Is there a generic poster encouraging people to sign up for Dog Lost ?Just think the more people that are signed up, the better chance we have of preventing something like this happening in the future. Just because I feel so sorry for poor Buster keep thinking about the little fella,
Unknown
Mala. You must not blame yourself for the death of Buster, these things happen. Nobody can be responsible for everything that happens in life. Think of all the dogs (Including Buster) you have helped over the years, such as finding them loving homes etc. I know it`s easy to say and not so easy to do, but please try to be positive, and look at the good works you are doing. David is right it takes special people to do what you do, including David himself. What would these poor dogs do without people like you and David?
David
I had only found out about Buster a day or so ago, and was about that night to contact someone to join a search as we live locally too. We are so sorry, he looked such a beautiful dog.

My wife’s grandfather founded another Anglo-european rescue society which is still going strong. It takes very special people to do such things. Looking at the GAR website we were particularly struck by the incredible work it does and its achievements of which everyone involved can be rightly proud and hold their heads high.

Let Buster be a lovely dog who died not in vain but to strengthen the cause. Sometimes life is so very unfair. Yes of course it’s a setback but what would be more unfair would be if in some way this dented the confidence and the good work everyone is doing. If anything it must reinforce that the lives of these animals are so precious yet so fragile and hence their crying need for help.

We’ve had many rescue dogs over the years and are perhaps more experienced with dogs than many and yet when we picked up our latest one we stopped the car for a break on the way home and she slipped her lead even though we thought it was on tightly. She could so easily have bolted like Buster. Luckily she came to us but it could have so easily been a similar outcome.

So RIP Buster – and let his memory live on he did not die in vain.

Buster – a very special little dog.

Oh Mala, how sad but don't blame yourself, it was an accident, you did what you thought was best for this lovely dog; my dog walker lost my lovely dog over a year ago, and I could have blamed him but those horrible things happen and it's no-one's fault.

Get some sleep that's the best you can do now.

lots of love

Took down the posters at deerleap today, a few people asked if he had been found when they saw me take them down, everyone was very sad at the news, the little guy really touched everyones hearts, so wish we could have found him safe and sound

Oh no, how tragic - such a sad outcome for such a beautiful dog. I am so very, very sorry, and my thoughts are with Mala at this most distressing time (please don't blame yourself, accidents will happen), and to all the kind people who assisted in the search for dear Buster. You do now at least have closure and Buster is still close by. Run free at the bridge, lovely Buster xx
deburs
Thank you to everyone here who helped with the search for Buster. I am very very upset. Buster proved to be as beautiful in death as he was in life - a gorgeous boy. He is at rest in Mala's garden. I have found this experience deeply upsetting. My heart goes out to all the team at Greek Rescue and Paula.Last edited: 2012-06-12 18:22:34 by deburs

Such a tragedy! So sorry to see this about Buster. RIP sweetheart, and play at the bridge with your pals, where you will be wearing your Angel wings, and one day when the time is right, you will be met by those who cared for you. Night, night Buster, sleep tight, whilst Jesus looks over you. God Bless+++

I'm so saddened to read of Busters Tragic accident, its heartbreaking for everyone involved. There is no blame in these situations, sadly its an accident and nobody should blame their self for what has happened. My heart goes out to all who loved Buster xxx

