- Are you ready for a #Paddyupdate?!
Now that Christmas is well and truly over, we thought you’d like to hear how our little Paddy is doing…
Paddy had a fantastic Christmas and has enjoyed going on his walks with his companions. He spent Christmas day with his new family and joined in the festive spirit – he even had a little piece of turkey, yum.
One lovely little tale that we know you’ll like to hear is that Paddy has a fascination with collecting wood from the garden – he loves to bring it into the house and store it in the hallway!
Paddy is still having hydrotherapy at Essex Canine Hydrotherapy in Wickford once a week, so many thanks to their kind generosity.
He now weighs 8.4 kg and his fur coat has improved massively in condition.
Precious Paddy is such a character and full of life and energy. He absolutely loves water and has been enjoying his baths at home.
Paddy sends his love to you all. He asks you to keep your eyes peeled on this page near Easter time where he will bring you another update for you all to enjoy! - 2016-11-17 16:13 Unknown

Well the day has finally come! Paddy has officially left the building and gone to his new home! We are all sad and happy at the same time as we will miss seeing his face in the hospital everyday, but we are so happy that he is at a stage where he can go home 🎉💜🐶

- Paddy update...
Here is the #PaddyUpdate you have all been waiting for...
Today Paddy had a CT scan to see if his fracture had finally healed and we are all very happy to announce that it is great news for Paddy! The fracture has healed and we all couldn't be happier for him! He can now have his brace off and move around more freely.
As he was under the anesthetic, Jerry decided to castrate Paddy and also give his teeth a clean, so he has had the full works today!
Paddy will be ready for re-homing very soon and a lot of you have inquired about this already. We do have a number of serious options for Paddy which we are discussing at the moment and we will let you all know when a new home for him is confirmed.
Thank you as always for your continued support for Paddy :) - 2016-10-24 10:18 joenya

- Paddy update....
We wanted to bring you another #PaddyUpdate today as we know you will all want to know how he is doing.
Paddy has been very sleepy since his surgery, as he is back on strong pain meds to keep him as comfortable as possible. Today he seemed a bit more alert though and even wanted to eat some chicken, which is great! From tomorrow we will start allowing him short toilet breaks in the garden again, but he won't be able to walk around too much for now.

- Pupdate...
Paddy unfortunately had to go back into surgery yesterday. His mobility had been deteriorating, so our vet, Jerry, decided to do another CT scan to see what was going on. Paddy’s bone wasn’t healing in the way that we had hoped, so we carried out another surgery to try to reinforce the spine.
At this point, Paddy has a guarded prognosis as we don’t know how he will heal. We will continue to do everything we possibly can for him – we know he has all of your support, as always. - 2016-09-22 10:17 ClaireC

Happy Monday from Paddy!
He thanks you for all your kind words over the weekend. He is feeling very happy today and is starting to demand more and more attention from the nurses for cuddles. Today, he had a little bath after going out in the garden. Here he is having a cuddle with our vet, Jerry, who performed surgery on Paddy when he first arrived with us! - 2016-09-03 21:38 Unknown

Thank you all for your lovely comments for Paddy! If you liked that video, you will ❤️ love this one!
This is Paddy out in the garden today (before the rain!) Now we want you all to understand that he is by no means out of the woods yet and still has a way to go in his recovery.
BUT if you look closely you will see him move both of his back legs....on his own!! 😄😄😄 - 2016-09-03 21:23 ClaireC
- Brilliant. Shame no owner has come forward as yet.

- Here is your #PaddyUpdate for today and it's quite an exciting one!
This is a little video of Paddy from a couple of days ago. Silvia is supporting his legs for him, reminding him how to walk. He has to be carefully supported as his fracture is still healing. See how he gives our nurse Annabel a little kiss at the end.
Hope you can see the video.

