Kevin, we all know you have done everything! We are just trying to think of ideas for you. Many of us have been in the same boat and truly understand your grief and the fact that losing your beloved dog really does make you ill. Trust your instincts and if you feel this could have been Millie, then you know she is now safe, albeit not in the way you, or we, would like it to have been. If sweet Millie has gone to heaven, she is now okay and believe me, dogs never leave their loved ones - not really. So she will be watching what you're up to all the time! :-) And, if she should still be on earth, then her chip will bring her home. Wherever she is, she knows you love her because dogs are telepathic (on earth and in heaven) and she is so proud of you! You really did magnificiently. You did not deserve this. But always know that Millie is is forever yours, no matter what. No one can sever a bond like that. x

i assure you i have done everything, the council will just not, repeat not work with me, i cannot talk to the workers as you say because i dont know who,or where they are, ive done everything, its time now for me to try and move on,this has made me ill.
i tried to see if the dog was millie, but they didnt take any details off the person who called in to report it.so to be honest now,its time to try and move on, i cant do anymore.
if someone has her, then all the searching in the world will be in vain.but i thankyou all for your advice.i assure you i have done everything twice/three times.Last edited: 2012-03-17 16:24:56 by kevin

Kevin, any news? You need to try and find out if the injured dog was Millie. Have you asked in the vets again, too? Also, do as Jotty said and actually speak to these workers. Ask for a description before you show the photo. If they have picked her up, sadly councils do not scan, but they should have seen her collar if still on. If she did just vanish from the road, a vet must have been contacted and they should have scanned. Unless someone just took her home to look after her. It is quite possible she has met with an accident, but it is also quite possible, someone has her. See what you find out at the council etc, and then, even if you have to stop physically searching, it doesn't mean its over as she is chipped, and we have dogs on this site that re-appear ages after, so the door is always open. If you feel that is was sweet Millie and it all seems to fit, then maybe that is the case, however, do check with the workers first. And then, if she should still be out there, her chip will bring her home. God bless you and sweet Millie. Let us know. x

I have contactd Kevin to make sure he reads your posts today. x
Jo - Area Co-ordinator, Essex
Kevin, I expect you probably have, but I wanted to ask the question anyway - have you spoken to Thurrock council's street cleansing department. I know you have phoned them and they have no log of the injured dog that was reported, but wasn't sure if that was just the dog warden 'service'. If you haven't already, see if you can get to speak to some of the people that actually go out and about....they may be able to offer some more information.

Let's hope someone does very soon, Janie. Keep safe baby. x

Sorry to see Millie is missing, surely someone will have checked her for a microchip? Or am I being naive? Paws and fingers xd for her safe return.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Kevin...dogs on roads get noticed by other dog owners and reported to the police...chances are someone has picked her up...and maybe their report to the council has been lost...they may even have reported her to a neighbouring council...so please ring around...local councils do not co ordinate with each other.
kevin
thanks for all your advice,i think im going to have to come to terms that she has come to harm, everyone i know is saying she has run onto the a13, its a massive junction, many carrage ways, very fast lorries and cars.my fear is shes been clipped and may have died in the bushes,we were only half a mile away from it when i lost her, she did not come past me at all of that im certain.
it was dark, and she wouldnt have stood a chance,a member of the public reported a injured dog the day after i reportd her missing, and the council did naff all, didnt even take the persons details.we spent hours and hours over the days after looking over there for her,but its vast.
i had 10 days off work.i have to try and get back to normal now,the police confirmed there was a sighting of an injured dog, but they were unable to locate it.
i assure you all we have done eveything we can possibly do,i had bad vibes about this from the start.