I just came home and saw the words reunited on the page only to scroll down to see the devastating news. Poor beautiful little Buster. Mala please dont punish yourself you were doing your best bringing Buster to England for a happy life as you have done with many other dogs who have very loving homes thanks to you. I am so sad at the outcome. Peace now for Buster x
Mala
Kimmybear.... I just read your message and I'm sorry to say what you wrote is wrong. The last 12 days - since Buster went missing - were the worst days of his year 'short' life. He was rescued when he was 2 months old and had been well taken care os. The reason he was so traumatised & scared of people etc is that an adult dog he was very close to got run over (lorry driver coming into the yard didn't realise Luben went out when he closed the gates) and it wasn't a quick death.... Buster witnessed it all and went into shock - he was 6 months old then....... he became withdrawn, scared of people, stopped playing with other dogs etc ... until about a month before he came over.... then he was put on some herbal tablets which really helped a lot, but of course from the day he got lost...... the last 12 days were the most terrifying for a small dog like him; he was totally in panic mode, he wouldn't have known how to find food or even stop to look for it....
Unknown
Oh no, this is an awful thing to happen RIP Buster at the bridge. xx
Mala
P.S. I clearly didn't look at the page closely to note that Buster's death has been mentioned.....
Mala
I can't believe that nobody has yet updated the page with the tragic news..... Buster was found DEAD on/near a motorway yesterday at around 11am....... I drove to the area where he was last sighted the day before....junction between M27 - M3. I came with lots of posters I printed the night before, but as I drove and got close to Nursley (thanks Debrus for booking me in for a night), I intended to stay for a few days and if there was a sighting somebody would have brought 2 traps with them.......I learned about Buster's death via a phone call at the in where I was spending the night..... I screamed!!! I feel so guilty that I asked the person in Greece who had him to let us find a loving home for him...... he went to a foster home to whom I explained the day before about Buster's background, how nervous he was of people, how scared etc etc....... Why oh why didn't I take him home after I got him off the van on 26 May?!! I founded Greek Animal Rescue 24 years ago and over the years we brought into the UK hundreds of dogs (and some cats), often abused, maimed, mentally and physically scarred etc, but we have never ever had a dog killed by a car. Poor Buster had been in a panic mode from the moment he got loose...... and we've had so much rain ...... I haven't slept properly for day, but most of last night and today I've been crying and feeling guilty. Buster was entrusted to me by the person who rescued him and she doesn't know yet that she was right about having a 'bad feeling' about Buster coming over...... I brought his body home and he's being buried in our garden...... I just said good-bye to him..... Thank you, Deburs for all your help; I couldn't have done without it!!

can anyone in Hampshire that is willing to help with finding other lost dogs in the area in the future, please register with this facebook group and add any contact details that were useful in the search for Buster, so they can be utilised quickly in the search for any other lost pets. Busters life was so sad it would seem a fitting tribute if we can somehow help other lost pets through Buster bringing us all together. https://www.facebook.com/groups/263136747127167/#!/groups/263136747127167/doc/265162463591262/Last edited: 2012-06-12 12:23:37 by rescuedogsrock

Oh this is dreadful. I am so, so sorry. Buster was rescued from Greece, so no matter how few days he spent over here, they would have been wonderful compared to what he had come from. You gave him love and he knows that. Sadly, sometimes, things just aren't meant to be, I really do not know why, but the way things work out, you can't help but wonder. I suspect precious Buster had a mission and completed it, so God called him home. He is safe now, nothing can harm him again and I am sure he went to heaven quickly and without pain straight into God's arms. God bless you sweet Buster, you have found people who love you, so now you can rest peacefully, until you see them again.xxx

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am sorry to report that we think Buster has been killed on the motorway at Rownhams and has been there at around 1pm. Paula is going to pick him up. Kirsty spotted him. I will confirm more later. We are all very sad. We did not find out by the police as requested but by s/o working in the petrol station. We are all so devastated but the odds were stacked against him so much. x

The Head of the Greek Rescue, Vesner, has just arrived and is staying at a B&B in Ashurst Bridge. Thank you too. I am meeting Mala this morning to show her the area but I have to get back to work. There is a new poster available with updated locations. Please email deburs@onetel.com if anyone wants it.

Paula has put a piece of clothing outside her house and is taking a piece of her clothing down the the Church. I read that on another page.

I phoned the police again this morning - no update on the motorway incident.

My friend has emailed her geocaching and radio group and Soton Council Parks.

I have a list - perhaps these can be assigned to people. What do you think?

dog walkers
dog clubs
vets in these new areas
supermarkets ad newsagents - these will be done today
train drivers. I read you can give them posters when the are stopped at the stations - eg Ashurst, Beaulieu Road, Totton

New info: 5 days into when he went missing a possible sighting was made at Newbridge which goes under the M27 - lady saw a white dog fox like run in front of her. She was then at work and saw poster and was sure it was Buster. NB this is 5 day old information but not followed up because simply because efforts were being concentrated on deerleap.