- Update... and new photos with his teddy
Paddy received some fantastic presents today! He received a cute teddy and a very nice letter from a lovely family. We put the teddy in with him and straight away he took it in his mouth! He also received a nice brace, which Silvia ordered for him – this will keep him comfortable and make him more confident when we move him around. Today, he was able to be carried out into the garden for the very first time since he came to us, which was very exciting for everyone. Although we cannot allow Paddy to move around too much, little things like this will really help to keep his spirits up. Thank you for your continued support for Paddy. - 2016-09-01 18:51 ClaireC

- Paddy update today..
Here is your #PaddyUpdate for today!
As you can see Paddy is definitely getting his appetite back! We have been liquidising his food to make it easy for him to lap up and he loves it!
Today we have started to wean him off the strong pain meds he has been on and he seems to be nice and comfortable still. Our vets want him to stay nice and relaxed so he is on some light tranquilliser tablets to make sure he doesn't move around too much, as this could do damage as this early stage.
However, Paddy is in good spirits and wishes you all an enjoyable bank holiday weekend! - 2016-08-28 17:13 NickyB
- thankyou medivets - not all vets would treat an unowned dog - i have emailed them to give me some idea of costs as i would like to send cheque towards his care. with 5 rescues i am unable to offer him a home, but i somehow think he will soon be adopted

- Paddy update..
As we embark upon Paddy the Pooch’s journey together, we’d like to share with you another little update on how our precious boy is getting on…
Yesterday, he spent some time with our veterinary nurse, Silvia, who specialises in MRI and CT. She has made an extended physio plan for Paddy to follow which involves basic massage therapy.
Not much has changed since yesterday, but after another restful night’s sleep, Paddy the Pooch is coping really well and he is alert in himself.
This morning, Paddy had a clinical assessment with our vet, Sara, before spending time with the team of nurses. Every hour, Paddy is benefitting from basic heat therapy and massage therapy which aims to bring down any inflammation and increase circulation.
We are doing everything we can to make Paddy the Pooch feel comfortable, but we’d like to stress that it can take days to see any improvement (if any at all).
Thanks again to everyone who has shown so much love for adorable Paddy the Pooch over the last few days.
Whilst it’s so sweet and lovely to speak with you all on the phone about Paddy’s progress, we would really appreciate it if you could keep to our Facebook page for further updates whilst we focus on caring for him and all our other lovely patients. - 2016-08-26 20:00 Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer
- The vets treating Paddy have asked that people don't ring them for an update on his condition but follow his progress on their Facebook page, which is Medivet Hendon
- 2016-08-26 14:49 Unknown
- I agree Rose do hope Paddy makes it ok xxxx
- 2016-08-26 14:43 Rose
- Bless you Jerry for operating on Paddy. Everything crossed for a speedy recovery Paddy xx

- I thought others here would be interested to read the updates GillyP and Claire, especially those who find it difficult to view FB. We are all interested in the dog too. Finding the dog's owners and hearing about his treatment is surely part of that?
- 2016-08-25 22:29 Unknown
- Agreed Claire. The object is to find the owners. If people are in the specific area can you please cross post or put posters up. Speculation about owners and circumstances are not helping. Please only comment if you are directly involved with the vet giving treatment or you can help with either posters or cross listing to local groups. Thanks.
- 2016-08-25 22:11 ClaireC
- Can we just put comments that are pertinent to trying to find his owner rather than your own personal thoughts. People who may view this will lose track of the importance. Thank you.

- UPDATE from MEDIVET HENDON. A video clip-
Jerry the vet who operated on Paddy
Meet Jerry - our amazing veterinary surgeon who operated on Paddy the Pooch yesterday! Watch this video where he talks about how the surgery went. Thanks again for all your support!
https://www.facebook.com/medivethendon/videos/vb.292030964286881/679331278890179/?type=2&theater
For those unable to see this clip, he says that "Paddy" (as he is known here)is still very critical having had surgery for severe injuries to both spine and spinal chord. He is on a methadone drip and recovering from the anaesthetic well. He is having rehabilitation and physio every few hours. *Our fingers are crossed for him".Last edited: 2016-08-25 19:58:20 by Baydogs - 2016-08-25 19:35 csquaredb
- Another possibility is that he ran off from someone at Thurrock services, doesn't look that far away?
- 2016-08-25 19:30 csquaredb
- On their website, says free car park. There's evidently a park warden on site most days. Does anyone know whether they've been contacted? https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/davy-down-riverside-park/overview
- 2016-08-25 19:26 Baydogs
- Good point csquaredb. Does anyone know if this is a free car park or paying car park? If the latter no doubt a penalty notice will already be fixed to the screen.
- 2016-08-25 19:19 csquaredb
- If he was found in a car park and the thought is that his owner may have had a fall while on the walk, have the police checked that there are no cars that have been left in the carpark overnight? Paddy may have made his way back to his car?

