Thank you Millys Mum. I hope we get a very happy ending soon, just like Koko had after 6 adventurous weeks! No sightings as of yet this week, i'm sure she is out there chasing rabbits somewhere with not a care in the world for us who are walking the soles of our shoes off trying to find her, cheeky madam :) Come on little miss Jess, you should be home by now xxx Jess is appearing in the Country Mans Weekly MagazineLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rileysmum - you are a complete and utter star for doing this for Jess and her worried owners. I bet you must have also given the couple walking their dog in the woods a fright but good to have them on board and keeping an eye out for Jess. Naughty Jess, causing so much worry but, then again, you've only got to read Koko's story to see how a skinny, short-coated, nervous dog could have survived (quite successfully too, by all accounts!) 'in the wild' for 6 weeks. Hoping for another positive sighting of Jess!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

22.55pm I have just got home from a night search. I have searched St Ann's cemetery, St Anns Road, Blundells Lane & Blundells Lane golf course (as far as i could see with night vision) Whiston Woods, Dragon lane, Scotchbarn lane, Two Butt lane. Not a sign of Jess. It's very cold tonight, quite frosty too so i'm hoping she is tucked upa way somewhere staying warm and dry. I bumped into a couple walking their dog at Whiston woods (gave me a fright as i was in the trees with the night vision when they appeared!) they have seen the posters but sadly not seen Jess. They walk those woods every night and so they said they will keep on looking.  The sighting that was reported to me from warrington road, i have since found it was between the Rocket and the Holt pubs. Have checked all along this road tonight and side roads. Tomorrow is another day, hopefully bringing more sightings, come on Jess it's too cold for you to be out there, come home and get a warm xxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

13.15pm I have had a call this morning with claims of a possible sighting of Jess last Saturday 13/2/10 on Warrington Road, heading towards Whiston. The dog was apparently alone and it was quite late at night. The lady  said that she thought it odd the dog out alone so late but she didn't see any posters until after she had seen the dog so has only just let us know. If you are in or around this area can you please please help with getting more posters up. This area was postered but most have been removed. I have alerted Jess's owner and he is going to go through this area this afternoon and poster a few places. I suggested the fire station opposite Whiston Hospital, firemen will be around late at night and there is a small park where dog walkers go too.   I have searched all areas surrounding the railway from Lea Green up to St Helens Junction. I have revisited Sutton Mill Dam, The Old Colliery and the Wheatsheaf pub where the original sighting came from. I have also searched all railway bridges, all parks, streams and all undergrowth near to these areas.  I have been doing night searches at the weekends and will be doing so again this friday if we still have no news. Come on Jess........ please show yourself.....we need you home now sweetie xxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Although miles away from you, I've been following Jess's story and hoping and praying you will get another sighting or some new information very soon. Well done to Jess's owners for continuing the search for Jess and, of course, thank you to Rileys Mum for helping and supporting Jess's owners. As she's a young, fit and clever typical 'collie' girl, I'm certain she's out there somewhere, enjoying the wild life (in more ways than one!). It has been truly amazing how so many of our missing dogs soon adapt to cope and survive on their own. Just wanted you to know that I'm rooting for Jess and keeping just about everything crossed (including 6 pairs of paws!) 'this end'. Good Luck!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Forgot to mention that i have advised owners to go further afield with press coverage so i think the Warrington Guardian and the possibly the Liverpool Echo are going to be asked to run a story. If Jess has been taken in or even gone over the St Helens border then either of these papers may be able to help. Fingers crossed! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

