have you seen Reuben at North Clwyd Animal rescue. He is not microchipped. But having had 2 microchips go missing in 2 dogs I would not hold much store by that. http://www.ncar.org.uk/portfolio/rueben/

Telford Hoax Alert

DogLost have checked with Telford Police, who confirmed that the current chain message about their raid on a traveller site with the RSPCA is a hoax. Calls to them about this are wasting police time, so please check facts before re-sending or acting on 'scare' messages like this one.
Kendie
Not sure if this is true or a hoax but I'm passing it on just in case ....PLEASE READ AND PASS ON!!! Telford police and the RSPCA Have done a joint raid on a traveller site in Telford Shropshire, they have seized loads of dogs, some have micro chips, some not! There are 6 huskys, some springers, staffys, sprockers, and more breeds, believed to have been stolen from Derbyshire, Staffordshire, all areas, please ring Telford police or the RSPCA! And give them your micro chip number, they have dogs there with chips but no owners have come forward, Telford Shropshire

It's been almost a year since Jake went missing. I think about him often and wondering if he's been found. I so hope he's found somewhere nice to live.

THE SCANNER WOULDN'T WORK SO STILL NONE THE WISER. WOULD THINK IF JAKE STILL ALIVE HE IS HOPEFULLY SITTING IN FRONT OF SOMEONES FIRE & HOPEFULLY WHEN SCANNED WE WILL GET HIM BACK.

The following has been posted on Jake's Facebook page ...

Thanks for letting me join your group. I just wanted to let you know a Beddie has been picked up by a dog warden in Glous area and she's posted on Dog Pages asking for a Beddie rescue but given no details. Says this dog isn't chipped but in light of the recent events ragarding a lady I know who runs a large rescue and her search for 9 years for her missing 'chipped' dog who has been traced at last and was rehomed via Dogs Trust without it being flagged up as reported missing thought I'd let you know. Here's a link to the post made by the DW. may be worth asking her for more details.... http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=258779

Thanks Feab, the colour seemed to fit aswell. I am not sure how far away he was found but I thought I had better post it in case..really hope Jake's owner's will see my post! I hope he is found soon.
Feab
I'd say that was a bedlington thats not been trimmed for a good few months, definitely. Saw a couple of scruffy ones at a show recently that looked similar. Got two beddies myself, and once you're used to them they're easily recognisable.

Hello there found this dog on Stray Aid, my sincere apologies if this isn't a Bedlington Terrier, but as it was bluey grey and quite overgrown I thought I would post it anyway.http://www.strayaid.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4624:nd041-12&catid=11:coxhoe&Itemid=17

I am praying with all my heart that this is not Jake
Kendie
Fingers crossed it's not Jake. As you say it doesn't add up with the sightings at Keele and Newcastle.
JAKES MOM & DAD
WE HAVE FOUND A SKELETON ON THE CANAL TOW PATH HACK GREEN AREA OF NANTWICH, JAKES AND A FOX'S LOOK THE SAME. THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES ME THINK ITS NOT JAKE IS THE CLAWS ARE SHARP AND WHITE AND JAKE'S WERE BLACK. (ALTHOUGH NOT SURE IF THEY WOULD CHANGE COLOUR WHEN THEY DIE)THIS WOULD TIE IN WITH A BOATERS REPORT FEW MONTHS AGO OF A DOG & A FOX IN THE CANAL AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ICED OVER AT THE TIME JAKE WENT MISSING. JAKES VET WILL LEND US A SCANNER ON MONDAY. FINGERS CROSSED IT ISN'T HIM, AS ALL SIGHTINGS IN KEELE & NEWCASTLE WOULD NOT ADD UP. :( THE VET IS NOT HOPEFUL DUE TO THERE NOT BEING MUCH SKIN LEFT EVEN IF THE CHIP WILL BE THERE STILL. I know this is a bit of a long shot but I have seen a dog twice now within the last few weeks, most recently today, in Liverpool at bottom of Scotland road towards the city centre. I thought it looked like a small rough coated lurcher (kind of like an irish wolfhound but much smaller) however could possibly be a bedlington like Jake if he has been missing a while and the coat has become unkempt? I think he had a collar a bit like the one in the picture too. It is a long way from where he went missing and also did look fairly well fed to be a stray but thought it would be worth a mention if there's anyone in the area who could check it out. Both times sighted at around 5.30pm on my way home from work so could possibly be someone's dog who they let roam as some owners do. I was searching dogs lost for any dogs who matched the description so thought I would mention. Thanks
DogLostMillypod (Chris) - Administrative Volunteer
I too check to see if theres any news on Jake. hopefully one day his chip will be scanned and he will be home.Lots of eyes on here still looking.x

This morning tv programme have posted this on their website....

This Friday we’re intending to feature an item on missing pets. So if you’ve lost a pet, or think you’ve had one stolen, let us know and we might be able to feature them in our missing pets gallery. Email thismorning@itv.com with some good shots of your missing pet and a few details that might help: when you last saw your pet, any distinguishing marks, habits or characteristics. Maybe it was wearing a particular collar. We need your emails by 5.00pm Thursday the 10th May. http://www.itv.com/thismorning/life/reuniting-lost-pets-with-owners/

Sorry that there's been no more news, and that the Porthill sighting was probably by the sound of it a false alarm. Just to say that I for one am still looking whenever I set foot outside the door.
JAKES MOM & DAD
No more news :( there is a Bedlington that does roam in Porthill area, that also looks scruffy. I will replace all posters & keep everything crossed he is still alive. We had a hoax call from a child yesterday saying he had Jake in Ashley & wanted to know about the reward, it's sad that people do this. Thanks eveyone for your continued support.

Hi there, I am very sorry to hear about Jake. I came across your page as I have lost my dog (lucky) who is also a 7 year old Bedlington. My thoughts are with you as I know it is devastating. I hope Jake has a safe return, and I have every thought that he will! Take care and best Wishes, Jodie :)

Thank's Kendie, We will go to Wolstanton to have a look around the area and to put a poster up in the Asda store, just in case it is Jake !!
Kendie
I put up a poster in the Dingle which is a little park off Inglewood Drive and one on First Avenue. I've been driving around the area as I live close by. I heard on the traffic news there was a dog on the loose near to Asda Wolstanton - that was about 5.30 today and they were warning motorists. No idea what sort of dog but that isn't far from where Jake was last seen. I've also told a few of my neighbours who walk their dogs and given them a poster. I wish he would show himself again so we know the area to target.
wrighty
Any info yet ,is there any area we can poster ? if not we will put posters up around porthill area tommorrow/weekend.

My partner is a taxi driver, and works around the Newcastle area 10 hrs a day. He is keeping his eyes peeled, and has a poster in his car. He is sooo close to being caught. Well done on the sighting. That's such great news. We will have a scout around Westport Lake too, as we walk there twice a week. Always have a spare lead in my bag...you never know???Come on Jakey. x

I've updated the FB page and posted it on a few local FB pages http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/132743640185477/ Will try and catch the postman and catch some dog walkers. This is fantastic news that Jake has been sited again! Please let him meet up with one of his searching friends soon and get home where he belongs.we watch this site daily and can't wait to hear he has been reunited!

That is just a street or so from where I live - I can't believe he was so close! I can put some poster up around here. Glad he's been seen again. He one tough little cookie.

