Caz
has he moved in permanently yet?
mathers22
Have I seen this dog as being caught somewhere on facebook today or is this one still here xx
ClaireC
Must be coming up to the time that this boy moves in permanently! How is he he doing now?
Sammie
Only just catching up on this boy as I've been on holiday, what wonderful news and well done to Thorpers4 and the farmer as I know you wanted to gain this dogs trust and not try and trap him. Well done and I hope he stays on the farm.
duffs54
Great story, they say a dog chooses it's owner,I really hope like others have said that he stays with the farmers family, they sound ideal for him. Having owned a saluki cross they are very laid back tactile dogs, so he has chosen well. xxx
Tan
Aww what a happy outcome so far....
ClaireC
Caz have to say I hope he continues to live at the Farm where he seems most comfortable now. Clever dog for knowing where he will best be loved xx
Algernon TrustLisaP
That's wonderful, well done :)
Caz
Both you & the Farmer have done brilliant job gaining his trust & showing him love & affection, it's fantastic news & sounds like this boy has a great life ahead of him, As I said before surely IF he was a loved family pet the owners would have been postering/appealing everywhere in searching for him long before now!!. I hope if anyone tries to claim ownership now they will have to provide undisputable evidence before he is handed over.(If I'm honest I hope no one comes forward & he remains the "Farm Saluki" as he has chosen to do already) please keep us updated on his progress.
Thorpers4
When I arrived tonight he already had a collar on and was walking back across the fields with the farmer and his granddaughter, he came straight up to me for a cuddle and I have now had a really good look at him - he is NOT castrated and is not chipped! seems to be much younger than first thought and is only about 12 months old, he has very clean teeth and a lovely perfect bite. We have wormed and de-flead him, and he will now be kept inside at night but allowed his freedom during the day. Tomorrow I'll advise the SNDC Dog warden even though I have already spoken to Cherwell (and they never called back) and the dog will remain at the farm for 28 days after which time if no-one has claimed him the farmer has said he'll keep him, get him castrated and chipped and he can live his days as a farm saluki where he already belongs. I am so pleased we took our time to gain his trust as he really is a fabulous boy :-)
dekkaann
What a great farmer to go along with the capture of this lad, not forgetting the hard work of Thorper.
Have been looking through the lost saluki crosses as he could have a touch of Grey in him.
Caz
Thank you Thorpers for all you are doing for this boy, it's good to know he won't end up in the pound, really hoping all goes to plan today & you can get him scanned, eagerly looking forward to next update :-)
Thorpers4
Thanks everyone, I've had a text this morning from the farmers wife to say he's been sitting in their kitchen having cuddles, so it's even better than expected, I'll see if he has a chip tonight and get a collar on him.
Tan
Aww it's lovely to follow this story and see how he is gaining your trust. I am always amazed at how much time and effort people put in to secure a happy outcome for the dogs. Hope it all goes well today.
mathers22
He seems very happy and content living at the farm. Good luck xx
Algernon TrustLisaP
This is lovely to hear, it is wonderful for him that he will be able to stay on the farm until he is sorted, he is clearly happy there & sounds a lot less worried than when we first heard about him :)
Thorpers4
today he has been following the farmer around the farm, even out across the fields to tend his cows. We took our 5 month old puppy with us and they had a great time playing so tomorrow we are going to catch and check for a chip. he has been going into their utility room so we will feed him in there and shut the door!! wish us luck, he doesn't have any malice about him so we'll see how it goes :-)
Thorpers4
I can't see any reason for him to go into a rehoming centre, Luckily the farmer is happy for him to remain at the farm until either his owner or a suitable new family can be found for him. It will remain to be seen what sort of family he would potentially be looking for after he has been caught and introduced indoors, to children and other dogs, animals etc. I need to concentrate on getting him first! :-)
Caz
Not "chasing up on DW" sounds good to me, After all the hard work you are putting in gaining this dog's trust. Can't believe no one is searching frantically for this boy! If he doesn't have a chip he won't go to the pound will he????
Algernon TrustLisaP
Thats fantastic! Thanks for the update :)
Thorpers4
UPDATE - Last night we managed to touch his ears! so he is getting more and more confident everyday. I contacted the Cherwell DW on Sunday but as yet I still haven't had a call back! although I understand by law I have to notify them I won't be chasing this up until he's been checked for a chip etc - does that sound fair?. I had a good conversation yesterday with Saluki Welfare and will update once I have a collar on him and have checked for a microchip.
Algernon TrustLisaP
This is great news, good luck :) I have also let Shereen know that all is under control now as I spoke to her when the farmer contacted us for helpLast edited: 2013-05-13 17:41:36 by LisaP

Looks like he has found himself some very caring people fingers crossed for a happy outcome, he is gorgeous xx
Sammie
Have update page for "sighted only" "neutered" & "post code" as per Thorpers4 post.
Thorpers4 has it fully undercontrol and as mentioned the dog is not in an immediate danger and they are doing everything correctly to gain the dogs trust, so good luck.
Thorpers4
UPDATE - He is near to Helmdon NN13. I've been back to see him today and managed to get him eating from my hand and am confident we will catch him soon. I do not want to use a trap just yet because I can't see any benefit from trapping an already scared young dog - he isn't in any danger as not near any roads and has found shelter and regular food. On closer inspection he has been castrated, has no obvious white markings and has speckled front paws. I will contact all local vets tomorrow to see if any of them recognise his description. He has at some point had a collar on as I can see the fur is different where it once was. I have a microchip reader which I'll use when I can get close enough and the farmer is happy to keep him safe there until his owners come forward and claim him.
Sammie
Confirmation back it is not dog 42557, but thanks for suggesting.

Algernon TrustLisaP

hollieeb
long shot but could possibly be this guy? http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=42557#.UY60IrU3u8A
Sammie
Thorpers4 - can you verify location? I can't match location with postcode listed? Is it on the boarder of OX17 as that comes up as Banbury?
LisaK I presume you have been in contact with Shereen by phone today? I know she is a bit tied up this weekend.
Algernon TrustLisaP
http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=46284#.UY6aArXCZ8E - I wonder about this guy, he has a scar on his back leg
Algernon TrustLisaP
We have been in touch to offer help with trap & camera and have had advice from ShereenLast edited: 2013-05-11 19:36:13 by LisaP

I'm sure he will gain your trust but it could take a while. Good to know that he is being fed daily and of course this will help enormously towards him gaining trust. Thank you.xx
Thorpers4
This dog is currently living rough on a neighbours farm, he's too timid to get very close to as yet but is safe off the road being fed daily, pretty sure he is castrated and at one time wore a collar. not at all malicious just very wary.
