Hi all. Sincere apologies for the delayed response but unfortunately I’ve had issues accessing my DogLost account . The last official sighting of Hugo was late 2015 when a man picking up his paper from a shop in Hyde picked him up, hugo went to bite him so he dropped him, it wasn’t until later he saw the poster and contacted us. Again apologies for the lack of updates. Since then we have had nothing concrete. The nearest we have come in the last two years is two possible sighting near micklehurst road in Mosley (where he has been seen before). If anyone is near to that area or anywhere near any sightings it is much appreciated for whoever keeps their eye out for the little man. Hugo wasn’t my dog but I made two very good friends in his owners and although circumstances have changed I will never give up on the little man and I hope you will all stand by me and the little terror in the hope of bringing him home one day xx

Many, many thanks NIX, I've passed this information onto Hugo's owners.
NIX
Hi, just recently saw the poster this week at Hattersley roundabout and I don't want to raise hopes but I may have seen little Hugo near the roundabout about a month ago on the road out of Hyde. He looked very overgrown and I stopped the car to try and get him to come over cos he looked like a stray. He almost did but then changed his mind and walked away I did try and steer him away from the motorway which I did and he ran off towards the estate. My mum has a yorkie and I know these are super little characters. I use this area a lot and so does my dad who has two Weimaraner dogs. I will be driving round the area and keep an eye out for him and if any luck I will post on here. Like I said I cant be sure it is him but it's worth a shot and like so many on here I too am not interested in the reward would just like to see him home. Also asked my partner to keep a look out for him as she lives In the area. So lets all keep looking and find this little fella.
DogLostOwl
Little Hugo has just popped up again :) From his facebook page: Sighting of Hugo @ 4pm today near the round-a-bout at Hattersley heading towards Bunker Hill?? Dirty, matted and very scared. The lady went back and tried to coax him over but he ran off.

Bumping Hugos page as he is featured in the DogLost column of the July edition of Dogs Today magazine, out now.
I do it it brings some news
DogLostOwl
Latest from Bev: "Another Sighting!!!
Today at around 11 this morning - old Hall Lane, Mottram... He's def doing the rounds!!!"
DogLostOwl
Looks like Hugo may be on the move again, crossposting Bev Hannible's update: "we have just had another potential sighting. Although it's not anywhere near the last sightings, it's not entirely impossible as this falls within the triangle he has been using. At around 22.50 this evening, he is believed to have been seen crossing the road near the Dysarts Arms pub on Huddersfield Road, Mossley, coming from the direction of Winterford Road. There hasn't been anymore sighting in Hattersley since Sunday, so it's absolutely possible it could have been him... He has made his way back home before - a stones throw away, and them reappeared in Dukinfield!
A search is being organised for next Sunday. Details to follow.

I have shared Hugo to Spotted Oldham in the hope that someone may recognise him xx

Courtney
Hi all
most searchers are still out searching but due to commitments I often struggle to make searches so im sat at home filling out all the admin work...... just been posted on facebook and confirmed that the dog seen with a limp isn't Hugo but there are other sightings in the same area of a dog being seen not limping running around near the fields. will keep updating as the night goes on xx
susieq666
Oh, I do hope you get him. Wish I was in your area.
DogLostOwl
And another sighting today, same area. Hugo is now looking dirty and matted and was limping. The team are out in force tonight, and have been joined by Harvey's Army volunteers. Good luck everyone.
DogLostOwl
Searchers have been busy postering the new area, and now other people have been calling to say they have seen a dog of this description.
Karen

DogLostOwl
At last, another possible sighting. From his Facebook page: "Hi I work nights in tameside and glossop I think that we may have come across Hugo at Hattersley Macdonalds at approx 4am this morning looks very much the same as the dog I saw,it was looking for food I tried to coax with food, but he became scared and ran towards the fields on the other side of the roundabout."
DogLostOwl
Plenty of food to scavenge, leftover chips etc, but he seems to be using the canal path and there will be small rodents there.
duffs54
How is this little chap surviving, do you think he is eating food left out for cats maybe, or are they good at hunting, bless him he must be hard to spot being so small, fingers crossed he is home asap xxx
BMdevon
Good luck for tomorrow. I always check the reunited pages before I go to bed and I desperately want to see Hugo there. I'm in the very far south west so can't help physically but I'll be there in spirit for what its worth.

A message from team Hugo:
We are arranging another search for next Saturday, 17th May.
Whilst we understand that the chances of catching him or seeing him are very slim, we need to keep it fresh in people's mind that he is still out there and is still being seen. We need help postering and giving cards out to help us get those important calls!
If you can help, even if it's just for an hour we will be meeting at ' The Bread Shop ' Chester Avenue, Dukinfield - facing Astley Sports Collage off Yew Tree Lane @ 10am.
Thank you!!

And another possible sighting has been reported from 9.30 this morning, just off Carr Lane.
DogLostOwl
Possible sighting on Queensway today, running between two parked cars.
DogLostOwl
Thank you Angus. Hugo's inclination seems to be to stay around housing, where there is food to be scavenged and places for a little dog to shelter.
DogLostAngus
My dogs breeders live on that road Owl - I will call them and ask them to keep an eye out for him, there is a path that leads up to the woodland and then onto the moors so need to try to keep him where there is housing Last edited: 2014-03-21 06:21:27 by Angus

Hi, sorry I've not updated on here for a while it's become a habit that the updates go on Hugo's Facebook page 'Hugo-Missing' and only because it gets the information out quicker to the Hugo team. But of course I'm not forgetting dog lost is where the Hugo team started and there are followers on here from out of the area too which is great.
We are still getting numerous sightings in dukinfield which we are confident is Hugo, just a case of working out his route now & hoping he starts using the feeding stations we have set up.
Just wanted to say thank you everyone for the lovely comments wishing us luck that we get Hugo home, I do hope I'll be writing that one day soon. Also thank you Phebe for removing what I believe we're nasty comments below, I'm glad I didn't get to read them. Big thank you to springermad in her reply to this horrible individual too, I'm sure I couldn't have put it better myself :)

Dear oh dear, you are rather a sad person Zeta, coming on here for what seems no other reason than to spread negativity. Your ignorance on missing dogs is astounding. Run along now there's a dear. And people do not waste time on responding to this troll.