WE ARE AWAY AT PRESENT AND A FRIEND IS LOOKING AFTER THE JAKE PHONE. HE HAS BEEN SIGHTED ON THURSDAY IN FIRST AVE PORTHILL NEWCASTLE NOT SURE OF TIME. SHE WENT STRAIGHT UP AND COULD NOT FIND HIM. HE WAS VERY DIRTY & BEDRAGGLED. CAN'T BELIVE HE IS STILL OUT
emmalouise
if the food is always being eaten is there someway you can find out if it is jake?
maybe leaving something down for the animal to step on and see the print?
or perhaps try putting a crate nearby if anyone has one and his blankets? if it was jake you'd imagine he might sleep in there
Kendie
I'm still looking and I keep leaving food every morning in the little wooded area by the old entrance. It always goes but I have no idea what/who eats it. However I'm not in work on Friday and all next week so will not be able to leave any food out. I feel awful if it is Jake coming to eat the food. It's also gone much quieter at Keele now the students have gone so there might not be as much rubbish food left out.
BBKM
Me too, I keep looking on here for any news and still checking lots of found dog websites, lets hope there is some news of Jake very, very soon x

trail seems to have gone quiet again. Is there anything at all we can be doing to help until the next sighting ?
Gaynor
Still continuing to look out for Jake on a daily basis when I'm out and about. Just wish there was another sighting so that we could all get back on the trail.
BBKM
I too keep checking Jake's page everyday. Lets hope you get a sighting soon. Someone may have him so they will have to wait until it is later to take him out, now the nights are brighter, or they may only let him out in their garden at night. You are doing brilliant updating posters etc. Fingers crossed someone somewhere sees him soon xx Stay safe Jake xx
wrighty
we keep checking on here everyday, hoping for new info on jake ,ready to help when needed!your doing a great job kendie.fingers crossed for a sighting or more info on jake.
Kendie
I did a 5 mile lap around Keele on Saturday. My Dad cycled around on Sunday. I also walked through the woods and around the lakes on Monday lunchtime. I did think there would be more sightings now the hour has changed and it's lighter at nights. I'm still leaving food out in the morning close to the entrance. The students leave at the of this week so it will be much quieter around the University so he may venture out more in the day.
JAKES MOM & DAD
No we have had no further inf, yes Kendie good idea will update posters saying still missing, to be honest we had no response at all from The Sentinel ad which seems odd. I keep thinking someone must have him now & we won't get him back until he goes to the vets & gets scanned. I am making my way round Newcastle replacing the posters. Everyone I speak to say's about Jake so it is well known he is missing but no recent sightings:(
Meggy67
There seems to have been little movement on the forum over last few days, which is dismaying. Have there been any more sighting or clues to Jake's whereabouts? I have some time off next week, and would be glad to help if it were needed? I could get up to Keele in the early hours and have a scout about, and post more flyers if needed.
Kendie
The poster on the tree just as you go down the side of Keele Hall to the lake has been ripped off. It's still on the floor but we had nothing to put it back up with. I'd got some posters with me but nothing to attach it to a tree. I've put one on the frame of the information board just as you get to the lake.
Meggy67
Am checking this page everyday..My heart goes out to you both. We have a 10yr old Bedlington bitch, and would be devastated if she was lost. I have alerted everyone about your plight, and am also looking around Keele whenever in the area. Also lots of Keele students are aware and keeping eyes open for him. I have circulated the details to people in the areas he was last seen. Praying for Jake's safe return. Stay hopeful and keep searching. I'm happy to help in any way.Last edited: 2012-03-23 17:55:11 by Meggy67
Kendie
I've still been walking around Keele in my lunchtimes looking. I still put food in the little wood at the entrance. With the lighter nights coming hopefully there will be more sightings. I wonder if there should be an updated notice with something that mentions - been missing for x amount of weeks and still missing in March 2012. That way people would know he's still missing.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Re the inf that Jake is in Silverdale, done a few days digging & put up more posters as they had all been removed, think this is the problem now as people assume we have him back & they are being removed. Would appear there is a male with a female Beddlington in Silverdale & no one has seen anyone with a new Bedlington that I spoke to. Shop owners aware of information & will keep eye out for Jake.
BBKM
Keep checking Jake's page, lets hope you get another sighting or if someone does have him, he is recognized xx

Hi Jake's mom and dad, why dont you ask the area co-ordinator if poster alerts can go out to helpers in the silverdale area its more eyes looking.
Kendie
I've posted an update on the FB group and someone who lives in Silverdale has said she will keep an eye out for possible sightings of Jake.
The FB group is http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/132743640185477/

How recent was this sighting, as Jake was seen about a week ago and was still loose then? How easy is it to gain CCTV footage of the area? Sorry just trying to think of any way to find himLast edited: 2012-03-20 20:33:26 by Meryl
JAKES MOM & DAD
Mark has had inf that Jake is in the Silverdale area, was seen being walked by a man near The Parade where the shops are & appeared slightly agitated as though didn't want to be with him. This could be a mistake & may not be Jake.
Although I think someone must have taken him in by now & are just going to keep him. We will go to Silverdale & do some digging at the shops & put up more posters as they were done there some weeks ago in this area. Kathryn
Kendie
I so hope this is Jake and you are reunited very soon. I keep coming and checking on the page for updates! I gave security a quick call before I left work and apparently there is a Springer Spaniel gone missing today at Keele and he's called Jake as well !

PS I've not left any food out tonight

Not sure what I think as surely we would have had more sightings. The other dog that was caught in the trap was at the same place every morning for about 6 weeks. The area Jake is covering is large & on occasions he is not sighted for 2 weeks, it all seems very odd as there are plenty of people who know he's missing & walkers with dogs in the area. I hope it is him that has been seen & Jayne at security is always looking out for him but she has only sighted him the week after he went missing & she is always panning the cameras round for him. It is all very strange & to be honest I don't know what to think anymore.
I think the dog trap will be the only way to get him but we need to pin him down to a definate area & try to get the one with the plate on the floor.
Kendie
Had a thought. Where the track goes in Barkers Wood the animal goes under a wire fence. I wonder if it would be possible to put something on the bottom of the wire fence, like a comb or brush or even sticky tape to try and get some animal hair to see if it is Jake using the path.Last edited: 2012-03-18 20:40:39 by Kendie
Kendie
Been for a walk around Keele this afternoon. I’ve left some food in the little wood by the old entrance. I had a good walk around the new Phase III. I’ve followed all the little animal tracks around. I went down to the corner of Phase III that is close to Rosemary Hill Wood and house on Keele Bank. From there I followed the edge of the wood and fields along the animal tracks. Some of them are rabbit tracks and there is a huge area of rabbit warrens over on the far side. As I was walking back I noticed a very distinctive track in the distance leading up into the woods on the Keele side. I wandered over to the road and there is a regularly used track that leads from Barkers Wood (ideal for access to the Westlands), across the Phase III and up into Keele woods. I walked along the animal track to Barkers Wood and you can see where an animal goes through the fence (it’s right on the corner) and the animal track continues into the wood. I didn’t go into wood as I was on my own and didn’t fancy wandering around it. I then traced the track back to the road, across the road and up the other side to Keele woods. At the top of the track there were lots of feathers like a bird had been killed and eaten. The track would be perfect for Jake to move between the Westlands and Keele relatively un-noticed. I would guess the track has been used quite a bit in the last 24 hours as there is mud from the track on the pavements and following the rain over night it is quite muddy. I think a fox has used the track because where there are feathers there was a “present”. In fact there were two “presents” but it didn’t look like they were from the same animal – different consistency (is this too much information!). I thought perhaps they could have been marking their terriority. Anyway I’ve left some food in the area where the “presents” are. It’s in a piece of black plastic tube that I’ve propped up so it looks like a flower pot!.

