I have just spent the entire evening reading Bentleys page, right from the very first post. I have a horrible feeling these youths may be of the "mobile" kind and well away from the area by now. Needless to say I will be on the look out for this lovely dog. I work in a vets and volunteer at a rescue but have never seen such an eye catching boxer, I'm sure he would catch my eye if he crosses my path. I would love to know how his family are and if there has been any news since their last posting? God Bless, the Beddie Lurchers Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

BobbyG, I am shocked and saddened that despite all the info you gave the police, they were 'unable' to help you. Lets just hope that what goes around comes around and that those responsible will get just what they deserve. Somebody knows exactly who they are and 'people' of this mentality will eventually crack and the truth will come out. Still thinking of you and Bentley daily and still hoping for a happy reunion xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

UPDATE its now nearing Christmas and sadly I have to report that there has been no news whatsoever of Bentley. Despite months of searching and all the publicity and assistance that the case generated there has not been one positive lead as to either the identity of the thiefs or of dear Bentley. We have had no furthere reaction from the police - not that I expected any. We continue to hope for his safe return - but the reality must be that the chances of this happening now is remote.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have to agree with Polly on this, you have cctv footage of the crime(s) being committed, seems to me the police just want to sweep this under the carpet and pretend it never happened. How can they not investigate this fully, what happened to the names that were given? Our police force are fast becoming a laughing stock, no-one you speak to feels they are getting their moneys worth, all have a case in point to tell you about. No wonder people are disenchanted with the police. Write to your local councillor again, write to your MP, write to the chief of police for your area, expect them to reply to your letters and if they don't - write again. Bobbyg you could try asking for a meeting with the officer in charge, regards the cctv footage the police nowadays have the technology to get clearer images of these b..st on the cctv. surely if these yobs was on foot they are more than likely to be very local.Have you tried looking around all the take aways at night. they may just show themselves... Think if i was you i would be asking lots of ?s from the local police. you have the cctv proof of these yobs being at scotts home..xxpollyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

UPDATE Sadly there is no further news of Bentley. Crimwatch lost interest in the story . The police have more or less dropped their involvement or at least have done nothing more. Im still gettimg messages from all over the place but not the one I really want. The press can be persuaded to do no more as they feel the story has gone cold after nearly six weeks. I feel that we are now at the sitting and waiting phase. If anybody can think of anything else please tell me . Regards to you all - BobbygLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I just want to add that i am astounded that the kids that done that awful crime have still not been caught. Even though their faces were on CCTV for all to see. I just can't get my head around it. Hi Gay nothing concrete yet. not sure if the police are any nearer with the cctv footage. but i would of thought that the forensics would of impossed this footage and come up with a better discription of those responsible..these youths apparently got away on foot so they must be local..its very sad that nothing has been done and little bentley still isnt home.. Crimewatch is on tv tonight but i doubt anything will be on there as bobbyg hasnt left any message.. but the officers dealing with this case can and should of appealed for a slot on tonights show..Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update - re postering - when Bentley was taken posters were distributed within the first three days - not necessarily fixed to lamposts etc - but distributed 0ver 500 to vets, schools and a number of youth organisations. 2000 were distributed on the streets to passers by etc in the Waltham abbey areas and in Waltham Cross shopping area and at entrances to a number of parks and recreation areas, and motorway service stations and other garages. Posters and flyers were also distributed in the Cheshunt, Ware, Hoddesdon , Walthamstow and Leytonstone areas. 5000 more posters have been ordered and are now to hand for distribution. Within the first week of him going missing regular visits to a number of travellers sites were undertaken by and 'insider'. These visits have been repeated on an ad hoc basis. In addition contact has been made with a number of 'militant' animal rights organisations who are making their own independant enqiries. 'Undercover' visits have been made by privately employed investigators to sites where illegal pet trading is known to take place. Over 30 official and unofficial animal sanctuaries covering an area from Buckingham through Milton Keynes Luton and as s far as South london have been visited. A private web site has been set up and has logged over 2500 visits. An estimated 2000 posters have been printed and distributed by other wel lwishers. I have had over 500 emails to my personal email address offering advice assistance etc. This is without all the valuable assistance offered by Doglost. Contact is being maintained with police, juvenile liaison officers from 6 different divisional police stations and also with a number of traveller liaison officers. Contact is also taking place between myself and 20 different local authority and housing association housing officers. oops ( sorry lads ) nearly forgot - 'patrols ' if we are allowed to call them that , are being undertaken on a regular basis by a number of mLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just an idea, how about asking Walthamstow Greyhound Stadiom if they could give you a page in there programme when it goes to print and get the printers to put the poster in? These programmes are not normally printed until two days before the race meeting and on a busy night they can get lots of families and people from all over London, if it was in the middle of the programme they could not help but miss it. You never know they might be willing to do it for you for one week. