Laurence has been posting this:

"Sadly today on his 13th birthday the beautiful boy has passed on, he's gone peacefully in his sleep, being held by me wrapped in towels that have his whole families scent on, his gorgeous face kept all who was around him smiling to the end, we all did all we could it was a gift to him to let him go, he is suspected to have had a stroke the morning of his disappearance which explains why he vanished as it's so out of character, this being the case means even if he was found earlier he wouldn't have been the dog we remember, he still survived for 5 days which is testament to his fighting spirit, he's not the kinda fella that would like to get old and senile, so it's fitting his wrong turn happened quickly, We are so grateful for his 13 strong years, he's been a brother, a son, a best mate and on occasions a doggy, to have met him is to adore him!
The support everyone has showed is humbling, we will not forget that.
Rocky: Sleeping but always awake in our thoughts! "

This wonderful tribute says it all, nothing more to add :( Last edited: 2017-08-28 17:16:23

I'm sure Laurence will appreciate everyone's kind comments and messages. He's in a poor internet reception area at the mo so may not be able to post anything for a while.
Many thanks to all who helped search for Rocky. It's made a huge difference to Laurence and his family at a very difficult time.
As soon as there is any update on Rocky's condition I'll let you all know.

Please could I ask anyone who sees posters up to take them down as the family are obviously concentrating on Rocky and his recovery now. Thanks again.

Just had a call from Laurence telling me that Rocky has been found. Unfortunately he's not in a good way but is currently at the emergency vets getting treatment.
He was heard by a householder behind a fence of a garden in the Harrow Lane area (Westfield side of the Ridge) This kind person went around and over the fence and then carried Rocky back to his house. Luckily they had seen a poster so they were able to call Laurence straight away. I'm so thankful that there was a poster near to the finder's house!
Thank you so much to that lovely person for caring enough to go over and get Rocky. You have done a very kind thing for Rocky, Laurence and his family.

We have no idea how Rocky got to that area but he must have crossed a couple of roads to get there and we also do not know how long he had lain there. He's very dehydrated and it seems he may have some sort of injury to a leg but is getting vets treatment now.
However, it's obviously very much touch and go for this brave lad and I know that each and everyone of you will be routing for his full recovery.
COME ON ROCKY, YOU CAN DO IT laddie.
Tracy
My husband is out looking for him now, keeping everything crossed he is found safe and sound. Barry walked from Battle Road water tower for about a mile heading towards the A21, but unfortunately did not see Rocky x

So disappointing that there has been no sign of Rocky yet. Thank you very much to each and every one of you who have been helping with the search for Rocky. Also for the invaluable help printing the posters.
As it's Bank Holiday we are hoping that someone has taken him in and does not know that our Dog Wardens are available over the weekends, Bank Holidays and evenings in this area (Hastings, Weald & Rother) & can be contacted on 01424 490034. If this is the case and the person is not on Fbk then they should call them on Tuesday morning.
Until then it's important to keep searching and also to poster areas further out of Hastings as he could have been taken to another area by now.
Laurence, it would be wise to let Shepway Dog Wardens know (https://www.shepway.gov.uk/environmental-protection/dogs-and-problem-dogs/lost-or-missing-dogs) as they cover from approx Rye area. There's an out of hours number on that page but I think they take any found dogs to kennels until they are open again.
It's also possible that Rocky has wandered off much further than expected as he's obviously still quite active so could be in a completely different area.
I've advised that posters would be best put up in places where lots of people will see them such as entrances to footpaths/car parks to all the woods in the area, along footpaths. Also have suggested taking them to taxi companies, post offices, bus stations, pet shops, farm shops and giving to any drivers you see delivering in the area etc.
Let's hope that one poster brings in a sighting so we know where the lad is. Last edited: 2017-08-27 10:04:54 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