If you want to go and check the track and perhaps into Barkers Wood the easiest way to find it is if you go into Phase III at the entrance but instead of going around the loop take the straight road to the right. You go through a set of open gates and on the left that is a grey box (probably for electric or something). The track is just before you get to that grey box and it goes both left and right and across the road. I’ve put a brick on top of an orange rice packet (amazing what you find on the floor!).

Definitely think it’s worth keeping an eye on the track. Once you get into Keele wood you are not far from the Observatory and several areas that Jake has been seen previously. I had a good walk around there.
I’ve put up a few posters. I’ve also been and checked on the den by Keele hall and put some of Jake’s food down that I found in the bag as there was none out.

I so wished he could have been found today. He needs to be home for mothers day!

Edited as hopefully I've done a google map with the track on http://g.co/maps/zfd9tLast edited: 2012-03-18 16:51:54 by Kendie

The shelter & scenting we have been doing since he has gone missing it's the one to the right of Keele Hall in the woods his bedding is there & we have left food, which catlady has been putting out when we can't get there.

We have had only 2 calls about the Liver Bedlington in Chesterton from The Sentinel ad. The reason the £1 is in as Jakes in the pet section For Sale & it's a mandatory field. Also for others to kiv it was £18.00 rather than £40 if you put in pet section rather than public notices. Would have thought would have had more response :(
JAKES MOM & DAD
The only problem with the dog trap the Greyhound trust have is the dog has to yank on a piece of meat & they said more often the animal managed to get the meat without setting the trap could do with ther one with the plate in the floor.
Would you believe we have been to see another Liver Bedlington tonight in Chesterton the finders were postive it was Jake but sadly not. They caught it this afternoon and were going to take it to the pdsa no collar.
Kendie
Not as far as I know but I don't think the screens are manned all the time. If Jake is keeping to the edges of campus he'll probably go un-detected anyway as the cameras are mainly in the area of the buildings. Last edited: 2012-03-17 19:24:49 by Kendie

Kendie,do you know if the security cameras on campus have ever picked Jake up?
wrighty
that all sounds like a good idea to me, thats what i would be thinking about. a trap might be best ,as he wont go to people.stay safe jake! everyone wants to see you back home.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Great ideas Katie and thank you for the contact for the trap :) When a trap is set it is best to camoflage with branches, leaves etc so it looks like a den and we also advise owners to put something in that smells of home, whether a blanket of Jakes or an item of clothing worn by one of the owners, socks are usually good for this or an old fleece jacket. Also to mix either the vacuum cleaner contents or owners urine (horrible thought but works very effectively) with a bottle of water and sprinkle it around the trap and in the surrounding area to tell Jake it is safe to stay there, this can also help narrow the triangle down too. Hopefully Jakes Mum & Dad will be on soon and we can see what they want to do x
Katie
Another idea might be to put something that belongs to Jake , like his teddy or his own blanket , or even his mum and dads jumper or something so he picks up his own scent in there
Katie
Im just trying to think of a way to narrow his little triangle down , by keeping all the things he needs in one area. Hopefully if this worked, we would restrict him crossing roads and things and we wouldnt have such a big area to search , as the probability would be that he would stay where he knew he had food and shelter
Katie
I was wondering if it might be worth making a little shelter near the sink , for example an old kennel , or building a little temporary wooden shelter and putting some blankets in . If it is Jake regularly coming to the sink, he might learn thats also a place close by where he can shelter. We could check the blankets regularly for grey fur
Katie
If you are struggling to get hold of a dog trap, Greyhound Gap Stoke on Trent kennels have one . We could ask if we could borrow that ? Heres the number :

Hi guys. in answer to your questions, Nieve the spanish water dog went missing on the 24th October, survived all that winter weather and kept herself safe - it is possible. I saw her yesterday and all she has is a scratch on her nose, remarkable!! Her territory was only realised last week, she was covering quite a large area but kept returning to the same people to be fed but no one could get near enough to catch her. On Saturday 10th March a trap was placed within her area, the kind with the plate that once the the animal is inside the door shuts, along with some smelly food. The first night a cat set the trap off. On Monday the owner visited the area (lives 70 miles away)and saw Nieve, gently called her name, Nieve looked and went the other direction. Early next morning Nieve was found in the trap, it had taken just 3 nights for her to be caught. I think the owner being in the area and spending time near the trap really helped, Nieve recognised her scent. Dogs on the run turn to their survival instincts and don't usually respond to their owners or their names, self preservation. As soon as Nieve was back with her owner she was licking her and crying and has not left her side since.

JAKES MOM & DAD, if you want to speak to Paul, the local man who organised and set the trap for Nieve, or her owner I can try and organise this for you. If you can see a clear pattern to Jakes movements a trap can be placed. Please let me know, everyone is willing to help in anyway we can. The people on this page have been amazing and you have some strong and reliable help which you will need if you set a trap. It will have to be checked at regular periods, 24/7, if an animal sets it off it needs to be released as soon as possible.

Please contact me on jackalee.doglost@hotmail.com if you want to contact Paul or Nieve's owner or contact Goldenfrodo, I think you have her number. Keep positive :)

seen advert in the sentinel tonight again got £ sign in middle I would push for free adverts next week but hopefully he will be home before then. Come on Jake time to go home.

Been and left a poster with the builders that are working on the old farmhouse at the entrance. They said they were in early, so I've asked if they could ring the number if they see anything. They are working up on the roof of the building as well so a perfect view over the new phase three. Also left a leaflet in the Hub. Again they have good views over phase three. Hoping for some positive news this weekend. Fingers, toes, arms, legs and everything else crossed !Last edited: 2012-03-16 13:24:21 by Kendie

i have got a feeling Jakes capture is imminent . I certainly hope so x
ractom
Hi, yes think they used one of those traps where the dog goes in and when it goes to the food, stands on a plate that closes the door.. Farmer where Nieve was living set it up..Jackalee DogLost co-ordinator NW will be able to tell you more :)
ClaireC
Hi, answer to your qiestion below you could always try emailing the Admin team on admin@doglost.co.uk and maybe the person that helped trap Nieve will get back to you with some suggestions. I would imagine that they put food in the dog trap and waited to see what turned up. I wish you good luck and I'm sure you will be successful.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Kendie, many thanks for all your help & support & everyone else. Can't believe how long he has been out now. I have looked at the triangle for the trap and it needs to be 500 m each way.
It said on the water spaniels page that had been gone for 5 months that a farmer trapped her but doesnt say how.
We have had no news from The Sentinel at all, yes I agree Kendie it's not very good especially how expensive it is to put it in I will get onto them.
Andi
Been following the story and hoping and praying since the beginning - live too far away to be regular help BUT if you are organising a sweep and need extra bodies, I am more than happy to make the journey and drive down and do whatever you need? Come on Jake, it's time to come home now lad x
Kendie
Mark - you should ask the Sentinel to re-insert it for free if they've gone a put a £1 sign in the advert. That's wrong as folk might think that's the reward you are offering. Been talking to Jane from security today and she is keen to help if needed for another search.
Kendie
I've posted details of Jake's FB group on Radio Stoke FB page, Signal Radio and Signal Breakfast page. I've posted on Westland page, Newcastle-under-Lyme page, Wolstanton page. I've posted it on Keele University FB page and the Students Union FB page. Jake's Facebook group has details of sightings, the poster and contact numbers. I'm just trying to circulate to a wider audience as possible. Any local folk think of anywhere else that might have a FB page where I could post it? I've also posted it out via twitter. JAKES MOM & DAD
Been to Windermere shops & Grasmere Ave areas and vicinitys & put up loads more posters. I thought the triangle should be a lot smaller before we put the dog trap in, I will do more research and look into it.
Kendie, many thanks for all your help but those paw prints were far too big for a bedlington, they have small whippet size feet and you would normally see the claws as well.
He is in The Sentinel for 3 nights ( not sure what the £1 is in the middle of it ?? not what he's worth I hope, although may get people to have a second look, must be a misprint) Thanks everyone for your continued support in our plight.
Also went to that house on Keele Bank there is a well worn path at the side of it that goes onto The Butts off Gallowstree Lane. The house is def void unfortunatley :( Last edited: 2012-03-15 17:42:10 by JAKES MOM & DAD

