Caz, I so feel for you, as will everyone on doglost when they read your story.   I’d say it’s very likely that Demon was taken in by someone and is probably happy and loved;  as you say he’s a lovable chap and would get back what he gives.    As always, it’s the not knowing that hurts the most.  You did all you possibly could at the time, you did everything that would be suggested now, and yet there was no finding him.   If there’s one thing we learn from reading all the experiences on doglost, it’s that dogs do get taken in, a lot of people think it’s okay to do that, and some others don’t know what to do if they find a stray dog, so they keep them.   As you say, he had no chip or identification, which would make it easier for this to happen, although we know this isn’t by any means always a guarantee for successful return home.   Take heart from knowing you have done all you can, and still are now, and you never know, miracles do happen. xx