Thank you everyone for helping. Today I have been x 2 to M27/M3, along the woods along the motorway and on the flyovers. I bumped into Kirsty who has to come all the way from Hythe now. This distance is now a lot further for us both as I am in Totton. We have postered as much as possible but more needs doing around Eastleigh. Kirsty has been handing out smaller versions of the poster. PLEASE CAN WE HAVE SOME HELP FROM HELPERS WHO HAVE BEEN EMAILED AS WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LEAFLETING AND POSTERING. IT IS NOT CLEAR OF COURSE IF BUSTER IS TRYING TO GET HOME TO BISHOPS WALTHAM OR THIS IS PART OF HIS TRIANGLE THAT DOGS DO - VERY BIG ONE IF SO. PLEASE CAN WE HAVE SOME EXPERT HELP ON WHAT HE COULD BE DOING?

ANY OLD POSTERS NEED WRITING OVER NEW SIGHTING AT M27/M3 CHILWORTH SO THAT THEY CAN STILL BE USED

Was going to meet at Deerleap, but I'm still in Chilworth, going to stay here and look before it gets dark. Can be out again Mon eve.

deburs
Nik - do you have contact with Wave 105?
deburs
So an update: I sent the new poster out to some of my friends. One of my friends called me to say she had seen the dog running downwards towards Rownhams Service as she was driving on the slip road where the M27 joins the M3. This was at about 11ish. I called the police. and two people had already called in about him - my friend did say he looked like Buster. The police were called and the traffic was slowed but they got there and he has disappeared again. I raced out and searched Hicknor Hill and parts of Hut Wood. Paula searched the other end of Hut Wood. If he was heading back down towards Rownhams or the services, there are copses running all the way down the side of the motorway. See OS map if anyone has one. The police have been given updates and reiterated phone numbers. The foster home is at Bishops Waltam but he was only there for 4 days. Is it possible he is somehow trying to make it back? How would he have this knowledge?

Posters need to be put up in these areas. Please email me (deburs@onetel.com) as I have updated ones (but they now need updating again but perhaps we can mark over with the new location)

Dog Lost have advised me that even if a dog doesn't know the area, they will keep coming back to the point where they were lost. I didn't know this. I will go to the exact spot today where he was lost - just up from the underpass but I know Caz has already been there this morning.Last edited: 2012-06-10 11:43:34 by deburs

Thank you Caz. The keeper in his experience thinks that dogs who don't know the area and have no base here, will just carry on and on running away - and the fact there have been no new sightings may suggest this. I have asked doglost to send another alert out to other regions now. The head of rescue believes that dog generally stay in a triangle around where they were lost though. Does anyone have any experience with this?

We just need a sighting then I can rush down there asap. So frustrating of course.
Caz
We did Longdown and Deerleap today from 7.30am-10, under the railway (wellies needed for anyone driving down tomorrow!), across the plain/field and towards the bridge over the tracks at Deerleap, detoured to the second bridge over the railway and back through Deerleap Inclosure itself, parallel to train tracks, and back through to Longdown - no sightings, sorry.
Would be an idea to bring more posters are some are water damaged after the rain (even tho' protected in plastic). Good luck to everyone else out looking today, hoping for positive news soon.
janet
The Doglost poster and details above these messsages has been updated with correct location now so anyone can print these posters off.
I can do early tomorrow morning if anyone else can. Who is co-ordinating this?

Wanna know a few words in Greek that you can say yo a dog? The following words should be practiced.... saying the words softly at first, almost 'singing them' But do its while crouching sown and not looking at him (if he is in vicinity 'Ella tho ('tho' pronounced as in doh, re, ma etc) agapi mou (mou = moo),ella kouklos... bravo pedi mou, pola areo kouklos,..... Rough translation of the words: 'Come here my little love, come beautiful doll, my bravo child, very sweet boy......'' If he doesn't run off, then a firm slap on the thigh (YOUR thigh) and without looking at him saying firmly: ella, pame (lets go), maybe casually dropping a few treats behind you as you walk.... As you can see, I'm grasping at straws....please let there be a positive sighting today!!Last edited: 2012-06-10 08:18:52 by Mala