we will be there if there is a sweep of the area, or as quick as we can on next sighting.
Katie
I can be there Monday or Tuesday ? Have we got the trap yet ??
Kendie
Gaynor very well put. I too feel he’s in or around Keele/Westlands area and probably sleeping during the day and out early evening and through the night. The University will go quieter on the 30th March as majority of students will leave for vacation. They don’t come back until May. If he’s scavenging in bins, there could be less food/rubbish around. Also the undergrowth in the woods will start growing and making it more difficult to spot him. However I did notice a few rabbits when I was walking yesterday and I assume there are some up at Bunny Hill so it could be he’s surviving on those. Not sure how to go about finding him though unless a big group of people got together and did a sweep of the area.

I’ve been this morning at 8.30 and left some fresh chicken in the wood near the old entrance (thanks to my cat turning his nose up at it). Something has been and eaten it this morning as we’ve been back at lunch and there is just a little bit left. Will pop back tonight.

We could manage scramble a team of folk on Keele at short notice if you get a sighting on Keele during the day.
BBKM
Fantastic you have had another sighting. Brilliant work and very informative posting Gaynor. I agree with you. I too have just been pin pointing Jake's last 6 sightings on a google map. I have formed roughly 2 triangles, one covering a larger area then a much smaller one for his last 3 sightings. At 10am 16th Feb he was seen at the football fields nearer Keele, then no reported sightings until 7am 12th March at the house on Keele Bank and last known sighting 6pm 14th March Grasmere Ave. If you link these sightings they form a much smaller triangle. He may be staying within this area now if he is getting food. Hope this helps you. Maybe this is the area to focus on. I wish I lived closer so I could help you search for him, I am in the Durham area 178 miles away. Good luck everyone, praying you will have Jake in the blue very very soon x Stay safe Jake xLast edited: 2012-03-15 00:20:18 by BBKM

P.S. Sorry, I forgot to add that I'm in agreement too with everyone else about perhaps giving the trap a try in Kendie's Wood as I've called it! Happy to help with checking, late at night if necessary as long as someone will join me!
Gaynor
When you read a lot of the pages on this site about the different lost dogs there is a real theory often put forward by the Dog Lost staff that once a dog 'settles' in a certain area it then regularly covers a specific triangle, and this appears to be exactly what Jake is doing. Where he was seen this evening in Grasmere Avenue/Windermere Road is very close to the sighting several weeks ago at Bunny Hill. It would appear that he has a very regular patrol pattern, around Keele Village, through the campus, cutting across (possibly via the woods at rear of the house he was seen earlier this week and backing on to Paris Avenue/Geneva Drive/Newcastle Golf Course) to Roe Lane, the old Westlands area/Seabridge, Clayton/Bunny Hill. He probably goes back more or less the same way, in this sort of triangular journey. When he was seen at Edward Avenue a few weeks ago (in the same general vicinity of today's sighting, or at least not a million miles away) it was also late afternoon. At Bunny Hill he was seen at midnight. At Keele he has usually I think been seen early/mid morning. Is this his pattern? Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble, but those of you who also know the area well may be able to picture the route and agree with me there's a sort of pattern here? Perhaps overnight he does the bigger part of his triangle, from Bunny Hill back across and up to Keele .....after all these weeks he will have a routine which will allow him to know where to be when in order to get the best supplies to keep him going! It's great that there have been more sightings of Jake but so frustrating that nobody has been able to catch him yet. I'm also very happy to go on a rota for checking the dog trap and will keep looking for him during my lunch hours. I'm sure he'll be home safe and sound very soon.
jackie
Hi to Jake's mum and dad. I've been following this harrowing tale for a while now. I'm in Huddersfield and have a beautiful beddy called Wilf. Please know people are holding out for jake to come home,be positive and keep going. I have registered as a helper for my area now. are you familiar with bedlington banter forum, you may get some more help near you from there, and alot of support. trust he'll be home soon. Good luck. i will keep watching.
Kendie
I've hopefully done Jake a Facebook group to try and get as many local people aware that Jake is still missing.

Oh no ... so close again ! I've sent Mark an email with some photos of pawprints. Also I'd be more than happy to help with a rota for a dog trap and there will be others at Keele who will help as well.
Katie
Jake was seen at 6pm this evening running down grasmere avenue towards windermere road ! looking scruffy and matted , a lady tried to coax him to her but he crossed the road and ran !
rosie
I am happy to go on a rota to check a trap.Does someone have one locally?
Magnscruff
I don't know Jake or his owners but have been following this story for weeks now. I so want him to be found and I must say what a lot of hard working, caring people you all are who are helping to locate him.
Kendie
Just done a lap around the new science park and skirting around the woods that back onto Keele bank. Alot of the wooded area is quite well fenced in. Did notice a few gaps and tracks through though. Also I noticed some smallish relatively recent paw prints. I took a few photos and I'll try and email them through to you later tonight. It could have been someone out walking their dog.
Katie
maybe we could borrow the trap and draw up a little rota between us to keep checking it regularly ?
Goldenfrodo
Bumped due to sightings and being advertised again.
Hope this bring some good news xx
JAKES MOM & DAD
Mark been again early hours and says there are lights on at night at that house and they appear to have cctv so will knock on or put a note through to see if they have seen anything, but i thought it was void
wrighty
Knowing that Jake is still living and roaming around the same area for the last 2 months, maybe it is worth now borrowing the dog trap and putting it where Kendie is leaving the food,it is worth a try, I am sure that all the people that have looked and are helping to find Jake would not mind checking the trap. This is very good news that sightings of him have come through again.Last edited: 2012-03-14 09:40:03 by wrighty

Good news that he looked fit and active. He's obviously getting food from somewhere. Most of the food had gone last night from the wooded area near the old entrance, so we filled it up and it had all gone this morning. So I've filled up the plastic box again. I did think of replacing the box as it's a bit battered but thought probably best to leave it as I didn't want to change the scent.

There have been a few sightings of Jake around Keele at the weekend. What about trying to get together a group of people to do a sweep of the area again this weekend. I can help out.

Just been reading on facebook that the dog over at Ashton-in-Makerfield that we thought may have been Jake has been caught after 5 MONTHS out in the wild!!!! I've updated The University staff announce section with details of the recent sighting and with the contact number and asked if anyone sees Jake to contact the owners. This has bumped it back up the list. I've also mentioned it to one of the domestic staff that work on our building and they are around Keele early in the morning. I'll pass on a few leaflets to circulate to others. I'll pop down and check on the food on the way home.