More sightings posted by Bev:

Yesterday afternoon at 3.30pm on the canal at the back of Phoenix City Chinese Restaurant. He was actually seen on the canal!
Also, another possible sighting near Newton For Hyde train station around 5.30pm. A little dog was seen following a young lad, and the lad kept turning round as if to say 'why are you following me?!'. This isn't a confirmed sighting, but we can't rule it out either.

Another sighting reported from Thursday. On Birch Lane a gentleman managed to pick Hugo up, but again was not able to hang on to him. He did see the bone shaped tag.
DogLostOwl
Sighted yesterday at 2.30 near Morrisons.

Searchers have been doing all the usual things that we recommend, but Hugo still keeps scuttling about and there are so many cuts to nip down and gardens to get into, and by now he must know Dukinfield like the back of his paw.

Update.... Had another 2 sightings on Saturday the 22nd, one on mottram road and one on dukinfield road running towards lower Bennett street.... If people could keep an eye out in Hyde, woodley and gee cross that'd be great :) x owl please could you pass your email onto Kelly or Bev so I can send you the list of sightings or you can send me the link to the google maps page you've started plotting on :) x
DogLostOwl
Just been mapping his route on Google maps. When we went up to help on Tues 18th, Wispa found his scent going round a circuit linked to Dewsnap Lane, and some very fresh scent around Cathedral Close in Dukinfield. From there to the Celtic ground via Whitelands Rd is just under 4 miles, which isn't far for him to go in say 5 days. I just wish he would stay put for a while!
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Another possible sighting of Hugo today, Mottram Road, Stalybridge, just past Stalybridge Celtic. Page bumped.
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I really wish he could be home soon. Good luck in your search.
Courtney
Hi all Hugo followers
There has been another sighting this at 06:45 this morning!!! He was running down Whitelands road from the slaughterhouse towards Stalybridge.
We have also had a few other sightings over the past few weeks around dukinfield (Boyd's walk, Armadale road and Dewsnap lane) which all link in. It would be really helpful if anyone in that area could keep a look out :) x
Will keep you all updated as things progress x
Cath
Sorry couldn't be with you on Saturday but I live fairly close to Armadale Road so will keep an eye out. He could easily get onto the Peak Forest Canal from Boyd's Walk so perhaps that's how he ended up there in the first place - he seems to be walking the canals.
konner
best of luck and everything crossed for tommorrow.sorry too far to help.there has been some wonderful results lately around the country lets keep it up.
Courtney
Hi Sarah
Thanks for keeping a look out but unfortunately he's got a bit too much tan to be Hugo xx

Due to recent sightings in dukinfield there will be a search going out from Dukinfield park, Pickford lane this Saturday 8th of Feb @ 9AM.
If anyone has even an hour to spare I'm sure your help would be greatly appreciated xx

Bumped due to recent information

"At last, another sighting!!! Last week we got a phone call from a chap who said he'd heard about an old lady who has found and 'given' a terrier type dog away. The guy who has the dog was bragging about it in a pub in Dukinfield. We have come out to Dukinfield today and whilst putting a poster up, a guy came up to the car and said he had seen him and was pretty sure it was Hugo. This was just before Christmas. We showed him more pictures and a video. He said he had given him some sausages and water. He then rang his girlfriend as he was unsure what to do, took some pictures and sent them to her. 'Hugo' then ran off. He has deleted the pictures but is contacting his girlfriend to see if she still has them. He said he managed to stroke him and that he felt very skinny... But look very shaggy.
As soon as we hear anything back from this lady, who hopefully still has the pictures, we will update. Please please keep sharing... You never know... And as you know, it only takes that one person to see it!
Thank you everyone for your continued support"

Still hoping for a safe return home. Sorry I am so far away.
Kelly
Hi sorry for late reply, couldn't get anymore details Lesley but I'm hoping I would have heard by now via the microchip ( that's if it got checked) definitely a flaw in the system!!!
I saw that found Yorkie Sarah it's not Hugo but thank you for double checking!
Posters in any area no matter what are always appreciated Lesley!!
I was thinking as well if people could possibly put posters up in the areas they live even if it borders anywhere in greater manchester it would be such a big help because Hugo could be anywhere potentially. If anyone does then if your ok with texting me your address I will be more than happy to send laminated ones in the post with cable ties. Local knowledge is always the best!! Thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks for all the constant help on here and on Hugo's Facebook page xx
Sarah
Not sure if you've checked the one out on the Wirral Gov site - http://www.doglost.co.uk/poster.php?dogId=63138#.UugRBhDFLIV
Lesley Brown
Kelly, regarding the one found in Wythenshawe. Can't the wardens even tell you where the dog went or did the finder keep or rehome it? I'll put an ad on Wythenshawe for sale or swap to see if anyone knows who found it and may be able to contact them that way. I know it's a stab in the dark, but worth a shot just in case. I live in Wythenshawe, so could also put a few posters up appealing for info.
Lesley Brown
Contact details for the one found on Xmas day.

Kelly, please take a look at the one listed on the Leigh Cats & Dogs Home site. Happy to go with you if you want to go and check in person.
Meanwhile, I'm going to try and find our which firestation it was. Maybe they'll have more info.
Lesley Brown
I was just about to post about the one at Leigh too Sarah. Yorkie cross so it could very well be Hugo fingers crossed x
I think the one found by the firefighters on Xmas day was rehomed very quickly. Great that the dog is safe and cared for, but difficult now for the real owners to trace where it went :(Last edited: 2014-01-25 13:32:13 by Lesley Brown

Could you check this one out. I'm not sure but Hugo's owner would know yes or no. At Leigh Dogs and Cats Home. No details of chipped or not and I know Hugo is so may well not be him. Thx https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=465160346921367&set=gm.10152117792638468&type=1&theater

Hi Lesley thanks for that. I contacted the dog warden re the one below and was told that following the person reporting to them that they had found the dog they have been unable to get in touch with them. So therefore no further details are known not even gender etc. this often happens when I contact the animal wardens. I guess the finders are doing their bit 'by law' by reporting the dog but surely any lack of further cooperation should be chased up in some way??? I'll try and get some advice regarding this from someone who knows what they're talking about, any ideas from who??x