- Thank you CJ.
I have also read that someone has emailed every vet in the area in case they can recognise him and therby link to his owner.
It could be that he ran a few miles before the accident but he doesn't appear to be ribby or dehydrated in the photos which indicates that he hadn't missed many meals, if any. His teeth are good too, which probably means that he has enjoyed a good diet or he is young,or a bit of both. His whole demeanor with those who found him and the veterinary staff indicates a dog that has been socialised and is used to a kind touch.
Good idea re the walking club Jot Cotswolds. Thanks for following that through ClaireC.

Paddy the Pooch had a very long day yesterday but he has been such a brave boy! Paddy has had a restful night’s sleep following his spinal surgery yesterday, and he has eaten some breakfast this morning. For Paddy’s next step, he will be spending some time with Silvia Boscolo Contadin, RVN (specialising in MRI & CT) who will do a spinal assessment on Paddy later today. Following on from this, Silvia will then look at an appropriate range of treatment, including rehabilitation therapy, shockwave therapy and physiotherapy.
We will continue to keep you posted regularly – thanks again for all your wonderful kind comments and support! Our colleagues have fallen in love with Paddy – you can see some pictures of him below whilst he was having his scan.Last edited: 2016-08-25 14:06:18 - 2016-08-25 13:40 skyninchar

- Great. When a dog is found with its lead on the chances it was lost in a walking circumstance is huge, and given that nobody is seeking the dog on facebook, twitter, with the local dogwardens etc, that adds to the worry. I've searched recent posts for all keywords such as ockendon, grays, terrier, davy down, essex, etc and there's nothing coming up indicating a dog lost with its lead attached. I can't see anywhere on the thread about the exact spot the dog was found. That roadside spot is vital info - as if the owner has fallen they may not be far away and that walking group could be given the location. Has anyone actually alerted the police to a potential lost person so they can check recent missing person reports and perhaps do a search?
- 2016-08-25 11:07 ClaireC
- Jot, i will ask someone in admin for you. Also, there is the possibility that someone may have been looking after him whilst owners are on holiday and dog has run off! Last edited: 2016-08-25 11:59:37 by ClaireC

- 2016-08-25 10:20 Jot cotswolds
- Given it was on a lead and collar it is clearly loved and cared for I'd guess. The chances the owner may have fallen are pretty good in that terrain if they are elderly. http://www.thameschase.org.uk/news-events/upcoming-events/discovering-thames-chase-guided-walk - this walking group have a walk organised for themselves at Davy Down tomorrow..Fri 10am...they could be used to help search??? - I was wondering about that too roughchops. This kind of surgery is expensive. I know I'd be willing to chip in though if that is the case. I have zoomed in on the collar and lead and they look smart and in good condition. I'm convinced this dog is loved and missed.
- 2016-08-25 09:06 roughchops
- It could be the cost of claiming him that is the problem, especially if it is an elderly owner. Perhaps we could help if we knew this for certain.

- Crossposted UPDATE from Medivet Hendon I hour ago-
"Today has been a big day for Paddy the Pooch – he was moved to our practice where we performed an MRI scan.
Straight afterwards he went into theatre so the team could operate on his fractured spine. The procedure includes decompressing and stabillising the fracture with locking plates. Due to the complexity of this surgery, Paddy is still in theatre.
The surgery will be finished later this evening – so far it has gone well, however the team will need to closely monitor his recovery throughout the night.
We will update you tomorrow. Thanks for all your support, we are sure Paddy really appreciates all your well wishes. Here is a picture of Paddy having a well deserved rest before his surgery."