Just a quick update. I've left a poster at Garners, The Garden Centre at Silverdale. They knew of Jake but had assumed he was home now! They've put the poster up by the tills (and I'd done it on yellow paper) so hopefully it will be seen by people popping into the Garden Centre. I said I would let them know when he is home safely.Last edited: 2012-03-13 18:10:58 by Kendie

Just been and put some food down and had a walk through the little wooded area to the small lake by the medical school. Food had all gone this morning so some more left. Bazil - one of the houses at the bottom of the bank has horses and those miniature sheltland ponies. I know the outbuildings you mean. Had a look while driving up the hill this morning at the fields and through the woods. Fingers and toes crossed for more sightings and he's found soon.

Brilliant news! I have just had a look at this house on Google earth and if you carry on down Keel Road with the house on your right towards the roundabout, past the edge of the woods, you can see an outbuilding behind the trees. Don't know if its stables or an unused/used barn/shed but if it hasn't already been checked it may be worth going in there and looking as this will be ideal for a den for Jake. Wishing you all the luck in the world JAKES MOM & DAD for tomorrow morning, so hope you find your boy x

Brilliant, agree only owners to go anywhere near,I know we all want to rush there!I drove past this house a couple of days ago and glanced at it then, thinking it could be just the place to see him.....come on Jake.

Oh I do hope you can catch him soon, I have been following his story from the start (too far away to help). Come on Jake your mum and dad need you home. Will say a little prayer for him xxxx
wrighty
i agree with Meryl ,if everyone goes to the house,it may scare him off . we will just drive around that area hoping for a sighting.
Kendie
Just been looking at an aerial view of the house on google earth (type in ST5 5BG). It would definitely be worth exploring around the back. I really don't think he could have got through the gates (I had a look at the house on Google Street view). Rosemary Hill Wood surrounds the house and then you are onto the new phase three. It quite difficult to stop at the house on the way down the hill. A bit easier on the way up as you can pull into the gated area.
Kendie
Just had a good nosey as I was driving home around the house. I hope he hasn't literally come through the gates as the railings are very narrow. There is a path to the left of the house as you go down hill. He possibily come from there as that is all woodland and he was just walking past the pull in to the gates? The house has been empty for a number of years. You used to see people coming and going. You don't anymore. It looks well secured and I'm not even sure if there is access to the rear. I would think if you walked directly from the gates on the new site and carried on you'd get to the back of the house. I've left some food tonight by the old entrance. I didn't go down this morning - I'm kicking myself now! If I'd have known he'd been seen early this morning I could have got a few of us having a quick look before work. Fingers crossed he's still around the same area in the morning. Will definitely pop down and look if the food has gone. Last edited: 2012-03-12 18:35:01 by Kendie
Meryl
This is great news, I was starting to get worried about him!! Are the owners able to go there? - I just wonder if too many people go to the house he may get scared and run off.
Gaynor
Yippee, a sighting, that's brilliant! I'm assuming they mean the large house behind the locked gates? If that's empty then perhaps he's holed himself safely up in the garden there, which I think backs onto a wooded area which probably in turn leads to where you've been leaving the food Kendie. If the house is empty and the gates are locked then it could be a problem tracking him but if he is there then that is really really good news. Will be up there tomorrow having a scout round. Is the house for sale? I haven't noticed when driving past, but if so and it's felt he might be in the garden then perhaps a nice dog-loving estate agent would help out!Last edited: 2012-03-12 17:28:54 by Gaynor

brilliant ! just let me know if you need extra bodies for the search cos ill be there.

Fantastic news. I was starting to wonder whether or not to leave any more food out before I read this ... but definitely leaving food tonight. My colleague lives just a bit higher up Keele bank opposite Keele so she is constantly on the lookout. I'm off down to have a look.

thats great news, we will go and drive round that area tomorrow, if you need us to search anywhere let us know .
JAKES MOM & DAD
Had a call from security at Keele University saying that someone had phoned them to say they saw Jake this morning at 0700 coming out of the empty house on the right as you go down Keele bank, the large one with triple garage prior to the roundabout with Gallowstree Lane, we will look at this time tommorow as apparantly its early in the morning you are more likley to see a dog on the loose. So great news after 3 weeks would appear hes still with us in the same area :)

JAKES MOM & DAD
No Mark said he sounded genuine & had lost his dog & would want to know himself as he passed it went down the sluce gate said def a dog but couldnt say what type. Jake's last sighting was Bunny Hill Wye Road area, but theres no where to hide there really so can't see him being there. We have had a good look round there, also it's right next to the motorway which is very noisy Kathryn
Kendie
Where was the last sighting three weeks ago? Keele or Westlands. I've been worrying about this since I read it last night. Maybe it was "a hoax" caller who had seen the poster and rang up saying he'd seen bodies in the canal - hoping to get a reward. There are some horrible people about. Fingers crossed Jake will be seen soon. I still keep putting food out in the little wooded area by the old entrance at Keele.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Mark spent all morning looking on the canal and couldn't see the dog or the fox, he said there appeared to be a stong current. He had a word with a few boaters & severn trent staff, but no news re the bodies. He has put up more posters in that area. So we are still none the wiser at present. It will be 3 weeks on Sunday since Jakes last sighting :( Going to do another Sentinel ad in hope of some news. Kathryn

I have also spoke to John at the taxi company in Ashton-In-Makerfield on 01942722722, he has described the dog as looking like a sheep ( which sounds like a Bedlington) although said it looked a cream colour although very matted and covered in barbs. He said that the dog is normally around at 0600 hours every morning when his boss leaves food out. He said that none of them own dogs & don't really know the breed. Hi All, The dog was near the "3 sisters" industrial estate this morning (Thu) spent 4 hours trying to catch it. Very scruffy but looks healthy, It has a collar and a large silver ID tag but couldn't get close enough to see it. Obviously someone's is missing it. Will have another go tomorrow. Local farmer says its been around over 6 weeks and survived the roughest weather. Looks like a few people are leaving food out so it won't starve for sure. Tried Dog Warden no reply. Regards Paul.

Thanks mumstaxi. It so upsets me to think of all these poor lost dogs. Mark and Kathryn, do you think it's worth another Sentinel ad now to see if anyone has seen Jake more recently perhaps in an unpostered area locally? If we could just get another sighting then I know that all us local helpers would be out there like a flash to help again.

Has anyone reported any recent sightings of Jake ?? If not the dog found in Nottingham might be worth a look as you never know, nothing to lose and you can then rule him out.
We hope Jake is home soon !!

People have contacted the dog warden who had ignored previous requests regarding this dog. Someone has a crate and can go and try to trap the dog this weekend if the dw does nothing. If he/she is microchipped them easy to reunite.

mumstaxi, is it possible to contact Marion Brinksman whose posting you've shown below to ask her to look at Lost Dog 20932 Bedlington Terrier Belle, who as coralvb below says, went missing in Macclesfield two years ago only 30 miles from this sighting in Ashton in Makerfield - would think it more likely than this being Jake (who as his owner says, has been seen here locally just two weeks ago). Feel really sorry for this poor dog in Ashton, sounds as though it's in a dreadful state.

