Was this wee fella ever found xxxx
Lilian
Recently I was on holiday, & telling someone about losing Tom. She told me about an incident with a Jack Russell & a Badger. Apparently the Badger literally grabbed the Russell by the face & the poor little dog only had time for a small yelp, before the Badger had killed him. She said a Badger is very quick, & the dog has very little time to make any noise. I think that is probably what happened to Tom. But I am still looking for him. I won't write him off untill he would be 20 & there is no chance of him being alive. I still miss him terribly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I emailed the organisers at Brocklesby Fair, about distributing leaflet about Tommy. I offered to either do it myself or pay them.  They did not answer me.  2 days later I rang them about this.  The lady was very sympathetic, but said she was still seeking permission for this. I said if it were not possible could I post 2 posters at the entry & 2 at the exit gates.  It is now 5.30pm on the Saturday before the fair tomorrow & I still have not received any contact from them.  So I think it is fair to say that I do not have permission to post or distribute leaflets at this fair.

I think we will be going to the fair & distributing flyers about Tom.  I heard some very distressing news today about an old couple whose elderly dog has disappeared not far from here in the same way that Tommy did.  They too have put flyers around & are spending a lot of time walking around the fields trying to find him. But they too, are having great problems with not being able to see into the crops.  I do hope their dog is found & found soon. I really feel for them. They must be absolutely distraught, as I still am.

Lilian it seems much more than a year to me. We all seem to have been working on Tommy so hard and long. Tonight I have designed and emailed you new posters and flyers with two photos, and saying STILL MISSING, so you can print new ones for the anniversary, and the fair. They are in your in box now. Will bump Tommy on the 11th. You deserve some news! You have put so very much into this.  xx    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tom will have been missing a full year on 11th June at 7.25pm precisely.  This year it is a Thursday. He went missing on Wednesday.
I find this almost unbearable.

Photo received again, at higher resolution, so have re-loaded. I think it is clearer, and shows Tommy's colour to be much richer on his side, than on his face, and also quite a large, leggy boy, which is the Parsons bit, I know. Just a shame a little dark. We can all see how well loved he is. Thank you Lilian, so very much for your very kind donation to the site. It will help us all to continue helping all our lost doggies. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Sue for Countrymans. Have just received a new photo of Tommy which owner has just found, and asked if we would put it up. It is a shame, not very good quality, but have put it on for now, as requested and will go back to owner to see if she can send a larger file that may reproduce better. This photo does make him look different though, I will admit. Good Luck with Countryman's Tommy. I would love to get you home xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What a pity. I wish it were Tom.  I find his loss very hard to bear.  Someone told me the definition of love - Waking up every morning & crying, when you think about facing another day without the one you love. She was talking about a person.  But I feel this applies to animals as well.  This is how I feel about Tom. Also I read this in a book - "This sorrow is never going to leave you."  How true. I don't think it ever will.  Plus, Earnie Wise said about the death of Eric Morcambe - "The sunshine has gone out of my life."  It's gone out of mine too.  Part of me died when Tommy went missing.  I don't think it will ever return.
As you can see, I really, really, really, miss him.
I write these words & cry.
That's why I don't visit this site very often now.  It hurts like crazy.  But please, please  email me if there is any chance he has turned up anywhere.  I would go to the ends of the earth to fetch him back.

Bless you Lilian - that is such a wonderfull and thoughtfull thing to do. I hope your prayers are answered. It would not be the first time that a dog who has been missing for a long long time, suddenly turns up at owners home having escaped from wherever it was being kept.  And as you see, Tommy is not forgotten. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

He is still missing. I cry nearly every day if I let myself think of him.  I managed to acquire a dog kennel, which I have put on our side of the fence, cutting a hole in the fence to allow access. I have put his bed & bedding with his smell in this. In the forlorn hope that one day I might find him in this.  I left the gate open at night for months, but there was a spate of thefts in the area, & I could no longer do this. You site reduces me to tears every time I see it. In my heart, I believe that Tommy is dead. But I cannot close the door on him. So the kennel will remain where it is, probably for years. I check it at least twice a day. (I had my partner put a window into it so that I can see in.)  Oh well, no more news & nothing to report, so I will bid you goodbye for now.

