Whoop Whoop Sian and Roxi for getting Merlin home. Gives me hope x
Spindle
What lovely news, So pleased he is now safe. Just goes to show how quickly dogs can switch from feral to domestic and back again. Well done to not giving up on him Sian. I think he was competition with Moses who did pretty much the same before we caught him.

I have just spoken with Cery. They are travelling back to Tony's home, and Cery is in the back with Merlin who is fine. Once he was in Sian's house he went straight back to normal and was playing with Roxi. You would never think he had spent 15 months living feral. This is a great encouragement to all owners who are trying to find or catch their dogs who have lived rough for months and even years.

Just had Cery on the phone, so happy and excited. Merlin has just been caught by Sian, owner of Roxi the labradoodle who he was following when she was caught and reunited. He settled into the area just up the mountain and Sian and others have been feeding him. But he has been so elusive and so fast and cunning that no one could catch or trap him. He has been down to the village in the small hours of the morning, grabbing the food and vanishing. This morning he appeared and followed Sian and Roxi on their walk. Sian kept going and left the house door open, and he followed them into the house. His owner is on way to collect him and Cery is also on way to see him and take some pictures. Merlin is still being seen around the same area but proving hard to catch. The problem has been one of getting a big enough trap, but thanks to Cery this may have been sorted, awaiting confirmation of that.
snorky
Not sure if this is the same dog as not, but here is one that has been found that is very similar - http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=51860

Sighted at back of village on Tuesday 19 March and has been seen up on the mountain over the last few days. Owner will be searching on mountain tomorrow with his other dog.
SH
Come on Merlin, don't run away everyone just wants you home safely x
DogLostOwl
Thanks for explaining. There are ongoing attempts to catch/trap Merlin but he is very fast and wary. I am not sure that he will approach your dog, but if you join the Doglost Wales fb page you can discuss things with the other people involved. The bitch in season would be a more likely bet, or at least a trail could be laid with some of her urine which might be easier that walking her around and getting followed every loose dog.
sammy_kaye2614
Sorry all. I commented this when there was no picture up, the dog I thought was Merlin is here on NEATH PORT TALBOTS CBC page on facebook. Sadly it is not him. So sorry for any confusion I hope he is found/caught soon. x If there are any rescue attempts soon I have a very friendly JRT male that Im happy to bring along to see if he will approach. Sadly my bitch I have just rehomed (after she was abandoned 3 weeks ago) is in season and awaiting her op.
DogLostOwl
Merlin has been sighted at the end of the road he has been frequenting, so whichever dog has been reunited is not him.
DogLostOwl
As Merlin's foster mum Cery pointed out to me, during his 11 months on the run it is possible that someone took him in, and that this person has now claimed him. Still trying to find out what is going on.
DogLostOwl
Merlin has NOT been reunited with his owner, who has called the pound and they don't have him there and know nothing about him. sammy_kaye2614 please can you get some more info for us? We need to talk to whoever has or knows something about this dog. We may be dealing with 2 similar dogs here?Last edited: 2013-03-14 10:36:28 by Owl

Sammy kaye - do you mean merlin ? has merlin been reunited ?
sammy_kaye2614
This dog has been handed into the pound in NPT and his update is
"You will be pleased to know that this dog has now been reclaimed by its owner."

I really hope that they manage to catch him! Would be great if he turned out to be Merlin.....all fingers and paws crossed here xxx

Roxi's owners have looked at pic of merlin and said looks like Roxi's boyfriend and are now walking Roxi at night & taking treats and extra lead
so if they see him are going to try and catch him!

hi yes it would be great if merlin. some one has sent photo to my lost pet page of the stray in street in port talbot its on pets forever lost found reunited paws crossed its merlin from tinks jackie x
SH
This would be truely amazing if it is merlin. keeping everything crossed that it is him, he can be caught and back in a loving forever home. But if it proves not to be him then hopefully he / she will find a home anyway x
RCPersse
Owl, have just text. Will get in touch as soon as I can get a contact number for one of the "team".

Owl..if its the same dog (roxi's boyfriend) may be worth asking her owners to set up a feeding station as they have seen him previously in their garden as I am sure they would love to get this poor boy off the streets & back home?Last edited: 2013-02-25 14:03:50 by 4paws

That's an interesting thought, 4paws.
DogLostOwl
RCPersse, please would you get in touch with me on 07772 432366 as I need to be in touch with one of the people involved in trying to catch the Port Talbot dog. Please could you text me a contact number?
4paws
could this dog also have been the'boyfriend'who came home with Roxi the labradoodle dog lost & found in SA12..the 'boyfriend was a tan lurcher type dog who followed the in season Roxi! owners of roxi had seen this dog in their garden previously and think it lives up on the mountain in the day and comes down in the dark.
DogLostOwl
Cery, Merlin's former foster mum, has just phoned me. She says the photo of the dog living rough is very, very similar to Merlin. We need to have the details of whoever took the photo and is trying to help this dog. It would also help if we had more photos. The problem is that Merlin was one of an accidental litter of no less than 16 identical males! Cery fostered and rehomed 3 of these in addition to Merlin and knows where they are, but that leaves 12 who were homed within the S Wales area. If the dog living rough isn't Merlin it may well be a litter brother.
RCPersse
Looks very much like the guy in Port Talbot......lets hope their tails are a match too!! The stray was seen again last night from a distance. People are going back to the area this evening with a trap.
DogLostOwl
Looking at the map, the area this dog is frequenting is less than 30 miles from the area Merlin was last seen. If Merlin has been fending for himself up in the forestry, as I believe he has, he could easily have moved on this far.

No, a collie x greyhound is a lurcher.

Just wondered if the breed should be changed to collie x as lurcher is not mentioned but greyhound is?Last edited: 2012-04-20 15:50:16

Owner has no net access so I have used my email. I have a photo of Merlin on my phone so it should be on the page as soon as one of my colleagues can do it for me. Dog wardens were informed at the time Merlin went missing, police also aware.