12.50pm This morning i have been to Old Hall Farm (behind Mersey Valley Golf Course at Bold Heath) and Park Farm (Behind the Trigger Pond pub at Great Sankey) and have gave them both posters. The lady at Old Hall Farm suggested that Clock Face riding school be contacted as the people there know the local Game Keeper. I have contacted Jess's owner and he has confirmed that Clock Face Riding school have already been contacted and have been given a poster. I looked as far as i could out into the fields behind these farms but couldn't see anything. I couldn't go any further as it is private land. I have had a drive around Clock Face again and a short drive around Rainhill near to Blundells lane and Whistin Woods. No sightings now for a while. Come on Jess, where are you?? xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Shereen and Glynafon for those links. I have just spoken to Colchester DW and this found girl is sadly not Jess. Jess's owners phoned me on Saturday morning saying that they had possible sightings in Newton-Le-Willows of a dog matching Jess's description with a man and visiting a park on a daily basis. So off they went to sit and wait for the man to appear at the park.....the man turned up and the owners had a chat with him. It turns out that this man has Jess's brother!! How coincidental is that? Obviously the dog was Jess's twin! So that is look a like number 3! Today i have driven all around the fields off to the side of the M62. I can only get so close to them but i have now been told of some side roads that will get me closer to 2 more farms. I will try them in the morning. Have also spoken to a member of staff from clock face kennels who says that she saw a dog similar to Jess near to the Dam in Sutton, she described the dog as "skittish" and said it ran back into the wooded area when it saw her with her dogs. This fits with previous sightings but also fits with look a like number 1, same area, same character dog but will check it out anyway. Come on Jess.....show yourself and let's get you home and warm where you should be xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jess is in this weeks St Helens Star, small story with photo on page 7. Let's keep everything crossed that this brings good news. A few sightings to report in the Rainhill and Pex Hill Area!! Owners have been out and postered near to all sightings and have visited Pex Hill regularly, this is a known area to Jess as she used to walk there :) Owners have seen a similar looking dog to Jess here but this dog was with an owner, there have been reported sightings of a dog fitting Jess's description twice within a couple of hours, apparently alone!! The man who made the phone call seems pretty certain that it was Jess, he is a collie lover himself. Sounds promising! I have displayed posters and leaflets near to Whiston Woods and the Blundells lane/ St James road area of Rainhill. Also gave a poster to the petrol station near the Manor Farm pub as these have helped us with posters in the past. Everything crossed that the press coverage will bring lots of positive sightings and Jess can be brought home safely :) xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no news i'm afraid. I have driven around every day, gone to all reported sightings and postered and given leaflets to people nearby but nothing at all. It is so open that Jess could travel for miles without having to go near a road! I'm going to check have a rethink, maybe a change of tactics is needed. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you JeffandAlfsmum for thinking of Jess. 21.00pm Well what an eventful weekend it has been! I was driving along the M62 on friday to get my hubby from work when i saw a black dog running across the fields to my left. This dog was certainly alone and way off the track for it to be a regular walker. I immediately sent a text to Jess's owner as i could not get back to the field to check it out myself. Jess's owner went back but could not see the dog anywhere.  I went back up there yesterday and had a good look around but never seen anything. There is so much open land, so many farms! All farms have now been given a poster and are aware that Jess could be in the area or indeed on their land. We now know that Jess has 2 look-a-likes around that area as Jess's owners have been following up sightings which have turned out to be similar dogs. One of these dogs was unfortunately hit by a car after being chased by people thinking it was Jess :( Please please, if you think you see Jess, do NOT try to catch her yourself but ring the number provided asap. Any dog could panic and run into traffic as this one did. I just hope it was not seriously hurt. Jess's owner's have now had a reported sighting from Tower College road, Rainhill. This report has come after the person read the lost article in the St Helens Star yesterday. They said they had to stop the car while the black and white collie dog crossed the road. She was apprantly wearing a pink collar and tag. Owners have been to this area today and i am going to go and have a look around tomorrow morning. The article in the Star was intended to be just a lost & found section however after explaing to Jess's owner that a story with a picture of Jess may bring in more sightings, this is what they are going to do this week. My daughter has postered Rainhill high school and the care taker has said she is welcome to take more posters in so i will get them printed off for her. I have a poster in my car as i am in Rainhill on a daily basis for school runs. Tomorrow the shops in the village are going to be given a poster. Fingers crossed for tomorrow, i hope this dog is Jess. I just keep thinking "fields, farms, fields, farms" i dont know why but i do think she has found a barn somewhere.....she also likes to chase sheep :) Come on now Jess you little tinker, show yourself little girl so we get you home safe and warm again. Until then, stay safe sweetie xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks JeffandAlfsmum for looking out for Jess, I have breifly spoken to the finder of the dog you have posted about and also emailed Jess' poster to them, unfortunately my network kept dropping so it was only a brief call.  If the BC they have found is long coated it will not be Jess.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I forwarded the poster to my ever-helpful parents yesterday, who live in Rainhill, and I’ve just had the following email from them:-
"We have been out and driven around the full perimeter of the land south of Elton Head Road. In total we have put up 7 posters. One by St. Anne’s school because that is where mothers stand talking and they could live in the area mentioned. One at the back of Deepdale Drive by a footpath leading into the open land. One by the junction leading from the Jones estate (where cars park) waiting to get on to Warrington Road. One by Chapel Lane/Lourdes corner (also near to St. Bart’s school/Church and Ship Inn. One outside school gates on Elton Head Road. 2 others along Elton Head Road where footpaths lead into the fields on the south side.  We will try to get some others up as soon as possible."
Hopefully they might generate some new leads - good luck!