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I 100% agree Polls, When my Ky went walkabouts I actually got a rollicking from a Council Worker as I "Took Over" EVERY Lampost, Wall, Shop, School, College, Park etc etc I could find and see. As Jayne ( Doglost ) will confirm, Through my posters I received endless calls on Staffs that people had found and I actually returned TWO STAFFS IN ONE NIGHT to their owners through people caling me thinking they had my Ky. POSTERS DO WORK AND HELP AWARENESS!!!!!! I know it's fantastic all the coverage ie Press, Tv etc etc but does the General Public sit watching Tv with a pen & pencil handy??? In order to write number's down to contact? With a poster the number is IN YOUR FACE and every call I got I asked if that person had removed my poster, If yes, I got the location they took it from and RE-POSTERED it.....Tash xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think if the posters are not readily displayed in the area it is definitely worth going back to basics, postering streets, shops etc. Over time, posters are going to be removed/fall down/become weathered so it is worth doing again if it has got to the stage that there are few/none around as Tash says. As I presume the people who stole Bentley are local, it goes without saying that the local area needs targeting the most. Someone somewhere must know something that can lead to Bentleys return. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi All....Hope your all well.....Been keeping a low profile due to one's expanding waist....It's TWINS people!!!! Anyway....Forgive me for sounding picky etc but I must say with everyone's huge efforts & support over Bentley I'm disappointed that NOT ONE POSTER is up on Bentley in Waltham Abbey, Waltham Cross, Enfield, Cheshunt etc etc. I have spoken with Bob over this and told him my thoughts a few day's back.....Scott paid alot of money for 5k of posters to be printed and I have not seen one anywhere. I'm saying this as it's blinding all the coverage Bentley has had, getting, got etc but surely going back to the basics of sticking Posters up would do more good then concentrating solely on press releases....I gave up asking Scott for the Posters before you lot ask! Just to say I cetainly haven't forgotten about you and Bentley. I have today written to my MP who has previously been quite helpful regarding police and dog theft related problems. After seeing Blue the Staffie's story (reunited yesterday) I, like many others, am appalled by people continuing to get away with such crimes - hence the letter to MP. I've also mentioned Bentley's case to him as a further example of these sort of crimes - ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

UPDATE - Sadly so far there has been no positive reaction to the TV exposure we got on Saturday. I am having it put onto DVD which will make it easier to reproduce and pass on.( before anybody mentions it I am aware of copyright issues and this is being sorted out ) THanks for some of the suggestions regarding publicity. One of the earliest things we did was to visit local pubs etc. Also chippies, Macdonalds, kebab shops etc have been postered as have the nearest motorway service stations. A few people have emailed me and sort of apologised for making suggestions for publicity that may already have been actioned. DONT APOLOGISE FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS YOU MAY MAKE. Myself, Scott and Jayne are now, and always will be, eternally greatfull for your interest and help. Are now getting some police help from a slightly unusual source. I was contacted today by one of doglost helpers who provides some dog training facilities for a number of forces dog handlers. They have all taken information packs and posters regarding Bentley and are going to use influence on their uniform colleagues to help in the search for Bentley. Apparently all the information has been posted on one forces intranet site. ( I will not mention the name of the helper involved for obvious reasons - But she must know how greatfull I am for her help) Unfortunately i havent yet had a reply from the Sun. I have however had messages of support from Spain, norway, florida and California !!! Well thats it for now will keep you updated as and whenLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Probably good to put them up in pubs and kebab shops, as the people serving normally remember faces of the area, and seeing one of them was on a bike would live locally, are there any cctv cameras in the location of where they were walking, something may have been missed by the operators, and is it worth sending email to the essex police to see if their pictures can be placed on their web site, they seem to have pictures of a woman caught on cctv......think taken Bentley is a lot me bloody important then her stealing clothes from a shop.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I know this is somewhat going back to basics but have posters been put up at pubs or other areas these sorts of people or their acquaintances would hang out? The reward (and possibly the 0800 number/guaranteed anonymity - if this is achievable) may lead to some further information. Just a thought, i am sure it has been covered allready. Racking my brains of what/where else you could try. Good luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Crimewatch often gives the impression that you get instant results to CCTV footage. That's not always the case as pics don't always trigger instant recognition. Secondly, some people often take time to wrestle with their conscience before they shop someone they know.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jayne - have viewed the tape and it was absolutely fine - not a trace of a runny nose in sight. Many thanks for making the considerable effort to get down to Waltham Abbey - it cant have been easy with you not being well. Unfortunately there was a slight technical hitch at my end and part of the tape has been overwritten. i am getting my contact at ITN to send me another copy. I have taken NIKs earlier advice about not 'bombardin' the press. The structured approach is obviously better and has shown dividends in the coverage we have got . I emailed the still pics to the Sun yesterday evening ans am awaiting a reply. #the next step wil lbe to get Anglia ITN to put the London Tape onto their early evening programme. Sadly we have had no clear result from the TV coverage After this I still have good aontacts on Richard and Judy and Paul O'Grady to use up. Still hoping .BobLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Re Bentley - The London ITN team have been at Scotts since 11am this morning, It seems that they are going to do a big number on this one. Everybody has been interviewed - Jayne has been interviewed to speak for Doglost so lets hope you get some excellent publicity for all the lost dogs out there. They