Having been the extremely proud foster carer of two Police dogs I am extremely upset by this incident. Why did the Police not ensure, firstly that the pup was chipped (knowing that the Met and Gwent Police chip all their pups before handing them over to foster homes) and secondly that where the pup was kept , that it was secure, because if someone stole the pup then it was not secure.. I am sure that the carers will now take extra special care with their charge and not leave it alone. Unfortunately in this day and age regardless of the pup belonging to the police or the public there are always undesireables out there and you cannot take enough care of small defence creatures. Stay safe little one. Hope you get a good name at some point.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good to see this little girl back Just gose to show it's not what you know it is who, I hope now this little girl will get a tag and some sort of ID for what ever the police do, Also hope now it will be watch when in the garden on its own, shame we have to do this but this is a part of life now nothing is safe where ever it is and what ever it is.
Stay save now little girl and I hope your life in the police is a good one.

I think she should be in blue now as I understand from BBC news site that she has been found early hours this morning at the address in Stoubridge. Fantastic. I wonder who had her and how they knew where she was?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I came across Xamms story on the BBC website and alerted Jane. Additional details: Stolen from the garden of her Puppy Walker (Fosterer) after 1900 Weds 16th. Tag marked West Midlands Police. Vaccinations only part complete. Whatever you may think of the police ref. stolen dogs the Puppy Walking family will be as upset as anyone who has lost a 12 week old pup. And members of Police Dog Units aren't exactly chosen for their indifference to dogs, there are few bonds stronger than that between partners who face danger together, relying on each to protect the other. And Xamm doesn't know she's a Police Dog, she's not to blame for the failings of humans across the country. As for what they are doing, well for a start they have got local BBC TV coverage... Head of the Dog Unit is Insp Stuart Manley, hopefully he can/will/is liaise/ing with DogLost. RickLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is a police dog. What are they doing about it? Which police station was training him. These dogs cost police a lot of (tax payers) money as only very special puppies are chosen and are very expensive. Does this mean that police will now take this crime seriously?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is not a lot of details of how xamm was stolen was it from the home this would help others to help with the finding of her. if she was taken from the home it might be worth finding out who knew you had her, if it was only her missing. Make her hot lots of posters need to be put up and talk to your neigbours also get an add put in the local paper. But owner please let us know how she was taken. Hope she will be found soon.

Firstly inform the Dog warden who you will be able to contact at your council offices. Posters (In plastic folders) need to be put up in the area where Xamm went missing, or where there have been sightings, if any- on lamposts, entrances to parks and strategic places in parks,  like at the start and finish of tracks and paths, dog bins, at vets, petshops, pubs, carry-out food shops, post offices,  local shops who often allow postcards in the window, supermarkets who have notice boards, community centres, youth clubs, schools etc. You can ask the postman, milkman, taxi drivers,  street cleaners,  binmen (even put poster on bins), to take some flyers and hand them out on their rounds. You can ask school bus drivers and kids on the bus, or if you have kids on the bus, get them to hand out flyers at school.  Deliver flyers to houses, businesses & pop through letterboxes . Hand out flyers to people in the street, especially dog walkers. Put posters or flyers  in  car windows. Rescue centres and kennels, also police offices need checking regularly and preferably visited in person, by owner or someone who knows the dog, because your dog or it's breed may not be recognised by other people. Also police are sometimes too busy to deal with it. Get some media coverage if you can, by asking the local radio station to broadcast Xamm as missing and put an ad in the local newspaper with a picture of her. In the case where she may have been stolen, make him too hot for thieves to handle. Posters and lots of coverage is the best way to get Xamm home.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
