RIP Buster! I too found a dog (brindle staffy cross) in the SAME canal. That is how I came to find DogLost. It must be horrible for the owners but at the very least they have closure. He was obviously much loved. RIP sweetheart! xxxxx

This is really, really awful. The anguish in coping with something like this. I found a staffie who had washed up from the river with injuries, also done in the water. Hopefully Buster's injuries were caused just after he went to heaven, so he did not feel them i.e. maybe swept along and hit things. Buster and his loved ones will be together again, this time never to part, ever again. He is safe now in God's arms. Is there anyway to get this page to Buster's owners - it WILL provide some comfort to know others care. God bless you Buster and your dear family. xxx

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry you didn't make it home little boy. Your family love you and miss you - but you knew that already. Sleep tight - I hope you have some lovely dreams. My thoughts are with your family at this very sad time. xx

Late this afternoon I received a message from the Animal Wardens to say that someone had just reported a dog missing of similar description and from the same area. His owners have tonight been to Gourleys vets and identified Buster.

Buster was 11 years old and had only gone missing that day. It is thought his injuries were sustained after falling in the canal, probably by trying to get himself out of the canal. It is very sad what happened but at least the owner has closure and got to say goodbye, they were devastated and Buster was a much loved family pet.

RIP Buster, run free forever at Rainbow Bridge xxx

I SUPPOSE HE COULD HAVE COME FROM FURTHER AFIELD ESPECIALLY IF HE HAD BEEN IN THE CANAL A WHILE. ITS SO SAD AND I FEEL SO SORRY FOR HIM, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN THROUGH.

I contacted the local dog warden today, he thought he had a lost report for this one but on checking it was for a female.

Have also checked with the Animal Wardens and they haven't had any reports of a similar dog.

The member of the public who found him took him to Tameside Animal Shelter and he was scanned, he was then taken to Gourleys Vets and scanned again - no chip was found.