P.S. How can the word 'SIGHTED@ be removed from the poster on Dog Lost page..... and Cadnam removed & replaced with Ashurst??? Also, it says he is not tagged, but I believe he has a green plastic tag on his collar, not that anybody can get close enough to him to read it.... unless.....
Mala
Buster has been missing for 10 days and now we learn that the information given (in regard to where exactly he went missing) and put on Dog Lost, the posters, local radio etc etc was incorrect? I pray (and I'm not religious) there will be another sighting in the next few hours or tomorrow morning...... I just hope he keeps away from the road & railway. I will change the details on the poster I made and will save the file as jpg, so if anybody wants a copy (if they are able to print the poster & distribute them) they can email me at: info@greekanimalrescue.com

How many people can make a Monday meet? I won't be able to as I have to work (I work from home soI can do lunchtime only) I really feel the best times are very very early in the morning - like 5 - 6 - 7 or very late at night when it is dark. I really feel confidently shouting Buster Ella! or Ella Buster! will bring him forward - we are not cooing or fussing and even fearful dogs do respond to confident commands when they hear one. He needs to be brought out of hiding. Last edited: 2012-06-09 19:15:53 by deburs

Vets have been informed by Paula
deburs
The detail needs to be clarified. The dog went missing just up the hill as you go under the railway underpass between Longdown and Deerleap, not in the carpark and not the overpass at the bottom of deerleap. There is an axis which can be plotted from here from Marchwood (pub unknown) over the forest, over the line and right down to the Cottage on Soton Road. The additional sightings at the church are nowhere near the deerleap car park.

There is a meet planned for Monday. I have no further info until Mala telephones.

National Rail have been informed but does anyone know how communication is given to the drivers because they need to look out for him on the tracks as I can only see so far down the line in places. Please go back to the underpass if anyone is around there. I went there today and called.

Blanket and trap untouched at Church/Farm area

Cadnam is completely incorrect and this needs removing from all info. Last edited: 2012-06-09 19:17:02 by deburs

Also spoke to a photographic group at Bolton's Bench Lyndhurst who took a photo of the poster I had !! The leader of the group was a dog lover and was going to put photo on his web site. The more people who know the better.

Myself, my other half and dog walked the cycle route in Deepleap enclosure this morning handing out pieces of paper I had typed the contact phone numbers on to anyone who walked there regularly. Interestingly enough some had seen the poster some had not so I showed them. Everyone very concerned.
Mala
Kelsey79...... YES, a map needs to be marked as regards where the sightings were.... the road Buster may have used to get from A to B. I've had to re-arrange everything but I hope to be in Deear Leap car park by 8pm tomorrow night.... at the latest.... Any/all volunteers to meet on Monday morning (Deburs will post the time)and we can co-ordinate the search, each of us going to a different area, talk to shop owners, walkers, private houses, farms, pubs etc etc.... I want to buy a large scale map of the whole area as soon as I get there, but may not find anything open till Monday morning, but Deburs probably has one anyway.
Caz
Presumably the 'church' sighting was at Colbury? That's the nearest church to Deerleap.
Caz
First thing this morning we walked around perimeter of Longdown/Deerleap, down to the train tracks, and then round and up into Ipley inclosure. No sightings, but saw a good few posters up. Will try Busketts tomorrow. Good luck everyone.

I will try and get down to the area sometime over the weekend with my other half,if there is a bigger search arranged I will try and get a lift down to the area, In the meantime I'll contact as many friends in the area to keep an eye out for him and keep checking in here for updates x

Kelsey - Paula is going to the Barracks today - thank you for that.

Today it is best if everyone does their own searches around the places below. There is no coordinated search at present

If he's been sighted in Marchwood is it worth getting a few posters down to the Army barracks, alot of the soldiers run for miles in the new forest and surrounding areas x
deburs
Advised Paula to add listings to Alfies Lost Do, Pet Register. Mala - I think we do need a Facebook page now. The truth is going to come out sooner or later either way and FB is one of the best tools for sharing

Please note, two days ago there was a sighting near a pub in Marchwood as well. This means a wider search area of the L shaped Deerleap Lane and Southampton Road and East towards Marchwood. It's expanding but there are no new sightings. He was lost near railway lines Mala. Kirsty, the entrances to Buskets inc are around Hotel Terravina.
Kirsty
I couldn't find the entrance to Busketts inc., and ran out of time . Will print some more later and go back with my map. I'll go to Deerleap car park at 6.30, if anyone wants to meet me there.
Mala
Has he been seen anywhere near railway lines??
I've re-sent a request to http://www.newforestdog.org.uk/ to air Buster's disappearance & appeal for help with the search iof the area.

