The 2 found ones on here are bitches. I'll check out Ned on the Gap forum, but unlikely to be Monkey as Gap are DL helpers and check their incoming strays against the missing ones here. Thanks everyone for looking out for him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have put some up along the main A246 between Effingham and West Horsley, also outside Howard of Effingham. Posters still up at Oreston Lane and Dirtham. Ark pet centre took a new poster of Monkey and also of Brock - bad news they will only be up for a week as they are closing down. After 11 years they have been forced out by better offer on lease. Postered this evening for both Brock and Monkey in Effingham area as follows: Orestan Lane outside Plough Pub and Dirtham Lane end, Church Road, The Street by the shops and outside Sir Douglas Haig Pub. Also gave posters for both dogs to police officers from Reigate Police Station parked at the top of Young Street, Fetcham, who told me they were in the middle of dealing with big theft of plant and machinery just along the road towards Bookham/Effingham direction (happened this evening). Police officer I spoke to was v. sympathetic and took the problem of dog theft seriously. On the way home, also put posters through door of Leatherhead Police Station, with a note explaining that both dogs were stolen from the same farm. Sorry, cannot do much tomorrow till evening. Jilly, Monkey's owner, has just had 200 more good-quality posters with big pic printed at local printers. Yesterday, PaulaK and I collected 50 posters from Jilly to start re-postering when out for Yiftaki CR5. Posters as follows: Newlands Corner, NT car park at Silent Pool, Shere village notice board (and gave poster to Cathy in Shere who is helping us with Yiftaki), Albury village notice boards, offices and Estate Office, Albury Heath cicket ground, Also postered West Clandon village main street and outside station, re-postered Tythebarns Lane.Gambles Lane and Grove Heath Lane areas between Ripley and Clandon. Will try to do more over the weekend. Also gave more posters to Celia Cross dog walkers we met on Newlands Corner (although kennels have been aware since the beginning of this search). Jilly also delivered a whole bunch of the new posters to local gipsy liason officer. Not giving up yet Monkey . . . . . PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have made contact with Jilly, Monkey's owner again. So pleased to see you again Jillly. Jilly joined other DL helpers, PaulaK, cosmicveggie (Annie) and me at big car boot sale on A3 at Ripley. She also drove all Annie's stuff to sale in her big people-carrier which was packed to the roof. Paula and Annie organised great display material and posters and info of all our local missing dogs (thanks to Nik for pomotional stuff too)., We raised about ?250 for DL and made some really useful contacts, raised awareness for DL, handed out lots of posters and info. Thank you to Paula for organising and to Annie for all the laminated big posters (mounted on old Digby display boards). Was lovely to see Jilly again and we are all making a real effort next week to re-poster for Monkey. Driving round the lanes back to Jilly's cottage, we passed v. washed-out looking Monkey posters - must replace asap. Jilly reported that she is working with dogwarden and gipsy liason officers behind the scenes . . . no luck so far, but we are all still hoping. Also our lovely leader, SueW, came along to carboot to cheer us on! Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just been speaking to Cosmicveggie. It seems Jilly (Monkey's owner) has had phone problems. Guildford gipsy liason officer and dog warden are in touch with Jilly. Since recent rain, all local posters look v. washed out and need replacing urgently. I have offered to do this with new, better-quality posters from printer to be supplied by Jilly. Cosmic/Jilly please call me when these are ready for me to collect, so that I can get out and poster this weekend. We are all doing big car boot sale at Ripley on Bank Holiday Sunday in aid of DogLost (organised by DL helper PaulaK), with posters of all our local misssing dogs, including Monkey of course. Cosmic, have also emailed you list of south-east rescue kennels for you and Jilly to email. Good to ctch up with you again Annie . . . . PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Nothing to report, I'm afraid. Have been trying to contact owner, Jilly, on the phone for update on where she has postered etc, but we keep missing each other. Meanwhile, I'm stilll postering most days locally - have done more round Bookham/Effingham areas (Chalk Pit Stables, nearby carpenter workshops, MPS farm machinery, plus given posters to riders and dog walkers. More footpthaths/bridleways being closed so am sticking to more urban areas). Anyone else who has postered, please put info on here (cosmic - where are you?!). Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just been speaking to Jilly. The latest tip-off is that Monkey could be quite local, possibly in the Horsley/Effingham direction. A static caravan site was mentioned. Have suggested to Jilly that local gipsy liason officer and Pete, the Guildford dog warden are contacted immediately. But these are all only tip-offs, nothing concrete to go on yet. Jilly and cosmicveggie spent a whole day at the end of last week doing a really good search of the area. The farm where Jilly lives is sealed off now due to nearby foot & mouth outbreak, so any local helpers please watch out for restrictions/closed footpaths when postering. Jilly is picking up another big batch of posters from the printers today for the next postering session. Stay safe Monkey . . . PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went to Cranleigh Agricutural show today, which of course was a much smaller affair as no livestock because of Foot & Mouth restrictions. All v. worrying and sad. Nevertheless, horse show, trade stands, gundogs etc all there, so plenty of places to poster. Postered for Monkey and Thelma (JRT missing from Petworth) at entrances, catalogue tent, horse show and trade stands. Celia Cross rescue were there and displayed posters on their stand, so did Surrey Union Hunt supporters. Gave out lots of posters to people at the ringside watching terrier racing and gundogs. Nice to meet new DL helper, Ellywelly (see Rosie reunited GU6) who turns out to be an old friend from my teenage pony club days around here (!!). Thank you also for posteringEllywelly and yes please do poster for Monkey in Shamley Green/Holmbury St Mary areas. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just heard on local radio that Cranleigh Show still going ahead tomorrow, despite no livestock being allowed due to yesterday's foot and mouth outbreak in NW surrey, so I'll still try to get there to poster the trade stands. Local helpers please note that there will be restrictions on crossing farmland, so we'll have to keep our postering to roadsides, villages, parks etc.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The council will usually only remove posters if they are on private property, not usually lamp posts or BT posts. Also trees are another area where posters can be removed by others. Gate posts to public walks are a good area to put posters and similar places. The car boot there would be a great area to circulate some posters, if cosmic or someone had the time? Thanks Patsy for doing some posters for Thelma as she could be anywhere now. I am postering for both dogs at the moment but I think the council are taking them down. Thank you Jacqui. that's brillliant! We need masses more posters down your way. I know that Jilly and Cosmicveggie are planning a big postering session in the Petersfield area next. Also, we have the big Cranleigh Agricultural Show this Sunday 5 August. I shall be going, and of course be taking posters for Monkey, and also for Thelma JRT missing from Petworth. This show always a v.good place to poster as they have livestock show, horse show, terrier racing, gundogs, plus masses of trade stands etc. Last year, Battersea Dogs Home also had a stand. I haven't been able to do much these last few days myself, but did poster the shops in Dorking earlier in the week. Every poster helps! Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have not seen any posters around here (Rowledge, Farnham) so will poster when walking my dogs, Frensham, Alice Holt, Bourne Woods, Kingsley Common. Mistynsashasmum: thank you for postering for Monkey at the show near Petworth today. I went along later in the morning, saw your posters, gave out lots more to people at the ringside, also got stuck in the mud and was fished out by a tractor. I also met v. helpful, sympathetic people who were genuinely interested in keeping a look-out for our lost dogs. On the way home, put up my remaining Monkey posters in Wisborough Green, farm shop and vets at Ockley. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I went to the dog show at Balls Cross and got totally plastered (no no no not in that way I dont drink) in mud. I took lots of flyers and handed them to people who were only to pleased to take them off me. Stalls displayed them as well. Nearly everyone I spoke to had seen Thelma in the Countrymans Weekly and some are going home to put the flyers in their vets both Thelmas and Monkeys. All the posters bar one have been taken down in Petworth. (I wonder why?) did not have any left to reposter. Please is their anyone in the Petworth area that help keep the posters going? as I am at work all the week and unable to get that way. No, I'm afraid there has been no news of Monkey. Had a long talk on the phone with Jilly, his owner, yesterday evening (Monday). She admits she has become close to giving up, but is making a renewed effort to carry on in her search. She is encouraged by the wonderful response received from kind people she has contacted via various greyhound racing/flapping websites, small unofficial tracks in Wales and the north of England. These are kind, sympathetic people, who care about their greyhounds (so not all bad people out there after all). With their help, (and Cosmicveggie's computer skills!!) she has sent Monkey's poster and details, including his tattoo number, to all the handicappers at all small, unaffilated tracks in England, Wales and Scotland. It is the handicapper at each meeting who checks the dogs' ID. Jilly is determined to finish contacting all the Irish tracks this week. Also all dogwardens and gipsy liason officers are to be contacted again locally. Monkey went missing over the Derby weekend, which may be significant. In the meantime, I have been re-postering locally as rain has made posters v. tatty. Today I re-postered the shops in Bookham. I carry a pile of Monkey's posters in the car, and each day do a few wherever I can. Jilly has done local vets, mainly in Guildford, Woking and surrounding areas, but anyone who can please poster your local vet. While Jilly pursues leads in the greyhound racing and rescue world, local helpers still need to poster and poster!! We discussed the possibility of a fatality, but the farms and shooting estate around her cottage are full of activity at the moment - keepers, people mending fences, laying new water trough pipes etc., so plenty of people searching the undergrowth and woods who know about Monkey. It is a mystery, but we are not giving up yet . . . . Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have emphasised the importance of continuing local postering and will do more for her when new posters arrive.