Last time I spoke to Michelle she told me about the train driver that reported hitting what he thought was Cara but a body was never recovered. Michelle told me she has accepted that this must have been Cara so I am now turning her to blue.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just seen on another site that Cara's owner was informed by Network Rail that a train driver had hit a dog which was most probably Cara, a few days after she went missing. They are, therefore, sadly assuming that Cara is now at Rainbow Bridge. RIP dear Cara xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have read all the messages on here in relation to beautiful Cara and my heart goes out to her and her owner Shelly. As a christian and a love of Rhodesein Ridgebacks, i have prayed for her, and prayed she is at no harm and will be returned to you in time. I cryed because she looked so much like the love of my life - Nala, who passed away in April of this year aged 3.5 due to an agressive form of cancer.  But the not knowing, and wondering if you ever will know what has happened to her is the tormenting pain...... Has contact been made with the RRWT? They could also put info on their site. I pray and wish for her safe return. Bless her. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hey Shelley - please don't give up on your lovely girl - she's out there somewhere and her chip could bring her home to you at any time.  I know it is so hard, the not knowing and constant wondering what has happened to her, there's no closure and no end in sight.  I'm sure you have done everything in your power to find her but PLEASE don't give up hope, there are lots of us in the same situation as you and we can all support and help each other where we can.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Shelly, such a difficult call to make and I for one can totally understand your decision.   I've never had a dog go missing for anything more than a few hours and it's impossible to imagine how it must feel when there's a chance your dog is out there still.   However after all this time with no real news it does seem more than a possibility that something like that has happened to her.   It seems people go one of two ways after this length of time, either continuing to pull out all the stops in the hope that someone/something will lead to that magical moment, or with a heavy heart deciding to move their lives on.   It has to be an individual decision and you know it's the right one for you.   With very best wishes.   Sue xx    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I went down to have a look at this ridgeback this morning and it wasn't Cara, this dog was a lot darker colour.  We also had a call about a dog being hit on the track around the same time she went missing they e-mailed Animal Search and it seemed like a genuine e-mail. I was walking by the railway line when she saw the deer, so who knows I want to draw a line under it now and get on with my life. Thanks for all of the support. ShellyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi mumof4 no more sightings of Cara the last was on Washingborough Road but it wasn't her the lady said it looked like a ridgeback.  We picked up another ridgeback today he needed rehoming and the lady didn't want any money for him he's great 9 years old.  He gets on with the kids and our other dog I know Cara could turn up one day but we will cross that bridge when we come to it I miss her so much.  I will be putting another ad in the Lincolnshire Echo next month to keep her profile up.  Thanks for asking about her and I will keep you informed. Shelly has just called to say the police have been round to see her today. They will not give her a crime number as she didn't see Cara being bundled into the car but they are going round to question the people at Witham Park and they are going to distribute Caras poster around all Lincolnshire police stations. Cara's story will be in the Lincolnshire Echo either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Shell. Now that this new information has been disclosed it might be worth contacting Look North on 0113 244 1188. as  2 years ago they ran a story for us when a French Bulldog called Yogi, belonging to a little autistic boy went missing. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Shelly, first of all you're not allowed to give up on your beautiful Cara. It's much too early for that type of talk and what would Cara think! But apart from that, it's great to hear that people are reading Cara's story. The man with the blue Vetra and similar sounding dog is interesting. Did the couple also get the registration number? Of course, it all might be completely innocent but it would be good to ask all local visitors and dog walkers if the man, vehicle and dog are known to the regular walkers. Hopefully, if someone has taken a shine to Cara, this latest publicity will make her too hot to handle. Good Luck!!!

