RAINBOW BRIDGE - Sadly Freddy was found dead on the railway line, close to where he went missing from and around the time that DogLost went offline. A caring train driver spotted him and even stopped his train to take a closer look. He had seen one of Freddy's posters and called the family to tell them the awful news. He then arranged for Freddy's family to collect his body so that he could be laid to rest. Rest in peace Freddy - sweet dreams little lad... x

Pleased to hear that all the local dogs enjoyed the BBQ! A good idea to poster all the houses that back onto the woods. Good luck with that tomorrow - hope the weather is okay for you. Had a BBQ in the woods behind Eynsford Rec tonight. Very nice food, chicken breast, Scillian sausages and sardines all very smelly. Unfortunately no Freddy! Lots of interest from other dogs though! Ok, that's great! The stables are Petts Wood stables. Go into the rec (off Shepperton road, omg I can't remember the name of the road. Maybe Eynsford Close or similar). When you get into the park, turn left and the stables are at the top (allotments are just past the swings on the right). The stables should be busy early evening but people are around during the day too. Come on Freddy! Make a birthday wish come true!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I also think i will put leaflets through the doors on Tuesday, in and around Shepperton Road. Really big thank you to you both. I haven't found the ice cream van yet but will keep listening & looking. I saw the stables but it was late and it looked shut for the night but i will try again, the same with the allotments. I'm so pleased to hear the latest news about Freddy. It all sounds quite feasible that it's him. Thanks to everyone for their continued support, suggestions and help. Jacky-uk, thanks for your tip about BBQing sardines. I'm sure that will get his ol' sniffer going! Hope today's lovely weather helps with your search for Freddy. Good news. Took a call yesterday (early evening) from a man who said he saw Freddy in a recreation area behind Crofton School on Wed. about 4.30 and his son had seen him in the same area a couple of weeks earlier! but hadn't seen our posters then. There is an alleyway in Heathside which is off Broadcroft Road (opp. the parade of shops at Crofton) which leads to woods which travel to Bromley Common and down to the Coppice. By the description I am positive it's Fred. He said he looks well, bit thin but 'purposeful' Man thought Freddy was with other dog walkers until he peeled off from them! Man said Freddy came over to his dog but was timid of him and ran off. Postered the surrounding roads and some of the entrances in, plus some posts we found in the woods/rec last night ready for the weekend with (hopefully) lots of people out and about. Gave out small posters to dog walkers and a kind mum whose son goes to Crofton School who said she would give out some for us to other mums at the school who live nearby. Stu is there now with our dogs and over the weekend we will shift our efforts to this area, we feel a search and Bar B Q might help here. We're so relieved to get the call.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No more sightings, it's gone very quiet but we're going to change the old posters from when he first went missing and put the small missing ones up. Hopefully people will start looking at them again and will carry on keeping an eye out for him. The Sponge Kitchen is very popular and it's near to Kelsey park. Last week my daughter postered kelsey park entrances as well so people will see his poster and hopefully tell others and keep an eye out. Just checking in on Freddy's page, as I do every day. I'm sorry that things have gone quiet and that there haven't been any positive sightings but good to know that people are aware that Freddy is still missing and that they are calling you. Just where can that naughty boy be? Do hope that you get the call that you have been waiting for very soon. I noticed that our local bakery at the Chinese Garage is displaying Freddy's poster in their window. It's a very popular bakery and eating place and so plenty of people will see the Missing Poster. Keeping everything crossed 'this end'. Come on Freddy, show your cute little face.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have had a phone call from a boy who saw a dog matching freddy's description running around Willets recreation ground in Petts Wood. He saw the dog at 8pm yesterday by the tennis courts in the recreation ground. We had postered the area around the grounds but the boy didn't see one of the posters. He heard about freddy through someone else. We have been there this afternoon and it is quite a busy area, so hopefully freddy is still ducking in and out of Jubilee park and managing to avoid the traffic. Back BarBQing tonight in Petts wood car park for Jubilee, where we have scented to. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Caryn and Tazmo007 thank you for the extra posters even those not up very long! Its happening with some of the earlier posters of mine but yesterday we flew round and repostered those taken down and covered bromley common and around the bus garage. It was a quiet weekend- a few calls but I was hoping for more. Since the ad in the Kent Messenger papers, I have had calls from ladies who have found JRT's in Rochester x2 and a lady from Gillingham who had found a dog and were told by the police to keep them until they received any calls!!!. I gave them doglost details instead of the police 'route' which just appears to be so random! I also registered with the missing pet bureau yesterday.....Will keep you posted. Grrr. Thank you to the selfish young people of Petts Wood (I presume) who destroyed my poster at the actual rec. Can anyone replace pls as I am no longer in the area. Freddy's family, if you get a map, you will see where the Coppice estate goes into the woods, and you can then cover the roads that line the woods/fields/park and each entrance, if you haven't already. Happily the posters in the woods are still there. I really really hope Freddy is home really soon. He is certainly famous in Petts Wood.