have interviewed the family and even spoken to Ruby and Lolly ( his other two boxers) Not sure if they interviewed the five babies Ruby has just presented us with. The police now tell us they have a strong lead- This is after i have slagged them off to ITN !!! although why they havent contacted us for the last week or told us anything i dont quite understand. PLEASE everybody - tell everybody you know to tell everybody they know to watch on Monday . The London News Team are going to pass it onto Anglia to see if we can get it on there as its not that far up the road. Above all lets hope we get our Bentley back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Whilst London Tonight is an ITV News production and the footage technically available to the entire network, Anglia won't to pick it up because Bentley being there is only speculation. Like everybody on this site I am absolutely appalled at what these low life scumbags have done to this poor innocent pup and to be honest cannot get him out of my mind. I cannot print on here what I would like to happen to them!. It is a well documented fact that people who abuse animals usually go on to abuse adults. What will these scumbags do next for kicks? - perhaps another Jamie Bulger case!. The police should be concerned. I cannot believe with all the publicity that nobody has come forward with a few names. Maybe the reward should be made bigger - money speaks!. What are the police doing?. It's just about time they took dog theft seriously. Are there any traveller camps in the vicinity?. I just hope that one day I will log on here and find a happy ending. Until that day however the hunt for these vermin must continue.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I take on board what Nik has said about approachingg the media. We should coordinate our efforts so that energy is not wasted and effort not duplicated. The publicity neeeds to be structured and planned rather than taking a 'scattergun' approach. I would be more than happy to do this if people feed the various ideas to me. This can be done either by personal messages of email to my home email bob@trackdrive.fsnet.co.uk Here are the bases i have covered so far on the advice of our Wendy who is a well connceted TV journo/producer. ITN London News who are going to do a feature - this is being set up at the moment - this will include a section for Dogslost so that the organisation as a whole can get positive publicity. Animal friendiy journo at The Mirror who are now interested. Personal contact with the editor of Crimewatch who is keeping the article for November Crimewatch on 2nd November. Direct contact with the producer of Richard & judy who are activly considering a feature and direct contact with the programme coordinator of Paul O'Grady who are also showing interest. In addition we have had 5000 posters printed for distribution through inclusion in local newspapers. Also 500 posters circulated to vets , animal sanctuaries and schools within a ten mile radius of the incident. The number of hits on the doglost postings has been amazing but is slowing down a bit as the postings slip further down the list. my own web site has now had over 2000 hits. Many thanks to you all for your continuing help and support . BobLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tha main people involved need to agree a plan of action so everyone know what everyone else is doing. It is very difficult not to get emotionally involved but a plan would help everyone. Is someone chasing the police to see were they are up to?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Shelties Mum has brought something to mind. Isn't there a standard number which you can phone to anon. give information regarding a crime? I think it's something related to "Crimestoppers" but I'm not sure. Perhaps someone more in the know could advise on this and tell us if we could use it on the posters. On the media thing I am also disappointed BUT I agree that we must be advised by people like Nik who move in those circles and know what they're talking about and how to "work the system". I know we all get hot under the collar about our dogs and this case is terrible but we need to "regroup" and plan a strategy rather than all flying off in different directions - a directed effort will get more results. We've some good contacts via this site and I'm sure things will progress soon - ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

With all the coverage and blitzing of posters I can only conclude someone, somewhere is shielding these yobs or perhaps too terrified to speak out. They can't live far from Bentley's home surely or they'd need transport. Maybe an freephone 0800 number on the posters guaranteeing anonymity would be the answer? Just thinking of other angles. love to all xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Boy am i upset that Bentley did not get even a mention on crimewatch, dogs are just as important as other things with most genuine animal lovers whether it is a dog, cat, budgie or other they are like your children. Sorry guys, but welcome to the media world. I did warn that you could make the story untouchable, and I rather think you have. Someone needs to draw up a list of the media approached (with contacts), the precise story pitched and their response. This needs to be reviewed before determining a strategy. I would suggest backing off for a few days - bombarding the media is not the answer.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've just found this website: http://dogmcuk.com/content/aboutus/index.asp She makes designer clothing dogs, and has got quite a lot of celeb clients. Good afternoon people- again many thanks for your help. To clear up a point about Crimewatch. I have had direct and personal contact with the editor of the programme and whilst he has been extremely sympathetic ,owing to the breaking of a major national story there is just not enough space in this weeks programme - However we remain on their files for future. The real problem with this is that the programme is only on once a month. Re the circulation via News agants - this has been done. We have had 5000 posters printed for distribution this way. All local schools colleges and youth organistions have been circulated. The nearest 500 vets and animal sancturies have been postered. I now have a direct line to an animal sympathetic journo on The Mirror - they are showig interest in the story. I have also been given direct contacts for the ITN London and Anglia News stations. Any other ideas ? BobLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The Crimewatch running order is set a while back and usually through police referrals. The police you have dealt with would be better placed to have