A GSD less than a mile away spotted and called Zeus, (it had to be him!) Sat and waited over 3 days off and on, very similar but much younger. A special thank you to the young lady for still looking for him. There is a bloke walking a GSD on a rope, around 5 ways, near Greenside lane and Market Street. (3 different people in the 1st week of Zay-us going missing said they had seen a GSD on a rope on fields near to where mine went missing, thinking it might be mine due to no lead but I never got to see this bloke or the dog! TY sepantine, I've had to do posters for me really because I'm begining to get confused to which dogs have been reported missing here to the ones I've seen a few times on my visits to MDH. Can't believe how many dogs go through there and yet nothing to say there missed. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MEN won't do 'lost dog' stories unless there's an interesting angle to them. You could contact them- make sure you phone the newsdesk direct (e-mails will just get rejected) and say you have a usual story with an unusual angle. You have to SELL it to them..something along the lines of: 'Local dog owners are concerned by the number of dogs stolen and mising from the Manchester area recently. Three German Shepherds- all male, have disappeared , along with two female pedigree pugs, a long-haired Jack Rusell dog and an English Bull Terrier dog. All these dogs have gone missing within the last month, most within the space of a few days., If you think you have seen these dogs, or if you have any information that might lead to their return please contact Doglost (www.doglost.co.uk) tel 01302 743361 Give the MEN the story as I've written it (used to be a journalist) and get the photos. Ask then to do a photospread. Contact HQ first, as they may want a quote. Good luck!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Received a phone call yesterday from a person in Dukinfield who handed in a skinny, dark, long haired GSD to the DW on sunday. Went MDH but it was not there. Does anyone think this could be the same dog my son and I was looking for on the same day but in Droylsden, or would you think it was 2 different dogs. They sound like the same dog. Thank you for your help and support, I wrote to the M.E.N. again, asking to let us know at least if they got my first letter, anyway its been returned as failed, which I didn't get when I sent my 1st letter. I will ring the news desk tomorrow to see if they got it or not. My ad for him is going in the next 3 issues of the weekly Tameside advertiser, as, STILL MISSING. My daughter and I did 10 trees at Eastlands Asda with laminated posters. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Can't get through to windyways org, will keep trying, thank you for your help. A very thin and scruffy GSD was spotted yesterday near Edge Lane, came up from Buxton lane and was heading towards Openshaw. Because of the one way streets, they were unable to keep up with it. I searched all the streets and went down by the canal, asked people about and again nothing. Not heard from M.E.N, they haven't even replied to say they received it. My laminated posters are ready, so I'll be out tonight replacing all the damaged ones. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There's a 'Found' male GSD on the Windyways site., with a good photo. www.windyways.org. They are in Macclesfield. It doesn't look much like Zay-us, but check it out. Who knows. Good luck. Come home, Zay-us...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went MDH on Wednesday, again no luck. I've postered the main road outside Sports City, the weather was awful, not sure how long they'll last, getting close to the B of the bang, noticed a office supply shop, ordered laminated copies that will be ready on Monday. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sightings have stopped and my phone has gone quiet. Wrote to MEN weekly news to see if they will feature Zay-us, just waiting for a reply to see if they find my story interesting or not. Main feature being a RTA of a GSD killed on the 9th March. I only know of this through a couple of calls from people who have seen my posters. Zay-us has been missing now just over 5 weeks. I've also decided to cut my visits to MDH just down to once a week, it's hurting me to see so many lost or abandaned dogs and disappointing to not see my dog there. Paper boy has said he'll delivery my leaflets (500) to all the houses on his and his mates paper round this week (Tameside advertiser). Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is so frustrating for you, all these sightings when all you want is Zay-us home.Keeping fingers croosed for him . A lot more people are alerted now. Those you spoke to yesterday at the Texaco garage etc will tell others. Hurry up Zay-us and come home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

At 6pm a neighbour reported to me a GSD running about St Albons Avenue, Hartshead Estate, Ashton-under-lyne, where her husband is working, it has been seen about, over the last couple of days, has a blue or grey fabric collar on. I went to nearby fields, drove the streets, asked people and got nothing. Had a few missing leaflets in the car, so asked a handful of shops to display and then got a phone call to say, they had seen the dog at around 2pm, again at 9.30 pm at Texco garage, barking at people, it then went up Lees Road, heading towards Oldham (then my poster). I was there about 15 minutes later. Again shouted in nearby fields, streets and again nothing. I've got a number from someone who lives local who have said if I get another call for that area, ring her and she'll go to where it is within minutes. (I don't know the area). I spoke also to a young girl who said she saw it yesterday in a park (forgot the name of it now) on its own. So far all sightings of GSD's that I have seen have looked nothing like mine but they have been GSD's. I'm hoping who ever this one belongs to is caught and kept safe until it's reunited with it's family. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you everyone for your help and advice. Sport city is only about 15 mins away, i'll have ago at that with posters. It's 4 weeks today since Zay-us got out, I walked the streets and fields last night, lots of people coming home from a night out, spoke to a few, some knew about him and some didn't. Some thought he had been found because my posters had been removed. A GSD was running about on Manor road fields (3am) but it wasn't mine, met the owner and asked did she know of any brown labs, she didn't but knows of a black one and will speak to owner to see if it's been out on it's own and then thinking about it she recalled she hasn't seen either the owner or dog for a few weeks now! Thank you serpantine, was thinking of trying to get something going in local rag, just waiting for frineds help. Were aiming at all vets this weekend, hoping someone will have taken or about to take him in for his eye infections that were not clearing up wiith salt water and over the counter medicines. He wasn't in MDH, there was a couple of GSD's but none that are reported missing. Doing door to door flyers round Droylsden centre this afternoon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

tab64, I was going to ring you last night but it was too late. I've contacted Selby Police today and they say the found dog is not a full GSD but maybe collie cross. He has been picked up the Selby DW 07970595199 who was not on duty but due to the dog's size picked him up out of hours. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Been trying to contact Selby number but it's a BT answer phone. Do you think they'll add a picture at sometime, state if it is male or female or if the dog has a micro-chip or not? I know collars can be removed but Zay-us had a colbat blue fabric and chain collar on. The description so far sure sounds like him! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I want to take a moment just to say, thank you! to everyone who is helping with my search for our Zay-us. After my visit to M/cr dogs home tomorrow (good Fri) I will be replacing my posters that have been removed or damaged. A couple of things I forgot to mention about him is, he could be mistaken for a female due to bad hips (he very rarely raises his back legs) and he would have approached or chased other animals. He also had sticky eye infections which he was receiving treatment for . Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I Live in Hyde so not too far from Droylsden. I have horses that are kept + ridden around the countryside near to the main motorway network, so will keep my eyes peeled incase he has been transported near to us via a passing car! Try ringing Tameside Animal Shelter + Millstream Animal Shelter to see if they've heard anything, if they have picked him up or he's been taken there they will automatically scan for a chip-so fingers crossed he'll be home before you know it. Also ring The Advertiser, I believe they run ads free for Lost + Found. xx Lindy xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

On work tonight at 7pm (PetMedics). Will check our records to see if ZAY US has been picked up by us. Owner should contact Tameside Council 0161 342 8355 they use WDS a Private Dog Warden Service who take all stray dogs direct to Manchester Dogs Home 0871 918 1212. Owner best to call at MDH in person due to the amount of dogs brought in each day. Owner can also contact Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050. Good luck, KnoxyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