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have put posters up at einsford rec and where the path comes in from the Coppice Estate. 'Ash Row' is where the man thought he spotted freddy. Its fairly central amongst the little roads around there. There are lots of cul de sacs which lead directly onto different fields and woods surrounding the estate. I could also see the greens for Bromley Golf Club nearby so we have been in the golf club tonight and they have agreed to put his poster up for us. It's funny, cos I also tracked down some outlets selling disposable BBQs and I found that BP Express Shopping in Widmore Rd sold both large and small BBQs. Also Focus DIY at Coney Hall and Millets in Bromley High Street have them (small size only). I'm sorry to hear that the Dog Section couldn't help you. I wonder if there are any more groups out there that could help find Freddy. Do any DL Helpers know of any in the Bromley/North Kent area? I have to say that the recent siting on the Coppice Estate sounds hopeful and what a lovely man to give up so much of his time to show you where he thought he had sighted Freddy. It's only at times like this that you discover how many decent and caring people there are around us! I was looking on the map and couldn't seem to locate the Coppice Estate. What's the name of the road where the chap saw him? By his description, it certainly sounded like it could be Freddy. Hope the ad in the News Shopper does the trick in getting your little lad home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

To millie's mum - M & S at widmore green have disposable BBQ, so will pick up two or three tonight and will prepare ourselves for some early morning BBQ breakfasts!! Your phone call was much appreciated, thank you. Unfortunately Hayes dog section don't believe they can help because the dogs there cover the following human remains, human chasing, drugs and explosives, etc and they would be overwhelmed by the scents of all the other dogs and it would be a waste of time trying. Because of the sighting of Freddy in Bromley High School I repostered after searching etc asking for extra vigilance and gave times and details of the sighting in the school just so everyone knows we are still actively looking. These posters were up the same night- by 10am the next day a lady rang to say her dog who looks identical to freddy was in the park, possibly the school, at the time of the sighting, so was it a case of mistaken identity, although the dog seen was tearing around with a ball and the lady told me her dog never bothers with balls where freddy loves them! I don't know but we'll assume it could be freddy. I took a second call yesterday while i was searching around the school to say a man had seen fred running loose (with a tan coloured collar?!!!!) around the coppice estate which is approx. 1/2 mile from where fred went missing. Picked the man up who took me to where he saw freddy and i searched for a couple of hours, shouting and repostering around the area. Again it could be fred but the collar bothers me a little. Husband was in the estate last night and again very early this morning with our other dogs- no luck but we will keep trying. Have made calls today about the posssibility of a sniffer search dog for the estate because we have freds blanket and we have never taken freddy to the coppice, so its worth a try. Been back to Battersea today- no luck. Hopefully our advert is in the news shopper-haven't had time to check yet. Can someone please check the Kent Messenger Group papers for me to see if our ad has made it in this weeks copy. We don't know this paper nor is it sold locally so please let me know if you see the ad and where you are,i.e sevenoaks, gillingham, gravesend etc. We are flagging a bit so we're relying on these ads adding to the momentum in our search for freddy. thank you everyone for your efforts and support. We check this site regularly its just difficult because when i'm replying i feel guilty i'm not searching but i expect you know how this feels- we are trying to cover so many areas so the extra posters from others are invaluable because the only feedback we have had is from the posters! We really feel its the effort from us directly and this site that will get fred home- please please keep helping us.Thank you EVERYONE!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Freddy's Mum, that is brilliant news. I've just looked at the map and it all seems extremely likely that this could be Freddy. Apart from the scenting 'material' you are using (by the way, it can be diluted to make it go further!) the other scenting material you can use, is the contents of your hoover bag! I know it sounds daft but it has been known to work on many occasions. You need to damp it down a little and then dot it around but following a route to some of Freddy's bedding or an item of UNWASHED clothing i.e. T-shirt, old jumper, socks as well as some nice smelly food like pilchards, if he likes them. Of course, there is always the problems that Mr Fox might come along but it's worth a try. And what a lovely and caring caretaker to help you look for Freddy. If you think it is Freddy, get permission from the school and set up a very early morning barbecue (just use the disposable ones, if you can find them this time of year). The smell of cooking sausages & bacon in the early morning air will carry 'for miles'. Good Luck! Please let this be Freddy!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

