Is there any chance this may be totness, this looks like a grand not a petit. http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog-blog.php?dogId=78348#.VGfGwmfbVkg 15 miles away?
Unknown
The two dogs at Capricorn are known to breed rescue and are not connected to Totness. Sadly we have had a few BGVs who have never been seen again and unfortunately it's the nature of the breed. But, thank you CorbiereW, it's always worth checking.
CorbiereW
Really sad there was never a sighting of this guy. I thought of him as two GBGVs have just turned up at the Capricorn Dog Rescue - owner hand-ins due a divorce (they say!) but in a pretty neglected state, so I just wonder if the story is to be believed.... The male is about 9.

It has gone very quite on here!!!. Postering everywhere is the key and of course taking a peep at the local Traveller camps. I have been sending out many Posters to various Vets etc, but the owner's of missing dogs in this area should get together so that more ground could be covered ( perhaps they have already but not much evidence on here) please type SW and get a list of missing dogs in our area you are not alone! Please also take a look at Whizz, Patterdale, SW, they have been working really hard to get him back and some very good leads could be used from there. Come on these dogs are out there somewhere.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

bit of a long shot but my 2 PBGVs came from Plushcourt, a breeder in Faringdon which is only about 25 miles from where Totness went missing so have emailed his details to them. They don't breed GBGVs but might have heard something on the BGV grapevine (if there is such a thing!). hope he turns up soon!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

PS I presume the owner has asked whoever organised it to check discreetly on all attendees at this 'rabbiting pack' meeting he attended? Or provide him with a list? Just a thought... since it's odd such a large and showy dog could vanish into thin air like that!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So pleased some postering is being done at last for these Wilts dogs. Don't forget to hand them round at pubs etc. Also if possible take them all to the next local Point to Point which is on Saturday - see Whizz's page for detailsLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Will do Greylady! just checking in to see what news of Totness - desperately need some postering for all these dogs down there, nothing else is going to flush them out. If someone would pay my b&b or put me up I'd come and help, but hard on a pension to finance myself!! Mind you, there are so many missing dogs - all of a 'working' type' hmmmm - in the area that the owners really must get together and hatch a plan. We can't do it for them! Good question what is going on down here??!!! There are 2 Patterdales, 3 Border Terriers, a Yorkie and Totness all missing from a very close area. I would urge all the owners of these dogs to get in contact with each other and work together! However I have to be blunt and say that I know that has not yet happened, which to be honest I find extremely disappointing!!!!!! Totness' owner is not local, but he believes now that travellers may have got him. I will request for him to be featured in Countrymans Weekly in the hope that that may flush him out. Postering??? I think the owner is relying on word of mouth and to be fair has put the word around everywhere he can think of. But I think postering has been a bit lacking................Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I can't believe after all this time there has not even been a sighting of this dog - means he must have been picked up quite quickly by some unscrupulous person... If only he'd been chipped! What's going on down there Greylady? Any postering?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No new sightings of Totness since the night he went missing, which is 3 weeks ago. Owner is checking with the Highways dept and National Rail enquiries, to ensure all bases have been covered. He is very grateful for everyone's help and all the efforts which have been made to help him locate Totness. Owner feels that Totness may have been picked up and taken out of the area by someone, so please vigilant DL peeps, look out for Totness in a dog pound near you ~ he could be anywhere!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think there is a definate need for some local postering to be happening here!!! Totness' owner has been very busy with getting out and talking to farmers/vets etc, but says he hasn't had any calls about Totness.............Totness wasn't wearing a tag, and so maybe no-one knows who to call if there aren't posters up! PLEASE is there ANYONE in the area whocan help with putting up posters????Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I was only suggesting the dog get called by the name of the breed it is...because a LOT of people do know what a GBGV is and some DO work in shelters and vets etc and they can only search doglost under the name of the breed if she comes their way...if she's not listed under that name they'll assume she's not on doglost and look no further. If they don't know the breed they won't be looking it up under any name so it wouldn't matter. But obviously what the owner wants goes...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from Delly Everard, Wessex area Countryside Alliance: " Sure thing. Will put Totness on the grass-e-route". This means Totness's details will be emailed out to 1000s of huntin, shootin, fishin, farming people locally. I am discussing btw with Eastern region CS the poss of doing an article for the nationwide CA grass e-routes on dog theft, also of having regular use of this facility to publish missing working dogs - will be in touch with Admin when my contact has spoken to HQ. Sorry I can't do that... By the way I entirely agree with the other posters about the categorising of this dog - if you look up for a 'Grand Bassett' it doesn't show. It's NOT a Bassett hound!! and there's no such thing as a 'rough bassett' - owner should be persuaded to change it imo...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is there any update on what owners have been doing? I think the first link I psoted below is a better eg of a working dog than one on poster - but important if poss to get photo of the actual dog. I'm compiling of list of places eg the George Vet practice in Malmesbury to email [I used to live v near Sherston so know the area]. Suggest they blitz Malmesbury and Tetbury, local shopping centres, and all vets there, also put poster all along the Fosseway, very popular with dog walkers, ditto local pubs. Lots of shooting people around there - how to access them as a network?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The police & most people would not recognise the breed. Some don't know the Griffon to start. Been simplistic I can see Totness been described as anything from bearded collie cross to unknown mongrel. I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the owners or helpers- far from it. Until joining Doglost I'd never seen or heard of this breed or a bouvier de flander. I'm sure because of him been so unusual he will be picked up & fairly quickly- I just wanted to make sure all angles especially with the description were covered. Even with the best intentions he may not be recognised Stay safe TotnessxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Your average shelter staff will not search under Rough Basset...isn't there a danger she might not get reunited if she stays being called that? Personally, if I picked up a dog like the one in the photo, I'd only look her up under GBGV...they are so distinctive. So maybe an actual photo of her is needed sooner rather than later if she is so very different?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