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you wusic. will tell Jilly, Monkey's owner (she does not post on here, but looks in on Monkeys page regularly). Good to spread the word about Missing Monkey to Orpington area - and beyond. Today, I postered at Headley Village Flower and Dog Show, postering entrances to showground, giving out posters to exhibitors and people watching. Lots of dog-owners there, lots of interest shown and many knew about DogLost and had heard of Digby RH5's return this week. Met local Leatherhead town police officer, Fran Davey, with her lovely fox terrier, Charlie. Fran is aware of DogLost and the problem of our local missing/stolen dogs. Just need to keep on postering. Hoping all Jilly and Cosmic's postering and emailing will bring a result soon. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jayne/Keelah: thank you for putting Monkey into this week's Countryman's Weekly. Unfortunately, copy reads 'missing from Clandon, West Sussex'. Should be SURREY! Could I also advise against posters at traffic lights and other road signs. This is flyposting and local authorities not only remove them, put also prosecute. DogLost does not condone flyposting and asks helpers to be responsible and respect the environment. This sort of activity also reflects badly on us.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jacky-uk, I don't think Monkey is likely to be in that area. He doesn't fit the sort of spec that I would associate with that area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sometimes postcodes make distances sound further- just looking at AA route planner - Digby went missing from DH5 - which is only 11 miles from where Monkey went missing - could he also now be at the same place as Digby was? Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have also spoken with Jilly today and we are getting together tomorrow morning to email all flapping sites (as well as sending via snail mail) a poster and details of Monkey. Also decided good idea to laminate some posters, make them big and bold for trafic lights in very prominent local areas, then expanding out, maybe main roundabouts off the M25 - if any other people around the M25 junction could do the same I can email them the poster that we put together - trying to make it as easy and as bold as possible for people to get needed info, eg large photo, phone no, reward, micro'd, distinctive markings.... Digby's owners is kindly donating her leftovers!!! I feel the search should now be widened quite extensively as neither of us really believe that he is located here anymore, believing more and more that he has been taken for racing. Is it possible to widen the request for moderate postering???? What does everyone else think????Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to Jilly this morning. She is feeling very low as there have been no news or sightings of Monkey. She is encouraged by Digby's and Blue's stories. Am encouraging her to keep on postering and not give up. Other RH, GU, KT helpers - PLEASE keep on postering, email local vets, greyhound rescue sites etc. Have suggested to Jilly that she calls Paul, Megan's owner, again for ideas and info. Jayne, if you have a moment, please do call Jilly. Or Sue, if you are back in action. I know she would appeciate your advice. Thank you. Cosmic: have left a message on your phone. Perhaps we can do big push for all our local missing dogs the show. Saw Jilly yesterday (we took one of her dogs and one of mine for v. wet walk in fields around her house where Monkey ran off). Jilly is planning to go to Ockham dog show herself. Today she is postering Epsom Downs, following supposed sighting of black greyhound up there. Thank you Keelah. Have sent you a pm with more info about Monkey's racing past. Jilly, his owner, and also his previous racing owners and trainer, have given their permission for this to now be released as he may have been stolen for unaffiliated racing, or 'flapping races' (although we have no proof of this). Please call Jilly for the full story. All I shall say on here is that he raced under the name Purple Monkey and was quite successful. He could have gone back to Ireland to stand at stud, but had nice owners who wanted him to have a good life, living out his retirement as a family pet in a rural environment - which is how he came to Jilly. He only retired from racing last Christmas. His previous owners, trainer and kennel staff are all watching this page daily hoping for good news. Lots of work going on behind the scenes to try and track him down. But we are also still postering locally in case he has been taken in. No news from supposed sightings in Woking and Chobham areas, so we are putting up old posters with original message locally to Clandon. thank you Keelah! PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken to Jilly this morning. She and Annie (cosmicveggie) have been out together postering and searching area of last sighting since 6.00 am this morning. A man from Plants Ltd Nurseries, Woodcock Lane, saw a big black greyhound like Monkey at 7.00 am yesterday (this ties in with other sightings in the area yesterday and the day before). WE HAVE ANOTHER POSSIBLE SIGHTING! At 7.30 am yesterday (unfortunately the message only came through this morning), a big black greyhound with white markings, looking like Monkey, was seen on the GORDON BOYDS roundabout, Bagshot Road, Camberley. He dashed off into the woods. Camberley Police and the Camberley Dog Warden, Julia Adams, are aware and have advised Jilly (Monkey's owner) to poster all along the HOOK STONE LANE area. Jilly will be driving over there to poster and look around shortly. COSMIC: IF YOU ARE LOOKING IN, PLEASE CALL JILLY (SORRY TO HEAR YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL . . ). If another sighting, I can come out to help. Will keep you posted. ADMIN: CAN YOU SEND OUT POSTERS TO HELPERS IN THE CAMBERLEY/BAGSHOT/FARNHAM AREAS?