Hi Owl
I think most of the old sheds and abandoned garages have been checked but im not sure about shops or empty houses. never really thought about that before. there aren't that many old/ empty buildings in the area where he was last seen but I think there are a few abandoned garages. will have a look next time im out x
DogLostOwl
Just a thought - have any derelict or empty shops or other premises in the area of sightings been checked? They are very good places for a dog living feral to set up camp, and may have outhouses in their yards.
honeyharvey
Sorry Kelly it is me Jeanne I did not see your message about the trap. Paula Jane Knowles has the trap she is admin on Pendle Dogs in Need site. It has just caught two lurchers successfully. It needs monitoring hourly and putting in a really secure area so it does not get stolen also. A garden or similar would be perfect if that is possible. I will send Paula a message and ask her to get in touch re the cage X
Courtney
Hi all here are the four most recent sightings that have been reported

21st – Winterford Road- Mossley, went through a gap in a garden fence - 1pm

1st- outside 'The Drum' social club, Mansfield Road, Mossley. 1pm

6th- Stamford road, Lees/Springhead 5pm

9th- Mansfield Road, Mossley, Daytime

just to let everyone know there is a search party going out from the roaches car park at the bottom of Winterford road between 11:30 and 12:00 on Saturday morning. it would be more than appreciated if anyone could spare an hour or two to join in the search!! :) thanks
Mark&Sam
Hi, Ive made a google map of the sightings. Its open for anyone to view.
You just need to copy and paste this link in your browser: http://goo.gl/GgNfrm

You can also email it to yourself and open it on your phone - click on the link in the email and choose "Maps" to open it when prompted, it will then pinpoint the sightings when you're out and about.

Anyone can visit the map and open it via this method. Just incase it helps with the search or when you get a sniffer dog.

I'll keep it updated with more sightings and info.

Hi honeyharvey firstly apologies for my late reply, I was waiting for another potential sighting as I was just so unsure if someone had picked him up or Hugo was still out there. There was a sighting on Stamford road ( lees/Springhead way) on Friday. I managed to get some cctv of this dog and although very unclear it has the same run and tail as Hugo. If I can borrow the trap it would be very helpful because if it was Hugo this is the only way I'm going to get him I think, how would I go about borrowing this?? Thank you so much

Great article in the Oldham Chronicle, the tagline is even featured on the front page.

Kelly/Bev, you need to keep an eye on the warden/dogs home just in case he is dumped as a result of the article.
Sue
Hi Kelly,

I have just asked my neighbour who I think may know someone with a scenting dog...will keep you posted. xxxx
Kelly
Hi Owl, my apologies Kathryn didn't actually give me any details so i was unaware of who it was. I'm glad to hear Wispa is now better but sorry to hear you are now poorly! Hugo is never seen in the same spot twice but instead always around the same area. We have a feeding station set up with a camera which we have not caught him on yet, once we do I have arranged to get a trap from the RSPCA in yorkshire. I think if anything Wispa will be able to help us locate his hiding places a bit better?? It really would be appreciated if you could come down. I would be more than happy to pick you up ( although I only have a seat belt on the back seat for Wispa not any kind of crate if that would be ok ) or obviously I would cover all of your costs. If you can contact me on my mobile when you think you might be better I would be so grateful. Thank You, Kelly & Hugo x
DogLostOwl
Hi, I think it my dog Wispa you mean. Yes, she has recovered from mystery virus thank goodness but I am currently down with a horrid fluey bug and not fit to go anywhere. This would be a round trip of 100 miles which is a strenuous one. The problem is that it would take a few days to map out all his routes. We might just be following him round in circles, and might not add anything to what you already know. But if you want us to give it a go, I could come over and see what we can do in one session once I am fit enough. There are not many dogs doing this work at present, and I don't know of anyone closer. Do you have access to a trap? This is more of a catching job than a tracking one if Hugo keeps visiting the same area. A cat trap would probably be adequate, a fox trap would be fine. But if you put a trap down it must be padlocked to something immoveable and watched round the clock or someone may steal trap, dog, or both.
Kelly
Hi Scoobster, it's not hugo but thank you for looking it's appreciated. Do you know details of any local scenting dogs? We have an area in Mossley where Hugo keeps appearing and so this would be so so helpful. Cath I've spoken to the police and they don't have a dog that is trained to find other dogs. I actually got a dog handler out in week one.
Scoobster
Similar looking dog pictured on Aspen Valley (Looks a little older but may just look rough from being out a while)

I have also put the pic on the Doglost Northwest Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=232718143561453&set=gm.10151981863203468&type=1&theater
Cath
The article also appeared in the Tameside Advertiser so here's hoping. Does anybody know a police dog handler who might know of a sniffer dog who could help?
Kelly
Hi Sue yeah I put a pic of him on the dog warden site (although may be worth doing again) I've also emailed all the vets in the area a pic of him. Did you say you might know someone with a scenting dog? Or does anyone know if the one derby area is better yet from the virus? There's been another sighting of Hugo on winterford road Mossley on Thursday at 1pm which is very near the roaches walk near the canal. The lady described him as shaggy & dirty so it's a strong possibility he could be still out there. A scenting dog would be fantastic, I've not had much luck on this front from day one but if someone could assist it would be so much appreciated
Sue
Maybe also send some posters to local vets - our vets is Gourleys in Ashton. Really want you to find him xx
Sue

Nice to see an article on Hugo in the free paper today Oldham Advertiser ! hope it brings in some more sightings/info x
Courtney
Hi Lorna I'll try both... The more publicity the better!! :)
Lorna
Sorry, pinked myself out.
Hi Courtney, haven't any contact details for Ian. Did ask Tameside Radio to forward an email with Hugo's photo and details on to Ian, but I never heard anything back.
Tameside Radio has over 3000 likes on fb so it might be worth asking them to share Hugo's latest poster or contacting them by phone to get Ian's contact details if you feel that's the better option x
Still looking out for him Kelly xLast edited: 2013-11-20 18:45:25 by Lorna

