I have shared the appeal for information on any platform i can think of. This was a particularly nasty incident, and I am so glad the police seem to have a lead, although as yet it sounds like they need more evidence. Someone must have seen something. It is a busy road!

Police are appealing for information after a pet dog was stolen from her owner in Brighton.

Pip, a greyhound-Great Dane crossbreed, was taken by three unknown men and put into a black Volvo 4x4 which then made off from the scene.

The victim, a local man in his 30s, had been parked in a layby in Falmer Road, between the Amex stadium and Woodingdean, when the incident occurred around 5.20pm on Wednesday (10 October).

Following enquiries, police located the vehicle in Crawley on Thursday (11 October) and the driver was arrested.

A 23-year-old man from Horley in Surrey, arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon (a knife) in a public place, has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Pip is now safe and has since been reunited with her owners, having been located by a member of the public in Burgess Hill on Thursday (11 October).

Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 875 of 10/10.

You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or report it online.

Hi TK the number quoted is an incident number, from the comments it looks like Pip is found, if this is not the case though please ask for a crime reference number & send this to stolen@doglost.co.uk x

It is Pip, she was running around Priory Hospital with a blue rope round her neck. Safe with one of the workers and responds to her name.

Have just read this update on Pip's fb page... So upsetting

" My partner Edwin Lugg and I would like to thank you so much for sharing our post - we just wanted to clarify the story a little more.

Pip wasn't just taken while out on a walk - what actually happened was a lot more shocking.

Pip and Edwin returned to his car after they'd been for a walk. On the other side of the road, a black 4x4 stopped and blocked the road. Three men in their mid-twenties got out of the car and came towards Edwin.

They asked Edwin where he'd gotten the dog, and he told them he'd rescued her just over three years ago. They then said their dog had been stolen and claimed that Pip was theirs. Obviously this isn't true, and Ed told them that. But then they took our dog by force.

One man opened the car door, dragged Pip out and ripped off her collar. Pip was petrified, crying and tried to run away. She's so kind-hearted and loving she didn't even growl or attempt to hurt them.
They continued to accuse Edwin of stealing their dog. One of the men shoved is thumb into Pip's spine and made her yelp.

Throughout this encounter, these men told Edwin several times that they are 'from the traveller community' and 'from traveller families' - basically trying to threaten and intimidate him into letting them get away with taking Pip.

Edwin managed to get hold of Pip and get her in the car. He got in the car and tried to get away but they opened the rear door, dragged Pip out again and two men carried her into their vehicle, while the third guy stood there intimidating Edwin, goading him to fight, and preventing him from trying to get Pip back.

Pip is an amazing creature; not only is she a well-mannered, loving, family pet with a great temperament - she's also incredibly strong and fast. The latter features make her very appealing for certain 'sports' - and we believe this is why she was stolen.

We are apprehensive about sharing the fact that these men told Edwin they were travellers. In no way do we believe, support, nor wish to promote any negative stereotypes associated with the traveller community. We simply have to share this information because it may help us get Pip back. "

Admin please could email alerts be sent out to surrounding areas far and wide.
As owners have a CRN plesae could Pip be moved to Stolen.