@ 4:35 there was a sighting of a dog matching freddy's description running loose around Bromley high school. we do think it might be freddy. we've spent a couple of hours @ the school, which backs on to Jubilee and in Jubilee park. The caretaker is helping us to look for him too. This is the best news we've had so far. Earlier today we had an anonymous call from a dog trader who thought he had bought freddy but it wasn't freddy because freddy has a physical identifier we haven't postered to weed out the crank callers of which there has been a few! We are back up there tonight at 9, layig scent (thanks milly's mum) freddy will recognise, and calling out and we will continue searching. Will keep you posted. please keep your fingers crossed for us. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I keep meaning to ask, is Jubilee Park just a walk from your home or do you drive the dogs there for their walks. I was just wondering how likely it was that Freddy could find his own way home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My parents live by Bullers Wood School, I will put some posters up around there when I go there (unfortunately it probably won't be until the weekend). I will also put the smaller ones through the letters boxes of the houses in the area. Have you spoken to the postmen around there? They may see him on their travels?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes we have managed to download the mini flyers and they are at the printers. Yesterday we postered more areas around Chislehurst common and spoke to various kennels. Having trouble speaking to dog wardens apart from a fantastic lady in Sevenoaks. Pond Farm Kennels takes dogs from Bexley area and this lady was very helpful, we are getting phone calls because of the posters, repeat phone calls about a JRT at Star Lane, we have been up there searching and postering several times very early in the morning and very late at night (especially) we have asked our friends to put posters in their cars while they are out and about. We searched the woods around Jubilee Park again yesterday. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went out this morning and posters are now in place in tack room/tea rooms in stables I mentioned and another poster on board at back of the Fox Pub on Coulsdon Common, hope he turns up soon, Have you looked down all the local fox/badger and rabbit holes? My Jack Russell is a little beast for going down them, they get so involved in sniffing out what ever is down there they forget to come out! Austin (Oz)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The small posters are now on the info centre, left hand side above Dolly's Directive logo. You need to give them time to download. Print these off and use them for handouts and for posting through doors. Good Luck, and stay safe Freddy until we find you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

To Unicornleathersaddlery, that would be fantastic if you could poster these stables, we have postered along Layham Road this morning in the hope of getting hits from people going to the Boot fair which was then cancelled. We would very much appreciate it if you could ask the riders to keep an eye out for Freddy as well. To Milly`s mum yes please to the mini flyers. Thank you to everbody for the ongoing help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks unicornleathersaddlery for your offer. I'm certain Freddy's owners would be pleased if you would poster the stables you have mentioned, especially as you probably have good contacts there. Perhaps Freddy's owners would confirm whether (or not) they have already visited these 3 stable yards, once they have returned from their searching and postering later today.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Doglady emailed me and asked if I can put a poster up over the Fox (Coulsdon Common) which I will do tonight and I can tomorrow afternoon put up a poster in each of the following places that I often go to unless anyone else has done it?? They are Caravan Stables (opposite Metropolitan Police Dog Training centre ) down Layhams Road (Keston), 5 Oaks Stables also in Layhams Road and finally Wickham Court Farm, yes you have guessed it ,also down Layhams Road, all the riders in these stables can then keep a look out whilst out riding , Oz :)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I didn't really make myself clear when I mentioned railway stations. I meant to hand out the mini-flyers to the commuters, not just poster the station. Let me know if you require the Doglost mini-posters (3 or 4 to a page, including Freddy's photo and missing details). They don't have to be printed off in colour. When we used them for our missing (now reunited Samson) I bought some BRIGHT orange paper and just printed them in black and white. As I say, let me know - just request them in a message posted on Freddy's page.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good effort with the postering and for continuing to make Freddy so well-known. You've covered some important areas. It was also nice to have an update from Elle. I spotted Freddy's missing posters along Wickham Rd (Beckenham) yesterday evening. You're certainly covering alot of ground! I expect you've already done this, but what about your local railway stations - have these been postered? It's a good idea to go along when commuters are returning home FROM work (they may not have the time to linger/talk in the morning). As with supermarket car parks, you can cover alot of people in a small area. Also, since the railway line runs alongside Jubilee Park, someone just may have spotted him from the train (if this is possible). I'm still wondering whether, if Freddy took off after a fox, that he may have got himself stuck down a foxes hole. I know that, with