That's wonderful ! Looks like Prince has found a lovely forever home x
Welshgirl
Just a quick update Prince is still currently with us as was expected nobody has come forward. Dog warden has confirmed that we can indeed now transfer the ownership over from the original owners as they are happy to do so. Prince will spend the rest of his life with us and is already a part of the family. He loves the farm and gets on great with all the other animals. Thank you. X

Any update is anyone aware of please?

Yes well done. As I said before, I was not accusing the finder of anything, I simply saw the dog was on a sight as found and posted it to here, this was before the mention of the dog warden or a chip or the original owners was found.

Glad he's safe :) x

Thanks Welshgirl and thank your mum too. Unfortunately people do jump to the defense of the dog without all the facts. Again well done for all you have done and for clearing it up.
Welshgirl
Dog has had all the relevant treatment in the last four days to make comfortable and happy he has visited the groomers and vets and like I said dog warden and relevant parties have all been informed there is nothing else we can do we have done all the right things. The original owners lost contact with the new owners and the dogs details where not updated. Hopefully everyone is updated now and can see that no wrong has been done. This dog could easily have been killed in the lanes or even starved to death the health and well being of the dog is our main priority and hate it when people jump the gun when they don't know the whole story. We have others animals and would hate it if nobody had put up if they had found them although all our animals details and chips and all up to date. Hope this answers a lot of the questions that where asked. Our aim was not to just keep him without trying to find his owners first. We have reached a dead end at the moment and warden is happy that he with us as it would cause less stress than being in a kennel and he's happy and relaxed. Although the law states that he's technically still owned by original owners as details where not transfered and they by law have the final say in what happens to him. Thank you for reading. :)xLast edited: 2016-07-25 15:40:23 by Welshgirl

Thank you Welshgirl for keeping us updated am sure everyone is just concerned about this little dog .Its very hard when dogs are found espicially in poor condition I think people get protective of them and want to help..I understand what Gingerscouser is saying she did not realise the Dog Warden had been informed. And a lot of people still dont understand the internet and worry incase dogs get stolen and dumped.Am suprised last owner did not know who they sold him to but we get a lot of that.He looks a very sweet dog and am sure he will get a wonderful home.We aim to get photos up asap on this site so if someone has lost/found a dog others maybe able find its owner .And it does work a lot faster with a photo ....Would be very grateful if you could keep us updated as we only, like you , want whats best for the dog.Thank you x
Welshgirl
His name is still prince as he listens too it very well. We have done all the correct procedures and done everything by the book there is nothing else we can do all relevant parties have been informed and warden is happy that he is safe and with us. The finder is my mother and yes she's done an amazing job spent all weekend sort him out and chasing out his information.the original owners are angry with the state he was in and so would I he was rehomed due to family accident/problem a year ago (thinking of the dog before themselves) to who they though was a loving person. If the last owner was half responsible as he should have been the dogs details would have been updated and all this could have been avoided.Last edited: 2016-07-25 15:11:06 by Welshgirl

I am not assuming anything, hence my post. I am not assuming the dog has been dumped but have also been careful to say that this is also a possibility, I just wanted to be 100% sure and we can't be until the new owners are contacted, that's all :) xx

I have not said anything about you wanting to just take the dog, as I have said, I commend all the efforts of the finder to help this dog. I think we all just wanted to hear from the new owners before any sort of rehoming/blaming happened, I have been on this website for a long time and seen the effects of owners being blamed for the awful state dogs, which have been stole or missing and the state the dogs were in not happening with the ownesrs.

I have said all along that it is also possible that the dog could have been, indeed, dumped by that new owner. I am not assuming anything.

When I first posted this to doglost there was no mention of checking the chip or contacting the warden, the original owners hadn't been contacted at that point, hence why I posted to here as I have done for many dogs, using my spare time to X post lost and found dogs to this site to help them find their owners.

I think it would be best, Welshgirl, if you could keep this page updated so we all know what's going on with Prince [if that is his name still] :) xx

Once again, I think the finder has done wonderfully in taking care of the dog, people here are just worried about not hearing from the new owners and people automatically turning to violence, threats and anger without all of the facts from this person. Its happened before that finders have just decided to keep dogs and someone has been searching for them, heartbrokenly with no luck and everyone here just wants to make sure that isn't happening.

Thanks for keeping us updated, we really appreciate it! :) xx

Dog is currently held with us you obviously just assumed you know everything but obviously know nothing! Dog was dumped in a remote and isolated area on our private land matted and covered in urine and urine burns. He was taken to the groomers to be checked for a microchip and the dog warden was contacted that's how we where able to get information through the pet log on the weekend!the chip was traced back to its original owners! By law microchip details are supposed to be updated and obviously his last owners couldn't be bothered to do so! The dog warden is happy that he is with us and have given us full permission to keep him with us as long as the registered keeper of the dog agreed to which they have!it really annoys me that people that know nothing just assume we want to keep the dog and that was the plan all along if that was so why would we have bothered advertising him as found and checked for a chip!! Surely if last owners cared he would be registered as lost or am I missing the point? Everyone is in formed and it has been delta with legally for your information p.s thanks for using our pictures with our permission.Last edited: 2016-07-25 14:50:28 by Welshgirl

All I know is that the dog is with the finders, I know nothing more than that x

I know they are saying the dog has been rehomed with the finder by permission of the original owners, however these owners passed ownership of this dog to another person, I don't believe this lets them automatically give this permission.
The new owners of this dog could not have access to the internet/sites. I was under the impression the dog had to be held by the dog warden for 7 days or the finder for 28 days before it can be officially rehomed, after this time if the finder wants to officially rehome the dog that would be great!

