Glad Paddy is home safe and sound, at least. Could have been much worse. Welcome home Paddy xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

welcome home paddy,at last ! sounds like this vet is more money/business driven than animal welfare or returning dogs back to rightfull owners, even though paddy was chipped !? vets go on about how important it is( and it is ) and even when faced with the true evidence they still dont want to hand him back, crazy !!! well done all for getting him home where he belongs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So pleased that the head vet used some common sense. Please let me know if a fee is charged and the council involved because I will be writing to them to make a complaint.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ok, latest news is that Paddy is home.   The head vet at the practice has taken the iniative and let him come home.   From what Paddy's folks have told me, it seems that the vets, Pengelly & Mizen, have only recently taken over the stray contract, and don't appear to be fully up to date on things.   Paddy was only taken into the vets this morning by the person who found him last night, and kept him safe overnight.   The vets must have scanned him and then called us for or less immediately.  So the vets haven't even had Paddy overnight.   Although nothing was paid when Paddy was collected, the head vet was rustling about with paperwork and told Paddy's owners there would be, or could be a charge of ?100 + for Paddy being returned!!    He would know once he'd spoken to the council in the morning.  Nice work if you can get it!    Outrageous!   Nice little profit there on running a scanner over a dog and making one call!   Not even a nights board.   Will keep you posted on developments.
The main thing is Paddy is safely at home where he belongs.
Special thanks to the unknown person who took him in last night and gave him a bed for the night.

Yes, I want to know who this vet is so I can warn others who might lose a dog in that area. This is yet another example of the chaos and injustice that is happening as a result of the change in law that took responsibility for lost dogs away from the police and gave it to local councils. They then didn't have their offices or DW available out of office hours. Then it was contracted out to firms and kennels which has led to dogs not being reunited, but pts or sold on. Since the law is that the finder of a lost dog must restore the dog to its owner, if known; then it might seem that this vet could be illegally retaining property (the dog) of the known owner. I know this dog and I know Wiccaweys (and support and work with them).   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How bloody ridiculous where is it written that a vet cannot hand the dog back to it's rightful owner. Sounds to me like someone is too stupid to think for themselves. If the dog is handed over to the dog warden there will probably be a large fee to pay. What vet is holding him?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks all, thankfully the good news is Paddy is safe.
The bad news is that the vet that holds the stray contract won't give Paddy back to his family who are camped outside the surgery.
He 'has' to be given to the dog warden tomorrow and then collected from the stray kennels.  How bloody ridiculous!
His family are sitting outside the vets and want to take him home.  They've been up since the crack of dawn continuing the search.   They are desperate to be reunited.   Everyone knows it is Paddy and who he belongs too.  The vet herself phoned us to say they had him.
The officious vet is surrounding herself in red tape, and saying she can't release him because its a bank holiday and he has to go with the dog warden tomorrow.
So rather than Paddy be safe at home with his family and Bingo, he is sat alone in an empty vets building because the vet is now out on call.
Is it me?!?!?! Any ideas or thoughts?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Pete, now called Paddy (as in Pete & Bingo) went missing at about 5pm this evening from Cuckoo's Hollow, in Werrington, between Welbourne and Lakeside, off Fulbridge Road in Peterborough.  Multimap Link.
Pete/Paddy is a short coated black and white collie.
He is neutered and microchipped to Wiccaweys.
His family are still out searching, and his dad is going out now to lay scent trails around the area Paddy went missing from after just talking to us.  If Paddy isn't found tonight, we suspect he will hole himself up for the night.  We have advised they are at the area he disappeared from at dawn with very smelly food and Bingo to see if Paddy shows himself.  If Paddy is still missing in the morning, we would all appreciate any help with the search from local folks.
Paddy's dad Pete Jordon can be contacted on: 01733 571134 / 07742 592490 at anytime.  Wiccaweys number is: 07905 203254.
Come home Paddy.