- medivet update today =
"We are pleased to announce that Medivet will be providing Paddy the Pooch with the opportunity to make a recovery from his injuries. Medivet has been overwhelmed with the generous offers of donations from the public but will not be accepting these, and is happy to carry out all the necessary treatment at Medivet’s expense.
Paddy the Pooch will be transferred to Medivet’s 24 hour hospital in Hendon, where Medivet has an MRI scanner, a CT scanner and advanced orthopaedic surgical facilities.
Paddy the Pooch will be scanned so that our vets can accurately diagnose the nature of Paddy the Pooch’s injuries, before undertaking spinal surgery to treat Paddy the Pooch.
Paddy the Pooch’s injuries are serious and the chances of recovery are not high, and the treatment may not be successful, but even so, Medivet would like to give Paddy the Pooch every chance of recovery.
Paddy the Pooch will receive round-the-clock nursing and advanced pain relief before and after surgery in order to minimise any discomfort to Paddy the Pooch.
We’ll release periodic reports about Paddy the Pooch’s progress as we proceed with the treatment.
Good luck Paddy the Pooch! – we hope you make a full recovery and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for you!
Regards,
Medivet" - 2016-08-24 13:46 Nicky - Area Co-ordinator London, Home Counties & Police Liaison

Posted on the original link........Ok ladies and gents, its been one mad 2days, with the lil pooch that was hit by a car that failed to stop at davy down :(
I still cant belive the amount of attention he has received,
So medivet at canterbury parade in south ockendon took him in and made him comfortable asap, ive been keeping in contact with George the vet there and he has been absolutely awesome with the lil doggy (im just gonna name him "paddy").
About an hour ago i got a call from George about paddy, he said to me " we have moved paddy to Dartford medivet hospital and done more xrays on him and it has showm he has a broken spine and will be having an mri scan tomorrow followed by spinal surgery by there specialist.
He goes om to tell me.paddy is still eating drinking and on pain killers,
So i ask the question,
How much money do you need and when do you need it by?
George replied with - MEDIVET ARE FOOTING THE BILL,
I couldnt belive it
They cant belive the response and love they can see and hear for this lil dog,
Im going to see george tomorrow morning at the medi vet.
Il keep you all upto date
Just wanna take this opportunity to say thank you to each and everyone of you guys you have been great but this is only the beginning for paddy.
Thanks again guys your all 😇 😇 😇 😇 - 2016-08-24 00:03 csquaredb

- Yes Pat, that's correct - collar, lead and flea collar. That is why some of us are concerned regarding the owner.
As for the dog, I am reading elsewhere that he is being extremely well looked after at Medivet. I'll leave those who have been more directly involved to come on here and give an update. There has been an enormous amount of interest in this fella's welfare by some very kind people including the man who initially went to his assistance at the roadside. Just wish the owner could be located....but there are people working on that too :) - 2016-08-23 20:53 Patlucky

- Rose, good that you tweeted Essex police;older folk still believe that the police take care of lost dogs (they used to keep them in the cells)plus a reported possible missing person with their dog may tie the two together.
Thanks for the update Mandy. Here's hoping the posters will reunite this poorly lad with his owner. - 2016-08-23 12:43 Mandy

I share the same concerns as doglover and Walkieswithace- that the owner may be elderly, ill or injured themselves, or simply not have internet access. A few posters could unite them with their boy.
This lad is being so good whilst he is in pain at the roadside, I cannot help but believe that he has a loving worried owner somewhere. - 2016-08-23 00:05 Doglover
- SueD ...as an update, although originally thought he may have a broken pelvis this is not the case...I think it may be something to do with a disc.

- Must read that Davy Dkwn is a wooded area...I wonder if he belonged to an elderly person, who may himself have had an accident in the woods or who does not have Internet access to try and find his dog.

- Thats brilliant that the money has been raised so quickly

- It would appear from FB the dog has a broken pelvis and a Go Fund Me page has raised the funds for an operation to take place tomorrow.

Hiya, I've just spoken to the Vet where the terrier x has been taken, there isn't an emergency operation that can take place as the disc is damaged but no fracture to the spine. So, the dog is on pain relief and the Surgery thanks all those who have and continue to share the post as finding the dog's owner is very important. The surgery stress they will not be putting the dog to sleep, he has been made comfortable and they hope the owner will come forward. Now been taken to Medivets,
