so glad to hear Elder is recovering well. The RSPCA is one of the richest charities in the country, so they are lying when they say they cannot afford more inspectors. My daughter wants to be one not sure if she's cut out for it, she might batter abusers!!! Maybe there is room for a band of concerned animal lovers to get together and patrol the streets....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still thinking of you Elder. So pleased that you are begining to get back to "normal". The emotional scars will take a lot longer, as we know from our own "rescued baby". Take care sweetheart, you will always be in my thoughts. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry, we were out of touch. Trying to catch up on work discarded when we could not think of anything else but Elder. He is so much better. and even a little plump. Still very nervous. Barks at any noises and welcomes the safety of his lead. Frightened of other dogs. The hair on his stump is taking a while to grow but he is our beautiful, gentle, loving boy. Thank you very much to everyone for the supportLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sylviehelene glad Elder is recovering well. Af far as the RSPCA are concerned maybe you should be asking the new Chief Exec Mark Watts why there are only 4 Inspectors to cover London at weekends. They will tell you that they cannot afford any more but they find the money for smart new offices and expensive computer systems!!! Love and Licks to Elder. Thank you for update Sylviehelene. So happy to know that Elder's external wound has now healed. Take care now beautiful boy, and as others have said, I do hope that we see some justice. I also worry about what will happen to lost or injured dogs in the future. This government has a lot to answer for. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have,nt posted since Elder was first found but have been checking many times daily for updates. So very pleased to hear that your brave and beautiful boy is now much better. Hope with time and all your love Elder is able to forget this terrible ordeal he has been through and make a full recovery. All pets that go missing touch my heart and being a lab owner Elder has paticulary touched mine. There qualities make them the best friend you could have. My best wishes to you sylviehelene and family and i hope it,s not long before you see justice served to the people responsible. Lots of love and big hugs to you Elder. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Working hard to get our facts right so that the information we forward is correct, including regarding microchips Elder, much better. Tail has healed, waiting for hair to regrow. He is as always our kind, gently, loving friend. We can only imagine what he has been through. As from April, the police will no longer have anything to do with dogs. The RSPCA, at weekends, has only 4 inspectors on duty for the whole of London ??? Who will take care of our lost or injured pets?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Elder and Family, Sorry I hae not ben to your page for a few days but I have been thinking of you, sending again my kind thoughts for Elders recovery and his family also, No loving pet owner should ever have to go through the trauma that you have .I just wanted to say that I was so pleased to read the story of the officer who found poor Elder that day, Thanks to you, Elder is still with his family and I can see that he touched you so deeply that his love goes on by giving you the gift of dog ownership, I do hope that you have many years of joy from your rescue Lab.

Just to say Hi Elder, hope you are still well on the road to recovery. Still in my thoughts and prayers. Sylviehelene, it's the fact that Elder has a kind and gentle disposition that makes this barbaric act so unbelievable, and totally unacceptable. I hope that those responsible, are brought to justice. Well done that officer. If nothing else good comes out of such distress at least a dog has found a home... We have not had a chance to update but we are working hard to find some answers. Before we report, we must get our facts right. Elder is getting better and better. He is still very tired and we have to feed him soft food> His throat sore, maybe due to tube, during operation. He is quite partial to chicken casserole. Vet, at present, not too concerned We have established so far that we owe Elder's life to the Park police in Newham. Elder and owner will try to see the officer today. The system for processing of strays and injured animals at weekends seems to lack clarity. In the case of our dog's suffering, it occurs to us that there is no protocol in place as a reaction to an accute situation. Although his leather collar broke, we made sure he had a permanent ID with the microchip. Why wasn't this read for 24 hours? Thank you for all the kind messages Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sylviehelene - It will take time to heal your noble boy's wounds but with the love of your family and Matisse, Elder hopefully will be feeling a lot better soon. Re your question about the other dogs please see my post below. I didn't know that Elder was found at basketball courts. In my area there is talk that some basketball courts are being used by local teenagers for 'dog fighting' using their own dogs against 'all-comers'!!! It is being investigated by the authorities. I'm not a million miles away from you and it is making me wonder what the hell is going on. CCTV vandalised at my local ones too. May be me being paranoid or just a terrible coincidence but worth keeping in mind. If it is of any use to you, I have the surname, nickname and brief description of the person that supposedly organises the fighting in my area. Please pm me if you think it will be of help. Sending Elder, Matisse and your family lots of love. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hope today Elder is feeling a tad better, you know he will not recover overnight but everyday is a day nearer to the time that this episode will be in the distant past. Our dear Elder, we feel, is making a remarkable recovery. Friends who see him now are shocked so a long way to go still. The operation is healing but still unconfortable. He sleeps a lot. We visited Plashet Park. The CCTVs are vandalised. We believed he must have been walked through an area turned into a garden and it was in the basket ball area where he was left. From the RSPCA website it appears that dogs have been found starving and mutilated in the Wantstead area. Could it be a connection? We have purchased 2 collars. The dog can not pull them over his head. Do you know about those? Thank you so much everyone. Your affection is well placed. He is kind and gentle soul Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have read Titania777 and FrankieB's posts and the RSPCA appeal, just what is going on here? Is this not supposed to be a civilised animal loving country that we are living in. These morons are not civilised and certainly not animal lovers. They are barbaric to the extreem. Just what are the police doing about this sad state of affairs? If docile animals are not safe on the streets, what hope is there for anyone. Who's to say that next time it may be a child? these evil B*****ds have got no souls. Elder, thank God that someone found you in time to save your life. I only hope that if something similar happens to the purportrators, they don't have the same luck as you. I hope that you are beginning to feel stronger, and that you and Mattise are enjoying todays sunshine. Will stop by on site later, to see if there are any updates on your welfare. Stay safe now baby. Love to you, Mattise and your family. xxx Millie and her Mum.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So pleased to hear the Elder is making a good recovery. Unfortunately, bearing in mind where this happened, I can't say I'm in the slightest bit surprised at what I have read. My friends live in the area and they have ceased to even let their not over-trusting GSD off the lead. A very sad state of affairs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Sylviehelene for the update. Fantastic that Elder was able to play with Matisse. Really has made my day. I'm sure that Matisse will be a great help to Elder for both mental and physical recovery (obviously I'm not overlooking yourselves here too LOL). I know I've never met Elder but he truly has a place in my heart now! HELPERS IN OR NEAR THIS AREA - PLEASE BE EXTRA VIGILANT. There have been a few horrific incidents recently and they seem to fit the same pattern. ALSO See Dog Lost News (on this page top left - above 'Please Donate') - RSPCA Needs Your Help. I also feel that these are not the work of just one person but a group or gang. Someone, somewhere must have information on what is going on. We need to spread the word and get this evil people caught NOW!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

there are a lot of words to describe the people who have done this to dear elder but none of them printable i hope the police catch them and make them pay strongly for this, but somehow i dont expect they will get what they deserve , just slapped wrists ,as in a lot of peoples eyes" its just a dog" ! perhaps they should be locked up with a few vicious dogs and see if they are quite so keen to hurt them .i am so pleased that he is feeling better and hope mum and dad are to love to you all ruthLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No words can express the way i feel about what has happened to Elder.I first read about Elder on tues.,i was devistated but had to go away that morning not knowing what had actually happened to him. I couldnt even post a message as i was so afraid you were going to loose him. I have just returned to read he is getting better by the day, still a long way to go ,but getting there, and i was so relieved having thought about him all week .The evil scum who have done this should NOT get away! The police have got to pull out all the stops on this and bring the scum to justice .By doing so they will show everyone that they do not condone cruellty to animals and put faith back into the general public that our police force ARE right there doing a great job acting for every single one of us - as in this case. This is an affairs of the heart case that should touch every policeman and women,so come on police force show us what you can do! What a few days of worry I have had over you Elder. What a time for my Broadband to go down!! The power of prayer and positive vibes seems to have worked for you. I just had to check on you before anything else. Elder, it seems that you are now on the road to recovery. Your physical scars will soon heal, your mental health may take a bit longer. I know this from my own dogs previous experiances, but I know that you have the most wonderful Mum and Dad, who will work with you at your