Hi Just to let everyone know that I had a call today from the ad in paper today.  A man and his wife were walking their dog in Whisby on 3rd April 09 and in the car park at about 4pm they saw a man trying to force a dog looking like Cara into a blue Vauxhall Vectra he was in his 30's wearing jeans a bomber jacket and white trainers. My husband is down at the police station now to see where we go from here. I hope we get her back soon I was about giving up again.  Thanks. Shelly. XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I have e-mailed the ad on stuff4sale site to contact seller, but no telephone number.  I had another look at the pic of the dog and I don't think it's Cara, neither does my husband I even asked the woman who we bought her off to have a look and she knew all the puppies and was definite it was not Cara.  I still think the sighting in Birchwood was her though.  I have asked for more photo's of the dog anyway just to follow it up you never know.  Thanks Jenny for your help.     Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thats a great pity Shelly when you have waited so long for sightings. You definitely could have done with keeping the scenting fresh and yes- food puting same place at regular times. If the man would help out with the food, and you have made a safe place with things from home, she will know, you will hopefully manage to keep her coming there. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I know we have to keep going down there, but we are away till Monday, so by the time we get back she could have moved away from the area anyway. I will text this man that saw her and ask his to take some food with him if he doesn't mind. Thank you again. Shelly xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Shelly - keep puting the scent down, and food, and please stay positive. A month is not a long time for a dog like this, but it may take a while, so please please stick with the food and scent laying. Also leave regular suppy of water. If its her, we do not want her to have to move far from that area. If you keep it up, she will know you are around, and will gain confidence that the food will always be there. Goodluck with this - you are doing well, and have lots of lovely people following this and rooting for you. Always someone here to chat it over with or get advice and support. You are never alone, and so many more owners in the same situation. Well done. Keep it up. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Just to give you an update I have been down to the Birchwood field have put up posters by entrances and left some sardines under a tree with some of our scent around the area, will try to go again later.  The bloke called my hubby last night to say that he will definitely keep his eyes peeled now because he goes there every day and he if he does catch the dog he'll take it to Home from Home Kennels.  I have been speaking to the lady we bought Cara off and we have become good friends, so she said that if the Kennels ring her she will keep Cara for us until we get back on Monday. Thanks for your help. Shell.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone my husband was out a while, he phoned for this guys number and he was in the wrong field. So he had a look round and spoke to some dog walkers handed out leaflets, but there are lots of entrances and exits so I'm going down there in the morning to put more posters in the area and some of her bedding.  A lady has been phoning me as well who lives not far away from me and a neighbour living at the back of her is a park ranger so he has told his colleagues to keep an eye open in all the parks in Lincoln. This bloke said that the dog was so close to him and he tried to grab the collar, he lives nearby so he will be looking out for her and if he he does grab her he will take her to Home from Home kennels.  I keep hoping it could be her touching wood all the time.  Thanks for your support. He has just dropped his dogs off at the kennels and that's where he got my number from a poster there. He said he tried to get the dog but it just ran off, so my husband was out anyway and he is on his way over there, the maybe gone but will have to get some posters and leaflets up over there.  Will keep you informed. mumof4- again- all your efforts are so appreciated. Sounds quite a resonable idea that Cara may have holed up in the woody area, especially if there is water, and likely to be waste bins to raid, and food droppngs. Perhaps you could look for a hedeyhole somewhere in there, where some food and dry bedding could be left? Perhaps beneath a fallen tree, and well back from the pathways and road. Will hopefully also get another sighting with more posters going up. Good luck, and glad you are feeling more positive today Shellie - this is just the best news, if its Cara - so try to gather things together that have your family scent on, like, bits of Cara's bedding, clothes that you have worn, smelly socks etc in case you could get them to the area to help keep Cara there. We need to set something up with food to keep her off the roads. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ashby Rd is the main road through the town and the Rugby Club is surrounded by houses and large secure fencing around the field, the entrance to the club/car park is off Ashby rd but its quite busy with cars i will call into the club house tom if i get chance and see if they have noticed a dog hanging around. Central park (the way the dog seen was heading) is a large green area with a fountain used by families and dog walkers and there are quite a few woods surrounding it so i will try to poster there tom.