I walked my dog through the woods this morning (which are new to us) from the Moat Lane entrance on the A21. Unfortunately no sign of Rocky, although I did see posters around. I really hope you get some good news soon.
Laurence Allen
Hi guys thank you for your empathy and concerns, unfortunately there has been no news at all, there have been a lot of dog walkers in the local woods who's dogs haven't found anything, of course we shouldn't give up the search so anyone who can get into woods between beauport battle woods and Westfeild village would be really helping especially if you have a dog, I think unless he's injured or worse then he'll be with someone as he's such a sociable dog, and as he's without a collar maybe who ever has found him is unsure what to do and is maybe waiting till after the bank holiday to bring him in, so also posters in public places are really important, they'll be lots at my dads place at 41 redwood, beauport holiday park so anyone that can pick some up and put tham around that would be great to! Thanks again guys,
DogLostSpringerMad - Area Volunteer, East Sussex
Sorry to see Rocky is still missing. Lots of shares on fb going on, so the word is spreading. I have been unable to assist in searching but have been passing through the area and keeping eyes and ears out for Rocky. I really hope he is home soon.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Have just met with Laurence and his parents who are Rocky's owners. There is a 2nd telephone on the page so please use this if not able to get an answer from the 1st one. As the search area is mainly in the woods around the holiday park there's poor reception.
I have put a poster up in Senlac vets and Rocky is registered on their missing list as well.
Unfortunately, probably due to short notice, only a couple of people came to help look for this lad this morning but I know that a lot of local people will already be out walking and looking for him rather than join an organised search. Thank you so much to them and especially those who met with us. It's greatly appreciated.
Please bear in mind that Rocky could be anywhere now.
It's quite possible that someone saw him on the morning he was lost and as he had no collar on they may have taken him in thinking he had been abandoned. Or maybe because they are not aware that our Dog Wardens are available in the evenings and at weekends. It has been known for people passing through the area to take a dog back to their own home and then wait to report finding them after the weekend. So please share far and wide in case this has happened. Many thanks to all who are helping share and search for Rocky.
Come on Rocky, please show yourself so we can get you back home.
Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
Running a bit late but will meet with you Laurence. Your mobile is going to voicemail so I expect you are already searching. However, it's important that anyone phoning in with a sighting is able to get to talk to someone. Please would you add a 2nd number to the page (can be landline or mobile) Many thanks

Wishing everyone all the luck in the world in the search for lovely Rocky. I live too far away to help, but will be with you all in spirit, and pray hard for his safe return. Paws xd,

Hi guys so the new theory is Rocky bolted at 4am Wednesday having got caught up in the scent of deer mating season, he's very obedient but deer are his weak spot, so we believe him to be alive but very lost. So we'll begin a search tomorrow at 9am at beauport holiday park Hastings if anyone is around to help either flyer or search the woods we'd be forever grateful, I'm on 07920157929 if you need any other details Last edited: 2017-08-26 01:35:29 by Laurence Allen

Well done Laurence. Yes we have good helpers in Hastings and there have been plenty of shares for Rocky. Also had a some people asking about the search tomorrow. No idea how many will be able to come and help but hopefully a few to help poster and search.
For those who would like to help
PLEASE MEET 8.30-9am by the Beauport Holiday Park office (at the front entrance off the main road)
Many thanks.
Hope that Rocky will be back home before then though. Come on Rocky, time to go home lad. Last edited: 2017-08-26 01:30:26 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex

So sorry to see that Rocky has gone missing. I have sent out our Doglost advice emails and had a quick chat with Laurence about how Rocky was lost.
Turns out that although elderly this lad is quite fit despite his age. Laurence feels that Rocky is probably in the Beauport Holiday Park area but that's a huge place so he's currently putting posters up and searching there. I have said how important scent items in the garden are so Rocky has something to head back to if he can catch the smell of them.
Also that it's extremely important to get as many posters up in the area as possible as that's how sightings will be reported to him.
I will leave Laurence to give us more information about Rocky when he has the chance. The more we know about him the better we can help with the search.
Fingers crossed this lad has just gone after some deer (loads in the woods around the holiday park) and will make his way home very soon. Last edited: 2017-08-25 17:45:11 by Clarkey - Area Co-ordinator, East Sussex