Kelly, thanks for answering my question. Glad to hear that it's going in the advertiser, I'm sure someone is keeping him in their home, and he can't stay hidden for long! If I can help in any way, please let me know x
Courtney
Just a thought but Lorna have you got any contact details for Ian Leonard?? might be worth getting back in touch with him and asking him to let his listeners know that Hugo is still missing... let me know and if not I will see if I can find some online somewhere. xx

Hi Kelly. Thank you very much for your kind message welcoming Barnaby home. I do so hope Hugo makes it back to you soon. I know the feeling you wake with every morning and how hard it is, but he's out there somewhere and I'm sure it's only a matter of time. The kindness and goodwill of people is extraordinary and I hope you get your happy ending soon. X
Springer sharon
Kelly, I just saw your comments on Barnabys sight. Keep faith, your little man is out there and lots of us are here to support you. Wish I was closer. Never give up and stay positive , I'm sure it's just a question of time. X
Kelly
Sorry Sue I almost forgot please also thank your friend for putting Hugo on the website,fb & twitter i can't ever explain how much I appreciate all this! And again think you for kindly asking them I don't know you but I could really give you a big hug right now :) x
Kelly
Sue that is absolutely fantastic thank you so so much!! It would be brilliant to get Hugo in the saddleworth independent!!! Claire Hughes the last sighting was in Mossley 3 weeks ago thank you for keeping an eye out, and obviously everyone else still looking,as I say you are all so kind. After lots & lots & lots of mithering we've managed to get the Tameside Advertiser to run a story on Hugo this week ( as he was last seen in Mossley) I'm really hoping this might bring some good news! Jayne could Hugo please be bumped up due to this?? Still every day we're actively trying to find little man & obviously missing him so much, come on Hugo nothing's the same without you I love you lots xx

Oh well done Sue!
Sue
A fab contact of mine at The Saddleworth Independent has just sent me this..!

Sue,

Thanks for getting in touch and I am happy to help - as a pet owner and lover myself I don't like to see things like this and not do anything.

I have uploaded an article and the poster to our website just now, and also shared it on our Facebook and Twitter. http://saddind.co.uk/?p=3119

Our next paper isn't out until December 6 but if I haven't heard that he's been found by then I'll see what I can fit in.

Thanks

x
Courtney
hi everyone still working on the quotes for posters and flyers etc. Kel i'll get in touch with the editors at the Oldham advertiser which is the free one on the stand in Tesco and will try a bit of earbashing at the Tameside advertiser. if anyone has any other suggestions they would be really welcome and I will happily follow them up!! :) x
Claire Hughes
So sorry Hugo hasn't turned up. Does anyone know where and when the last confirmed sighting was? I am in Grotton and keeping my eyes open. Keeping everything crossed for his quick and safe return x
BethK
Have you asked for an ad in the Mossley or Saddleworth browser?? They go in every house in the area for free. The editor is Mary 01457 810714. Really hoping Hugo turns up soon, putting the amount on the poster is a great idea, it could sway someone if they have taken him in knowingly. Like a lot of people if I spot him I wouldn't take a penny, just want to see you reunited. Fingers crossed xxx
Kelly
I've managed to get laminated normal a4 size posters done today which statesthe reward I've also done 100 laminated smaller posters for shop windows and counters ( as they don't tend to like posters taking up there space) Courtney is very kindly calling around some businesses today to get quotes for bigger posters to be made up. He's been mentioned on local radio but again something I'll try to push to happen again. The Oldham chronicle ran a story although not too big, I really want it in the Tameside advertiser but I'm having trouble getting them interested. This paper is delivered free to everyone in the Mossley area so every house will get it. I have to go via the men press officers to get a story in a local paper, if anyone knows anyone to do with the advertiser it would be a big help??? If not ill just keep mithering them until they do it. The information of the reward might sway them?? Really want to get this reward very high profile now!
Sue
I am sure most people wouldn't want to take a penny from you. Do you know any local printers who may do a favour for you and print the larger b2 or even 4 sheet posters? If not I have a contact who may be able to help!

Just don't give up hope. There are lots of happy endings to stories like this http://m.ksl.com/index/story/sid/27461362?mobile_direct=y http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2422833/Woman-reunited-long-lost-dog-3-years--living-just-8-miles-away.html. Our dogs are our babies BUT when needed their canine instincts kick in and it's amazing what they can deal with in their own. Sending you lots of positive vibes and with all these lovely people trying to help I am sure we will find him.

Have the local newspapers helped you out with a prominent appeal - first page if they can!!! Oldham chron etc? Saddleworth independent/ news - just thinking if an older person is feeding him they may not even get out to post offices etc and certainly won't be online. Radio websites also? X
Benion123
What is the best place you would recommend to search? I will take dogs over and have a look at weekend
Kelly
Max,mark&sam thank you so much all of you, everything is really appreciated. Hi sue,yes the local police stations all have posters and it's been put on their twitter. If there is another sighting ( you never know), then details for a scenting dog would be fantastic! The reward is £1000. I'm going to have new posters made up as at the moment they say substantial reward. I know for everyone it's not about the reward but even if someone passes me information that leads to me getting Hugo back safely I will gladly give it to them without refusal ( it would be handy Xmas money for anyone ) and my Christmas present would be getting my little man home :) x
Sue
Presumably the local police also have the info on Hugo and will perhaps keep an eye out for him if they are patrolling the area? xxx
Sue
Hi Kelly, my heart really goes out to you. We are also keeping our eyes open for the little fella. Just a thought from a 'marketing' point of view...are you able to say what the reward is? Just thinking if someone does have him then that could be the incentive for them. I am sure we would all chip in to help you with the reward. I have many leaflets in my bag that I have picked up from various places and the ones with the monetary value stated really stand out. Gosh I really hope you find him. We need some tracker dogs like red setters. I may know someone actually but where to start? Keeping everything crossed for you. xx
Mark&Sam
We keep an eye out for him everyday on way to and home from work. And also when out walking our dog.
I know lots of other people down here in Mossley are doing the same. We will keep it up as long as it takes.
Really hope you find him soon. The more eyes that are looking out for him the better. Remember most of the people he is likely to run into will just want to get him home to you x stay strong x

Hi I'm sorry I've not thanked people on here ( I did it on Hugos fb page ) but Saturday was a fantastic turn out & I appreciate everyone's help so much! I will not be able to get my little man back without you all. I think someone has taken him in now & unless they've been living on mars for the last few weeks they must know he's missing. I wouldn't even be surprised if they're reading this to see how the search is going. If you are I will find you because I will never ever give up. All I want is Hugo returned, dropped into a vets or somewhere safe or a phone call to me, you have my word there will be no questions asked. Me & Hugo are extremely close, do the right thing by him. Thank you
Cath
Sorry I couldn't make Saturday - my own dogs are in hydrotherapy Sat morning. I will come if you do another search though - I thinks its an excellent idea. Will still be looking nightly around Mossley area.

