Sorry I’ve not had a chance to get back to everyone individually, I am going home to eat, wash and sleep! but first, what happened?!

This week has been so scary knowing Skye was out alone, lost confused and afraid. He wasn’t seen save for a couple of immediate sightings after he had been spooked by the firework and run off on Sunday. On Tuesday morning he was clipped by a car and seen on the motorway, and we were concerned he could’ve been injured until we got the next sighting on Thursday morning, by which time we were sure he was desperately trying to make his way home. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes with a lost dog, late night and early morning passive searching and plotting possible routes of travel, as well as postering, updating and reviewing info online and keeping people informed. As per my update earlier, we had enough information by this morning to plan to trap him tonight. But Skye had other ideas! He was ready to come home.

I had a frantic couple of hours early this morning trying to take calls reporting sightings while I was also tracking Skye from a safe distance, and at one point had had him eating from my hand after he had run into a front garden. Unfortunately it was not enclosed and he became spooked again and moved off. Enter our turning point, Ian and little rescue dog Dylan! Skye and I were in a park and saw Ian and Dylan, who Skye showed an interest in. They were amazing and immediately joined in with “the plan”! Dylan, Ian and I spent about half an hour calmly on the move, preventing Skye from running into danger, while I spoke to Skye’s friend Scott who has his best friend Nelli, a fellow Romanian rescue dog, who we had known from day one was our best chance at capturing Skye safely. We also had help from a gentleman with two lovely tricolour cavaliers - unfortunately I didn’t catch your names, but again thank you for the part you played! While the three dogs kept Skye occupied, Scott rushed Nelli to the scene and Skye immediately knew his friends had come to save him he was so giddy and excited to know he was no longer alone, and while he was busy squealing with delight to see Scott and Nelli he was able to be secured.

Thank you is not enough for all of the fantastic people who made this safe capture possible in the most dangerous environment. Skye has been feet away from motorways, railways and horribly busy roundabouts and it could’ve worked out so differently, but the response from local people in reporting sightings, raising awareness and following advice has just been unbelievable. THANK YOU SO MUCH

Huge thank you must go as always to Skye’s amazing search team Donna Ryan, Mairmoo Moibach Deb Barry, Cathy Billington, Lauren Munro, who’ve been out in all weathers all hours of the day and night, sharing knowledge, expertise, equipment and support as always also Scott and Nelli for coming out repeatedly walking the routes in all weather, and all the local people who’ve been out walking keeping an eye out for Skye. To Laura Finnegan for help and support as always and Jan Major from DogLost for posters shares and updates. To everyone who has shared Skye’s information and kept him in your thoughts, and everyone who has called or messaged with sightings.

The heroes of the day are without a doubt Nelli and Dylan, and their amazing humans Ian and Scott. No thank yous will ever be enough for what you did to get this little guy safe today and I know his Mum is absolutely overwhelmed with what people have done for Skye.

We are in the area and working to track Skye and bring him home safely. We are so grateful for everyone’s cooperation. I appreciate how scary it is to hear that a dog has been clipped or spotted on a motorway but please can we ask people not to panic, and to continue to follow advice. Please call us if you see him and please stay positive, we have experienced people who will all do their very best to help to bring him home safely as soon as we can. Seems he was hit by a car on dual carriageway (lady in the car which was involved posted to say what had happened) and was later seen limping Jct 2 of M53. Poor dog.