Shared on DL Essex FB page - keep going with the posters Kevin, it may seem relentless but you can never have too many posters! You could also explore the idea of have bigger posters e.g. A3 size with a hard backing, like mdf, staked in the ground near busy road junctions etc. If you do that, I would advise minimum key details, good sized photo and make sure the DogLost website is clear as people may not have the time/means to take down the number whilst in the car but could remember Doglost and subsequently find Millie online. Good luck, stay strong. xLast edited: 2012-03-13 20:53:11 by Jo - Area Co-ordinator, Essex

minime082
I have added link to a few friends on facebook that live in the area. Have you thought about doing a walk with other dog owners in the area she was last seen. I can make myself available to come over with my staffie to do a walk of the area & hand out posters.

i wonder what the longest period a dog has been lost for and then reunited with its owner??
kevin
i live close by to the camp, ive been there twice, they know theres a large reward, the last thing i want to do is point the finger, you really do have to be carefull.

hi guys, we have done all that, shes been put in the thurrock gazzette our local paper too, we have just got back from postering too, there doesnt seem many lost dogs people in our area, or if they have lost dogs,it was a while ago, but i assure you we have done so so much.
Spangles
Kevin, the following link may help you with some contact numbers, http://www.essex.police.uk/my_neighbourhood/thurrock_district/tilbury/tilbury-73.aspx
when you open the page, to the left are other neighbourhood policing teams in the area..keeping my fingers crossed, and just another idea, if you haven't already put posters up at all the local school, if possible email them, most schools email out to parents, see if they would forward your email or include it in the school newsletter. Mum's love to chat at the school gates, news of Millie will soon spread and it may only take one person to say something and you have a lead. Keep going your doing a fantasitc job.Last edited: 2012-03-02 16:58:25 by Spangles

Keep going, you are doing well. Make her "too hot to handle". See if you can get her in the local papers, the local radio, advertise her if need be. Get all the shops to display a poster - give to taxi drivers, bus drivers, give to the police, get the school kids on board. Contact the traveller liaison police officers at Tilbury Neighbourhood Police office, South West division. Tell them you have concerns. Millie is not the only dog to disappear from this area and I have already made them aware of two others. The problem is they need evidence but the more owners that call police on this, the more they may be willing to assist. PLEASE do this. Check out other missing dogs in a similar postcode on this site. Join forces with other owners and together, ask the police to assist. Go there - all of you. Well worth a try. I also suggest if you join forces together you will have a story that the local papers might well run. They often say they can't do a story for "just one missing dog" (much to our dismay) so we have to find a way round it. Get them to do a story for a "few missing dogs!". Try contacting other owners - you can support and help each other and together you have more power. x
kevin
hi, still no word of her.
kevin
a big big thankyou to you at battersea, thats given me such hope if shes gone out of our area, thankyou x
kevin
thankyou to the basildon warden for you advice, all taken on board, many thanks buddie

Hi Kevin
Just to let you know I have now transferred Millies picture. I also forgot to give you Millie's Battersea reference number - her report ID with us is 288929. Hopefully between us and Doglost, we will see Millie home safely.
kevin
just got ofr the phone to a lovely lady at battersea dogs home, she took all the details about millie, and has seen her picture on this site, so that some great news.also i have acted on the basildon dog wardens advice and contacted the barking/newham animal welfare unit, also ive been postering again today,
Dog WardenBasildon DW
I have a poster with me and will drop some into local vets. The PDSA in Pitsea get a lot of dogs from out of the Basildon area so I shall alert them first. I shall drop a poster into Acresway Kennels. I cant stress the need for speed in alerting stray kennels that take london boroughs dogs as well, Newham and Barking is not that far up the A13. Staffies dont stay long in kennels. Microchips can be missed, I have done it myself (although we do scan the dogs several times on the first day of pick up so do eventually find them!!!), scanners dont always work.
kevin
good morning jayne, thanks so so much.we have had another very sleepless night here, still hoping that we get some word of her today.
i just leaving to go postering i intend to go to the next towns from us and put some up where lots of dog walkers go, im ringing rescue people up again today.
if anyone has any spare time please could they put a poster up where they are please,id be so gratefull.
many thanks.kev xLast edited: 2012-03-01 09:26:41 by kevin

Yes, they will. But it might be better to just put large cash reward as then you can negotiate if you get a call from some one who may have stolen her. Also, they may be curious as to how much you are offering and call just to test the waters. This is when you can negotiate and see if they really do have her first. Let us know and we can do that for you. We can alter the poster at any time. If it is a genuine reward from someone finding her, then it is between you what you give/receive.