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Shelly did the lady who spotted the dog on Ashby road Scunthorpe give any idea of where abouts on the road she saw it? It's quite a long rd, i walked along it on Sat 11pm there are a couple of takeaways and shops that could attract a hungry dog so i will drop some leaflets in - i did spot a dog raiding a bin but it was a lurcher type dog (hairy) with collar and tag but couldn't get close to it. I imagine Cara is quite a distinctive dog so the breed would be easily to spot (i have looked at more pics of the breed on the net so am prepared!) If any sightings come in i am usually around so just let me know i could get to the area until you got over here or whatever! JennyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Shelly Have been following your quest to find Cara, and know all the emotions you are going through as we have those same feelings you have. We have Jacob our missing Bracco Italiano (Doglost ref 16735) out there, somewhere. he also went off after deer...He has been missing since January, so don't give up hope. The best piece of advice I can give you is to get the publicity, get the posters everywhere you possibly can. It's time consuming I know, but rally friends to help you and you can cover a lot of ground in a shorter space of time. For he most part, it's the posters that do the work EVERY time. If you (anyone) needs a list of rescues and dog orientated businesses, I have collected hundreds now and can drop the addresees to you in an email if ever you get to the stage of wanting to mass email everyone about Cara. Most of all we wish you the best luck in the world for finding your girl, she looks absolutely gorgeous, and I know how much you'll be missing her. Shout if you think I can help in any way. Shelly, we all know how difficult it can be when there are children, families and jobs to consider but please don't give up on Cara because, although it doesn't seem like it, it's still really early days. Tutridge's comments are spot on in that Cara's a big dog who will be missing her family, food and home comforts and so, she will start to show herself more and more. The latest sighting sounds very promising and so I'm hoping that this weekend will bring you the phone call you've been waiting for. Just put in as much work as you can in your search for Cara and I'm sure others will then realise how much you need her back home and will join in the search. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the advice and glad to hear you got your dog back home safe and well.  I will try scenting but I have young children one of which is autistic so it's when I have the time. I am trying to be optimistic, but I don't know how much longer I can go on.  We miss her so much and the children keep asking if I have found her yet. I phoned the local radio station again today about the sighting to refresh peoples minds. Anyway thanks for all your help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I have just got my boy back(Same breed), he had sore paws and started to slow down after ten days missing. Maybe your girl is now slowing down and is staying in the same area as Ronin did. Scenting works, it keeps them where you want them, then its just patience and being around when they are. My boy had had enough and just walked up to me! Sardines in oil works, very smelly. Don't loose hope and I look forward to hearing she's been found.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Shelly thanks for the update. Have been calling in here regularly for news. With so many outside events now, I would flyer all of them. Boot fairs, sports meetings, fairs, markets, etc - any gatherings at all, even the local churches and especially pubs, restaurants, schools, garden centres, and village halls. Anywhere you can think of where most eyes will see the posters and flyers. Eventually something will click with someone, and you will get a call. Cara could also have been picked up by someone who only visits the area occasionally, every few weeks etc, so make sure any posters that are tatty, are replaced, as sometimes people think the dog has been found. Thinking of you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have put more posters along the A46 where there was a possible sighting also went to a cattery today and gave some to the owner and she is going to keep an eye open.  She said there were a few travellers that live at the back of her and they seem to acquire dogs from time to time. I have been down to Whisby Park and took updated posters and leaflets. No more sighting though. CheersLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have spoken to Val at the Halfway House Rescue Centre near Collingham  and sent an e-mail and attached a photo of Cara. So she knows as well I have also left messages at the Rescue Centres in Skegness. I had a a phone call from a lady Phyllis from Washingborough who put me in touch with a dog groomer called Hannah in Mablethorpe and she is going to put out posters and leaflets for me too. Thanks.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Has anyone asked the rescue at Collingham, just outside of Newark?  They sometimes take in strays if Ingham is full.  There is also a pound around/in Skegness.  I'm sorry I don't know the numbers.
I've put the details on Animal Rehoming UK and posted on various dog chat lists etc.
