking for Toby and has met people who have seen him but has also been told that he is running away from anyone who tries to catch him. He is the area near to the big pond alongside the army camp but is hiding in deep undergrowth and trees. I have advised Julia to return there with some of his bedding and maybe some smelly dog food so that Toby can catch the scent and come to her.
Unfortunately it is almost dark now and the undergrowth is, as Julia describes it, inpenetratable but I have also suggested that she stay there a while in her car as Toby may come out when he feels it is quiet enough with no one else around.
So if you are in the area, whilst your help has been and is very much appreciated, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO CATCH Toby.
It's very important that Toby is NOT scared off from here as he has at least got good cover from any rain and will be safe enough until enticed out by his mum.
I'm sure Julia will update us all later.

Keep safe Toby

NickyB: I spoke to Julia earlier but not heard anything about a sighting and am not able to get an answer to my calls. Do you know any details of this sighting and who it was who reported it please?
I had advised to keep looking for Toby despite the report of someone picking him up as we can never assume anything.
UPDATE: Have found out that Julia went out in a rush after someone reported seeing Toby and has left her mobile at home. I gather that he was seen on the road between Lydd and Camber (think that would be Jury's Gap Rd but not 100% sure) Julia is out there now as he was frightened and would not come to the person who saw him. She has taken her 2 other dogs with her and hopefully they will lure him out.
Keep everything crossed please for some news soon! Come on Toby, it's time to come home .. your mum is out there looking for you. Last edited: 2016-10-08 17:04:19 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

owners had mssg toby sighted - out searching now

hi julia dont despair but if it was my dog i would definitely keep on and on and on searching near your garden and the areas toby knows well. do search undergrowth particularly brambles as they can snag the fur.

Probably confused with k9 search dogs who are in Devon! You need to fill in the contact form on Jenny's website for her to respond www.k9tracker.co.uk

Dear Skywalker, I think I may have got on to the wrong site. I thought I was talking to K9, but clearly wasn't, since they were in the West Country! Have just got in touch with the right K9 and am waiting for them to get in touch. Thank you so much for telling me about them

Thanks Jayne and you Julia for the update. Try ringing the Dog Wardens (as I suggested when I called you) as they may have had Toby handed in. It's possible that the man reported to have picked up your lad may look after him for the weekend if he had found the vet was closed and/or had difficulty getting in touch with Shepway DW's. If he does not realise that you are looking for Toby then let's hope he will see a poster and get in touch with you.
Fingers crossed Toby will be back with you soon.
Skywalker99
Are you sure about k9 tracker...they are Kent based...or is Jenny just not available right now? https://www.facebook.com/K9Tracker-293150650842737/?ref=ts&fref=ts
Julia
This is such hopeful news. Unfortunately the Lydd vets are shut for the weekend, so I do hope the kind people who took him in will either see our posters and get in touch, or keep him safely over the weekend.
Everyone is so kind and so concerned. Thank you for the suggestion of a tracker dog. I tried to get in touch with k9trackers, but we are out of their area of operation, Unfortunately. Anyway, as you said, paws crossed! Lots of love to everyone ...

A shop owner has just rung as someone saw the poster up in her window and they said a man had caught a similar dog and said he was going to take it to the vets in Lydd. Have informed Cllarkey who will let the owner know. paws crossed its him.

Is it possible to get a tracker dog to track his movements as his scent will still be very strong and fresh? They did this for an elderly dog called Sally a while back and she was tracked and found to have fallen into a ditch in a field that she could not get out of x

Good morning Julia. Sorry that your early morning search didn't locate Toby. Didn't he bark at someone's door last time? Has the same person been alerted this time? I ask because there is an oldie in my neighbourhood who always comes to my door (usually in the early hours)when he has had enough of wandering and wants to go home. So Toby might go to the person who reunited him with you last time. Hope you hear something soon.
Julia
Good morning everyone. Still no Toby. I went out at 7am with my other two and allowed them to follow their noses, which is what I suppose Toby had done. I was led on a very rambling route which ended up where we often walk the dogs, on the cricket pitch, and met lots of other dog walkers on the way, who are looking out for him. Everyone is being so kind, but I am beginning to fear the worst. Toby's deafness means that he does hear noise, but thinks that it is coming from the opposite direction. So if one calls him, he runs off the wrong way.
Baydogs
Julia, sorry to read that Toby is missing again and hope there is good news by the morning.

If not, is he completely deaf or can he still hear certain tones? I ask because I have a deaf dog who can no longer hear the whistle or my voice but can hear a squeaky toy or me clapping my hands loudly. If Toby is the same it might be worth trying a squeaky toy on your searches (or whatever it is that he can still hear-if he is able to).

Thanks for the update Julia. You are doing really well and let's hope the posters will bring in a sighting of Toby or that he's found very soon.
As you have left his bedding in your garden then Toby may come home tonight or in the early hours. Good that he has a cat flap to go through!
Please be reassured that there are a lot of people sharing about Toby on Fbk and who are looking out for him. I've got everything crossed that Toby is home again soon.

Hi Everyone, this is Toby's distraught owner. It is now 16.30 and still no news. I have walked and bicycled all round the area but sign of him. The trouble is that he is deaf and so calling him is no use. He will be getting so thirsty, and being a very old man (nearly 16) he needs to drink a lot. I have left posters all over the place, in shops and pubs, the local school and on lamp posts, and have left his very smelly bed by the gate in case he can smell it and guide himself home. The vet and three local area dog wardens have all been told, and I suppose I just have to wait now with fingers crossed that some kind person will take him in for the night. I am so grateful to the Dog Lost team for their great and very kind help.

Toby's 16yrs old and DEAF so is very vulnerable & needs to be found asap please. (He went missing in August whilst on a walk but was found very quickly by a local lady who cared for him overnight. He was understandably very confused but fine when back with his mum)
This time Toby has gone missing from the garden after the gate blew open. I'm hoping he will be found very quickly. He has a microchip now.
Toby is still walked by the long ponds and also on the green but despite searching there's been no sign of him yet.
I have sent our email advice to Julia and advised she leaves something that has a strong scent of him or herself in her garden (and on gate) so that he has a familiar scent to follow and can make his way back home.
I would also advise putting as many posters up as possible as someone may already have taken him in. Put them in places where lots of people will see them (and give to people that go around area a lot) such as entrances and car parks to the marsh and footpaths/woods, taxi companies, postmen/post office, bus stops/stations, sports grounds, schools, pet shops, farm shops, libraries etc. You can reduce size of posters and give to people whilst searching so they can put them in their pocket and have your number to call if they see Toby.
Please keep us updated on this page so that we know what is happening. Thanks.
Best of luck with your search Julia. Last edited: 2016-10-07 13:10:54 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
