Dunstable, Bedfordshire on Sunday (26 April) by passers-by. She was clearly in the middle of a difficult labour so the member of public rushed her to a vet where she was given an emergency caesarian.

Four out of five puppies - three girls and a boy - were born safely, although one sadly died. The mother, now named May, is under veterinary treatment for a uterus infection and is very poorly.

RSPCA inspector Mel Fisher said: “Someone had just left this dog, and her pups, to die.

“There was no way this dog was going to be able to give birth naturally - it was clear there were complications. She was breathing heavily in a laboured way, and had a bloody discharge.

Carol. That would be great
ClaireC
Carol would think you need to make that known to the rspca on one of the tel nos above. Good for you. Good luck x
Carol
I can foster her when her puppies don't need her anymore with view to adoption xxxxx

Have to say that the town of Dunstable is pretty large and even people can get "lost" in it!

You would think someone would know the so called owner, who owned a Yorkie but no longer does. shame the owner cant be dunped, especially from the highest mountain.
Veronica
Don't hold your breath for a caring owner to turn up. An ITV report reckons this poor dog was dumped due to similar circumstances to those described by Nicky B.

http://www.itv.com/news/london/2015-04-28/dog-cruelly-dumped-and-left-to-die-in-alleyway-while-giving-birth-to-her-puppies/

Hopefully her future will be much better than her past.

Well said jasper. you areabsolutely right. Coluld not agree more, WELL SAID.

1 of my dogs was abandoned with her 3 newborns.mum very ill, turned out she was trying to give birth to 4th but dead puppy.owners not prepared to pay estimated £300 bill ........ vet said she was about 8 and had had many litters.some heartless people around. this little yorkie - like my little mum - will now have a new start and her puppies go to kind people now she is the hands of rspca. she may of course have escaped from home..... interesting to see if she is microchipped and/or reclaimed
lesleyjane
Assume local vets have been contacted as owner may have taken her there for pregnancy check ups?

It's the "back yard" breeders who are as much to blame as the puppy farmers for the number of unwanted dogs in this country. If nobody bought these puppies, they would stop. There is NEVER a good reason for breeding. No exceptions.
Angel
I totally agree with all comments. All animals should be spade / neutered unless there's a very good reason to breed them, and you're licensed to do so. Glad mum and babies are now safe. x

Really pleased to see mum and pups in a safe place. Sometimes bitches do just take themselves off to give birth wherever they want and it may just be so in this case rather than being dumped - lets all hope so! Hope wherever she is being looked after the the rspca (which I am sure they will do) will ask for proof of ownership especially in this locality! Maybe she could be renamed Lady Kate or Kate! Do please try to update us. Thank you.Last edited: 2015-04-29 11:50:03 by ClaireC

So pleased her, and her babies are in safe hands. I hopoe she wasn`t dumpoed. The sensible thing if that is the case is to have youe dog/cat neutered/spayed etc in my opinion. Unless you intend to breed it is called common sense. If not claimed am sure these will find loving new homes. Keep us posted