I hope she's taking care of herself and that she will turn up soon.  Would she be trying to find her way home? Where is her domicile?
Is there a contact number if we get news of her?

My husband and I have been to Lincolnshire Rescue Kennels Clifftop, Ingam, to have a look round the place today and have given the lady some more posters and leaflets of Cara.  We have also put some posters along the A46 where there was a possible sighting of her and we've put some leaflets in a Motorcycle shop and Chinese Restaurant along that road as well.  Have also dropped off some leaflets and posters at Paddy's house. I will phone the Kennels in Nottinghamshire. Thanks.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

paddy - thank you so very much for coming forward and offering help. It would be absolutely brilliant if your members could help poster and hand out flyers. I have emailed updated ones to you. Anyone else wanting posters and flyers email me on yasa02@live.co.uk  - I agree with you about Cara. As a Ridgeback, she is quite capable of looking after herself and finding food and water, and if has a constant supply of both, she may well has found a place to settle. I would look around and ask people with stables to look around their barns, and outhouses for any indication she may have been sleeping there, or stealing food etc. Dogs often find any old stuff to eat at those sort of places. Also please make all farmers and gamekeepers aware we have a beautiful dog loose. There is still the chance she has been picked up, so owner is keeping in touch with the authorities. Thanks once again.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

just heard about cara yesterday...i'm a local dog trainer so I have loads of contacts with dog owners in the area (as far as newark) who can look out for her while walking their dogs and hopefully do some postering. Typically dogs can go quite a distance away from where they were lost, then 'settle' a bit in a new area where they tend to stick within a few miles radius. Assuming cara hasn't been picked up (possible of course) I would guess she has found somewhere to settle by now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message given to owner thank you Badger, but she should have the sheet of East Anglia contacts which she was sent at the start, and Lincs numbers would be on that. I do not have any Nottinghamshire numbers to give her though.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner has just rang me - She said sorry Ashmark, she couldnt reach you, - SIGHTING at last - but it was back on the 8th April, a dog matching her description seen on the A46 heading toward Newark at about 5.00 - 5.30pm. Owner said no fatalities have been reported in the area, so Cara could have been picked up,or may still be loose. It is doubtful she would have got into a car, as would have been frightened, but we dont know what may have happened. Have advised heavy postering at Newark and Lincolne towns, and all along the road, where it is safe, and cars would slow, or stop, like laybyes and garages. if picked up, it may be by someone travelling the route regularly. Put flyers through all properties that is possible, along he road, and business's in the towns. Tesco man just turned up with shopping, so he is going away with a pile of posters to give out on his rounds. Good idea now, to reposter supermarkets, animal feed stores and sorting offices in Newark and Lincolne. It is also possible that Cara may be trying to find her way home, as travelling correct direction. CARA IS ALSO IN THE NEWARK ADVERTISER, AND THE LINCOLNSHIRE ECHO TODAY,AND WILL BE IN THE YORKSHIRE POST TOMORROW. This is brilliant work. Well done and Good Luck ! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just spoken to owner. There have been no sightings of Cara since the day she went missing. She is convinced that Cara has been stolen so is going to poster further afield. There are a lot of fairs on at the moment so her and her family are going to visit them all. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken at length with owner, and given more advice. I think that if Cara has not been picked up by someone, and kept, that it is still early days and she is still in the area she was lost. Owners are going to try scenting and leaving food near to the car park, which Cara knows, and also the place she was lost from. They are also doing publicity via the newspapers, and ringing all the numbers they have been given.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Cara is still missing. There have been no sightings of her at all. Rangers are now saying there is no cctv. Owners are out looking now. Have advised them to check with the council  just in case she has been involved in a RTA.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a long chat with Cara's owner. There was a sighting of her yesterday in the car park but nothing since. There is cctv in the car park so have advised owner to go and ask the park rangers if she can look at it just in case someone has taken her home. Several people have been in contact and are giving her good advice. She was particularly impressed with the posters and flyers that Hazel sent. The breeder has been informed and is spreading the word. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