Good turnout of people for Hugo's search today. Bev and Kelly were really well prepared with packs for everyone. We split into groups and went in different directions. Paula and I did Mossley and put a poster in the golf club, pallet company on Edmont Street. Called at the farm at the top. Postered the canal from Egmont Street and gave a poster to a guy who keeps horses where he may have been sighted recently. No sightings but spoke to loads of people many who knew about Hugo already but thought he may have been caught. Got all the posters up and hopefully it will lead to a sighting now x

Update: The sighting yesterday was not hugo it was a grey schnauzer that walks itself around the estate. Apparently the same dog was around sunday morning too, people did describe hugo on sunday so i'm going to keep an open mind as to whether he was in the area. It's important that people are still looking for him in the mossley area as well and areas inbetween and the search on saturday will cover everywhere
Clare
Good luck Kelly. Fingers crossed you find each other soon. You really deserve too x
Kelly
Another sighting today: station lane grotton heading towards the park 12.40pm. I was only 20 minutes behind him having a walk around before I even got the information of the sighting! All these sightings are definitely Hugo because I'm meeting up with some of the people that have seen him and showing them videos and pictures of him and they're confirming it's him! He is looking very shaggy and grey however looks well kept and not really dirty so his hiding place must be a good one! Thank you to the people that came straight away to help search for him. We're getting closer! I'm convinced he's looking for me as much as I'm looking for him, fingers paws and everything crossed!

Message from Bev and Kelly: Hi everyone. We are planning a search on Saturday morning if anyone is free? We are obviously hoping to have him back home by then, but if not we are planing to do a search in the 'triangle' of area's he's been seen. If anyone can join us, we will be starting it at the old Grotton Station car park, Station Road Grotton @ 09.30. Obviously, the more people who can come, the more areas we can cover in a shorter space of time, and hopefully catch him whilst he's on his morning trek! Even if you can only spare an hour, it will be greatly appreciated

Thank you for everyone's kind comments and to everyone helping to look for Hugo. Konner it's a really good idea because I guess any sort of trained tracking dog would be some help. If anyone has any ideas or knows anyone etc with a gundog any details would be much appreciated and it's something I'll look into. Another feeding station set up, hoping 'the day' is coming soon!!

sorry in advance if this sounds stupid but if tracking dog out of action maybe you could try finding a working gundog who would be willing to try.i have gsps and their noses can scent upto 200yds on good scenting conditions and they can be used as tracking dogs.so sorry i am so far away(dorset)or i would try with mine.so hope he is home soon.

ANOTHER DEFINITE SIGHTING YESTERDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 9.30 AM STATION ROAD / THORNLEY PARK AREA GROTTON. I THINK HUGO IS TRYING TO GET HOME NOW AND IS VERY CLOSE BUT JUST GOING SLIGHTLY THE WRONG WAY. THE CHAP WHO SAW HIM TRIED TO ENTICE HUGO OVER TO HIM BUT HE WAS HAVING ONE OF IT AND HE WALKED OFF. HE SAID HE DID NOT THINK HUGO HAD A COLLAR ON HOWEVER AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURE ABOVE (WHERE HE IS WEARING A COLLAR) YOU CAN'T SEE IT WHEN HE'S SO SHAGGY. REALLY REALLY HOPING I GET LITTLE MAN HOME SOON.
Kelly
Just to add the descriptions given are off him being shaggy like in the second picture which is why I've put that on. You can't see his face I know but you get a better idea of what he looks like
Kelly
HUGO SIGHTED MONDAY 28th OCTOBER 9.30pm STOCKPORT ROAD NEAR THE KEBAB SHOP 'THE SPICE OF LIFE' RUNNING AWAY FROM THERE ACROSS THE ROAD INTO SOME WOODS TOP MOSSLEY!!
By chance I called the lady that was organising the bonfire at Mossley football club to kindly ask her if the bonfire could be checked prior to lighting it. She reassured me it was only built last night and is solid at the bottom. She then asked me what type of dog Hugo was and for his description, he actually ran in front of her car on the time etc stated above causing her to brake. Exactly the same as the other sighting in Mossley. She said he was running very fast. Hugo clearly has a super hiding in place in Mossley. Can everyone that lives around there please keep a look out for him or ask anyone they know that lives around there to do so. He definitely is not going to give himself up but the fact he's being seen means he's surviving and is popping out for food! Hopefully not long now.....
Cath
Hi Kelly. I have spent an hour every night between Egmont Street, Manchester Road and Scout Tunnel after dark but it is very noisy in that area due to Plevins. I saw the signs in the shop - I went to put some in after printer fixed. We have put the word around through friends who live in the area. There is also the Tameside Council Depot by the tunnel - some of the Countryside Wardens are stationed there. They might have seen him - I will try to find out
Kelly
Hi cath, yeah as Lorna says they've been up around there for a while. A few around there had been ripped down yesterday ( as others were still up I think this was just a case of idiots) I've replaced them and will look out to make sure they stay up. I've left feeding stations in the wooded area next to egmont street park which wasn't touched. Also in the wooded area at the bottom of Cheshire st ( the other end to the shop raja'a) and a very big badger ate it so I don't think Hugo will be on that side of the canal. I also left one near some stables at the bottom of Andrews st behind Manchester road which a cat continuously ate. I was only leaving it there for one day however have since read I need to leave it there longer. If anyone has any ideas or advice from the locations he's been seen as to where to set up the feeding station it would be much appreciated?? The problem is he's seen when on the move so his hiding place could be anywhere. Thank you
Lorna
Hi Cath, if you mean the shop with the green door and window frames (can't remember name), I put one up on the glass of the door when Hugo was first seen in that area a few weeks ago.
Cath
Hi Kelly - this is Cath who you spoke to in Stalybridge. I have been around Egmont Street several times recently but no luck. Have you put up a poster at the convenience store at the end? (My printer bust otherwise I would have done it sorry)Please will doglost send alerts to SK14 - most dog walkers from Hyde walk the canals although nobody can fail to have seen your posters anyway. There is still hope so carry on looking. Hugs all round
Kelly
Hi mosspage, I'd actually just seen that on the dog wardens page. It's not Hugo but again thank you for being on the look out. I'm still actively searching every day and put posters up in Oldham centre yesterday to spread the word that bit further. The lady that kindly called about the sighting on Tuesday (which was mentioned below) said Hugo ran down past the royal bank of Scotland across the road (her husband had to slam the breaks on because he ran in front of their car) and then past the commercial pub. They drove around for an hour looking for him but he'd just disappeared. I got the call at half 8 and went straight out but again nothing. She did say however that he looked very timid scared and distressed, which is the opposite to how he was described in diggle in the first couple of weeks. He's obviously very scared and wants to come home now as it's been 5 weeks today, I'm hoping he hands himself in but the problem is it's just not in his nature to let a stranger get any where near him. Thanks for everyone's help still, hoping little man is home very soon,