made the approach although actually getting something on air is highly competitive. I'm not sure if you are under the BBC South East region based at Tunbridge Wells or Meridian TV or even Carlton, but I'm pretty sure they would run this story. Log on to the BBC site then go to your area. They're always looking for stories and the hits on this website and the owner's one is a story in itself. I would think Bentley is still in your area and would be covered by any of these stations Hope this helps. lovexxx xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear All, I understand the tagged youth wasn't one of them. There are however new leads with different names and the source it came from is in a well respected job etc etc ( basically wouldn't lie etc ). Will let you know things as they unravel. As far as The Daily Star feature on our Bentley I'm gutted with it. It was my own personal contact with them through one of my mates and that's the best I got was it......Didn't even use Bentley's picture which they had!!! I'm really embarrassed by it and really upset for Scott, Moreso as they put his Mrs down as JUNE and not JAYNE!!! I tried guy's...I'm sorry it turned out a washout!!! If anyone goes to the press or TV by e-mail make sure you use the word "alleged" before the word thief. The last thing we wont is for some smart Solicitor to get them of because of any comments used. They will through the Human Rights arguement at us, because they are innocent until proven guilty. We must be seen to be playing the game with the police.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear friends - been out of touch for a couple of day as I have been out searching. The update news on Bentley is that a couple of very good leads are in the hands of police. They have visited a number of addresses but without a result as yet. I cant yet say where the information that the police have has come from in case the site is being observed by the 'Alleged ' thiefs. I do not wish to put anybodys personal safety at risk and to disclose the nature of the information would do this. As an aside - if i may be permitted - Whilst the police are now persuing an active investigation it is sometimes two steps forward and one step back - My son Scott was involved in a telephone altercation with a member of the travelling community regarding the recovery of another stolen dog. The other party made extreme and violemt threats agains Scott and his family. Scott quite rightly called the police . As he is the licenced holder of a number of shotguns he holds 5 guns - what happened ? without any due reason they have confiscated his guns. What action against the threatening party ? Despite the facet that he can be identified -NONE-Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tash, wait until youve been doing stolen/lost dogs for years like some of us have. It doesnt get any easier......you just get a little hardened. And then throw in some animal rescue into the pot. Mix it up and you get tears, heartache and sorrow. Emotions run wild, and you do have to step away for just a few moments to gather your thoughts and move on. The next dog is out there waiting for our help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear All, I am still involved 100% and offering all I have to continue with finding Bentley and getting those "Things" convicted. I've had what I'd call as a "Get my head together" day today which is why It's only now at this time I've logged in. All of us on this site are like a family, we get to know eachother, chat, pm, sometimes laugh, swear, rant & rave etc. My personal guess is all of you have got to "Know" me through the latter part. Last night however I was asked to make a "Negotiation" call to hopefully aide the safe return of RED, STAFF BULL EN8. I gladly made the call, What I got in return on the end of my phone is unprintable. The verball abuse directed at me was fine, Sticks and Stones etc, The other things said totally shocked, replused and it actually left me totally unable to answer to the point the best I could do was cut the call. I cut that call, dropped my phone and was actually shaking, Then I sobbed like a baby. As you guy's know I'm far from a person to be rattled and it takes a hell of a lot to break me. Last night I never slept and pm'd our Jayne the full convo etc also explaining I'm handing my resignation in so to speak. Today I've had some "Quiet Time" and I've now decided I WON'T be beaten. I have worked flat out all week, Hardly slept, Hardly ate so I guess taking that onboard that call just ended it for me for this week. Guy's I want to apologise to you all for letting you down today and doing basically nothing to help. I'm getting my head straight as we speak and promise to be back on form from tomorrow ( Good ole Brandy!!! ) Thanks to all of you....Love Tash xxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I haven't been able to follow all of this - it's too painful to think of the poor puppy being abused in such a disgusting fashion. It brings back the theft of my 3 Salukis at a hound racing event in March last year. The thieves smashed in the back window of my car and dragged the dogs out. One was able to slip his collar and escaped within minutes; the second was found 12 days later, in a poor physical state, on a travellers' site some miles away; the oldest dog, my darling Ralph, is still missing. Poor Ralph was wearing a half-choke collar as well as his regular greyhound collar, so would not have been able to get away. I nursed him through a life-threatening illness when he was just 1 yr old and it was his 11th birthday on 22 Sept, if he is still alive. I feel so much for what poor Bentley's owners must be going through. Young boys were involved in the theft of my dogs too, and they were photographed following me around and eyeing up my dogs. The Police were not able to identify those boys.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