Hello everyone....big thanks to you all for your help :-)
deburs is keeping you all well informed so no new news. spoke to the farmer just after10pm and the trap has all been set and ready. his next check will be at 5am... fingers crossed x
deburs
Skinnyhound - thank you for doing Jolleys and Creature Comforts. Mala - FYI they are in Totton nearest big town apart from Lyndhurst. I think places in Lyndhurst should be postered too.

Also the actual location where Buster went missing 10 days ago was not Deerleap Carpark. It was the UNDERPASS tunnels which run underneath the train line between Deerleap and Longdown Inc. NOT the bridge over the railway line at the bottom of the Deerleap open section. It might be worth going back to the actual location of where he went missing.

The petting farm is Longdown Farm on Deerleap Lane. SO40 7EH The Church is the only church at the top of Deerleap Lane. SO40 7EH. There are woods behind it where he was spotted some days ago. I will get the name of these tomorrow. The cottage is Lodgehill Cottage on Southampton Road SO43 7BU which back onto Busketts Lawn and Inc - he could well be in these areas now and no longer anywhere near Deerleap Inc. Note these are nowhere near Cadnam as per a poster I saw.

I have been out until 11pm this evening at LodgeHill Cottage, Ashurst behind the Happy Cheese, Deerleap, the Church, the Buskett inc entrances and this time, with agreement, I have been deeply and forcefully calling Buster Ella!!! and Ella Buster!!! (excuse my Greek. but apparently that means Come) In my experience from my own fearful dog, they do not react well to cooing noises, and soft tones hence why each time he has been spotted, they have made an approach like this and apparently, he just runs off. But they do respond to confident commands so that is what I have chosen to do this evening. I feel given the chance (because two nights ago he was calling out), that he will respond to a confident deep voice of Buster Ella! or Ella Buster. It is very hard to walk around these places and not say anything and I wanted to try something else. I have been calling this out and waiting to listen for barks or howls.

I have left my female's unwashed blanket underneath the shed at the back of the Church.

I want to personally concentrate on the back of Busketts Inc where there are fire breaks which run all the way down to the Lodgehill Cottage. He was actually at the REAR of this cottage which backs into this Inclosure, two nights ago.

NB no sightings last night or all day today. The campsite at Ashurst is busy and noisy. I think he would avoid this area.

Paula has walked the ditches along Deerleap Lane but it would be worth doing it again. The issue is there are also ditches running the full length of the Southamptn Road too.

How many helpers are there supposed to be in these area? How many people were emailed? NFDOG needs another email. Wave 105 is also a station. I can't get to do all these things. I have been out for 3 or 4 days I think so far morning, lunchtime and night. I need some help. Paula is doing all she can too. Last edited: 2012-06-08 23:49:58 by deburs

P.P.S. Since I don't know the area at all, it would help if the exact locations of sightings are mentioned... for example, what is the 'petting farm's' actual name and what's the name of the road it's on.... area/postcode..... I wanted to include this info in my email to FMDOG.
Mala
P.S. The details about the radio station I mentioned below are of NFDOG !!!!! I've just written to Kate again.
Mala
Mala is one of our 8 dogs (from Greece) - my real name is Vesna, who founded GAR in 1989. I was going to come down to the New Forest this Sunday - after our annual 'Sponsored Dog Walk' (what a day to pick, but it was booked 3 months ago) with the person who has the camper but it conked out 2 days ago. The back-up plan was to use my husband's transit van.... all very well, but I only have a licence to drive an automatic. The person who has the camper and accompanied the dogs from Greece (on the trip Buster came) could drive it, but I can't get hold of her right now........... I feel like screaming, seems everything is jinxed..... I don't know anybody else who could come with me; I live in North London..... My hubby was going to take a week off work (to look after our dogs) and the plan was for me and N to drive to the New Forest on Sunday afternoon and be there till Friday, checking in at a camp site for a few hours during the day (to have a shower & some sleep), but as of right now, nothing is definite, though I'd be there NOW if I could be. In any case, the bushes & ditches a few hundred feet either way from the skid marks should be checked.

