Benji was seen again this evening back on the old Railway line, Karen has scented there and laid a meat trail, but it started raining very heavily. Bed and food left in hedge for him.

today he was seen on the old railway line behind Glamis Castle to the east of the road from Kirriemuir to Glamis. He then ran up into the woods immediately south of the railway line and not seen again. I walked home from there along the old railway line all the way home, dragging an old pillowcase with raw meat in it.

from Facebook - Benji has been seen going into Glamis woods. Spotters all around the area. They are being quiet, calm and keeping any of their own dogs on leads.

Further to my comments below regarding scenting, perhaps the best scent trail would be from a recent sighting point to the dismantled railway, then along the old track to home. A long way I know but I believe just a light sprinkling of the scenting agent should be enough if the weather is fair. You could also try putting the contents of vacuum cleaner in an old pair of tights and dragging along the track. As far as I can see, the old track goes under the A928 so should be a safe route.Last edited: 2016-12-17 13:20:52 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland

Karen - dogs are believed to travel in a triangular route when lost. Am I right in thinking that Whitegate, Charleston and the sighting "off road to the north of the River Dean" roughly mark such a triangular route? It may be he is travelling the route looking for a scent to follow home. If you have not done so already, place his bedding and an item of your recently worn (unwashed) clothing, somewhere safe outside your house (if you could hang an item of clothing on a washing line it will also catch the wind and the scent will get carried further). Contents of your vacuum cleaner, or owner's urine, both diluted in water, also act as a good scenting agent, and you could perhaps lay a safe scent trail from the nearest point on Benji's route to your house (subject to there be no hazards e.g busy road to cross).
If there is one point that he has been sighted at on more than one occasion, you could as an alternative place his bedding and scenting agent at that point with a bowl of water but you will need to check periodically to see if he has visited the spot.Last edited: 2016-12-16 22:00:09 by GeoffA - Area Volunteer - Cornwall, Scotland & Northumberland

on the evening of the 14th he was spotted within the grounds of Strathmore Estate close to the the east side of the Glamis to Kirriemuir Road.

during the morning of the 15th He was then spotted on the road heading towards Glamis Village, and then spotted off road to the north of the River Dean and he headed west. I spent a lot of time searching around there but we don't know if he kept heading west or if he may have doubled back. I live to the east of Glamis close to what is now a disused railway that connected Forfar to Coupar Angus. I hope he might want to use this to get home.
Karen
no signs today :-( Have ruled out Cortachy Road in Kirriemuir for now as nobody had seen him.
I've been concentrating on the old railway line that used to connect Forfar to Meigle/Coupar Angus and so keep checking out the area where he was last seen near Linross Road in case he crops up someone on the railway line or near it. My partner has been driving around telling EVERYbody, business, delivery driver etc that he can think of.
Lots of people have been out looking and I'm so grateful for their efforts.
