SHIPWRECK has NEW HOME!
Crossposted-
Shipwreck has an important update for all his supporters !!! His body condition and general health is not good enough to put him through a general anaesthetic yet to get him castrated. We are also still trying to save his poorly eye but it will probably need to be removed. We had the perfect home on offer from a family with Yorkie experience and he also has a new brother to play with. So he has gone to his new home today with surgery scheduled in 6 weeks time to give him chance to settle in and put on some weight which will give him more chance to make it through surgery. The lovely family have been waiting for a rescue Yorkie to come along and were delighted when we called them and he bonded very quickly to his new Mum.THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR HELPING US SAVE SHIPWRECK TO GIVE HIM A PAIN FREE AND HAPPY NEW LIFE XX

It is so good to know that he is going to get all the treatment that he needs, be pain free, and then found a suitable home. He has been through so much and yet everyone who meets him describes his nature as happy and loving. He is one amazing little dog who deserves the best from now on.

@Maxine. No problem,I know you are busy. I was just concerned about this little guy. Feel so much better now I see he is at last being cared for :)

An update on Doglost Cornwall FB. He has been named "Shipwreck" and has gone to Gables Farm Dogs' and Cats' Home--
Crossposted-
"Shipwreck’s SOS

We have recently taken in a Yorkshire Terrier who we have named ‘Shipwreck’ after he was found as a stray on a beach in Cornwall.

‘Shipwreck’ was signed over to Gables Farm when he was not claimed after spending seven days in council stray kennels. Since arriving at the Home it has been discovered that ‘Shipwreck’ has many health problems and will require extensive treatment and surgery before he can be rehomed. Half of his bottom jaw is missing and he has no teeth, which has made it difficult to age him but due to his behaviour and activity levels it has been estimated that he is around 6 years of age. He is very underweight, has alopecia, inflamed skin and glaucoma in his left eye.

‘Shipwreck’ will need to be castrated and vaccinated. He is currently having medicated baths to treat his alopecia and inflamed skin. He is having eye drops to treat his Glaucoma but if this is unsuccessful he will have to have his eye removed.

Deputy Manager Ruth Rickard said: “We have named this little chap ‘Shipwreck’ after he was found on a beach and he was such a wreck. It was shocking to see this little dog in such a poor state when he arrived but we will do everything we can to ensure that he will have a happy future. He has such a fantastic loving temperament.”

It is estimated that it will cost the Home in excess of £500 to treat all of his health problems and ensure that he can live the rest of his life pain free.

The Home has a non-euthanasia policy and never gives up hope of finding a new home for a dog or cat. They will do whatever they can to find a home for an animal; this includes behavioural and veterinary care. All of the animals have a full health check when they arrive at the Home. They are also neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for fleas and worms.

If you can help by making a contribution towards ‘Shipwreck’s SOS’ please call 01752 331602 or visit www.justgiving.com/f…/Gables-Farm-Dogs-39-and-Cats-39-Home21 to donate online. If we are lucky enough to raise more money than is needed it will go into general funds for the other animals."

Thank you so much Gables Farm for taking care of Shipwreck. A good deal of work to be done to make him more comfortable. Poor little man, so hard to believe that he may only be six years old!
And thank you to Doglost's Geoff Axford for finding that out :)Last edited: 2016-07-16 00:11:57 by Baydogs

Jayelle, I don't know the answer to your question. I read that the RSPCA had him initially but then passed him to the dog warden. One would hope that if he was in pain or needed urgent treatment he would have remained with the RSPCA or taken to a vet. I have to say that his eyes don't look as bad in this second picture. Maybe they are just cataracts. The way his tongue hangs out I suspect he's lost a fair few teeth as well.
For those unfamiliar with the beach where he was found-
http://cornwallbeaches.org.uk/South-Coast-East-Cornwall/Long-Sands-Tregantle-Beach.pdf
Maybe his family were on holiday and he toddled off amongst the rocks or dunes and got lost? Such a little dot of a dog could easily become hidden.
Jayelle, if you are on FB could you share this please, just in case his family are looking for him.
If he is unclaimed he has 4 days left before his week is up. Then, if he's old and has loads of expensive health issues...
BorderCol
That left eye looks seriously diseased or damaged, not sure about the right. I agree Baydogs, he does look very vulnerable and in need of urgent eye check. Will he get this?

Max, do you know what approx age this little fella is?
Looks a bit fragile...and the eyes could be glaucoma.
Don't like to think of him in kennels. Does he need an interim fosterer and some tlc do you know?Last edited: 2016-07-05 19:01:33 by Baydogs
