The dog found in DY12 definitely wasn't Nip. It was me who took her to the vet to be scanned. She was found on the roadside by 2 ladies out jogging. I saw them as I drove past and thought it was their dog. I stopped, thinking they may need a lift to the vet. I couldn't leave her there, so took her to the vet and they kept her there. She had a tan head with white round the muzzle and up the between the eyes. Chris Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone. Checked both dogs. The most recent (found on 25th) had docked tail, but Nip has full tail so it cant be her. The other one did sound like Nip but rang the number and it wasn't her. Thanks though everyone for pointing things out and for carrying on helping us look for Nip. We really appreciate it. Lianne XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I know, its funny I never noticed dogs tied up before- but not when I see it it makes me want to tell the owner. Sounds sad, but there was a little yorkie tied up outside the shop the other day and I waited with it outside ( putting on the pretence that I was stroking it etc)until the owner came out. I mentioned Nip and what happened and the owner said "yes but its so rare, dogs being stolen"....No idea at all. In the Sentinel this week, someone broke into someones house, stolen items - and stole their puppy.....Its horrible. X L X Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lianne, I have left my dogs in locked cars, secure gardens and even outside shops in the days when I only had one dog! Until I stumbled on this site by chance I didn't realise the extent to which dog theft happened. I have been very LUCKY never to have been in your position. We know that you didn't realise what would happen. Now, whenever the opportunity presents itself I point out the danger to people (mentioning this site if they want to see for themselves) - if this saves just one person going through what you are then it is worth being thought of as a complete nutcase! Still thinking of Nip and you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As insensitive as is was, the letter in the Sentinel gave you some follow up coverage. You may not be happy with what he said, but Nip got a follow-up. (I know you all think I'll spin anything, but regard this as positive.)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I must admit that I'm guilty of leaving my dog outside a shop before but would never do it again, although I have been fortunate enough to still have her. Also, I get laughed at when I tell people not to tie their dogs outside shops, if only they knew. Jo xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How insensitive of that man. I don't expect there's one person on this site that hasn't tied their dog up outside a shop at one time or another - I can't believe they have written a letter - why not do something more proactive and help with the search??? Don't take any notice Lianne. You are doing everything you can to get her back and more. We all know how much you love her there is absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. That has made me sooooooo angry!!!! I'd dearly love to hear that you're back safe and well Nip as soon as possible Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ignore him! None of us on the site would have left our dogs in cars or gardens if we had known this happens-that is why we are trying to get the message across in the media.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A man wrote to the Sentinel about how silly we were to leave our dog tied up outside a shop. At first i was really cross- as its not as if I did it through any lack of love- I did it through lack of knowledge. I had no idea dogs could so easily get stolen and taken away from you just like that. How naive am I? If this situation has taught me anything its to never, ever leave another dog outside a shop again, X L XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update---Well. After just getting over this dog not being our little Nip, I got a phonecall today from a man called Jim, an ex counceller from Stoke. He lives close to where these women live. He said " I know where your dog is, and I know who took her". For a moment I thought it WAS the person who took her and I felt myself getting all irate. He said that these women have two jack russells. Two! Now obviously this is just his words--but then it started to add up. Why some people were saying " Yep its def your dog" and some "No its def not". Like, they were 100% certain, and some were 100% saying it wasnt ours. The policeman who went to visit the women( I am so angry with him. He said I couldnt go with him to see the women as it would "complicate things) said this Jack russell he saw had a mostly white head. BUT when myself and my partner went round to talk the womens neighbours tonight they said "brown and black head"...Sinister eh?? The counceller man is very annoyed and has got a reporter coming tommorow from Sentinel so Nip will be in paper AGAIN! How lucky am I ? Not sure what its about but from what I gather its to do with Nip and how the police have not done their job properly again---surely they shouldve KNOWN they have 2 jack russells??? Well we got to the area these two ladies (sisters apparantly) lived. We had only asked one person and they knew who they were straight away. She called them "Sisters Grim". A lot of people said they HAVE seen them with a new dog. A few people saw NIPS pic and said "yes that could be her" and a few others said "No this dog had long hair Im sure it did " and " No this dog had more white on it". So our hopes aren't quite as high as before- but we are still checking it out obviously because you never know! The women weren't in but I shouted NIP through the letterbox and I went round the back and round the back gate undone- so I went into the garden, naughty me. But nothing. We asked about 4 people in the street ( theres only about 10 houses) to keep their eyes peeled and give us a call as soon as they got back. So waiting for calls now. WIll keep you all updated. Thanks a lot. Lianne xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Possibly good news. I put up a few posters inside and outside the DSS office yesterday. I just had a call from a lady that works there. Apparantly 5 seperate people all said they have seen her---and all said they saw her with two women--one who apparantly walks around with a shopping trolley? They all said she had her red collar and lead on. Craig , my partner is going tonight to Etruria, where these women apparantly live. Hes going to ask at some houses and see if anyone knows where "the ladies who go round with a shopping trolley are?". It shouldnt be hard to miss them!! And will be in Sentinel again tommorow. Another pic of Nip and a pic of me :) Its about the pathetic use of the CCTV