Deburs: If the skid marks have been on the road for a few days, they can't have any connection with Buster (maybe somebody avoiding to hit a fox?) if he was definitely sighted yesterday morning. The worry is the busy road and Buster beginning to move from area to area running by the side of the road. A car light flashing, a tooting horn..... that would be enough to spook him and possibly cross the road at a 'wrong time'.

I contacted ~ The Park - Truly Local Radio for the New Forest Listen on 96.9FM and on-line at www.thepark.fm ~ who aired an appeal to look out for and report any sightings of Buster..... I will contact them again.... if there's another radio station, I hope that whoever called them before can do so again.

Mala someone from Greek Rescue was coming down in a camper van for a few days? Are they here now? The person who brought him over?

I have to have night off tonight as I very tired. I said to Paula that there were skid marks x 3 down the Deerleap Road and that the ditches need to be checked. I have driven up and down with my hazards on going very slowly about 6 time over the past few days but it would be best if this is done walking down this road during daylight

I put a poster into the newsagent at Ashurst and advised Paula to put posters up behind the Happy Cheese - at the other end of the Deerleap Inc. If he has made it as far as the lodge, THEN this backs onto another inclosure called Busketts and we need more posters to be pinned up there. I don't have anymore until I see Paula again but someone else can collect some off Paula in her car. Can s/o do this and go and pin posters up at Busketts inc opposite telephone box AND Busketts Lawn where the cricket pitch is? Paula is leaving tonight late so can someone catch up with her to get more posters and get any more news for here please?

The trap is set for tonight but obviously only in the one location on the petting farm.

I have told everyone I have met to NOT talk to or at him and not to look at him, but to drop food quietly in complete silence and then take a judgement call on grabbing him if he is very close. I know this is of utmost importance that no one is to talk to him or to act excited that they have seen or located him. His fear is still getting the better of him at the moment but he wants to find help. What came of the news annoucement? Who did the NFDOD email and can you contact them for another one because that is how I heard about this and plenty of people on this list understand fearful dogs very well. I don't feel it is my place to do this. The action on sending out another NFDOG email has to come from his carers.Last edited: 2012-06-08 19:53:43 by deburs

PLEASE, NOT THE FACEBOOK!!!! I couldn't handle right now calls from Greece (from the person who rescued & cared for him) how Buster could have gone missing etc... Besides, I think Dog Lost is a better place to co-ordinate such actions. Also, it's not wise to have too many people walking around calling his name etc..... he would 'go to ground' and not be seen. Searching for possible places where he could have spent hiding out/sleeping is what's needed, talking to farmers, shop keepers, walkers etc, keeping an eye out for possible sightings..... I feel so helpless!!!!!!!!!!!!!
deburs
Yes I worry the same. I know about his doggy friend as well. It's very upsetting. I will take some bedding today of my females to put under the shed. The carpark of Deerleap is about 1/2 mile from the church. I think he is attempting move towards people and homes and that is away from deerleap car park. Really we need to coordinate something either here or on facebook (if you want) to get people together to walk the outbuildings.
Mala
The worry is that he is not street-wise and has never lived near or had to cross any roads (in Greece), so a couple of wrong steps could get him hit by a car. When I read that 'whining' was heard, I wondered if he was/is injured and cried because he's in pain. If those who go to search sheds etc can take with them any old blankets, unused jackets, towels etc, they could be later checked for hair. Those who have a dog(s) should let them lie on the blankets etc and have them rubbed all over their bodies, then put in plastic bags (to 'preserve' the scent) and taken to sheds etc. What about the church.... and places around there where Buster could be seeking shelter? I hope he comes back there & car park and that food is left around there in several places. The person who rescued Buster in the first place still doesn't know he's lost.... I'm watching the incoming calls (numbers), keeping off facebook...... I feel dreadful..... I know everybody is doing their utmost to get Buster safely out of the scary woods and I'm grateful, but the weather is making matters much worse....
deburs
Paula is having the petting farm do a trap tonight
deburs
We all look under the sheds every day - there about about 3 with gaps. No bedding has been left for him - that is a good idea. Paula is back down here now but I am at home working so can only go out again after 5. I would like to know if we can get a group together to search outbuildings of the properties because there are a lot. I left a message about this on the 013xxx number
deburs
It's a fair distance - 3km as I have just measured it on my OS map. The way he would make it there would be by either walking along a busy and fast, but very dark main road to Lyndhurst, through Ashurst which is a little town with many houses and onwards, right down. It's very odd but the homeowner did verify him by collar before he ran off from the porch. So either that or he would have to cross over this road, go into a new inclsoure (called Busketts) and then follow the firebreaks down towards Lyndhurst or he could go through Deerleap inclosure, pop out at Ashurst but still have to carry on on the main roaad, as there is a railway line as well to cross elswhere. It is odd, he did not stop at Ashurst where there are many many houses, more pubs etc.