OK I havent caught up on all recent posts but I have heared enough. What I feel for these scum is not in the heat of the moment its heart felt and very real. I have not seen the CCTV footage and god I dont want to. I think if I did Id be more determined than ever. Id travel to get these scum and believe me I would. I may not have been as vocal as some on this matter but believe I could turn into a real monster faced with (people?) who could do something like this. I hope they rot in hell and Luara I hope the ones who took your 2 and badly hurt your other dog do the same. I realise this puppy has hit the headlines, bigtime, but has anyone thought to contact all local and not so local Vets/ animal clinics etc., on the offchance Bentley may have been taken there by his captors, to have any injuries attended to. Dear Bobs, I believe we possibly maybe getting a dedicated forum for all of us to let off steam so to speak to eachother on all our feelings, thoughts, anger, sadness, emotions etc. I might of got that wrong though so please don't quote me just yet on it. As regards to concentrating solely on the safe return of our boy Bentley I totally agree. Whilst I personally WON'T apologise for being me and dealing with this hidious situation the ONLY way I know how I WILL agree that EVERYONE should now DROP going on and on about PREVIOUS "bad taste" threads that included swearing, offers of violence etc. For EVERY "Complainer" there's another person "Backing" the swearer so to speak....ALL of us are now AWARE of the possible pending law suits etc that Doglost "could" occur due to us Dog Lovers having the FREE right of expressing our "own" opinions of whats gone on here. I'll admit I'm the WORST of ALL OF YOU when it comes to swearing and fighting and whilst SOME of you may find me offensive, others find me amusing, genuine, loyal, hardworker etc etc. I'm ME and WON'T be changing for ANY of you, However I WILL respect that WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT and as you CAN SEE I HAVE STOPPED SWEARING!!!!! So now can WE ALL STOP wasting time waffling on about threads, legalities blah blah blah and do what WE ALL do best.....FIND OUR BLOODY DOGS.......I now dare any of you to complain about bloody....LOL Love Tash xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear Friends - I have read with interest the postings by Nik and Ian. i agree with the principles expressed. However I stress again as I said earlier the particularly brutal nature of this particular theft has touched a particularly raw nerve in many dog lovers. It was bound to evoke a particularly emotive response. That shows that people really DO care and get angry at the disgusting treatment that some dogs get. What has made the resolution of this case even more difficult and frustrating has been the fact that authority has had to be pushed every step of the way. to take effective action. I would now like to ask that we put the issue of how we respond to these kind of acts aside and concentrate solely on getting Bentley back home safely. We have had response from three major dailys and Our Dogs are carrying it front page this week. THe issues of how we conduct ouselves in this forum would make an excellent thread topic within this site and would not detract from our searches for not only Bentley but all other missing dogs. I've been watching this thread from the beginning and was totally disgusted by what happened. I really hope this poor pup is found soon and I admire all the people who have helped on this mission. I just saw on tv that Tony Blair was answering questions on Labour's web site. I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to ask wasn't it about time animals stopped being treated as goods and why the police don't take it seriously when dogs are stolen, and why they do not put a stop to puppy farming etc. The trouble is, every time I clicked on 'ask a question' it just took me back to the previous page. If anyone else wants to give it a try it's on www.labour.org.ukLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sometimes you have to USE the system to get what you want. The bottom line is that if you prejudice the case there will be no prosecution, and frankly, make the media not want to touch the story with a barge pole. Add that to the problems it will cause to DogLost and we'll have achieved nothing. Let's get Bentley back first and then worry about the rest.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Doglost can not afford the legal bills --- or the negative publicity -- when people do harm to an innocent, all be it a puppy -- a child -- or someone vuneralbe it will cause an emotional response, and a public outrage, people say things in the heat of the moment and rarely mean what has been said -- I think that all patrons to this site have had an emotional response to the mistreatment of an innocent, is it not human nature to protect the vunerable and defend them from harm (ask a mother) I am guilty of the same thing --- I have read and been outraged to the extent of feeling the emotional response that makes me want to do the same to them, BUT, in reality i would prefer to watch them dragged away from their family and friends, have their records mared for life, and let reality sink into their sick minds. -- that is the job of the court -- TO PUT THEM AWAY. The police may not like our public methods of gaining information and raising awareness, BUT. When a group of determined people drive for the same cause -- the unlikely becomes attainable. If it were not for the efforts of Jayne and the patrons of this site who give up free time to help and assist others in their times of need, when their emotional strength is at its weakest. A simple line of encouragement on a web page may be all that is needed to keep them going...... I have reunited a few dogs with their owners ... the look of relief and unspoken gratitude can not be measured in money or time spent -- there is a quote that all should remember " A FRIEND IN NEED - IS A FRIEND IN DEED" --- this is not about being vigalanties or dog police -- this is about helping another person who is in pain and turmoil -- WE should all be PROUD of the efforts that we make to help others, In our time of NEED those people we have helped will gladly spend their time to help us -- WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND ------ IAN Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi bob i can tell you on good authority. you can apprehend anyone who is either on your property or you have reason to think that a crime has or is about to be commited.also you can use reasonable force to detain the above mentioned.but what you or I think is reasonable force the courts may not.but that has to be witnessed to be proven.xxxxxpollyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Knoxy - i see where you are coming from - BUT - this is not a straight forward case of a dog going missing ,but the theft of a young puppy under the most appaling circumstances. Anyone who has seen the cctv coverage will verify that fact. In a case like this finding Bentley and hunting down those responsible for his ill treatment and theft are one and the same thing - one cannot be done without the other. We are not advocating any illegal means , but we will, as is our legal right, find those responsilbe and hand them over to the proper authorities using our powers as citizens and using no more force than is necessary. And before any one challenges it there is a legal power of arrest by citizens - check with any solicitor involved in criminal justice.