23.30 p.m.  Great she is going in the St Helen's Star we have had very good results in the past, work colleagues get this paper will ask them to look out for Jess being in it.  I've just checked online but cannot see anything in about Jess.  Free local papers in Merseyside have not been getting delivered for the past three week due to bad weather, not all editions were printed Christmas week.  I deliver the Merseymart which is the South Liverpool edition.  Everything is back to normal with deliveries from this week.  Thanks to the helpers who have replied to the emailing out offering to look out for her and pass the word on to family and friends who live in the area.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Jan for mailing the posters out xx 22.30pm No news today and owners are feeling a bit deflated. There was several reports of sightings in the same area today and so owners went to check them all out but it turns out that it is a similar dog to Jess, another black and white collie girl but with longer hair. It is thought that this other collie girl does have a home but is allowed to roam the streets during certain times of the day. I have spoken with the owners tonight and advised to POSTER POSTER POSTER like crazy, covering as much of the area as possible and also more of the area near to their home. Have advised they ask around near to last weeks sightings to see if anybody has cctv that could be checked. Owners have also got Jess in this weeks St Helens Star and so this will go out to both Rainhill and St Helens, apparently it is quite a big ad and so we are desperately hoping to get some more confirmed sightings after this. I also advised owner to poster Leigh Green train station which is quite nearby and did mention that they should ask about any accidents on the track :( Fingers crossed that the ad in the Star will bring some good news. I really want this little girl home safe, she is very dearly missed. I hope she is warm and safe somewhere. Until we find you Jess, stay safe little one xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

9.30pm Have been out searching again today, no luck i'm afraid. No food has been taken and no more sightings since the early hours of Saturday morning. Today we went slightly further afield, visited a few riding stables and farms and gave posters to them. There is so much open land there in that area, if Jess has put her nose to the ground she could travel for quite a few miles over grass land without having to even come near to a road. She is afraid of water too and there are a couple of water places in the area, a dam, a stream. Hopefully with her fear she will stay away from these places. Looking on a map if she sticks to the usual triangle she could head towards a few different areas and so these areas are now going to be searched and postered. Owners are going to broaden their search tomorrow, i am unable to get out physically searching until possibly Friday. Spoken to owner tonight and have suggested getting the family together at the weekend to cover a wider area. I will also be there, we can then search as much of this open land as possible and meet somewhere in the middle. I have suggested that owner speaks to farmers etc tomorrow. There have been a few "possible" sightings in areas near stables, which would make perfect sense of a dog looking for shelter. Wherever you are Jess, stay warm and stay safe  :) xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

12.20pm Just got back from the search. No sightings this morning and the food which was left down last night has not been touched. Yesterday was day 1 of the food station and today we have made a trail to the food station using sardines and her much loved sausages so i’m hoping that given time the smell willd draw Jess in further. We searched the whole wooded area, as much as we had access to, there is lots of undergrowth, have checked back alleys and abandoned gardens/greenhouses etc. Lots of passers by walking their dogs have been asked and are keeping a look out. The 2 previous sightings are right next to each other, literally each side of the same path so this is where we have started with the food trail. Owner is going back out a few times this afternoon and this evening and will update me later on. I will meet with owener again tomorrow morning if their is no further news today. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

10.50pm Spoken to owner again this evening, unfortunately the bbq did not result in any sightings of Jess this afternoon. They have been out searching again and have spoken again with the lady who reported the dog howling in the woods. Owner is now more sure that this dog was/is Jess. They have again scented the area after receiving the scenting instructions, owner has taken some socks and pilchards down tonight to leave somewhere in the hope that Jess will pick up the scent. I have offered to meet with owner tomorrow morning and see what has been covered so far, also to help search for Jess, tomorrow morning. Stay safe Jess, we will find you and bring you home soon xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

1.20pm Have now made contact with Jess's owner. There has been a confirmed sighting at a near by pub and a possible sighting in the woods near to where Jess went missing from. The lady who heard the dog howling in the woods says she saw a small black dog which would match Jess in the dark. I have suggested  that owner asks this lady to leave some food out to see if Jess will take it, which also means that we can keep her contained to this safe area in the woods. Owners are doing all the right things, notified the right people and have also been scenting the area. Posters have been displayed all around the immediate area. Have advised owner to go out this afternoon armed with a disposable bbq. Owner has visitors so a nice smelly bbq plus some familiar voices may draw Jess in closer. I have advised owner how to act if Jess is spotted eg crouch down and just say her name softly, no shouting or running towards her. I have offered to help with searches early this week if Jess is not drawn in by the sausages this afternoon :) Will now email scenting instructions and further contact info to owner. Come on Jess, let's be having you :) xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