Im convinced two weeks ago I saw a Bedlington in Northwich Cheshire with a chap.I was by Kingsmead and even commented to my hubby.its been ages since I saw a bedlington.the last time being 20yrs ago when one was wandering down the road .and I stopped and got it in the car .their not a breed you come across every day .thats why I thought it so unusual.I will print off this poster and put it in the Vets at kingsmead.XX

My bedlingtons are light silver coloured(blue) but if they happen to get bruising or light injuries in play etc the skin and fur turns black in those particular areas for some time after.
Good luck and wishing Jake a safe return to you Last edited: 2012-03-07 21:08:07 by doggie-spot

Is it feasible that Jake used the canal towpaths (or the River Trent) to get to Nottingham? If he's been to Festival Park he's been down towards the canal. I've been trying to look at a map to see if they link up. Using towpaths he'd go relatively un-noticed and avoid roads. Also the Nottingham post refers to travellers. It could be that he travelled with some of the travellers from the bottom of Keele Bank. Nottingham seems a long way for a dog to walk but I suppose not impossible. Would agree with Feab if the dog at Nottingham is castrated it might be worth going over to look. Last edited: 2012-03-07 16:38:34 by Kendie

I saw a dog last week on the way home, it looked in a state. I turned round and went back but couldn't find it. It's near to a Social Club, Taxi office and Residential Home that is surrounded by fields for miles. I dropped my BIL off at the home today and it was there again. I asked in the taxi place and they said it had been hanging round the area for over a month. It looks badly matted and similar to a Bedlington Terrier or poodle cross. It is very nervous and taxi people have been putting food out for it but cannot get anywhere near it. Dog warden been told but done nothing. Wish I'd of had my camera, I've left them a slip lead just in case of a miracle but does anyone know anyone with a trap or something that we could use please. The poor thing is terrified.

If the Notts dog is castrated (I've asked on his page) then definitely go have a look. The shape and set of his ears is very like Jake's. Bedlington's coats discolour very easily, and grow out darker in the cold too.
jayne30
Agree with Angelmort. I have been following the loss of Jale ever since it was in the Shropshire Star. Pictures may not represent the true colours of the dog bad lighting etc, from your photo of Jake his head looks a lighter shade that his body just like the photo of the found Bedlington. As he has been sleeping rough I imagine his coat will be all shades of colour by now. As it is not too far away it will be easy to rule out it is not Jake but you can only do that I feel by seeing this dog physically and not just by a photo. I know when my cat went missing for a week once when she found her way home her coat was all colours.
Angel
Hi MPoultney. I really feel you need to go and view the Bedlington found in Rylands, Notts. It's only about 1 1/2 hrs drive from you and Jake could easily have covered that distance (especially if he had some help). As Feab says, with a Bedlington if their hair gets damaged it growns back dark and then lightens again after a few months. Microchips move, stop working and depending on the compatability, sometimes will work on one type of scanner and not on another. The DW said on his comment that there had been a poster in his area about a missing Bedlington which had blown away but he and the other organisations hadn't been contacted by anyone reporting a missing dog. Could that be because they 'found' the dog and decided to keep it, as seems to happen a lot and now if they contact the DW etc they may get found out? In either event, i really feel you should go and see this dog before someone else does or his 7 days are up. What have you got to loose? Only time, and what if it is Jake. Good luck. x
Feab
If a bedlington is injured the fur grows back puppy colour (black for a blue bedlington), then changes back to adult coat color by six months or so later. Bedlingtons change shade throughout the year too for all sorts of reasons. If Jake had been injured it would show as black fur.
Watch for found poodles too - a lot of people think our bedlingtons are poodles.Last edited: 2012-03-06 19:12:58 by Feab
Meryl
Hi - just been back on finderbase.com and it now states that the owner has claimed the dog! Back to the drawing board - where is he???
Meryl
Hi Kathryn, it didn't say it was a Bedlington, just a dog was found at Savoy Road, Crewe. There's no telephone number and I did ask the question as to what breed but no-one replied. I've not seen this website before so don't know how it works. This is the link http://www.finderbase.com/en/
A couple of other people have also asked if it is Jake but again no reply. Savoy Road is close to Stuart Graham's Honda garage I think so I'll give them a ring tomorrow just in case they know anything. Have you seen the found dog in Nottingham?
JAKES MOM & DAD
Looked at Bedlington found in Notts not Jake he does not have any dark bits of fur on him at all he is all pale silver/grey colour, hope owner gets in touch but sadly not Jake, the one from Crewe sounds promising but can't get onto that website :(
JAKES MOM & DAD
Meryl, the Bedlington found on finderbase.com in Savoy Rd Crewe on 26th Feb, have yiou managed to get on the site as I can't get on to it ?? Many thanks if there is a phone number ?? Regards kathryn
Kendie
So wishes the Beddlington that has been found is Jake ... but in Nottingham. That's a long way for him to travel.
carol
Everything crossed!!!!! Good luck!
Alfies mum
i agree the found dog looks as if hes been out sometime. Good luck xx

Praying this one is him, looking at the found bedlington's photo it looks like he could have been out for a while xx

Please check out 37689 in found dogs. It's a male grey Bedlington found in NG9. It does say this dog isn't micro-chipped but of course chips can move and not be detected. Good luck! xx

Was so hoping the Bedlington found in Betley was Jake. Hope your Jake is found soon x
Kendie
Been and checked food this morning and tonight. Just a bit had gone and I think it's being eaten by something small. Can't see any pawprints but most of the flour has gone with the rain this last couple of days. I was also wondering about the dog found at Crewe. How strange another Beddlington being found in Betley though. You must have been so disappointed when it wasn't Jake.
Meryl
Any news?? Looking at the distance from Keele to Crewe, would it be worth putting some posters up around the Crewe area? He might try a different way home!
Meryl
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. According to the posting the dog was found 26 Feb 2012 at Savoy Road, Crewe and I've just done a route planner and it's only 10 miles from Keele so could be a possibility!!!
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks Meryl will have a look, also thanks to everyone else for your continued support. We had a call today re a Bedlington found in Betley went out but it was a liver one was filthy so looked like been out a while finder contacting dog warden they keeping him tonight. :(
Meryl
Does anyone know how the website www.finderbase.com works. I've been on there and it appears there is a dog found near Crewe but I've not heard of this website before - hope it's not a scam!!Last edited: 2012-03-04 18:44:02 by Meryl

Been round putting up posters, been to festival park, put up a few posters in trentham golf course, drove through Clayton looking and putting up posters, and through to Keele to check food. Food was all gone by 4 o'clock, so opened up a new one. Carried on to Madeley Heath, already a few posters there, put up a couple of fresh ones anyway. Saw three bedlingtons, sadly none were Jake!
Kendie
I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to Keele today. If anyone is around - check for any activity by the food in the little wooden area by the old entrance.