cameras where Nip was stolen from. Council say theres nothing on the footage, not a trace. On 6 seperate cameras in the vicinity- not a trace? Sorry but that is Bull****. So I used my correspondence with the MP by mentioning his involvement to get the Sentinel interested. Begged the reporter to mention DogLost too so fingers crossed. HI there, Stoke on Trent have a web page for dogs that were found in the area. The link is: http://www2002.stoke.gov.uk/scott/dog_warden_results_pages/dogs_found_details.asp They update it often. Also there is a place called City dogs home in Bucknall and Animal lifeline in Cellerhead - you may have already tried this but i thought i would mention it to you. I am sure you will find her - have you thought of putting an advert in the sentinel. Would you like me to put up some posters for you as i live in bucknall area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It really comes across how much you love her. You are doing everything and more - just keep going and I'm sure you will be rewarded soon. She looks lovely! Now you have so many people looking I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Praying for her safe return. Rxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hope there is good news about Nip soon, I know the appeal of our own homes as one gets older - I'm sure she too just wants to get home to her old routine.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lianne, please do NOT give up hope. Jack are dogs that do NOT look the same as each other and I feel that's a bonus (they have different markings, build etc) so someone WILL recognise Nip and, fingers crossed (and everything I can possibly think of) will get in touch. At least you've had quite a big impression with the local paper and people WILL be looking out. I really, really, really hope that Nip will be home with you soon. I've put her poster up in the staffroom at work (local college in Fenton) so people are out there looking for her. In the meantime, please stay positive, I can't even believe how hard it must be for you but I'm sure you'll hear something soon. Jxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Ollies Mum. Have spent last 3 days hounding local paper, radio as well as Nation paper ( just in case!) but to no avail. Nip has been mentioned on Stoke Radio. The local paper said they may want to do story on this as dogs being stolen getting more common, But I have heard nothing back from this- even though I have emailed them about 6 times. They dont realise that speed is the key in situations like this. Not only do I long for my dog back but I don't want other people getting their dogs stolen either. They need to know that Hanley town centre isn't a good place to leave your dog tied up. Sorry Im ranting. Stressful day. Lianne XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Get an e-mail address for your local paper - then just bombard then with e-mails and copies of the poster until you hear from them. Make them understand that Nip isn't JUST a dog, but a treasured family member. Hound them!!! Mail shot other local papers, radio, tv etc etc. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Best bet for Radio Stoke is to call Stuart George's phone-in show Mon-Fri 10-1: 01782 221212. Alternatively email individual presenters: firstname.surname@bbc.co.uk and hope to find a sypathetic dog owner. Unlikely to enthuse the news team, but it's always worth a try: radio.stoke@bbc.co.uk or sue.owen@bbc.co.uk. You could try the action desk on 01782 260972 as they are supposed to deal with lost dogs, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Stress that dog theft is one of the fastest rising crimes and that people can see Nip on Doglost. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks to Ollies Mum and Julie for your help and advice. Much appreciated it really is. Went to police station today and really had to hammer it home to them that they weren't doing what they were supposed to be doing. After a bit of moaning a police officer took more details about the incident and is going to review the CCTV footage again tommorow AM. Apparantly if I want to footage for myself I have to apply at Stoke Council?? Thanks again guys xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If you do get on the Radio remember to say a photo is available on www.doglost.co.uk as people do not ring unless they see a photo first.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Julie Calcott:
Comehomenip, having spoken to a few people about this, a few have said to ring Radio Stoke and they will announce all the details. I've got a friend of a friend whose dog was returned safely due to an announcement on there. It's definitely worth a try. Even if she was stolen, someone out there is bound to have seen her (fingers crossed). Good luck.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner-police have checked CCTV but only where the dog was and not the other cameras! Sounds familiar-one for you Nik? Local press have already been in touch with owners as they have relised a lot of dogs are being stolen too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We feel a bit alone at the moment in trying to find her. Called all rescue shelters and dog wardern, Put posters up. Thing is we KNOW she has been stolen and not "lost"..and this really hurts us. This is not a campaign which would have appeal amongst retailers. It implies that thieves operate in the vicinity of their stores. Much better to ignore it and hope it goes away. It's the old thing of not highlighting a problem when most people don't know there is one.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree doglover. The stores could put a warning notice near the area dogs are tied up. I'm like you hang around till the owner comes back but they don't seem to understand what the problem is. It happened in Gravesend today. Hope this wee fella is home soonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Come home soon Nip, we should all start a campaign to let people know that leaving your dog tied up outside the shop just isn't safe anymore, since finding out about doglost when i see people that have left their dogs outside i wait around and let them know what could happen. Prehaps we should all start to contact our local big stores and shops, town centres and get them to start postering about this ever growing problem. We have got to help stop this happening as like poor Nips owner have found out the hard way. XXLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What a pretty girl. Was the spot monitored by a CCTV camera? Get a poster to all rescue centres/vets you can so her face is fresh in their minds. Someone who takes a dog on a whim is just as likely to tire of it on a whim too! Good luck - hope she's home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