Well, as you keep searching Lilian, I keep looking on here for news, and I look for him all the time on different websites, and I send his poster out. To be honest most dogs that get stuck down holes do get out, even if a couple of days later, when they have lost a bit of weight, unless of course they have come head to head with a badger or the ground has caved in, but I think you would have been aware of the later. I would have thought your other dog would have picked up the scent of the hole also, as you were searching so much at the time. I understand fully how you are feeling, but I'm not giving up on him yet xx Very wierd about the coat though ! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thought this might interest people.
2 days ago I was out walking my two dogs & looking for Tommy. Both dogs had a coat on.  The Labrador managed to loose hers whilst running about.  I searched for it that day but did not find it. The next day I went out with the dogs & went to the area I thought the coat had been lost.  It took me no more than 10 minutes to find it, & it was not in open view.  Isn't that ironic. I can find a dog coat in 1 day, but I can't find Tom in 5 1/2 months, & I look nearly every day.  This seems to say to me that he is not on top of the ground, but underneath it. Probably in a hole somewhere very near where I last saw him. I have had this feeling of dread ever since he went missing. It never leaves me. I keep returning to where I last saw him, in the belief that he is somewhere near, but I simply cannot find him. I search a slightly different area of farmland every day.  I have seen all sorts of things, animate & inaminate, but no sign of Tom. I will keep searching, but have very little hope left.

I have contacted Kathy. We think the dog she has may not be Tom, as his patches are more like a colour wash & Tommy's are quite distinct. Also her dog has some black hairs & Tom has none of these. I am sending her some pictures of Tom so that she can get a better idea of him. She is going to send me some pictures of her dog on Saturday. So we wait & see.
I seem to have some difficulty getting on to this site, so any information, please contact me by phone - 01673 818625. If not answered please leave a message as these are always listened to & answered. (This is my 2nd attempt today at leaving a comment!)

I am so sorry your lovely little boy is still missing.  I have read your messages and it's heartbreaking to think how hard you have worked and how much you must miss him.  I had a best friend just like him and I don't know what I'd have done if I'd lost her in this way.  I may have missed this but I wonder if you've contacted the Traveller's Liason Officer for your area (no. will be with the local Council).  Little Gus disappeared the same way on Suffolk/Norfolk border, it's all very odd.  I keep my fingers crossed for you and for Tommy's safe return. x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

will someone please ask the owner to phone me i have found a dog similar to this in Halifax however don't get your hopes up as this chap I have isn't microchipped and the poster says Tommy is chipped. The dog i found has a shy nervous temperament.  We have him safe and well looked after, we have bathed him, treated him for fleas and worms and given a good feed and lots of cuddles. I had one reply to the 550 flyers. Saying that someone had seen a dog matching Tommy's description about Hibaldstow (8 miles from us) 2 days after he went missing. So I put posters up in the Fish Shop, Dr.s Surgery & 2 Shops there.  A gentleman rang me last Sunday to say he thought he had seen Tom.  I went to Hibaldstow & met this man, with who's help we manage to track down the dog.  Unfortunately it was not Tom, but another lovely little dog.  Today I received a call about a dog at a Vets near Boston. I rang them, & they confirmed that they had a Parsons Jack Russell. When I described Tom we originally thought it was him, untill we realised that the brown patch was over the wrong eye & their dog has been neutered.  They have a poster of Tommy & are absolutely sure that they don't have Tom. I was quite prepared to go & see this dog, but they say there is no point as is definately is not him.  I also contacted the rivers authority, who say they have not found a dog either. Every day when I walk the dogs, I search a slightly different route throught the farmland around me, hoping to find some sign  of Tom. Although I have very little hope left.  I just hope that someone picked him up, & has given him a good home, but I will always look for him.  He was my best friend, & I adored him.

MESSAGE FROM LILIAN :- Just to update you.
I have now printed 1320 A5 flyers for insertion into the two local magazines which are circulated in my area. They are delivered free to every house in the area.  550 of these are in the process of being delivered. The rest will be delivered in the other magazine's November issue.
Am now turning my attention to working through the lists you have provided.
Still no signs of Tommy.
Thanks for all you help.
Best regards
Lilian

Lillian is doing a brilliant job, shame there seems to be no sign of Tommy. This dogs disappearance is similar to that of Freddie ID12513 and is not too far away. MESAGE FROM LILIAN :- I contacted all the farmers & gamekeepers in the area shortly after Tom went missing. I contacted the two nearest farmers again as harvest approached, asking to let me know if they found any sign of Tom. The harvest is nearly in now, & no one has contacted me.
I put adverts in the Lincs Echo. Gainsboro paper. Target. Scunthorpe Telegraph. Hull Daily Mail. Market Rasen Mail. Louth Leader. Grimsby & Horncastle papers etc.  I had one reply from the Lincs Echo, which proved not to be Tom. I have so far had at least 6 replies from the Hull paper, nearly all telling me about a dog with the PDSA. I called them, but they said it was a girl.  I called them a 2nd time as the description was so close, but they insisted that they had a girl. So I have sent them a poster.
I continue to walk the fields with my dogs. I have come across several large (probably Badger) holes in 3 different areas so far. but no sign of Tom.
I have sent posters to the 1st lot of Vets & Rescue centres that you sent.
I have also rang & sent a poster to the local Hunt.
I have also arranged that I can put A5 inserts into the local magazine, which is published monthly. This is a run of 500 of my nearest neighbours, & is delivered to every house.