That's true fairy tails but I'm not entirely sure about that last diggle sighting...... It seems a bit odd when you think all the sightings around it have been in mossley?
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
Seems he's liking Ward lane perhaps a few people searching around that area?
Lorna
Ah right, that makes more sense, thought he'd started a whole new ball game near the centre of Oldham!
That's the fourth sighting (on different days) within half a mile of this area, three of those have been within quarter of a mile of Egmont Street. There is a fair amount of woodland around here, very similar to the terrain that he has possibly been hiding in in Diggle where there has also been a number of sightings, mainly when he first went missing.

Just to re-cap, these are the possible sightings of Hugo:

Went missing 22nd September nr Farrah's Arms Grasscroft

23rd - seen at turning circle near Diggle

27th - Diggle (not sure where though)

28th - two separate sightings - Diggle, Ward Lane (around mid-day)

29th - Diggle - undergrowth nr Ward Lane

3rd October - Nicker Brow - Dobcross (within mile of Ward Lane)

3rd - Stockport Rd - Top Mossley (nr pet shop)

6th - three sightings Regents Drive - Mossley (morning)

7th - Mossley Rd -nr Junction Inn Pub

Either 7/8th -Bottom Mossley - Woodland nr Egmont St

10th - Diggle - on canal towpath nr Ward Lane (mid-day)

22nd - Bottom Mossley - nr Egmont Street - 7.30pm

28th - Top Mossley - crossing Stockport Rd nr Pet shop and The Spice of Life Kebab Shop - 9.30pm

Hi, we've seen your posters around Mossley and I just wanted to let you know my husband and I are keeping an eye out for Hugo - we're taking extra long and meandering walks with our lurcher in case we spot him! Thinking of you, you must be frantic with worry, got everything crossed someone manages to pick him up soon. If there's anything we can do to help just let us know xLast edited: 2013-10-23 20:32:10 by BexEgan

Courtney
Hi witchypoos
just had a look at the website and im afraid to say its not hugo..... this one is an entire male with mainly tan fur whereas hugo is neutered and mainly grey. thanks though
Witchy-poos
"Cairn type" brought into Aspen Valley kennels as a stray please check his pic here under dogs looking for homes: http://rescuecentral.webs.com/apps/photos/ Please don't rely on microchips being found, they can stop working or be missed. Hope he's home soon. xx

Shared Hugo again on FB, got everything crossed your lovely little boy is home soon x
Courtney
just tried Key103 and apparently theyre not allowed to announce lost animals etc.... don't know why but I will keep trying
Courtney
Just spoken to someone at Oldham community Radio and asked them to ask their listeners to keep an eye out for him... going to see if I can get hold of anyone at Key103 because I know that's quite popular
Amanda
Lorna that's fab well done well defo listen in i too contacted tameside radio lol also tried magic radio as well hes gotta come out come on hugo where are you
Lorna
While out this morning, met a very nice Tameside Radio (103.6 FM) presenter - Ian Leonard. Said he'll mention Hugo tonight between 9 and 11 on his show.
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
yeah empty your drawers :) I'm sure once he gets back to somewhere familiar he'll be able to do it! get that trail left!
Kelly
He didn't have lead on but don't know about collar because people haven't been close enough to see. I'm scenting later just on the canal section by my house and leaving a worn pair of socks in a box. I really think he's trying to get home so I hope this helps him know which bit of the canal to get off at. He needs to be back home now
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
Kelly you have it all covered now ! he just needs to show himself and come out of hiding enough for someone to grab him fingers crossed for you!Does he still have a collar/lead attached?
Courtney
Kelly have you spoken to Mary at Saddleworth Monthly... im sure she would put and advert in for you? if you want to come down to club tonight im sure there would be no objection to you handing out some business cards!
Kelly
Hi, I've put an advertisement in the paper this week, 1 week in the men, 1 day in the metro and 18 weekly newspapers across greater manchester. I've just had a phone call about another sighting of him either Monday/Tuesday last week in the woods behind the park on egmont street Mossley. Obviously there was the possible sighting in diggle on Thursday too so I'm not sure what area he's staying in if any? If he is using the canal I've tried scenting down there to get him home. I will def put posters on the bins too. I've also had some business cards made with all his and my details on for people to keep & I'm also posting them through doors asking people to check sheds and out buildings.
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
Brilliant! we assume everyone has internet but obviously they dont! even speak to the bin men if you see them :)Fingers crossed!x
Courtney
Aww sorry... Would've got back to you if I'd known.... Will let Kelly and Bev know about the posters on bins and will investigate the newspapers tomorrow
Going to have a look at the chron, the Oldham advertiser (the free one in tesco) and saddleworth monthly
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
was waiting to come help today but nobody got back to us :( how about a radio station? do Grasscroft Saddleworth Diggle etc have their own Radio Station! sorry you didn't find him today but someone could have taken him in perhaps someone older and not have access to the internet? Think its a good move contacting the papers and get your posters on your bins....hope you get word soonxx
Courtney
Me and Amanda have been out all round diggle today with no luck....will look into asking the chron and saddleworth monthly if they will run a short article on Hugo
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
Just read a great idea from another missing dog post! add Hugo's missing poster to your wheelie Bins those bin men do get around the area!
Courtney
Hi guys I've just had a look at the link and its definitely not Hugo.... He's more grey than tan... Will hopefully be out on Sunday! X with this many people he's got to be found soon!!
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
Have you spoken to someone at the Oldham Chronicle? perhaps they will do a small item on Hugo and your search for him? I'd ask it wont hurt ......all those free papers go to every house!
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
says the dog on Pet Register was found on 2/10 I think Hugo has been spotted recently?
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
I agree he does look more grey on the bottom photo
Unknown
I was just checking that dog too on Pet Register. B ut says Hugo is tan, and grey, though you cant always tell with photos can you?
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
Me too I'm sure someone will check him out anyway :) just been checking all found/sale dog sites!