I have shared on my face book as i live in ss17 area. Has the travellers site in Tilbury been checked. Which direction was she heading? Does she usually run off?
kevin
thanks very much will they read that as 450??
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Done...
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Will do...
kevin
can the 450 reward be added to her poster?? or is it too late to add that now??
kevin
hi jayne, yep , me and my other half have it on our facebook pages, im off out tomorrow to do postering in the surrounding towns /areas, i felt like i had done everything untill i came across your wonderfull site, our friend is a local counciller, has taken matters into her own hands and has rocketed the department who deals with stray dogs, so i guess they will take this more seriously now,
ive just rang the out of hours dog warden again who assures me that alls being done, and will contact me directly if there is any news, so i feel much better now.
i also rang the dog pound up again, and told them ill be ringing every few days to make sure all being done that can be,i just hope we get her back.

Well done Kimmybear....I said to owner you could sort it out...Asking me for technical help is useless...unless Kevin you did it on your own...if so well done...anyway your local co ordinator is now on the case...watch this space...
kevin
hi,
ive managed to log in at last, thankyou for your advice,i have done lots of things so far
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Owner, hopefully you can see this even if you can't log in to post. Authorities tend not take details of sighted dogs, however, the dog warden should. Try postering around where that possible sighting was. Remember that councils and highways agencies that collect dogs from roads do NOT scan, so you have to keep calling them. It is possible that someone has taken Millie in so if they see a poster they will know who to call. You need to put 100's of posters all around where she was lost and the way you travel to and from that area, as dogs usually try and get back home if they can. She could also be living wild and hiding out somewhere if she's not sure how to get back home. Leave something that smells of you in the lost area or do a bit of scenting right there, as per e-mail. If she has had an accident and gone to the vet, she should be scanned, but you need to contact them all just to be on the safe side. If you feel she has been moved away from area, get those posters up in the next towns too and share on face book and twitter. We'll put her on ours and I'm sure the helpers will too. Let's get this baby home! x
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Have texted owners and sent e-mails with info and advice. Explained more about some points including railways, travellers, and logging in. So hope we can get this baby back home. Does anyone know which travellers site owner is talking of? Biggin Hill one is in Grays, but it is a private one. Hopefully my info will give owners some more things to try. Hopefully, too, they can log on to post.

email from owner...

hi there,
i have tried to join the site, but its not letting me use any password i use,so bear with me till i can get help with joining.
i have tried every single avenue i can use, police, council, highways agency, face book,by word of mouth, and in im honest, the authorties are useless!!!!
in reply about the travelers liason officer, ive been down to the site, and asked if they had seen her, they said they hadnt, i also put up a flier near the site stating a 450 pound reward, so i dont think they have her if im honest, but i guess nothing can be ruled out
i have really bad vibes that shes no longer in this area, just a gut feeling, also there is the busy a13 road a mile away, where i was walking her saturday she may have doubled back and gone in that direction, but i cant be sure, ive walked the a13 banks , but not seen her, a member of the public reported seeing a dog walking down the dock approch, but the council didnt take any details, how on earth can that be right??
there doesnt appear to be any sightings of her at all.im in a terrible state, she is one of 2 sisters, that were from the same litter, she has been pinning for millie, her name is mollie, bless her heart,so that making things a site worse to be honest.
untill i can reply on the site, please feel free to call me,ill call you right back.if there is anything i can do to help anyone in the same situation, please just ask me,ill do all i can.
i had never heard of this site, but i assure you that me and my girlfriend will become active members around our area, i am blown away by just how many lovely people i have come across since i lost her on saturday, ive learnt so much too, its been a total learning curve for me, i feel terrible that its all down to me for letting her off the lead, that wont ever happen again to any other pets.
once again thankyou for your advice,i will get signed up asap so i can post on the site direct. i wish everyone who has lost a pet all the very best with their search, and hope for a happy out come for them.thankyou.

Owner would like to thank those that have rung offering to put poster up but is having trouble registering...will send me an email so I can put on site for him...

Contact the Thurrock Council Traveller Liason Officer and ask them to visit the travellers camp which is behind the Thurrock Rugby Club which is behind Blackshots playing fields. The travellers do not actually travel anywhere so they will have a good, long standing relationship with council members.
I have shared Millie on my Facebook and Twitter pages.