this possibility in mind, you have already checked out the wooded area (you also mentioned that there are badger setts) but I wonder whether there is a local group of people who are familiar with the area and who would have the knowledge/equipment (not sure what) to investigate the foxes dens and badger setts. Does anyone on here know of any such local group? Good luck in your search today for lovely Freddy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to add to the boot fair discussion - the first fair of the season is on at Highams Farm tomorrow (top of Layhams Road and turn left into Sheepbarn Lane). Hi i'm Mandy's daughter and Freddy is my dog. I love him so much and i really miss him. Thank to everyone who has helped us because you have kept us going and given us hope, when we have felt low. Thank you caryn for for Hewitts farm and the Five bells. Thank you Milly's mum for flamingo boot fair, we know where it is and will poster it tomorrow. My mum has been to hayes street farm shop and mini garden centre there and both took posters and offered to laminate their own, earlier in the week but we will remember the boot fair for next week. To Samsons mum your story gives us hope - thank you. Some school friends have been helping me poster and give out flyers and are going to help again tomorrow. Hi Freddy's family - you have been busy - but it helps doesnt it in some small way to know you are not just waiting, you feel more positive and so you should. Our Rottie was missing and found after postering like mad, so keep it up and he will be re united with you. He is georgeous and he will be found for you. Also Zinzan was found after much awareness and postering so keep it up. There is often a boot fare at Hewitts Farm where Fired Earth is so i will go and put up poster there this evening for you. Likewise will one into the Five Bells Chelsfield Village for you. Cant wait to hear when he is home. Good luck, stay positive. Caryn xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Freddy's owners, when I spoke to you this morning, I mentioned local Boot Fairs (including Hayes Street Farm Boot Fair) being a good place to poster. I have now checked out a Boot Fair website and the Hayes Street Farm Boot Fairs don't commence until NEXT Sunday, 13th April. I didn't want you to go along, only to find it closed, when you can be concenrating your efforts elsewhere. However, one that ought to be targetted is the Flamingo Park Boot Fair. The first boot fair of the season is tomorrow, Sunday, 6th April. Gates open at 11am. I've never been but I hear that it's a useful place to go if you are looking for a missing dog (even though their ad in the News Shopper clearly states NO DOGS). If you don't know it, it's on the A20 By-Pass between Queen Mary's Hospital & Five Ways (London Bound). Also, hello to leemasons18 (aka samsonsmum) and thanks for posting a message on Freddy's page. Samson, the gorgeous SBT was one of our local success stories!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone its samsonsmum, had a few problems with computer, so have changed name. Sorry to hear about Fred, I'm sure he will be back soon, don't forget its school holidays, and maybe some children have found him and are keeping him safe until they see the posters or their parents have enough. Newsshopper ad is a great idea as it covers a vast area. Samson my staff got out of our garden and was picked up the same day by someone and eventually came home 2 weeks later, he had been sold on in the mean time and thanks to all the postering and ads in the newsshopper he came back. So I am sure if Sammy came back so will Fred. Don't give up, we kept intouch with battersea, local vets and dog wardens everyday also the police station. I'm sure he'll be back soon. doglady, thanks, as always for your support/advice/ideas/help with postering and words of encouragement - it's very much appreciated! freddy's mum, great that you are making little Freddy so well known. You and your family and friends are doing a brilliant job. It appears you just tried to send me a PM but all I got was a blank screen. It was one of my failings in the early days - just ask doglady! I'm around until 11ish & so perhaps I will give you a quick call (don't want to block your phone for too long just in case more important ones are coming through!).Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you doglady for the New Addington tip-will do it this evening! And for the Caterham posters because its exhausting. Back in the woods at 6 this morning and I left a poster with the travellers at Star Lane aswell as every dog walker, paperboy, postman and community & push bike policemen I could find out early. Have spoken with local stables too and left posters with them. Please please keep ideas coming - it really helps us. My daughter and friend are off to Asda at Swanley shortly while I make up some more plastic posters for later. Another friend is postering Bexley today with her husband. WOW! you have been busy!!! It's great that you have registered and have posted such a comprehensive update. All I can say is WELL DONE! By making Freddy, the best known and hottest boy in town will give him the best possible chance of being reunited with you. I bet the lookalike JRT at Battersea was a heart stopper - so sorry that it wasn't your Freddy. Hope that the weekend brings you the call that you've been waiting for. Come on little Freddy - your family needs you back at home!