Hi, I live in Cheshunt and saw that your story was on the front page of the local paper when this happened, I too have a dod and was wondering if any one has a picture of these dogs as I walk my dog every day around Cheshunt and see dogs all the time.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Two Border Terrier bitches picked up on Thursday 24th March 2005 at Illminster in Somerset. Unusually, no-one has come forward to claim them. Could they be stolen bitches from other parts of the country that had been released? They may even have been held for sometime. They are approximately 2 & 4 years old, but rather difficult to tell as they don't like their teeth being looked at!! They are not microchipped or have any other identification on them They are currently at kennels in Crewkerne. If anyone thinks they know something about them or would like to check if they might be their lost or stolen pet, please contact the Dog Warden on: 07971 118111 or the Kennels on: 01460 75526. Or Diane Swales on: 01458 251614. Lets hope these bitches find their rightful owner/sLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just read the bit about the gypsy liason officer the reason they are there is that the gypsies trust them, so i presume he did something to lost this trust. Who looks after the site now? Do they have a new liason officer or have the council given up on it. It is very sad that they gypsies wouldn't take the money! Also did the owners see the dogs on this site? I wish you all the luck in getting your dogs back!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Any more news? (the theives surely are crazy to refuse ?1000 as BT's are not THAT expensive. I can't see they would get any more from some one not the owner. And that is tragically all the owner can afford. Such a sad sotory and shocking that a police force can be so powerless in our own country - maybe we should call in the army!!!! Surely a national paper would love this story?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You can email Essex Police on their site http://www.essex.police.uk A number of their officers have been injured going on to this site during a previous raid, so please bear this in mind when mailing them and be civil - but we need to make it clear that unless something is done now the extortion will just increase. Update: Owners have been to the site and offered ?1,000 reward but they have refused the amount and owners cannot afford the rest. Police will not go on site as This is the site where the Gypsy liason officer was shot and killed a few years back!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Geez! Speak to the Chief inspector at your regional headquarters! If they have traced the calls and know where it is , they must act!! Civilians who answer phones for the police often 'forget' that dogs are property and dont think they deal with such trivial matters as theft.....!! Perhaps ask your local Dog warden for help in this matter (if you are lucky enough to have one!). Try your MP too! If the Police have no resources to deal with crime- they need to be aware of it!!!! Good luck! keep us posted!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I cannot believe that the police will not act!!! This is what happened with our last dog, but i have to say with Jake you need to keep calling them, and they have to listen, resources or no resources, isn't blackmailing a crime!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

what happened to the old crime of demanding money with menaces? isn' this still a crime? Keep calling the police - tell them that sorting the problem will free up their phone lines!!! And demand a crime number!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just been updated by Lurcher search that owner has been contacted and asked for ?5,000 pounds or the dogs will be dead in 24 hours! Police have traced call to local site but do not have "time or resources" to act!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Naomi! The details of these dogs were forwarded to us via Lurcher search-so we have not had direct contact with the owners-hence no photo. Lurcher search do not give out personal phone numbers as all calls go through themselves on 01422 240168. They have a different way of operating, but the main thing is we are in contact and co-operating. But I have to agree a photo is priceless!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