Yeah it's a shame Lorna... Spoke to the mum of the lady who you spoke to and she said she is keeping her eyes open... Lots of dog walkers on Regents drive who have said they will keep their eyes open.... Will get some more posters printed tomorrow
Kelly
I've been told it was a Labrador that was found in mossley, but ill wait for some kind of reply off this person to those who have messaged her just in case.

Bumped due to sightings in different area.

New photo of Hugo uploaded into the second box, you may have to clear your internet history to see it.
Lorna
Thanks so much for following that up Courtney. How frustrating no-one grabbed him!
I've put 5 posters up within half a mile of that area this afternoon and will do some more tomorrow along the canal/bridle-path routes that are popular with dog walkers.

Hi Kelly. I've just received some information of a possible sighting of Hugo. This Saturday the 05/10 around 16.30/17.00 near the Junction Inn Pub on Mossley road. He was heading to Hurstcross way. Apparently there are fields there and a little housing estate. Good luck, Hope this info helps. Karmen xx
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
I really hope he is found soon. I used to live near to that area, so I know what a vast space you are searching. Good luck
Lorna
Glad you've sorted that out.
Thanks for your thanks, by the way. Just like everyone else looking for and following your little man, I just want to see him safely home.
Put some more posters up in Lydgate this morning and have varied my walks to cover as much area as possible since Hugo went missing, including into Mossley and up on the moors. Everything remains crossed for you both x
Kelly
Hi Lorna, Thank you for that, I've managed to get the area manager out from Network Rail who is driving through the tunnels right now to check for me. I just wanted this done through piece of mind because he could have quite easily have got lost down there with all the inter linking sections. I postered Marsden because of how close it is to Diggle, Kathryn could you please send out alerts to HD7 as suggested? Due to this incident in Mosely I'm confused as to where he is now? Unless he's covering some ground each day??
Lorna
Hi Kelly, trying to find out the info re the tunnels. You can see them from the bridge on Station Road just as you come towards the Diggle Hotel. They have been disused for many years now, I doubt they've live lines. Standedge Visitor Centre may be able to help, but they're linked to the canal, which runs parallel. Have phoned them, but answer machine only. Have contacted friends in Diggle who may know; will let you know if I hear anything. I'm waiting on a call from Oldham highways too - they are responsible for some of the area around there, but need to check further if that includes the tunnel entrances.
If you're postering Marsden, its probably worth sending out alerts to HD7 - the moorland goes across from Diggle to Marsden and there are mountain bikers, walkers and runners that come all the way across from either side and may be able to help. Last edited: 2013-10-07 13:33:52 by Lorna
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Kelly are there live train tracks still running through them? If so then it will have to be a Network Rail official. I'd give them a ring and see if it is possible. There may be maintenance people nearby who could check for you?

Have bumped Hugo's page due to possible sighting in Mossley. Please can email alerts go out to SK15 area. Carrbrook is right next to Mossley an there are quite a few helpers in the area.
Kelly
Does anyone know how the disused tunnels ( I think called the central and south tunnels) that are in Diggle can be accessed? Would Network Rail allow me to walk through or would it be someone else? Although I've not come across these whilst out looking I've seen a pictue on the internet and the gate blocking the entrance would be very easy for Hugo to get through. Trying to think of every possibility at the minute.
Kelly
Hi Fairy Tails thank you so much for that, if he has gone futher a field from the farm area in diggle then you never know. Can I also say thank you to Lorna on here who has been so amazingly helpful looking for hugo and postering. When Little Man is found he will be personally thanking all the great people that have supported this search. Whilst postering in Marsden yesterday a lady mentioned that she had seen a terrier type dog running about the road in top moseley, think it's stockport road near the pet shop. This was on Thursday 3rd October. Although the description was not great she described him as a terrier with markings small like a cat. This could have very well been hugo. He was running in and out of the road she said he looked very confused and scared and cars were driving around him. Unfortunately no one stopped to try and grab him and also even though my posters are still up I didn't get any call. The dog was then seen running down Stockport Road back towards the Greenfield area. Due to this could people still be keeping an eye out in other areas as well as Diggle. Thank You
Fairy Tails Dog Grooming
Long shot I know but my Brother In Law and son are both members of Oldham Mountain rescue Team and I know a few of the members live around Grasscroft/Diggle/Upermill/Denshaw/Dobcross area so an email as gone out to them all to keep an eye out for Hugo....fingers crossed you find him x
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Thanks Kelly, Courtney let me know at training tonight that it wasn't quite right. You are all doing an amazing job, keep going. The weather has been quite bad the last few days, very windy and if he is still wandering he may well be hiding away.
Kelly
Hi Kathryn re the below the poss sighting wasn't in denshaw it was in dobcross at the top of nickerbrow. The lady was a bit far away to be sure it was Hugo but it's not too far away from diggle. I've put more posters up there. We've also put the link to this on the diggle community website. Trying to draw him out by putting food out for him but there's not one particular area we've narrowed him down to.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Possible sighting today in Denshaw?? Have bumped Hugo's page.