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank goodness for this site and the advice we've received to date. So far we have managed to put up 200+ plastic posters around Petts Wood Southborough, St Mary and St Pauls Cray, Green St Green, Knockholt, Beckenham, Anerley Hill and Crystal Palace Parade. Has Freddy gone to ground? Is he wandering lost or worst, stolen. We don't know so we're trying to cover every possibility. Bromley and Orpington sorting offices have posters. Bromley Football Club have one too. Waldo Road Refuse Depot were helpful and have a poster in their canteen.Various Taxi offices and Ranks have taken them, as have builders merchants, cafes, pubs and smaller shops in different local parades. We are giving out A5 size posters today in Bromley High St. and asking people to put Freddy's details in their car windows so as they travel this weekend, we reach areas we may not have postered yet . My husband and daughter visited Battersea today and saw a Russell almost identical to Freddy except he had white front paws!!!!Have placed an ad today in the News Shopper-really helpful and also an advert with the Kent Messenger for the next 3 weeks (if Freddy is sold further out). All of the Super Stores on Sevenoaks Way were helpful yesterday, they all took posters and we gave out flyers and spoke to customers as much as possible. We have been in the Park and Woods 6.30am every day since Fred went- Its alot quieter to hear without the surrounding traffic noise and after 9pm for the same reason. Freddy is noisy, loves barking and when its quieter it is easier to listen for any sounds of distress. We take our other two dogs searching too. Thank you for this site and the very kind calls and emails received to date. I will keep you posted. We are determined to bring him home and then I will spend days driving round with Fred recovering every poster! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Baggy Dog, thanks for posting with further suggestions and for spreading the word about Freddy. I spoke to one of the owners last night and they have already distributed many, many posters. They are visiting Battersea today and are also postering supermarket car parks. A missing ad will also be appearing in next week's News Shopper (circulation 300,000+)and possibly 2 other local papers (The Bromley Times and Bromley Extra). Owners, hope you managed to register successfully. If not, let us know so we can help. When we spoke, I forgot to mention mini cab offices (ask them to display a large poster) and, if they agree, leave a number of smaller posters on the counter for the drivers to keep to hand in their cars and for customers to take. Also, have you contacted the local Safer Neighbourhoods Police Team? I have a recent publication at home that was delivered to many homes in the Borough of Bromley and which lists all the Teams, as well with contact numbers. Give me a call if you need this info. Hope the lovely weather we are having today will help with the search for Freddy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to hear about Freddy. Great advice from Milly's Mum (as usual!) My only other suggestions would be to leaflet all the houses that back onto the park (Southborough Lane, Blackbrook Lane etc.) Also leaflet all houses between the park and your home, on your regular route. Posters are essential, but if people have a leaflet through their door they can call you straightaway if they see him. Another thing that worked for us in the past was to give a mini-flyer to each dog walker you see - either on the street or in the park (try to get out at all times of day into Jubilee Park so you catch people who walk at different times). Tell everyone you see about him and try to enlist their help in finding him! I heard earlier that a poster was displayed at St James school and I'll give one to my friends to display in the Last Chance Rescue shop, in Chatterton Road. Try and get as many posters/leaflets out as possible before too much time elapses just in case he decides to go exploring further afield! Good luck with the search - hope he comes home soon. So sorry to hear Freddy is missing. First and foremost, poster like mad - 100+ posters for starters. If you don't have access to a laminator or it is too expensive, buy a bumper pack of the punched pockets (often the supermarkets do the best deals). To give them better protection against the weather, put the posters in so that the opening is at the bottom (you can also seal the opening with waterproof, clear tape). Speak to local postmen and visit your local sorting office and ask them to display a poster. Also try to 'collar' the local milkman and ask him (or her!) to keep a poster of Freddy to hand. Pubs are also good place to target. Try to visit them early lunchtime or early in the evening when they tend to be less busy and ask the manager to display a poster of Freddy. Speak to as many of the regulars/customers as possible as they will have plenty of good contacts and will be a mine of information. Display Freddy's poster in your car(s) and ask family, friends, neighbours, other regular dogwalkers and work colleagues to do the same. I recall you have avery good and popular pet shop in Petts Wood. Make sure you ask them to display a poster. If you have access to the internet, make sure you register and post regular updates so that other Helpers in your area know where you have covered so that they can target other places. Thanks MicrochipMe and caryn for your suggestions and help. Personally, I don't know Jubilee Park and so appreciate any local knowledge. Owners I will give you a call, hopefully this evening. In the meantime, good luck!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh No this is where my dog went missing from, she was found safe and well though so lets hope we have the same outcome with Freddy. You may find that he is in the wood part of the park, make sure other people walking in there are told, the majority of them are very helpful. Also speak to people at Southborough Lane Stables as they will be out riding now the nights are lighter. Fingers crossed he is found soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