I don't believe that the dog can just be assumed dumped because the owner hasn't come forward on the internet. I just think the new owners should have been contacted directly. Can Doglost Admin help with the legality of this situation? I only posted this to make sure the dog is LEGALLY rehomed and the new owners are 100% not looking for or missing this poor dog. The finder has done very well in cleaning up and keeping the dog safe for now and I commend her for all of that but everything must be done from a legal standpoint to ensure this dog is not being missed by someone else xx

wensmum and GingerScouser, I'm not on FB but am able to read these comments which tbh I find thoroughly disturbing. I think the psychology behind the defensiveness and aggression stems from having an agenda- that of wanting to keep the dog. I'm seeing this attitude all too frequently with found dogs on FB; people make massive assumptions and accusations in order to justify their own actions and gain support from their peers instead of attempting to reunite it with it's owner. And I agree, a poodle type coat soon becomes a mess if left untended for a few days, especially with all the wretched sticky grass seeds that are around at the moment. Yet they are ready to "punch the owner in the mouth". Flippin 'eck ladies !
Does anyone know the exact location of this dog? If so, what about contacting the warden direct and asking relevant questions?
I also thank you for your efforts GingerScouser.

I know, also makes me upset that people don't realise that dogs with this poodle type hair to get very messy in a short time. Its not neglect a lot of the time, they've just been running around alone!
That is true, I just wish there was someone who could make sure everything is being followed through 100%
Thank you, University has finished for the summer now so I can do it a lot more in my free time! :)
wensmum
Makes me despair of us with long term missing ones finding them again..........
At least he seems to be somewhere where he is cared for; I hope he hasn't got a heartbroken person trying to find him somewhere. Thank you for all the dogs you put up here....
GingerScouser
Wesmum, I just looked at the reaction you got and can see how defensive it is! I don't like the whole message of ''Well he's up on FB on lots of sites so its the owners responsibility to find him and put posters up.'' Further up in the comments its said they wouldn't put posters up and there was no mention of a dog warden. They also seem to have contacted petlog at a weekend which I didn't know was possible hence my posting here. Thank you for trying anyway but it still seems no one is trying to contact the new owners. Maybe they just forgot about re-registering the chip? It happens, it doesn't make them neglectful/abusive owners xx
GingerScouser
Jenny4, thanks that's what I was hoping too x

Wensmum, that's why I didn't comment myself as its my personal facebook. This is the second dog yesterday that I posted in which the finder was just going to keep. The first one had an owner which is why I posted that long, very tactful message on here. It seemed no one was really thinking that the dog might be dumped or stolen from the new owners, it worries me about that attitude too. Also the fact that if you try to help by saying to call the dog warden etc they get very upset and angry at you xx
wensmum
I joined the group - and very gently asked the question, because I'm sure something like this has happened to Rags - yes they say they have told the dog warden, and they say they have put up posters. They seem to feel I'm attacking them, so I'm not going to comment on there further, but I find the finders-keepers attitude on facebook generally extremely worrying

It is the law to contact the Dog Warden and notify them of the dog maybe someone could put a poster up in the area .hopefully someone nearer can guide previous owner into doing the right thing
GingerScouser
Just posting this as a ''just-in-case''. Prince was rehomed by the owner he is chipped to the original family who rehomed him to a family in Barry a year ago. He has turned up matted and smelling of wee [this can happen quickly to poodle types when alone for just a few days or so as we all know].

The finder is just assuming Prince's new owner just dumped him without seeming to actually get in touch to ask. This dog could have been stolen or ran away from the new owner. Of course this new owner is being blasted all over the post without any input from them. It could be the case that he was dumped which is awful but like I said, could have been lost or stolen.

The finder has now decided to keep the dog, no mention of dog warden or police being contacted and the finder is seemingly unwilling to put up posters, thinking posting to Facebook is enough and if the owners have not contacted the post then that is their fault and apparently proof the dog is not wanted.

The finder said they have checked with pet log and been in touch with the original owners who confirmed Prince was rehomed in Barry, however no one seems to have contacted new owner as they are just assuming it is this persons fault. [I'm not saying it isn't but it should at least be checked out as the finder has now decided to just keep the dog as their own!]

I don't want to start any trouble or blaming, I just want to be safe, so just posting this incase it is the case that Prince is stolen or missing from his new home and has not been dumped. As we all know what assuming someone is being cruel/neglectful can do to a person, especially when put all over Facebook. Like I said, he could have been dumped by the new owners but we should be 100% sure before placing any blame and rehoming the dog :)

Don't know if anyone in Wales can help, thank you x