(Unless aleady done). cosmicveggie and Jilly-I am in awe of the amount of time and effort you are putting in to find Monkey and consider Patsy is so lucky to have 2 such dedicated volunteers-many areas do not have people able/willing to put in all the hours you 2 are. I do so hope you get a positive sighting soon-I hate to be negative BUT you mentined the railway line in your description cosmicveggie-have the railway authorities been contacted-it can be the demise of many of our missing dogs? The other possibility to which you allude was mentioned much earlier in the search and is a constant concern with lost dogs -the best way to cover this one is by emphasising the reward and postering the relevant areas-which I am sure you have. It is sad that just like in any branch of society, the few 'rotten apples' can lay suspicion on the masses -most of whom are perfectly innocent-but experience means we cannot leave this avenue unexplored. Best of luck over the WE. We will be checking for news of your progress. Well done again M x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thats brilliant cosmicveggie. Thank you so much for all that, and especially for the trouble you have taken with 'Lessy'. Hopefully she will be well, and in a loving home very soon. You have all helped her so much. Now we just need Monkey back to have a perfect ending. Have been thinking of him all day again xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Right, I've spoken with the RSPCA and Lessy (that's what I've named her) is doing ok, she's very frightened but being given anti-biotics, pain relief, fluids and being fed puppy food. She initially had some diarrhoea which has now subsided so they are not too concerned. At this point everything is pointing to her having a full recovery she is probably going to be there for about a week and then passed to Battersea Dog (& Cat) Home to be rehomed (assuming her owners don't claim her). I will keep in touch with the RSPCA - anyone that is interested in her progress and being updated please PM me so we can keep this area dedicated again to Monkey. Many thanks everyone - OH forgot to say that Dogs Trust have said I can take some info with me on Sunday to their Open Day and also Wandesworth Careline have taken DogLost info to add to their site as a link for anyone needing our help!! :o)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Muns, I can see why you think it's chloe, but the eye/facial markings are quite a bit different - this baby has tan/biscuit eyebrows only and black around the eyes and down the nose - chloe has tan/biscuit all around her eyes... Won't discount it though - and they may even want to love her anyway!! xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Media update: Surrey Advertiser have been wonderful. They have given us a small colour display ad at short notice (past copy date) and at greatly-discounted rate and also we have re-written press release into a letter from Jilly to go on letters page this Friday, as too late for editorial. Next week, if Monkey is still missing, they will do a proper article with pictures. Maybe we can include something about Digby in that one? Cheap printer came up with good deal, so Jilly off postering now . . . PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We do have pictures!!!! I've emailed the CORRECT details of the found baby - not an industrial estate but someone's back garden on an estate - I wasn't very clear on the phone, hadn't prepared myself properly so have followed up with email giving clear and full details AND 4 photos for them to chose from. She's a BABE and will be a reach treasure for someone!!!! Have just emailed the poster of Monkey to the printers and am also suggesting some small flyers for letterboxes in Jilly's immediate area. Anyone know of any really exceptional printers that do really good discounts for items such as mini flyers, A4 colour poster copying, A3 colour posters and laminated items - preferably with ink that doesn't run??? If not I think I might fight my way through the listings and see if we can't get some kind soul to take pity on the lost stolen or missing dogs from Surrey and do us a wonderful deal!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We are resuming the search for Monkey in earnest this morning. Jilly and Annie are organising masses of posters via nice printer in Cobham, who will hopefully give a huge discount, and they are off postering the Horsley/Send/Ripley/Effingham areas this afternoon. I have been in touch with Surrey Advertiser - we have missed copy date, but they are trying to get something in for us. Little saluki x lurcher is now on found pages of DogLost. Well, unfortunately there is still no sign of Monkey. But the good news is that this evening the little skinny lurcher was caught with the help of the RSPCA, police and local residents in the St John's area. Both Annie (cosmicveggie) and I spent most of the afternoon and early evening postering and looking for Monkey with Jilly (and her two rotties), following up earlier sightings. We are still not sure if any of the sightings were in fact Monkey (lady who reported seeing him this morning is convinced she saw a big greyhound), but little dog caught this evening is definitely the same as seen last night in Jackman's Lane. She (not he!) is a little Saluki type cross, young, maybe a year old, very emaciated and thin and very scared. She is lovely. RSPCA man scanned her - no chip. She has been taken up to RSPCA in Putney as he was called out to a cat involved in RTA up there. Also he felt she should see a vet tonight at the RSPCA hospital as she is in such poor condition. Annie has her details, has taken photos and will register her with DogLost on the Found page. Meanwhile, poor Jilly feeling very low as still no sign of Monkey. When I have deciphered my notes, I'll post on here where we have postered just for the record. Paula: hope your little staffie is doing well. Keep safe Monkey. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Will try to keep on here but historically she has been very clingy after any vet visit so dont count on me tonight. Wish I could be more help, Monkey needs to be home. I've just spoken with Jilly again - I've suggested to her that she return home and collect her other two dogs and do a gentle walk, scenting around the latest sighting. She's exhausted and very emotional and feels she's neglecting the other two dogs. I think this is the most sensible idea as it will give her something else to focus on whilst doing positive work towards getting Monkey back - it also means she's not driving!!! Patsy, Paula and myself can be there in a few hours time with posters (which Jilly left at home) and can get to grips with the whole area and get postering and looking. If anyone else can help so we can persuade Jilly to go home and get some sleep it would be much appreciated... xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I spoke to Jilly about the racing place yesterday and she said she has been back there with him since and he didn't seem particularly pleased to be there, even though it's actually a fantastic kennels...!? I don't feel he would try getting there, unless of course it's all he can think about because he's lost and it's what he knows best? I think he's been away from Chichester for a long time though - maybe longer than Jilly has had him? I've just had a call from Paula and she's not free yet - I think what I'll do is phone some of the places in that area and alert them to the fact that he's around as I have to got to Kingston for 2.30pm and I can give more time this way that actually going over there. I will call Jilly after my appointment and probably go straight over there from Kingston. Stay stay my little munchie, we're gonna make you happy!!! xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS!! Jilly just called in. She received a phone call at about 9.45am today from a lady who said she was stuck in a traffic jam which she said was being caused by a big black and white greyhound who looked just like Monkey (she had seen the posters). This was in the Littlewick Common area, not far from original sighting at Horsell Birch, at Barrs Lane. The dog was seen heading up the Chobham Road. Jilly was on M25 at the time, got there quickly, but no traffic jam or dog to be seen by then. She is in the area now postering and asking around. Annie/Paula be prepared . . . !! Hope this is him. Despite this sighting, Admin please still put poster back to general info as it keeps changing all the time. thankyou. Will keep you all posted. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Agree with you muns re travellers. It is only one lot of gipsies, known to the gamekeeper and spoken to by him, that have been discounted. Other sites are/should be targeted and gipsy liason officers were contacted by owner at the beginning of this search. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is so disappointing and now we have to worry about this other poor dog that it would seem doesn't have a caring owner looking for him. Do Greyhound/lurcher rescue have volunteers (Dl style) who would be prepared to try and catch him ? Just thinking Jilly is probably going to continue to get calls and it would be nice if there were people prepared to try and get him safe. As you say probably a travellers dog. I caught up with one myself a while back in Horton Country park, a ranger and I managed to corner him and get a lead on. I have never seen such a terrified creature in all my life. Going back to the 'Greyhound man' I met on Friday, has Monkey been with Jilly for long ? He, having had seven greyhounds said they have a serious homing instinct. Could he be trying to get 'somewhere' ? Although it would seem very likely that it could be 'the usual suspects'. Will get out postering again as soon as I can (builders !) Thanks for the up date Annie, description of your cat chucking up only put me off my shredded wheat for a moment......... not really ! you have been absolutely fantastic, sorry again that it wasn't him. Oh So sorry the sightings ar not Monkey but hope this por dog may be caught too since it seems he/she is in a bad way. Having read the postings and the fact there have been no sightings despite massive publicity I think I might conclude someone has him at the moment. How can the game keeper be so certain it has nothing to do with the travellers? I think I would certainly make sure their site is plastered with posters and their local pubs etc since Monkey is such a naturally friendly dog I would assume he would turn to people to help and it seems strange that nobody has reported him. Ahh, just got in to 6 very hungry cats - I have 3 and a semi-4th and the 2 from the young lad next door were ravenous as he apparently prefers dating girls to feeding his cats and they haven't eaten since last night!!!!! NOT impressed with his behaviour!!! ANYWAY just a confirmation on what Patsy has said really - the dog is more like a Saluki and much smaller than Monkey, but every bit his twin from the front view. Jilly really is so disappointed and deflated and feels she just doesn't know where to start looking now. I suggested too that we accept today but be glad that we have met contacts, left posters and generally spread the word in that direction, should he get that way in the future and that we start from base again and cover old ground and anywhere we may have missed before. Will poster Cobham/Send/Clandons heavily tomorrow - he's going to be there SOMEWHERE....!!!! Oh great, just to finish the day - or start the new one, one of my cats has just thrown up his food.... joy! Night everyone xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Disappointing news I'm afraid - the dog we have been following is NOT Monkey. Jilly has just phoned me after being called out to another sighting at about 9.00pm this evening at a house by the woods at Jackman's Lane, St Johns. Jilly saw the dog - it is v. like Monkey, but a smaller, slightly hairy, black and white lurcher type, probably a travellers' dog, shy and wary of people. He dashed off and is still on the run, so we'll probably get more calls about him as the St Johns/Knaphill/Horsell area is v.well postered now. So, if any reports of a missing b/w lurcher in the Woking area come in to DogLost, it could be this dog. I'll call the woking Dogwarden number tomorrow to tell them about this dog. ADMIN: please could information on Monkey's poster be put back to original wording again? Poor Jilly - she's been working so hard looking for Monkey these last few days, with so little sleep. This is a real setback. Thank you also to Paula and Annie (cosmicveggie) for all the driving around and postering. Annie was in the area most of today with Jilly.