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I personally feel that some of the comments in this thread have started to get out of hand. I am sure that none of us want to shake the hand of anyone who is cruel in any way to any dog, other animal or human being. I know its very hard but for the sake of the forum we should try not to go over the top by putting our bitter feelings in writing, we must not get involved in legalities. At the end of the day it could cost the forum a fortune in legal bills and it could help those persons responsible for the crime to get off with any charge, I am sure none of us want to see that, we all want justice. We should all be concentrating on getting the poor Bentley home. Let the Police and relevant Authorities deal with those responsible, I understand that we are here to help find lost dogs, we are not here to hunt down those who steal them. We are not the Dog Police nor do we want to be seen as vigilantes. Last but not least, those of you involved in the front line have done a great job so far and I for one are very proud of you all. Keep up the good work, but keep it legal. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Folks - I did not intend to indicate that the police were complaining about the campaign. i am aware that it was not them and i am aware of who did make the complaint. Yes dog theft is an emotive subject and yes people will get wound up and militant about it - but perhaps people wouldnt get so wound up and frustrated if the statuatory authorities performed the duties ,for which we pay them, with some degree of efficiency instead of more or less forcing the citizen to take their own actions and then castigating them for it. Of course the question remains - When does self help become vigilante action ?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Suze... it was NOT the police - I have already said this. No-one is protecting the theives and as we understand it, the police are now co-operating, which was the entire aim, to get them to listen. It should also be pointed out that if this matter went to court (as we hope it does) then the publishing of the photos of the theives on here could be detrimental to a prosecution. We do not want that and we are determined that these two boys are accountable. We have to, sometimes, play by the rules.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Nik as you know we voiced our concerns to you about this thread in the beginning when you first warned about the legal consequences. We in this household fully support Doglost and spend some part of every day looking for lost dogs. We have every sympathy for Bentley's owners, as we have for all owners of lost dogs, we can imagine just how we would feel if one of our whippets went missing. However we have refrained from posting on this site because of the nature of thread which often looked like we were a vigilante body. We are therefore pleased that we are getting back to the most important search for Bentley and we wish everyone involved good luck in the search.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yup, I think we all understand the situation well enough - it all comes under the same usual aspect of householders not being allowed to defend their own property. Have just had a long conversation with Jazzi abouot removal of the pics from site. I understand but disagree with them. I do, however, understand that doglost must protect their interests and i fully support that stance I would also comment that the if the organisation making an 'official' complaint about the thread, undertook their own responsibilities in a more efficient manner we may not be in the situation we are today. Instead of trying to prevent the feelings of the 'alleged' thiefs behind upset by legal niceties they should be helping us to catch them. Doglost and all their wonderful supporters have provided the main impetus behind our efforts to get Bentley home again. The police have had to be pushed along every step of the way to comit themselves to any form of efficient investigation. I realise that this particular incident may not rank very high in thier list of priorities but there again we arent doing 31 mph in a 30mph speed limit. AND it is only a dog !!!!! AND it is only the third time Scott has had his property violated With full cctv coverage and no effective police action !!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bobby we are being inundated with calls for and against we are trying to keep everyone on board-Now the names of the 2 lads have been handed to the police the thread has done its duty-lets concentrate on finding Bentley now. Also another reason is that this thread is the busiest we have ever had and as such is slowing down the download of the front page-took me 2 minutes this morning! We are going to change the date to the same date as Bentleys post to keep the series to gether and also to help with download time. Rachel is on holiday for one week so we are running short staffed. Dear All - been catching up on the days events - things are really moving on the publicity front. We have a couple of names via the luvverly Tash that may yet reveal a positive result. I am however getting concerned that despite all the publicity, 7000 hits on this site and 2000 on my own site, the sterling work done by Tash and many others, Scott and his 'gang' that we have not had so much as ONE even possible sighting of the little fella. We are front page on 'Our Dogs' this Friday plus strong possibles for a couple of major daily papers and national TV. Even the police are sort of taking an interest !!!!! ARE WE MISSING SOMETHING. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE WE CAN DO ???? Bob GreenLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tash you're doing a brill job - things wouldn't be so far on if you hadn't done what you have done. But I do have to agree with Jazzi and one or two others. My kids and their friends are logging on here to see how things are going and I don't think the full display of swear words helps our cause or sets a good example. I'm not getting at you just pointing out that lots of kids view this site as well as the adults - Hope we can locate Bentley very soon, love to his family - ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