Have now received a better photo from Lilian which I have uploaded, and loaded the original onto the other photo frame. I have also now received a poster of Tommy with this better description of Tommy. >>He is long legged with chestnut ears, large patch on right shoulder, and patch on base of tail. Also patch over right eye which has an overlay of white hairs. Wearing a black fabric collar with ID disc which may have been slipped before he was picked up as the collar was loose. Owner misses him very much and there is a cash reward for his safe return. <<< thanks Lilian. Your additional vets list will be winging its way to you shortly. You are doing very well now. Missing Tommy terribly. He went missing in farmland. All the local farmers have been informed. I look for him every evening, but have had no luck so far.  Have also informed Rescue & boarding kennels. Vets. Dog wardens. Police (they don't want to know.) RSPCA but found them very difficult to get hold of. Local gamekeepers. Local radio stations. Dropped illustrated leaflets all round area, plus shops, pubs & doctors surgery. I knew he was missing within 2 minutes of his dissapearance. I called & called, & searched for him for 4 hours. I have looked in every animal hole that I have found & called him. I can't understand it. He showed no inclination to run away. I truely think he didn't come back because he couldn't. But I can't find any sign of him.

It's a long shot I know but the stray dog picked up on A158 and brought to our house in case it was our precious Sally looked a bit like this dog, certainly in the face and coat. I thought he looked more gingery than white but he might just have been dirty. Taken to Lincoln by Norman Paskin 07710 327569, might be worth giving him a ring as think he was contacting the RSPCA. I'd asked him to let me know if dog not being homed until owner found as I would have had him here but haven't heard from him. This was Sunday 2 Sept and we are on A158 Lincoln side of Wragby, dog found north of Horncastle in direction of Louth not near any houses. good luck MoiraLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lilian your flyers have been ordered from majorjet who will kindly do them for you, but may be tomorrow. We will also sort out your registration in order that you can keep in touch and leave comments. I also said I would leave a list on here of suggestions for postering or flyering. I know its rural, so will leave it to your discretion. these are just suggestions. Dog wardens have been done, but another call to remind them would be good. All rescue centres- Breed rescues - Vets over a really wide area -  Dog training clubs - dog groomers - boarding kennels - dog walkers - Street cleaners - railways - water authorities - pet shops and animal feed stores - stable, sadleries and riding centres - taxi offices - any large events - farmers markets etc - markets - boot fairs - community halls - pubs, social, and sports clubs - schools - postmen - bin men - supermarkets - churches - take away food stores - libarary, mobile library etc. I'm sure there are more. Stay safe Tommy x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to Tommy's owner who is absolutely desperate to get him back. She has done extremely well with posters and flyers, but he has gone from a very rural area, and could have been picked up. Owner has made a tremendous effort and there is a lot of media going out this week with article in The Lincolnshire Echo and the Market Rasen Mail. He has been bumped because of this. There has been a lot done already, but we still have plenty more we can do. Come on Tommy ! we know you are out there somewhere and we want you back home. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

He may look familiar from the 'Four-Legged-Friends' rescue site (http://fourleggedfriends.bravehost.com) as he was rehomed from here in approx September 2006 and would have been on the website for a few months. This is the exact picture that was on the site.
The owner said he never wandered off on walks, she was out walking in the field near her home, turned round and he had gone, very out of character for him. That was 7 weeks ago. She has made a very good effort with posters etc since he went missing and goes out looking for him every night hoping for some news.

I have been searching all rescue centres on the internet as this old fellas face looks very familiar but so far I haven't come across a match. Hope you find him soon. I suspect he has been taken in by some kind person so keep postering far and wide.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner, so sorry Tommy is missing, but thank you for registering with Doglost. If you could give us any more details of exactly how, and where he went missing it would be an advantage. Also, please upload a photograph for the poster. You will need to get as many of these out there as possible. Place them in clear plastic sleeves with the opening at the bottom and ensure they are securely fixed to with stand the weather. Concentrate initialy on the immediate are that Tommy became lost, and work outwards over a wider distance witha s many posters as you possibly can. Hand them out to dog walkers in the area and inform all your local vets, dog wardens, pounds, and animal shelters. He may have been picked up and handed in. Remember you will need to visit in person to ensure Tommy is not there already, as he can be re-homed after only seven days if not claimed. If possible get an advert or article with a photo in all your local newspapers and free papers. Also if lost in rural area search for rabbit holes, in case he has got stuck. Perhaps another dog could sniff him out. Good luck with your search. Any trouble with uploading the photo, please email it to admin@doglost.co.uk and we will put it on for you. Tommy is a very friendly parsons jack russell who has long legs and a wire coat. It is very out of character for him to go missing. Last seen 7.25 on Weds 11th June, cross lane, Bishop Norton. Has collar with name tag on but collar could be slipped. No microchipped or tattoo. Missed terribly by owner. Reward for safe return.