( We all met up in the overgrown garden at amazing derelict old house in St Johns near one of the sightings earlier this evening - perfect place for a stray dog to hide out). When original wording is back on poster, please can helpers continue to poster nearer to Clandon/Ripley/Ockham/Send areas. Back to square one now I'm afraid . . . Keep safe Monkey. Sadly no sightings last night but if he is hiding thats no surprise as the area has loads of common land and woodland. Pete and his dog were sat patiently waiting for an appearance where he was sighted last night but sadly nothing. So frustrating. I presume Jilly has already called RSPCA Chobham as its only a couple of miles away - will check with her this morning. Cosmic - one place not yet postered is the carpark and woodland between New Haw and Horsell (cant remember what its called) but its always full of dog walkers (except at 8.30 last night when I went past) he could easily have made his way in that direction (only a couple of miles from sighting) I cant do much today as Im working and have meetings but call me if you need anything. Jilly just phoned in. She has been in the area all day, walking the woods, postering, talking to people. Her partner, Pete, is also there now with their other car (parked in area of sighting with back open!) and their other two dogs. One or other of them will keep watch. They will NOT leave the area and are now waiting where Monkey was spotted last night at 7.00 pm, hoping he will return at a similar time. Have spoken about scenting, not calling out to him, putting down food (they have chicken). Pete's contact number is 07860 191515. Apparently Monkey was spotted in a man's garden on Friday afternoon (he shooed him away and is v. apologetic about this now!). Also poss. sighting at Littlewick Common and of course outside the Cricketers at Horsell Birch last night at 7.00 pm. So there certainly is a similar dog on the loose - let's hope it is Monkey. Good luck Jilly and Pete! PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for doing all that for Monkey, Yasa. that's great. Have just got in from West Grinstead (postering at Terrier Show - met lots of really helpful people with lurchers and greyhounds, gave out posters etc). Jilly left message at lunchtime to say that she and her friend had spent all morning (from 6.00 am!) postering Horsell area. They knocked on door of house near Cricketers pub - people there say it was definitely Monkey and they SAW HIM AT ABOUT 7.OOPM LAST NIGHT OUTSIDE THE PUB LOOKING CONFUSED. Have left message for Jilly to call me re scenting the area/more posters etc. Am awaiting her call . . . Do hope it is him! fingers crossed! PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If anyone needs it tomorrow the telephone number I was given by the Woking Police for the dog warden service is 01483 755855. This goes through to the council offices and has a recorded message which will be on there until tomorrow, which gives opening hours. (8.45am start ). The other number which I found on the council website, which deals with it is 01483 743840. Recorded message on here also saying office closed until tomorrow (Mon). Telephone number for Woking Police is 0845 125 2222, and then you have to dial 0 to be put through to the front desk. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Patsy have Emailed poster with covering letter to The Environmental Health Dept at Woking Council , but there is no 'dog warden service' untill tomorrow morning (Monday). I will ring them in the morning to make sure they have received it, and forwarded it to the correct department. It seems there may not be a Woking Dog Warden as such, but the Woking Council use an outside contractor who collects stray dogs and takes them to Bellmead, which is an outstation of Battersea Dogs Home. Have also Emailed the poster with covering letter and all contact numbers to 3 different departments at Battersea. Will see what else I can do. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Yasa and muns. That's great. Postered car park exits at Wildlife Aid early this morning (big open day there later today). Have just spoken to Jilly - she postered area last night and has been back there since early this morning with a friend who is helping her. They will call if a positive sighting. Nothing so far. She will contact Woking dogwarden Monday morning and get more details from postman who reported sighting. Yasa, perhaps you could email poster to Woking dogarden? I'm off to Crawley & Horsham Terrier Show now (with posters of course!). PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Am out this morning, but will have a look at this area later to see if I can help by Emailing posters out. Helpers seem thin on the ground there, and so many areas to cover. Another sighting would be wonderfull, so we'll pray for that today. Catch up on here later xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No more news from Jilly and far too late to call her now, so will try to get update in the morning. Will poster for Monkey (and Digby RH5) at Leatherhead Wildlife Aid Open Day and Crawley & Horsham Terrier Show tomorrow (Sunday). Hoping for good news soon. Any Woking/Guildford people who could help poster please give Jilly, Monkey's owner, a call. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just come home from postering to find message from Jilly to say she is just having something to eat and then heading back there with more posters this evening. Also, she has just read all our messages and says a BIG THANKYOU to all helpers. I saw many of her posters near the Cricketers Pub at Horsell Birch. Have postered pet shop and main crossroads at Knaphill, postbox at Littlewick Common, then all around Bullbeggars Lane area (not Bluebeggars as typed earlier!), spoken to dogwalkers etc. Saw more of Jilly's posters. Nice allotment people let me poster their main shed at the entrance where all can see. Also did village notice boards in Horsell Village and then on way home put through letterboxes of Pet Doctors in St Johns and RSPCA Chobham (closed by then). Drove around Horsell Common area looking, but no more posters left. There's lots of woodland, but all chopped up with busy roads. Also there is huge residential estate called Goldsworth Park with supermarked, petrol station, primary school and adjoining industrial estate. A huge, mixed area to cover. Also, as Jan says, miles from Clandon - so looks as if Monkey was picked up and then either dumped or escaped (if it IS him . . . ). Postman did say that he looked in a bad state and not like on poster - so either he has had a bad time, or perhaps not him? Anyway, Jilly is determined and I've told her to call me for help if definite sighting. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just consulted my Surrey map, this is quite a distance from where he went missing isn't it. Could he be heading for anywhere over that way ? Does he have friends/family/kennels ? Will really try and get to the area tomorrow but I'm not sure if I'll manage to. Keep safe Monkey and don't run away from people that are trying to help you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

EXCITING NEWS! POSSIBLE SIGHTING! Jilly has just called me. She received a call from a local postman who delivers to Send prison. He thinks he saw Monkey yesterday in the KNAPHILL/HORSELL BIRCH AREA, near the Cricketers Pub/Bluebeggars Lane Area. Monkey was lying by the side of the road, 'looking awful' he said, but jumped up and ran off when approached. A lady was trying to catch him with food, but no luck. Jilly is out there now putting up posters. I'll print some more off and go over there (but I don't know the area at all well). Any other local helpers available? Paula? Cosmic? Admin: can you change poster to read SIGHTED and maybe put to page one again? That would be wonderful. Jan: thankyou for yesterday's postering and networking. It all helps so much. Keep safe Monkey . . PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Postered at Esher common this morning. Went to table sale in church hall in Cobham. Lady there sells bric a brac etc. to raise funds for Greyhoud Rescue and has greyhouds herself she put a poster on the stall and will pass the word round, she lives in Bookham. Another seller there came over to show me his copy of the Racing Post and the advert in there for 'Missing Monkey' . He was very much a greyhound person and knows this area much better than me. Said that he knows of dogs that have travelled miles to get back to their original racing kennels, he had seven. Also said there is a kennels near there and an old dog racing track ? Not sure if is still used for practice ? He suggested you contact Terry Lucas a local greyhound trainer, I think that's right, you have probably done all this anyway but nothing to lose by passing it on.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Monkey's owner, Jilly, has just been on the phone with an update. Sadly, no news or sightings, but Monkey's previous owners (when he was racing) have put a good ad in the Racing Post offering a cash reward for his safe return. (Admin: please can you add Cash Reward on DL poster). Also Jilly received phone call from Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare Kennels at Hersham who has heard about him, are printing off DogLost posters and volunteers are distributing/putting up in the area. All helps spread the word . . Jilly is keen to get as much press for Monkey as possible and is contacting Leatherhead & Dorking Advertiser herself (our local paper - always v. supportive of DogLost). Jayne/Nik/Keelah: any chance of getting Monkey into Countryman's Weekly? Or doing a press release, perhaps linking his story with Digby RH5? I know that Jilly is prepared to be interviewed/do local radio etc., but would be great to get your help on this. She also is planning to register so she can post on the site herself with updates (but may have to call Admin for help on this tomorrow, as having difficulty with registering). She is in constant touch with dogwardens and gipsy liason officers around here and is spending tomorrow morning out postering again. Local helpers - please keep up with the posters where you can. thankyou. Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That's great about Hatchlands. It's hard for NT saff as they have to follow NT rules (I know, I help up at Polesden!), but usually the wardens and gardeners are v. helpful, as many have their own dogs, and will keep posters in their landrovers and keep a look out. Went out postering last night for Monkey - saw your ones Cosmic! Postered as follows: E. Clandon by Church crossroads and Back Lane, all along Ripley Road back towards prison (put one outside Clematis Centr, Jan). Then did Gambles Lane/Grove Heath Lane area and also put poster through letterbox of saddlers in Ripley asking them to put in window. Jilly: if you are looking in, please call to let us know how the search is going - or post on here. Keep safe Monkey . . . .Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to let you know that I went in to Hatchlands and they are going to discuss some way of having a book that has the latest posters or dog information in it so that regular walkers can keep up to date with what is happening and who is missing - I need to go back and try to talk to the right person (it was late and just spoke to the chap on the gate). They can't/won't put them up directly in view in the gatehouse but are keen to help as best they can. Clandon Golf Club has been done - most UNHELPFUL really!!!! - obviously not a dog lover and doesn't understand or want to understand the heartbreak a lost dog causes, would he be the same if it were a child I wonder???.... ANYWAY - noticed yesterday that the posters that I put up on Ripley A3 roundabout have been taken down, along with the one that Amanda did for Digby!!!! Nice people!! There's posters on the road from Send to West Clandon where the public footpath goes off towards the direction that Monkey went missing. The Ranger at Sheepleas was great and doesn't mind posters on the areas that he covers!! :o) Ranger for Newlands will leave them up for a couple of weeks but would like to arrange a chat with someone about promoting responsible dog ownership and the work of Dog Lost in general at some of the walk/talks from Newlands - I'll email HO Admin separately. He also said that a general one about Dog Lost would be ok to put on the main noticeboard - do we have such a thing?? Also put posters up right in the middle of East Clandon by the Church. May be able to do more on Friday, tied up till then.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Postered at Shere Cricket ground/rec. Quite a way away but in 9 days who knows how far he may have travelled, also did Ockham Cricket Club and several points in between ! Difficult roads to stop on, didn't see any other posters except Cosmicveggies wonderful effort at Sheepleas. Fed up with putting posters at Bookham, despite saying they will leave them a while the b*ggers take them straight down again. Rabbits big and small running about everywhere, shouldn't think Monkey will go hungry.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Can't type - should of course read ' . . large area of private farmland . .' .'Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to be clear, Ryde Farm Estate is a large rea of private farmland between Ripley Lane, W. Horsley, and Hungry Hill Lane, E. Clandon (not W. Clandon as in my previous post!). this is north of the main A246 Leatherhead to Guildford road, lying behind NT Hatchlands Estate. so, adjoining villages to poster are West Horsley, East & West Clandon, Ripley, Ockham. For new helpers, posters need to be displayed as many places as possible. Lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins, vets, pet shops, ask postmen to take to sorting office, milkmen, bin men, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, all takeaway food shops, dog training clubs, supermarkets, car parks, and in car windows. Hand out smaller posters or cards to people, especially dog walkers and deliver to houses etc. Police stations, and Dog Wardens, R.S.P.C.A , and all rescue centres need checking frequently, and preferably visited in person. Pubs are a good source of knowledge. Speak to all the locals, they may just know something. Do hope you have some news of Monkey soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Monkey's owner, Jilly, has just called me back!! He is still missing and she has been out looking for him all weekend. Jilly says thankyou for all phone calls, sorry she hasn't returned any of them and is so grateful for any help we can give her. Details as follows: Jilly and her partner live up a track on the Ryde Farm Estate, between Jury Farm and Holride Farm (v. rural, in the middle of land between W. Horsley and W. Clandon, not far from the Send prison). It's a big shooting estate, everyone knows Jilly and her three dogs (Monkey and two rotties), gamekeeper is being v. helpful, as are other people who work there, visiting tree surgeon etc. They do have a poaching problem with gipsies on the estate, but they have been approached by gamekeeper who is confident they do not have Monkey. Jilly has done all the right things: contacted dog warden, police, gipsy liason officer, transport police( who have walked the line from Guildford to Effingham Junction), conacted vets, various greyhound rescues and websites, as well as searching the estate night and day, both on foot and on quadbike with gamekeeeper. Monkey has just disappeared (the dogs all ran off playing in a field near her cottage and only two came back). Monkey is v. friendly and so could have been picked up - there are bridlepaths and footpaths over the estate. So we need lots of posters now please in nearby villages, livery stables, outside schools etc. Jilly has also now printed off posters and will do the same. Monley is an ex-racer, but is castrated so no use for breeding, but there is always the worry of illegal racing/coursing. So, now we have more info we can really start to get postering . . .Px Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, I phoned again this morning but the phone isn't even ringing, just going straight to answerphone - both the landline and the mobile - strange!! I would have thought they would be grateful of the help?? ANYWAY, have postered in East/West Clandon, just a few areas but including East Clandon Garden Centre, Squires Garden Centre/Pet Shop, Sheepleas car parks, Newlands Corner (spoke with Rangers at those two), Ripley roundabout (A3). Have postered the following dogs too: Digby, Russell, Zara, Frank & Bonny as these are in the vicinity/could be and it makes quite an impact to see them together...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just logged on. Sorry, can't go out postering for a couple of days as am ill in bed. Also have no voice! So cannot phone owner. Sue (where are you?!) or Jan, can you phone owner to find out if E.Clandon or W.Clandon? Was Monkey stolen, or did he run off on a walk? Where exactly? Admin: it is quite a large area with lots of NT open country and farms, so would be good to know more details if poss. I'll email posters to NT wardens and property managers at Clandon Park and Hatchlands. Also Celia Cross Greyhound Rescue. Maybe owner has already contacted these, but can never have too many posters.