Don't really know where to suggest putting posters but poss on the routes from car parks and by the bus station so you might pick up folks walking. Also around the supermarkets.
wrighty
going out to hanley today, so we will print more posters off , and put them up a bit further afield . anyone any ideas where to put them?
Katie
i checked round Bunny Hill and the surrounding area yesterday afternoon . Where is the little monkey ? :-(
Kendie
Just a quick update: My colleague has popped down to the little wooded area this morning. Food still there, just a little bit had gone. So that's two nights now that only a bit of food has gone. No pawprints in the flour but with the rain the flour has gone very damp.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Kendie, yes i,ve been today and couldn't see any paw prints. Wonder where he is now ? Really missing him & want him home :(
Kendie
Been and checked the food in the little wooded area this morning and it's just been nibbled at. No paw prints can be seen in the flour and guessing by the way it's been nibbled they've approached it from the back where there is no flour! There are also little bits of dropped food between the foil and the broken sink. I think it's safe to say Jake didn't come along last night to eat the food. What's interesting that's the first time since I've been leaving food that there has been a substantial amount left in the morning. I've not left anymore this morning. I left it as it was.
Gaynor
I'm really beginning to think that Jake has moved on somewhere else, perhaps where there aren't any posters and people don't know he's missing? Am thinking that if he was still around the campus then by now he would have shown himself again. Is it worth another Sentinel ad perhaps, to see if it brings in any sightings from elsewhere?
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks Kendie as don't think will be able to make it tommorow, although Mark can go that way back off nights tonight, hopefully the flour will show us what prints are going for the food. Bedlingtons feet are small and the claws will show at the front.
Kendie
Just been and checked the wooded area. Mark the food you put down this morning is still all there. Still in the little foil tray. The flour is still all there and no footprints. Noticed you put some more posters up. I've done a few laminated ones and will pop them up when I'm out and about. Had a thought about putting one in my car window as well so when it's parked or around campus folk will see it. Will check again in the morning on my way to work.
Kendie
Today I've put some dry food down (no rain forecast) to see if that went. Thought Jake if he was hungry would eat it but other animals might leave it. There is still the foil of dog food behind the white sink. Flour is a good idea but you might want to put some wet food down as well which would smell. Food has always gone over night but not so much during the day. Hope there is a sighting very soon.Last edited: 2012-03-01 09:36:30 by Kendie
JAKES MOM & DAD
We will go to leave more food today near the lodge am bringing some flour so we can check foot prints, although I think this is too close to the road. I have also left a lot of dog food in the hide to the right of Keele Hall in the woods & cat lady has left some bonios, although there were a lot of magpies here that could be taking the food. Not sure about the camera will look into it but would have thought will need manning for insurance purposes. Thanks everyone for your support & help it's greatly appreciated. No we will not give up up Jake, he will for sure need agood hair cut for his welcome home party which you will all be invited to :)Last edited: 2012-03-01 09:27:35 by JAKES MOM & DAD
Kendie
I'm still nipping in the little wooded area by the Lodge and leaving food. I check morning and night. Food is always gone by morning, so something is coming along and eating. We walk at lunchtimes around the campus/woods and I noticed there are still quite a few posters up. I'll try and put some more up over the next couple of days.
Gaynor
Am still doing my daily circuit of Westlands/Clayton on foot, looking high and low, no sign. We could really do with another sighting now to get the momentum going again!
BBKM
When your sightings stop it may mean he has ventured to another area to try and get home, or a place where there are no posters. He should return to a area he knows so you will probably get a sighting again very soon if this is the case. Also it may be possible that someone else has found him and have kept him. Do hope you get a sighting very soon. Good luck x
rosie
I agree Carol, having read about the Bedlington character/background and seen the number of birds, rabbits, and squirrels about the campus...particularly in the Observatory area, whenever I am checking,he will survive.
wrighty
we wont give up on jake either,we are ready for next sighting ,come on jake we cant wait to meet you.
carol
Don't give up on him, Bedlingtons are tough little chaps, and I am sure that he will be found. He will probably need a good haircut!!! They are so much stronger than they look. Fingers and toes crossed that he will found soon!
Meryl
Just a thought, Jake is micro-chipped but are the details correct? - i've just read that many people forget to update contact details and addresses if they move
Kendie
Rosie - I was thinking about camera/webcam but wasn't sure how you could do it. I know they have they those night vision cameras for watching stuff in your garden but I would imagine they need to plugged into a computer/laptop somewhere. Agree it is very close to the road especially now they have strimmed back the under growth but he could move from the sports fields up to Science buildings/new site without coming anywhere near the campus ring road and it's a much more direct line for an animal. I would love to know what's come along and eating the food. I've thought of putting sand down to look at footprints or flour and following them, but it would need to be a dry night otherwise the flour would turn into a goey mess.
Katie
we will never give up on him no matter how long it takes
rosie
Mark, would you be able to set up a surveillance camera(discretely)near the "sink area" to check what is taking the food?It is very near the road so would that deter Jake?
Kendie
I've popped down to the little wooded area by the Lodge. The little part of the sink had been moved, the plastic box was a few feet away and the foil of dog food had been moved further away. Not sure what had gone on there. The plastic food box was empty of food so I filled it. Not sure when anyone would disturb it like that. I've put it all back and left some more food (the foil of dog food is still there to use at some point). If you do use the trap at Keele let us know the location and I can nip up morning, lunch and night. Others I work with will as well and I'm sure Jayne and others from security will as well. Now the weather is warmer and there is food around and he stays safe he should be ok but I wish he'd just show himself.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks Katie & Kendie, I think it's got to the point now where he will have to go to someone, can't believe he won't. When he was seen in Westlands couple of weeks ago we were there within 10 mins and he had just vanished. The people with dog trap say if we can narrow area down & he's sighted a couple of times in same location then ideal to use that. We will never give up on him coming home, but I agree Katie it's so frustrating & heartbreaking. It will be 7 weeks now on Thursday he is obviously a tougher cookie than I thought he was & if he's survived this long we have got to get him back.
I'm going again this morning to have a look & put up more posters.
COME ON JAKE LETS HAVE YOU BACK.
Katie
ive driven all round keele , wetslands , sea bridge and clayton twice today with no luck :-( i cried when i got in cos its getting really frustrating and i feel sick to my stomach thinking of his frightened little face :-( we have got to catch him soon x
Kendie
I've been and walked around today as well. We did the new phase 3, all through the woods down to Lymes Road and then back up Clockhouse Drive and round the lakes. I called down to put some cat food in the wood area near the Lodge entrance and there were two foils of dog food. I emptied one in the box at about 11.30 this morning. Will check again in the morning. We talked to a man out walking with his beagle and he was on the look for Jake. Hoping for some good news soon.
JAKES MOM & DAD
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TURNED UP FOR THE SEARCH ON FRIDAY. MARK & JAYNE FROM SECURITY WENT ROOUND WITH SOME LIVER THAT JAYNE KINDLY BROUGHT BUT STILL NO LUCK, BEEN AGAIN TODAY AND THE FOOD I PUT IN THE HIDE IN THE WOODED AREA TO THE RIGHT OF KEELE HALL WHERE CAT LADY LEAVES THE FOOD, DOG FOOD ALL GONE. YES KATIE I NOTICED THAT SOMEONE HAS TAKEN THE POSTERS DOWN ESPECIALLY IN THE BUS STOPS NOT SURE IF THIS WOULD BE PMT. WILL GO BACK AND REPLACE & PUT MORE UP. MANY THANKS MARK & KATHRYN. BEEN ANOTHER WEK SINCE LAST SIGHTING NOW :(
Meryl
Really sorry to hear there was no news from last night. Out of interest was where you camped out last night in view of the security cameras of the university? if so it may be worth asking them to keep a look out for him. I have emailed a couple of the local rescue centres over there to ask them to keep a look out for him, but had no reply as yet.
Gaynor
So sorry that it appears last night's efforts weren't fruitful .... any sign of him at all? I shall be out on foot around Westlands, Clayton, Seabridge all week (I do dog-walking for people in that area) with eyes peeled.
rosie
Hard luck Mark and Kathryn,so looking forward to good news but we will keep on with this search
Kendie
I am assuming that no news isn't particularly good news :( I'll probably go for a walk around Keele tomorrow.
Katie
ive just got in from the camp . Checked the food in the sink and its been half eaten. Walked all round but saw nothinb but rabbits :-( I think the posters need to be replaced because a lot of them have been taken down
carol
Good luck everyone, I will keep my fingers crossed, Hope the news will be good!!
Sarah
I won't be able to join you tonight I'm afraid, but will be keeping my fingers crossed that Jake comes running when he smells the barbecue! Good luck - I'm looking forward to seeing the good news!
JAKES MOM & DAD
Kendie, Many thanks I will try to find it and leave some more dog food in a bag if there's still some left. Yes security aware Jayne working tonight & will join us after her shift. See you all later.
Gaynor
Can't make tonight sadly but will have everything crossed that it's a successful venture - Jake, please, please show yourself so that you can go home at long last, safe and sound!
Kendie
I've been and checked on the food I put down this morning and most had gone. I've replaced it. If anyone out tonight wants to go and look its down by the old entrance. With your back to the lodge and looking at the little wooded area you will see a path close to the wall which goes through the wood. Take the path and then follow the wall round on your left and you will see a squashed traffic cone, a bit of broken sink and now a plastic box where we have been leaving food. Something is coming and eating it regularly. I've spoken to Jayne in security and she will pop up and see you if she can about 8.00 ish. If you want to go down on the new site they can open up the gates. I'm not sure if I'll make it tonight as I'm out but I might try to drive around the Westlands/Clayton area. I've mentioned it to friends that you are out looking so some might turn up to help. Fingers, toes and everything crossed that Jake is seen and caught. Keep us posted.Last edited: 2012-02-24 17:20:27 by Kendie