Kelly, good luck at the dogs home tomorrow.
Kelly
Squirrel and smelliesmum thank you so much for being out actively looking for Hugo (and everyone else that has) It really is appreciated. Mosspage thank you for the found dog info I've enquired about these and although I don't think they're Hugo I'm still going to manchester dogs home tomorrow just to make sure. Fingers crossed

I am sure he will turn up safe, keep positive and we are all thinking of you and Hugo. Xx

Hi, no news possibly another sighting near the tunnel near ward lane on Sunday but nothing else. I got a phone call yesterday from a chap that hadn't seen the posters who had seen a dog just like Hugo walking near the navigation pub and turning circle last Monday (23rd sept) the day after he went missing so looks like he's been in the diggle area all this time. The dogs on the warden site below aren't him but thank you again for people looking. Ill be out day and night until I find him

Kelly
Hi, mosspage&scoobster thanks so much I've checked Leigh dogs&cats and its not Hugo. ClaireBearG that cross Yorkshire terrier actually got found on my old road in stockport.. I'd put posters up there just in case Hugo tried to make his way back there so the young girl that found it called me. Unfortunately it wasn't Hugo and I sent my friends there to pick it up to make sure it gets to its owner. Night/early morning search in diggle later and hopefully my little man will raise his head again

Definite 2 sightings in diggle today, the bottom of ward lane at 11am on the road near the canal being coaxed out of the road to safety by a male. Also 12.40pm further up ward lane trotting along the road away from the village towards the hills. I'm in area and will remain so please can everyone in area keep their eyes peeled and fingers crossed. Thanks so much
smelliesmum
Good luck I'm in work 12 hrs tomorrow but will ask my hubby to look when he's out, I'll look Sunday
Kelly
Hi, no luck unfortunately, I walked from diggle to uppermill. I've not actually spoken to the lady who saw the dog running down the road so I'm not sure how reliable the sighting is. I'm going to go for another walk in the area late at night when it's dark. He wouldn't come to you of his own accord but he would if he was tempted by food ( which is also worrying ). Thank you for looking in the area. A lady said she also saw a man walking a similar looking dog in the Mosley area ( near the hardware store) at 5pm Friday so I've also been down there today.
smelliesmum
Hi, how have you got on today? I live in Diggle walked my own dogs here today, no sighting, would your dog come near if I had dogs or hide?
Kelly
Possible sighting in diggle?? If anyone's I'm that area please look I'm making my way
Kelly
Hi, lady owl unfortunately that wasn't Hugo, but thanks! The fact there have been no sightings of him I'm getting more convinced someone has him. I was out all night putting posters up again and I'm putting more flyers through doors today. I've bought a printer so I can run them off everyday. If people are able to put any up in areas they don't see any that'd be fantastic. Everyone on here has been great and information & tips really helpful. Thank you, Kelly

Hi kelly, there's another one at leigh cats and dogs home found St helen's No 02340.

Don't rule out one's that say there aren't microchipped as chips can move and sometimes not register when scanned .

good luck finding Hugo xx
Kelly
Hi Kathryn, thank you for putting on the other picture. I've checked with Leigh dogs home and it wasn't Hugo because he wasn't microchipped. Looked similar to Hugo, he was a cairn and a lot of people say Hugo looks like one! I've been searching and putting posters up all week. I went back to the lady who spoke to the man who chased Hugo down the back of the houses but again she couldn't give me any more description wise as to who this man is and was quite abrupt with me unfortunately. I still find it strange this man hasn't come forward?? Anyway the search the goes on until my little boy is home. Thank you, Kelly

Hi everyone unfortunately the poster image I've put up from this sight has come out quite dark and I think people will struggle to recognise Hugo. He is a particularly unique looking dog with him being a cross. I'm getting better posters made up tonight and will put them up everywhere so people will know more what he looks like. Due to the extensive search my feeling is he's possibly been taken and eventually hopefully somebody will spot him with someone. Please keep looking everyone I'm heartbroken and need him back. Thanks again. Thanks Lorna too for your last update I've posted flyers on that road but ill post the better ones too, I've had a look down the united utilities water end and the chap in the office is also keeping an eye out
Lorna
Hi Kelly, at that time of night, I'd imagine someone in that area would be local. Is it worth putting flyers through doors along that road? Also, and sorry if you've already tried this, have you been on to United Utilities land by the rugby ground - there's a lot of woodland and undergrowth where a dog could hide and he wasn't far from there last time he was seen.
I know there are a lot of people keeping their eyes open for him. I really hope he turns up safely soonLast edited: 2013-09-25 09:28:55 by Lorna
Kelly
Hi, just regarding the last sighting apparently a man with a small dog under his arm (no description of man or dog) asked the lady who lives at the back of number 60 shaw hall bank road if she'd lost a dog because he'd seen one running behind the houses. When she replied no the man continued to walk round the back of the houses where he said he'd seen Hugo go, I believe Hugo ran here due to the man pursuing him (albeit his intentions well) does anyone know who this man is? Or heard anything about who he could be? I'm going to try and push the lady for more info description wise however a concern is due to searching this area at different times of night&day Hugo has not been found. Due to there being no more sightings I'm worrying this man may have found&taken him. If someone knows who he was at least I can rule that out? Any thoughts? Thanks again for everyone's help, I've been out all night again with no luck
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Spoke to Kelly today and she is doing a great job, all the right people have been notified, posters are up in the area and they have also been to Manchester Dogs Home.

Hugo is very timid and I wouldn't be surprised if he is still hiding in the area or his lead may have become snagged on something? I have advised Kelly how to behave if she sees him and also think it would be worth checking out the area after dark. Keep going Kelly, he is somewhere :)
Kelly
Sorry everyone I meant to say 10pm Sunday night!
Kelly
Thank you everyone so much for your help. Hugo is still missing and I'm out putting posters up today just to let you know he was last seen on shaw hall bank road running behind the houses but this was at 10pm Monday when he first went missing. Please keep looking I'm still hoping he's ok. Thank you

I met the owner this morning. I hope she doesn't mind me sharing the following. Hugo went missing after being frightened near the Farrars Arms in Grasscroft late Sunday night. He was wearing a harness and lead at the time and is a very small, timid dog.Last edited: 2013-09-24 15:17:10 by Lorna

  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