It's not a farm - it's called Lodgehill Cottage - nearly at Lyndhurst on the main road. If you have an OS map, you can see itLast edited: 2012-06-08 13:26:24 by deburs

How far from Deer Leap car park is the farm where Buster was sighted yesterday morning and heard crying? Sama question re little church..... where are the sheds where he may be taking shelter from rain and have any blankets/bedding been left for him so they can be checked for hair etc, confirming (or not) that he was there?

Walked in the woods behind the church this morning (with my friendly dog). Drove past most of the houses down Deerleap Lane looking into porches. Drove down to Ashurst, had a drive around there and out to where he was see yesterday a long way down Soton Road. Went back to Church and then to Deerleap. Does anyone know if the campsite on the Soton Road has been contacted? If not, I will ring them but don't want to duplicate efforts.Last edited: 2012-06-08 09:02:21 by deburs

Didnt mean to suggest wild as in aggressive. I was taking the description from someone else, in that all eye contact and speaking at him is to be avoided because he is so fearful but is finding courage to hang about homes and dog walkers.
Skinnyhound
Have printed out a poster to give to a friend who has land at the back of the woods and church.
they have a barn and her husband is there all day this week, will let them know to keep a look out.
Mala
He is not 'wild', but has been through a bad trauma a few months ago from which he never completely recovered. A few days before coming over he was put on some tablets (natural) and on the day he arrived in the UK and I saw him, his tail was 'waving' (not tucked in between his legs)..... of course he has been without these tablets since 30 May, thus his fears of people have returned, his anxieties worsened in the alien environment and terrible weather conditions. I'm most concerned for his safety and trying to remain positive, but it's not easy.
deburs
Carol I must have just met you. I went down to Longdown to scout out the houses around there. There has also been a sighting on Southampton Road nr the Golf Course at 1am but this is odd because it is much further away and backs onto a different area.

I am meeting Paula in a mo (it's 17.30) to sit out at laybys crossing the Deerleap Road and Paula is going to meet the farmer where he was heard whining early this morning. Meeting at Deerleap carkpark in about 30 mins in case anyone wants to comes down to sit out.

Apparently he is still very nervous and 'gone wild' now and no one can approach. Last edited: 2012-06-07 17:23:45 by deburs

first i would like to thank everyone for helping me look for buster...he is a very sweet dog and missed greatly.
when i got home today from the new forest i had 1 call and 1 text saying that buster was seen at 9.30pm and about 10pm near deerleep carpark. he was crossing the road and both times went into the church yard... if anyone can spare the time to look in that area for me because i can't get down till about 5pm i would be very greatfull. thank you

Went for a walk here today in the afternoon. Spoke to quite a few people walking their dogs. Handed out a few posters to people who hadn't already seen it. One lady is going to put one up at her local shop nearby. The area is huge, so fingers crossed he doesn't wander off too far.