pace. You will soon be back to playing with Matisse just like before. Stay strong and continue your recovery. As for the evil people that hurt you. Thank you so much for the update, can't write anything sensible 'cos I'm crying, but I think it's all been said. I did look in this morning and send a message but when I pressed submit it disappeared. I think you know anyway how much love and good wishes are being sent to you all. People that are cruel to animals are cruel people and have no value for life, no care for the pain they are inflicting, be it on an animal or another person. They don't deserve their place in this world, it would certainly be a better place without them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just wanted to let you know that I am sending positive vibes to Elder and hope that he makes a full recovery. It beggars belief that a human being (I use the term loosely) can do harm to a beautiful innocent creature. I know Elders physical scars will soon heal but the mental scars may take a lot longer. With a lot of tlc you will be able to regain his trust in humans and hopefully he will get back to his old soon. May the scum bags who did this to him rot in hell. Love to you and your family. Great to see an update on Elder although it has just made me feel so sad and angry that a part of me wishes I never read it. Why oh why oh why would someone be so cruel to such a beautiful, loving, defenceless animal? It utterly disgusts me and actually makes me feel thoroughly ashamed. Thank god there are still some nice, caring human beings in the world and Elder was found in time. Sounds like he is well on the road to recovery and I couldn't be happier for you. Thank you so much for the update - it is great to hear that Elder has started some normal things like chasing Matisse's ears - it must bring you some joy. I hope they catch whoever was responsible for this horrendous act. Unfortunately though even if they are caught it is unlikely they will get anything other than a slap on the wrist. Hope you all have a good weekend - at least you have him home with you this weekend - although not in as good shape as we all would have liked. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This makes me so sad, words cannot be used that would express what I would do the people who did this. These people need to be found and quickly before someone else's pet or child falls victim to them or indeed any stray animal. I hope the RSPCA pursue this with vigour and that a prosecution results. Have the RSPCA any other records of dogs found in this area in a similar state. I am so pleased that at least Elder has survived and that he is now on the mend with lots of love and tlc he will be back to normal in no time although without his beautiful tail. Elder is making excellent progress and is getting stronger. This morning he chased Matisse to catch his ears!! (it is his favourite game). We are on the road to recovery. When brought in, last Sunday, he weight 25kilos, nearly the same as the spaniel. Our vet confirmed that he was given first class care at the Ark Veterinary Centre in Goodmayes. We are most grateful to them. We understand a little more. He was found Sunday morning 10th February at 09.15 in Plashet Park in a disused tennis court. We are told: he was very cold, very nervous and he could have been there all night but it was not certain. A member of the public was kind enough to alert a Park Ranger who called the police. He was taken to the vet as the dog was obviously extremely ill and distressed. He was given level 4 care, rehydrated and put on intravenous antibiotic. The RSPCA were informed and took over the case of obvious cruelty the next morning. Unfortunately we were not informed until Monday morning at 11.11, that is to say 26 hours after the dog had been rescued. Why the gap? No reasonable explanation has been offered to us. We do not know when and by whom the chip was read. The police did not contact us. The dog was too ill to be taken anywhere except intensive care. We believe the dog had been moved by car to Plashet Park, probably by the entrance from Rutland Road or from Woodhouse Grove, sometimes between 7.30 and 9.15 on Sunday 10th. Does anybody know the area? Did you spot anything around that time? The police and RSPCA are pursuing their enquiries in this clear case of torture, starvation and mutilation of a docile, friendly, beautiful animal Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I finally managed to get on to the site, and Elder was the first dog I looked for... Get well boy, and stay safe [sure you will!]. This does need press coverage. Meanwhile did the police take some DNA from Elder's coat? I bet a match would show up from local villains... I hope a reward will be offered to catch these cretinsLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Continue to recover Elder, the thoughts of all decent people are with you and willing you back to good health. The person/people who hurt you should rot in hell, but not before a slow painful death! Been thinking about Elder and his family alot, so nice for the update and glad to here that his best friend will pull him through I'm sure. All the uncertainity and unanswered questions must be troubling you, but if anything is all too clear in this tragic story is that Elder has been so let down by the human race and in his luck, suffered at the hands of our so called beings but yet he is so lucky where it matters