Have had no internet access for the last couple of days and I'm so relieved to see that Lily has now been found and is safely back at the kennels;  I'm sure she feels so much better now.   A few days of TLC and companionship from her old friends will help no end, and then maybe when she feels more settled it would be nice to think she can try again with her new family (as long as it can be done safely);  so much nicer in a real home than in kennels, although I know it doesn't work for all.   Welcome back, lovely Lily xx

Thank you so much Eve for sending us the lovely reunited piccy of Lily. Doesn't she look cosy - I bet she slept well last night after a couple of good meals! As I've already said, well done all of the caring members of the kennel 'staff' and a big THANK YOU to Pete, the Dog Warden. Brilliant team effort!!!

Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare would like to thank everyone on this website , everyone in the local area of Sanderstead and Selsdon, Peter the dog warden  and everyone who searched high and low for Lily. Thank goodness this lost greyhound  has been found and will now have the opportunity to rest and recuperate from her stressful ordeal over the last 8 days. THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!     Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

sighting at 0430am this morning by newsagent in elmfield way. phone call received this afternoon notifying wimbledon greyhound welfare that peter the dog warden had   managed to capture lily-hooray- safe at last. she was found in a local school tennis court.  Fortunately two welfare staff were searching for her in the area  and were able to pick her up and return her to safety at the kennels where she is now recuperating. lily was visibly relieved to be found and is happily settled back with her greyhound friends- she kissed 'barney' and 'ollie' -resident greyhounds- on the nose.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I meant to say that I don't know the area very well but I would say that it is a combination of semi-rural, open fields and areas of reasonably dense housing. Would those who know the area better than I agree with this description?

Any news on Lily? I spoke to someone from the greyhound rescue kennels. It seems that Lily was in kennels (I don't know for how long) and that, prior to her going missing, she spent around a week with a family who owned another (or other) greyhound(s). Unfortunately this didn't work out and so Lily then went to a family who had recently 'lost' their old greyhound. Lily had only been with them a day when she went missing. I'm no expert when it comes to greyhounds but know others are on this site (including greylady) and so I don't know whether it makes the task of 'catching' her more difficult. I suggested that a old sweatshirt or similar piece of clothing belonging to a member of the kennel staff is left close to the sightings. As greylady has already said, I suspect that she has found a food source and shelter, hence the reason for her staying in what for her is unfamiliar territory. Hope you get a result soon!

Two sightings 0f Lily have been reported today (from Tuesday) 12/8 from a man walking his dog in the Plantation in the morning and evening (times TBC). His dog ran into the bushes and she ran out following. One Sighting reported yesterday (Sat 16th) of Lily running past the person at close quarters down Selsdon road heading towards Addington Rd. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She is most definately getting bolder then if she is choosing to come out in day light hours!  In the road where there have been sightings are there any pubs/food outlets? This could be her feeding station, and could be a place to plot up and watch her (might mean several nights of sitting very still and silent and just watching though).  In my experience greyhounds who have gone on the loose have made sure they are warm and dry, so look for signs of a bed under hedges (not sure if this area is rural or urban) or in a garage/shed etc.  She will most certainly NOT be out in the wet!!! I am sure you have already done so but please make sure the NGRC have her tattoos registered that she is lost..................just incase she gets picked up.  Good luck..........if you can plot an area where she is seen regularly then maybe a trap might be helpful, dependant on the type of area you are inLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

NEW SIGHTING  by 2 people at 1045-11am today-Friday 15th. She was still wearing her lead and was on High Street, Selsdon running towards Gravel Hill or Addington (could have gone either way). No further sighting since then. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lily is obviously staying around the same area where she went missing.   Poster madly there - I'm sure you already have - and ask everyone you see to look out for her.  Sorry I'm not near enough to help.   Is it possible to leave some clothing of someone she knows near where she's been seen, she would recognise the scent and it may help her to stay nearby.   Also some nice smelly food - pilchards attract well - left dawn and dusk.   I think I'd be tempted to sit in a car in the area if it's at all possible, perhaps early morning and evening, but needs to be someone she would know.   Good luck, hope she's found soon, stay safe Lily  xx

I'm so sorry to hear that Lily is missing. I totally agree with Ashmark that she may be caught up by her lead. Make sure you go back to the area she went missing from, preferably early in the morning when it is quieter and when you are more likely to hear her. Hope it won't be long until she's back home.

Dogs that go missing with the lead still attached often get caught up as the leads get wrapped around the undergrowth of hedges and trees so please go back and check the area she went missing from.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The local newspaper 'The Croydon Advertiser'  are going to run a feature on Lily.
I have created a facebook group about her so if any one is on facebook please join the group and add all your friends.  The group is called 'please help find Lily'.
We are going out today to put up posters.

She was still wearing leather collar with lead attached! as well as blue id colour. This is an excellent clue. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
Just some more information on Lily.  She actually belongs to Hersham Hounds a Greyhound Rescue centre.  Lily was out on a home trial when she escaped whilst out on a walk.
She is extremally nervous and was saved from being put to sleep only a couple of months ago.  Do not approach her as it will simply make her run away, please just call one of the numbers listed as she may only come to the people she knows.
I am about to upload a picture for you, it is not of Lily but of a male dog at the kennels who has very similar markings, another photo may follow of her but the markings are not very clear.
Lily is most likely to be hiding somewhere quiet and dark, so anyone living in the area please check any outbuildings/sheds/garages.
Lily is along way from home as the kennels are in Walton-on-Thames, and does not know the area she is in at all.
Please help us find her, and give her the chance of finding a home.

Owner, please check back to the place where Lily went missing, they usually return.   It would be worth leaving her blanket or some clothing with your scent on it in the area, that would encourage her to stay around.  Please upload a photo of her onto the site for her poster, or you can email one to admin@doglost.co.uk with her name and postcode.   Then poster the area like mad, especially near where she went missing, posters work, it only takes that one person to see her and get in touch.   Also contact dog warden at the Council Offices, and visit local pounds/kennels in person, to see if she's there, don't rely on phone calls.   Great that she's tattooed and tagged.   Good luck with your search, stay safe Lily xx