Message has been left with The Happy Cheese in case he wanders that way instead. I checked whether contact had been made at the Wildlife Park in case he wanders over there.
Mala
I made two posters alerts about Buster (shortened & longer version) and I can email them to anybody who contacts me at: info@greekanimalrescue.com .... I know the person in Greece who rescued Buster and persuaded her to let us find a loving home for him in the UK (I haven't had the courage to tell her that he's lost)...... He arrived in the UK only on 26 May and went to his foster home on the same day.... He had been through a BIG trauma in his young life, which is why we wanted to take time finding a permanent home for him. His foster mum and lots of other people have worked very hard to get him to 'surrender', so to speak, but he is VERY nervous of people and the horrible weather hasn't helped matters. It's crucial to try to keep him from wandering off, to keep leaving food in Deer Leap car park though the food left there last night (next to a Tshirt which accompanied him on the journey from Greece) was untouched this morning and there have been no sightings all day.....
Kirsty
Thought I might take a walk here tomorrow, I only live a few miles away.

For those not wired up with tom-tom to take you into the car park, follow the signs for the Owl and Wildlife Centre on the A35, well signposted. Just past the entrance to the Centre on your left look over to the right there is a winding beach type shingle driveway only a few yards past the Centre, this is the entrance to the car park. Nice area for dog walking. Hope someone can go and give a hand as he appears to be still in this area.

Myrle - I have a dog trap if it becomes feasible to use it, unfortunately as those who have been involved in catching animals in this kind of open area it is of no use generally unless they decide to camp in one area. Will try to get down Saturday to the area Buster has been sited with Millie who was one of her travelling companions I will also bring the red teashirt his fosterer in Athens gave him to travel with.
Myrtle
I am in the New Forest and helped to coordinate the search for Wolfie the Greek dog that went missing in this area 2 years ago. Putting up posters and getting the word out locally is vital - will distribute some posters for you and will circulate our volunteers to join the search (southern counties gsd rescue)- hope he is found safe and well soon!
Mala
Knowing Buster's background, he would more likely allow himself to be approached by friendly dogs than people he doesn't know..... eye contact should be avoided, but carrying a few treats and a slip leas would help, but to be used only by experienced dog owners. If Buster didn't run off straight away, I would suggest the person crouches down or sits on the ground.... he just might be persuaded to get closer. He's not street-wise and wouldn't know where to look for food, so hunger may persuade him to get closer to people. Alternatively, a dog trap may be the only way of catching him safely. I feel so helpless, as I live in North London and with 8 dogs to take care of, I can't just up & leave and spend a few days in the area, leave trails of food and keep watch & sleep in my car.... not sure it would be very safe either. I would certainly encourage regular walkers who want to help to carry a tin of dog food (in gravy - easier to spoon out) with them and if he's sighted, tap the tin with the spoon, put out a few bits and walk slowly away, but keep watch from distance. I'm suggesting this so that he can be encouraged to stay in the area until an opportunity came to catch him safely. Thank you everybody who is helping to catch this sweet gentle but scared boy.

I so hope this gorgeous little one is home soon. Stay safe Buster. xx

Hello everyone I'm in Norfolk so can't do much in the way of practical stuff. I have been asked to point out that Buster is only 10kg so much smaller than the pictures may indicate. He is very, very nervous so anyone who sees him please do not approach but phone one of the contact numbers immediately! He does have a tag on his collar which is for Juliet at Greek Animal Rescue and I doubt he is tatooed I think there has been a slight registration error ... understandably in the circumstances :)
If he is thought to be staying in the area of loss then please can someone consider a trap - it is probably the only way this poor very very nervous little doggie will be caught :( He is also many miles away from the home he has only known since Saturday!

There has been a sighting this morning very close to the place he went missing. Now we know to continue looking there. It was close to Deerleep Car Park, Langley Woods, SO40 4UH. We were right there this morning, unfortunately the call just came in. Paula, (Buster's foster carer) is back there now looking.
shoot the owner
This is distressing, my husband brought him over with others on his last trip and feels like he has lost one of his own. He is a pretty looking boy and will be very bewildered, he is a softie. Unfortunately he is off over to Greece again Monday so cannot get down to help. Fingers crossed he will approach someone and be handed back.