to have such wonderful besotted and clearly devoted owners who think the world of him. He is a lucky boy and he will pull through this. It is a honour to support such devoted dog owners and family and I wish you all the best. You have all definately touched the hearts of everyone. Get well soon Elder, bless yo all!!!xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm so pleased, so relieved and so disgusted all in one go, with all kinds of everything else thrown in. I can't begin to imagine how your family are feeling Elder. It's wonderful that you are making a recovery and I know your family and your best friend will make sure it's as comfortable as possible for you. You can see those bluebells can't you, you can smell the fresh spring air can't you, and you want it... it won't be long baby. Mummy and Daddy, take extra care of yourselves too, he'll need you both fit as fiddles with all the romping around he'll want to be doing. I do so hope you get some answers soon and maybe even get a chance to take something further for all dogkind. Willing you to have all the strength you need to see the next week through, with big hugs to you all. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much for the update. It must have been the last thing you felt like doing at the moment so it was very good of you to take the time. It is clear to see from your post that you dote on Elder and that you are deeply hurt by what has happened to him and I really truly feel for you. I do believe though that time, patience and most importantly your love, will help Elder make a full recovery, both mentally and physically. It makes me utterly sick to think that someone could hurt any animal and what Elder has been through beggars belief. I am crying while I type this, its just so upsetting. You just have to believe that what goes around comes around and that they will get what they deserve. I'm glad to hear that its being investigated and I hope whoever is responsible rots in hell. Stay strong, Elder needs you, and know that we are all sending our love and positive wishes your way. Give your beautiful boy a big hug for me (and his Spaniel friend too for being such a star). Thinking of you all, Jen xxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for all your support. Our boy is home. He was found in Newham in a tennis court in a Park. I am not sure of the name. A passerby alerted the police who involved the RSPCA and took him to the vet. We were told he had not spent the night there. This was on Sunday but we were not contacted until Monday late morning. Considerable imperfections in the processing of the fact, the dog was found. We do not know who read the chip: the police, the park keeper, the RSPCA or the vet? Why Newham? Why were we not called at the time? It is now an investigation for the police and RSPCA. Elder had his operation on Monday night and we were there including Matisse is spaniel best friend when he came around. It was hard to recognise our special boy. My partner collected him on Tuesday morning. Elder slept a lot and is ravenously hungry (good sign). He is frightened, bewildered and weak but they dote on each other, he will get better. This afternoon, I am taking him to see his vet for advice on the best way forward. We would like to reply to everyone in person and we will do so. I have printed the 14 pages of messages. Thank you We thought we had everything organised. He was on a lead, he had a collar, he is microchipped and it went all wrong still. He has now a harness as well as the lead. We are not letting either of them out of our sight. We are numb. Many questions are still unanswered. We will let you know in the next few days. Thank you Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Not much left to say but agree with everything everyone has said, particularly what is going to happen to the brainless morons who have, once again, let down the human race. Still, we won't dwell on that as all our positive thoughts must be directed at Elder and his worried family. I have been so worried about you, boy and am so happy to hear that you have 'turned the corner'. The thing is with dogs (and cats) that they don't worry like us humans and so Elder will just accept that his tail is now docked and that's that! They're sensible and leave all the stress to us humans. Keep it up handsome, brave and gorgeous Elder. Sending healing hugs and kisses to you and your family...xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It may be worth contacting the Hackney Gazette about this. If there is a nutter out there harming animals - and there were 3 attacks against dogs in Redbridge recently, not too far away, 2 of which were fatal - it must be worthwhile alerting the public. Seems to be a worrying trend. In Enfield at the moment there is someone laying poison, believed to be for foxes (why would you want to kill foxes, beautiful creatures?) resulting in 2 dead foxes, one dead dog and 2 injured. Everyone walking their dogs in these areas must remain vigilant.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Welcome home Elder, so glad you're going to be ok. Safe with those who love you. People who hurt animals are invariably the same people who hurt children and others who cannot defend themselves. Violence usually escalates, and thugs eventually get their comeuppance. Let's hope the next time they try their vile games, someone bigger and angrier is watching and waiting to deal with them. I wish you and your family all the best. What are the police/RSPCA going to do about this?