- If out of character for Hercules to go missing for so long it he , could be trapped in some outbuilding. Presume you have checked behind hedges/bushes too? Some cats that perhaps like Hercules who has a sore leg think that if they leave their territory a little they think their pain/soreness/discomfort will disappear. They associate how they feel with their territory. By leaving their garden for instance, they think that any discomfort they have felt will disappear.