With regard to the swearing, I can be foul mouthed and aggressive as good as anyone on this board (Jayne can verify this) and I dont get offended easily, but we all have to remember there is a time and a place for it. Tash... as one of the moaners, we have to deal with the complaints about the language that is coming in - we have thousands of people viewing this site and it's offending some of them. Whilst we're dealing with complaints about language, we aren't dealing with finding stolen dogs. And if we offend people, they won't help us... and that affects the owners of other stolen and missing dogs - we need all the help we can get. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jayne, why is everyone moaning about the language, aggression, thoughts etc on Bentley's Profile. The people are voiceing opinions, hurt, anger, frustrations on what's gone on. Surely the one's "moaning" can give us a break on this one and put they're comments to more use other than moaning. It boils down to the same thing, We ALL are DIFFERENT, We ALL BEHAVE & ACT DIFFERENT. I'm foul mouthed, Foul tempered and express myself with Foul Language coz THAT'S ME 24-7 I'm not putting anything on for Doglost as you know Jayne by our endless chats so speaking on behalf of the rest of the Tash's I believe the "moaners" should back off a bit please. Names are good, since nothing better came from the CCTV pics. But a word of caution here everybody. DogLost has a really good profile and whatever gones down here could damage it. For a number of legal reasons keep details, inner thoughts and actions to PMs. I want the story to be about Bentley being back not GBH. If the police question them, then we can use their names in connection with that. If they get charged it becomes subjudice and there should be no discussion other than who has been charged with what.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i was shown this web in a group, i don?t live in England and haven?t done for over 16 years now i am so ashamed of things like this happeneing what is happening to the kids in todays world, i have three children and if any of them where involved in something like this i would be the first one to hand them over, i have always tried to teach my children how important animals are to us, I AM NOT A DOG LOVER, BUT AND I REPEAT BUT I WOULD NEVER EVER EVER DO ANY THING TO HURT THEM, HAVE YOU SEEN THE POOR BABYS CUTE LITTLE FACE, MAKES ME FEEL LIKE CUDDLING HIM, I REALLY AND TRULEY HOPE YOU FIND BENTLY ASAP, AND SAFE THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, the police and rest should do more to help out in these situactions especially if they have criminal records even if they are underage, they should but put away and the key thrown away too, good luck and thanks for reading this, love Letti Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well lets see what they are going to do first-then if they do not do anything plan b-lets get everyone to e mail the police station to ask them what they are going to do-but first lets find out from the owners the police's response and what they want us to do-they have the names now(Well done to Tash) If they are reluctant then it is back to the press again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If the police will take urgent action with this it is preferable ( but they might be manning speed cameras or sommat) Whilst we obviously want Bentley back safe and well we dont want to spoil the chance of locking these bar stewards up through lack of legal due proccess. Apart from that if my Scott and Tash get their hands on these people they are more likely to get locked up than the villains. I mean we wouldnt want them to be denied their human rights ( would we !!!!!!) BobLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There Solicitors will be on call or a Duty Solicitor will go down to the Police Station. It is not in the Police's interest not to start questioning early as they can only hold them for a limited time before charging. Obviously one has breached his regulations regarding his tag and the Police will take this very seriously. Obviously one has previous but this can only be taken into account for sentencing. Saying all this, it will go in the youth's favour if he does tell the Police what they have done with bentley and I am sure there Solicitors will be telling them this. Being tagged is a good thing though - his exact location will be recorded on a computer somewhere... and his movements will be traceable... looks like a cut and dried case on that one, if you ask me (and if the police bother!!).... and as he's tagged the proof of him committing another offence should be enough to lock the b****r up for a bit longer.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear All, I've just met Bentley's mum at his home. Had a look round the garden and Jayne ( mum ) explained all to me on how it happened, where etc. I have one of her cctv footage pictures which is a bit clearer than what I have also one of her own posters she made. As I said earlier Bentley lives opp a Sainsbury main Depot, I've been there and couldn't speak with main gate house as loads of lorries waiting to get out, I did however go into it's sister company ARC or ACR which is nextdoor. Met a fellow Mastif Breeder, He's putting the word out for me and has Bentleys pic. Mr Mastif went on to tell me he had a break in at home and his Bitch Mastif took the Ass clean off the bloke who broke in leaving a hand size of flesh on the floor.....The Burgular took Mr Mastif to court and SUED HIM FOR ?2,500 DAMAGES!!!!!!! Does that take the P*SS OR WHAT!!!! Now on my way to the Green Man Pub then bacck to King Harold School. Speak Later - Love Tash xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Also Britannia Nurseries, Spoke to the owner regarding these Orange Gloves and he said they aint used in Nurseries as thorns would go straight through them. Hi I have been following this since I first found our on 22/9/05 and I am sickened by what I have heard. They are scum of the lowest order. I notice you are now discussing a possible uniform for one of the youths. Can I make a suggestion. Could it possibly be a scrub as in what people use in vets and hospitals. Could they have been after the puppy all along, Have many dogs from the vets where the puppy is registered been stolen. I know it's very Inspector Morsy but I thought it looked very familiar and I've spent both time in hospital and at the vets. I know it sounds ludicrus but please ask those questions at your vets as I am frightened that it could be a made to order kidnapping. I hope for better news and my heart goes out to you, I have been worrying about this since I first founfd out about it. I can't sleep for thinking about Bently. Please I hope you are OK. Re other postings re uniform- if store is Morrisons uniform is black . If old safeways not yet converted then it is still Green, Nearest stores to waltham cross are Morrisons. nearest old safeways are 10 miles away in Chingford or Palmers green. Other possiblities are Dairy crest or Arla- milk deliveries which may both wear green. Info from a helpful lady at Morrisons. May be just chasing a wrong lead but any one in that area may know more- and worth posting around these places?? JaneLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi on the other link showing the slime ball dressed in all green, if you enlarge it it looks like this is a uniform of some kind. it doesnt look to be chav style clothing or even sports gear like on this picture. someone suggested morrisons bay workers wear this type of clothing on their loading bays.just a thought is there a morrisons local to this dreadful theft.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