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh Elder sweetheart I just knew, with all this love and prayers from us and all the love and care from your family and doggie nurses(!), that you could pull through. Get well soon sweetheart! So sorry about your little tail. Don't mean to taint your post but I hope those who have done this to you get what they deserve and 1000 times more, you really are the scum of the earth, not fit to walk the same earth as Elder!! Lots of cuddles and kisses to you and love to your family! Tracy x x x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So glad to hear this handsome boy is on the mend and home with the people that love him. I am so so sorry for what some human scum has put him through. It really does make me ashamed to be human. Why is there such hate and evil in some people. I truly hope they get what they deserve. I know what I would do to them. Sorry, should really just be glad that Elder is going to be okay but this kind of stuff that goes on makes me sick to my stomach. Elder sweetheart, wishing you a speedy recovery. Take care darling and know that no-one will ever let anything bad happen to you again. To Elder's owners, I am so sorry for what you have been through. Take care of your handsome boy and give him a huge kiss and cuddle from me xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the update. I cannot begin to believe how cruel some people can be to animals - it really does beggar belief. Words cannot describe what I would like to do to people who mistreat animals - but I think they should be treated in the same way that they treated the poor animals on which they inflicted pain & suffering. I really hope Elder makes a good recovery enjoys his life. Best of luck to Elder & his family. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So pleased to hear that Elder is home with his Dad where he belongs, but sick at the thought that this beautiful boy has been so badly mistreated and abused, and has had to have his tail amputated as a result. Words fail me. I can only ask why? Elder, you are safe home now with those who love you, and I hope your wounds, both physical and emotional, will heal with love, time, care and patience. So much love and healing being sent your way, from all over the country. It all helps you on your road to recovery. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jayne, thank you very much for your message. There's (mainly) good news. Elder was found late last night and has now been returned to my dad. Unfortunately he has been mistreated and has sustained such a serious injury to his tail that it has had to be removed. But we are very glad to have him back. Many thanks for your help. ........e mail from owners son. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As soon as we know anything, one of us will post on the thread. At present we don't know any more than you do, as Jayne has left it with Elder's dad that we will wait to hear from him. We do not want to disturb him at this stressful time, but Jayne said she would paste and email him a link to the thread so he can read your good wishes. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

try METRO paper and the ES. They are read by EVERYONE. I only moved from London last year, but remember another free paper and the name has gone out of my head.....what about the ES stalls - are there any near where you lost him? Those people KNOW AND SEE everything! Big Issue sellers? have you asked all the local pubs and bars (I know there are lots!) maybe he is raiding dustbins.....have you broadened your search? If he got tapped by a vehicle or scared whilst crossing a road, they tend to just run (happenend to a couple of dogs I knew in London) in a panic and can cover quite a bit of distance. I would call all the vets in a good 5-10 mile radius. What about night soup kitchens? do you have any near you? Sometimes you'll find the people who live "on the street" so to speak are the best people to chat to as they are they eyes and ears 24hrs a day....motorbike courier companies as well.....GUMTREE great place to advertise. LOOT? make sure you look through there. I know exactly what you are going through! Fingers crossed for our hairy babies! XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What is the possible lead still to be checked out? PM if required.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have checked 6 possible leads, one more to go. Elder was walked on Well Street Common. He was spooked by a dog running towards him. He panicked, pulled the lead out of the walker's hand, ran off the common through Penshurst road E9 turned left to Lauriston road, with the extended lead bouncing behind him. In Lauriston road, the lead got stuck under the wheel of a parked car and his collar snaped. We received a call from Ben in Lauriston road, who found the collar and heard the commotion and saw Elder going towards Victoria Park. Where you in the area on the 25th January around 3.15pm? Did you see a yellow labrador getting into a car? A substancial reward is available for the safe return of Elder. His Spaniel best friend waits for him by the door and checks the rooms upon every return. Please keep looking. Thank you the dog had tangled the extended lead around a parked car and the leather collar snappedLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
