  • Other Info I am adding this on behalf of Chester's owners. Chester is 14 years old, and had a strange episode of high pitched barking at 1.00am this morning. When he was let out, he ran around the garden with an unusual amount of energy, and then ran away. His owners are desperately trying to find him, but have been unable to. I have been out for 3 hours this morning checking all around the village, but there is no sign of him. He's usually slow as he is so old. I think his tail is docked and he's

Thank you all for your lovely comments! Just wanted to update. Chester's owners have given me a card and chocolates saying thank you for looking for Chester. The card also said that they have taken him to the vets, and they think he had a stroke/cardiac episode. He is doing well and back to his happy self. I'm so glad he's ok, and it was really sweet of them to bring those round to me!

Thanks everyone, I'm still really achey today, but there's no way I could have sat at home knowing he was still out there somewhere. I was so relieved to get that call last night! I'm sure their 2 daughters were overjoyed too! xx

***I AM OVERJOYED TO SAY THAT CHESTER HAS JUST RETURNED HOME!!!!!***

His owner just rang me crying her eyes out!!! She said he is covered in mud, but wagging his tail!!! She is so happy, she said she didn't think she would ever see him again! I am very happy now, but my legs and feet are killing me from searching all day! I can now go to bed happy!!! Thank you everyone! xx

Chester was wearing a collar with a tag and phone number on.

Just to add, they have printed posters out with a picture of him, and stuck them around the village.

Thank you, I've just got in from searching. I literally can't see out there now! I went round to see Chester's owners, and they are so worried. They said he just ran round the garden like mad, which was totally unlike him, as he has a bad heart, and hasn't ran for years being so old. They thought he was going to collapse from running so much. They said it was like he didn't even recognize them, and they couldn't calm him down, then he ran towards the house, and they thought he was going back indoors, but he just ran out onto the road and ran, and as the search light came on, they didn't see which way he went. They searched immediately for him, but there was no sign anywhere. We've all been looking all day all around the village and beyond, but nothing! We live in the country, and it's very quiet. His owner said it was though he was on a mission, and just ran. He's a big old boy, you would have thought someone would have sighted him!

If he has had a fit, he would be disorientated for a while afterwards and that is why he ran. Get out there scenting. I am sure one of the coordinators will have told you what to do on that score. Good luck. Hope you find him soon

Amber I am so sorry Chester is missing. I think you could be right about the seizure as one of my Great Danes used to howl and then run like mad as he was coming out of a fit. Hope you find him soon.

Thank you for your help. I have been checking ditches, ponds and the river as I was searching for him. There are so many brambles everywhere now. It's unclear whether he had some kind of seizure, as his behaviour was very odd for him before he ran off. I am still waiting for my partner to come home, and I will go out again, but my 3 year old daughter just can't do any more walking today bless her!

photo uploaded from admin - ready for alerts to go out please

Please check all deep ditches in case he has fallen in and cannot get himself back out again - dogs do not always bark when trapped
*Amber*
Thanks, still no sign of Chester, poor old boy. Post code where he went missing is 1P23

I have sent admin a photo.