School photos is a possible idea, but even if these lads are at school age dont think they are the type to go. Maybe the best idea is to target all high schools in the area and the owners take photos straight to the head of the schools. If they dont attend school or have done so in the previous years we know we are looking for a certain type of person. ie the wandering type.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My boyfriend used to live close to this area and has said that Lea Valley High, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield 'allegedly' has the rough kids there and there is a council estate round the back. Enfield and Waltham Cross merge in certain areas so they could go here. There is also Albany Secondary School. Have these schools been contacted? Have posters gone up in the local McDonalds, kids always hang around there. Hoping for some news soon of this little fellaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

One reason why they have not been spotted yet is, they may well live, how can I put it, in homes on wheels. If that is the case they will be in hiding and feel protected. Anyone know if there are any local sites in Waltham Cross? Maybe the offer of a high reward will make one of their kind spill the beans. Just a thought.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello fello dog lovers! I am sick to the stomach at these fxxxers scum gits. I live in Cheshunt/Goffs Oak and am in the process of printing posters to put up all over the place and I have already posted to all in my address book via e mail and on our works web pages and have had a lot of reply's by shocked dog owners. My partner David and I own 4 dogs and we are so paranoid even to let our babies go out in the garden through fear of what might happen to them. I will also post the info Hoddesdon way as my sister lives that way and Broxbourne where my parents live. Come home safe very soon Bently we all love you so xxx Sarah and DavidLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Do e mail me on admin@ doglost.co.uk tomorrow to remind me! AND he promised me a signed shirt! Okay I will swap it for an announcement! I think that is a good idea - These are not young children to me, they are teenagers and any crime they commit they should not get away with. I posted further down about the money going to fund a private prosecution and I still think it is a good idea as I can't see them being prosecuted by the authorities. A friend of mine saw some boys kicking what she thought was a football about, it later turned out to be one of her cats. The police wouldn't prosecute so she took out a private prosecution. The boys parents weren't too pleased with her or any of the other villagers and she was not very popular for a while. One of the 'youths' has gone on to more violence. I have just logged on and read some of this horrific story. It is utterly appalling. Just a thought - lowlife like this will be claiming benefits without a doubt, and to do so will need support from local Careers Offices. Worth approaching local Benefits and Careers Offices, and asking for this photo to be distributed amongst all their advisors, one of whom MUST know this revolting apology for a person? It may already have been done, but if not could throw up some clues. I used to work in the youth training/employment field and kids like these were known to myself and every one of my colleagues within a 20 mile radius. Please let this poor little fellow be found soon. It is heartbreaking.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear All - have just been reading the overnight postings. Many thanks to you all . THe reward fund must be getting up towards the ?1500 mark - lets just see what that brings out of the woodwork !!!!! All additional contributions wil be accepted with gratitude. My latest information on the police investigation is that they ARE now mounting an efficient investigation - for which we offer our thanks. For obvious reasons I cannot give details of this on site - just in case. Its just a shame that I had to email their divisional superintendent to kick start it. I take on board the legal implications of the allegations being made about the youths involved. However, with the evidence at our disposal I am quite happy to assume the risk of litigation should the allegd thiefs care to contact me !!!!! Apologies for interupting this post with an apology but I see our resident nut Krystina is back again using yet another alias. For all those of you recieving PM's please accept our apologies for her actions... please contact a co-ordinator for confirmation of how she recovered her dog - in the correct manner, with dog wardens and police acting together with doglost to get him back home safely. Sadly she has decided in her mind this means that Jayne/us co-ordinators stole Duke - from 250 miles away and after he had already disappeared. Legal action is underway and our website provider will be lodging a complaint with her IP provider and banning her completly from this site shortly. For those owners who are being called by her, she has a polish accent, sometimes uses a friend to call and will give a false name, usually saying she is a freelance journalist or sometimes the owner of another dog on the site. She is unable to tell you her full name or give you the name of the paper she supposedly works for and will call at all hours of night or day and will insinuate that doglost is hiding your missing pet somewhere. Please contact us urgently for details of her telephone number if you wish to contact her and tell her your thoughts and to block her calls from your lines, or to get her IP address to prevent her emailing you. Her husband is aware of her actions but says it is nothing to do with him and is condoning her behaviour, seemingly sitting beside her whilst she makes these calls. Once again I'm sorry that the genuine work of volunteers here is being interupted by this lady. Dee Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think its great that there are pictures showing who they are. I hope the area is flooded with these pics and they see every one of them. Hope this baby is found very, very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