Have you any more sightings? Good luck for tonight, let's hope when it's quiet he will hear his master's voice and come running. Time to come home now Jake
Katie
fingers crossed tonights the night. All set with torches , blankets , food. Have we got the trap ready ?
Goldenfrodo
Good luck for tonight x
Come on Jake, its time to go home sweetheart xx
Kendie
I popped down to the wooden area last night. About half of the food had gone during the afternoon but there was still some fresh chicken! I left some more food. I've been and checked this morning and all the food had gone but it was Whiskas in jelly and it looks like they had eaten the meat but left the jelly. I would be surprised if Jake would have done that. I've refilled the little plastic box with some more food this morning.

Just a thought Mark are you going to mention to security that you will be around tonight. Might be an idea if there are going to people wandering round the woods with torches. They might keep an eye out on the security cameras for sightings as well.
BBKM
Hope Jake is found before tomorrow night, but if not, sending you all positive thoughts for Friday nights search and camping, and fingers crossed you bring him home. Good luck x

We've had a walk around campus - lovely day for it! No sighting. I've nipped down to the little wooded area by the lodge and the food is still there. I spoke to the people that live in the lodge and left them a poster. There were unaware of missing Jake - they know now and I've asked them to call the number if any sightings.

We've also spoken the security and left them some more posters. Hopefully there has to be a sighting soon !Last edited: 2012-02-23 14:52:52 by Kendie

Gaynor that's good to know. There hasn't been any "presents" left as I always check the area around for any signs of Jake being there. The food I'd left last night had gone this morning. I've left some more food in the plastic box and some fresh chicken that my cat turned it's nose up to this morning ! Had a wander around the little wooded area and over to the pond. Will pop back on my way home tonight. I might leave a poster for the people that live in the Lodge as well and ask them to keep a look out. Will try and pop in and see security and take them a few more posters. I'm out walking at lunchtime so will also be on the look out. Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2012-02-23 09:08:01 by Kendie

Kendie, just a thought. I have foxes coming into my garden and sometimes put out food for them. When they take it they (very oddly!) always leave me a present in return, usually on the plate!! Seriously. When I mentioned this once to someone they said it's something that foxes often do. So can you look out for fox faeces in the area where you leave the food and perhaps if there aren't any then it may be even more likely that it's a dog that's taking it. I rarely see foxes in the daytime at all, but perhaps as it's a secluded area they would be bolder. I too am walking and driving around with my 'Jake kit' of food, treats, and a spare lead!
carol
Fingers crossed that there will be a good outcome, everyone is trying so hard,Good luck!!!!!!!
rosie
Hi Kathryn I'm not sure if I can come so don't include me in the food and if I do come along I can manage.I would only last a few hours...don't think I could sit up all night!I'll keep a check on your arrangements.
Meryl
Good luck everyone - lets hope he can hang on and be in the right place at the right time!!
wrighty
There is a security gaurd called Jayne that, was helping out and looking on camera's and on sight,it might be worth speaking to them to concentrate on that area, I should of thought that they have night vision on there camera's so they could even watch at night.
Kendie
Just been to the little wooden area opposite the Lodge by the old entrance. The food I put down this morning has gone. Pretty sure we can rule out badgers in the day. It could be foxes. Bit of the beaten track for other dogs. Hoping it was Jake that had come back. I've left some more food and will call again in the morning. Also noticed there are security cameras that cover the new phase three, hub, medical school. Has anyone talked to security about possible sighting of Jake on the cameras? I know some people who work there if you want me to have a word. Last edited: 2012-02-22 17:44:26 by Kendie
Kendie
Gaynor that's what I was thinking. Not sure if there are any security cameras that cover that part of campus. I really have a feeling that he isn't far away and that its only a matter of time before he's reunited with his family. I walk around with food and dog lead with me just in case.
Gaynor
I wonder if he's moving back and forth between the two areas? In which case he is probably going down behind the Science Park and through the woods down to Paris Avenue, and then cutting across Newcastle Golf Course before crossing Whitmore Road to get to Bunny Hill. This would be a really easy route for a dog, the only dangerous bit crossing Whitmore Road. He possibly took this route too to get to where he was sighted on the Westlands recently. Loads of dog walkers from Westlands, Clayton, Seabridge and Westbury Park all use Bunny Hill and surrounds so it would be well worth postering all these areas especially Westbury Park if not already done. I have been out on foot in Clayton/Westlands every day for the last week but will now extend the area a bit to cover Seabridge end.
Kendie
So pleased there has been another sighting since the Sports Field last Thursday. Unfortunately I won't be able to help the stake out but will keep my eyes peeled around Keele and I'll continue to monitor/leave food in the little wooded area. Hope he is captured real soon.
wrighty
we will be there to , i finish work at 8, so we can join you from 9 , thurs or fri .

Hi,
Id be happy to join the camp out on Bunny Hill . Friday night would be better for me. We'll catch the evasive little monkey sooner or later :-)

Been down to the little wooded area and checked on the food this morning. All the food I'd put down yesterday had gone (it was still there when Rosie went). There was also a plastic take-away box just in front of the sink that someone has put down which looks like it had some food in. That had all gone as well ! So overnight the food I left and the food someone else left has gone. Fingers and everything crossed that it is Jake coming along and eating it. I've put some more Whiskas down in the plastic take-away box and will try and get check it before I finish at 5.00 today.

Kendie, walked over to the Lodge and there is still some food in the sink?
Ovelica
Hello, I don't know if this will help you with paw prints but when we were looking for our lost dog last year we put corn flour around the outside of the trap we had set up to check if it was her and not a cat or fox approaching the trap. Good luck I have fingers and toes crossed for you x x
rosie
Owner is back and am sure he will be liaising soon.Great that so many of us are involved.Kendie I will go on campus late afternoon so will check.
Kendie
I have popped down to the little wooded area this morning and all the food I put down yesterday has gone. I've left some more food this morning and tried to flatten the soil around the area to so we can try and see paw prints. Any animal could have been and eaten it - foxes, badgers but I'm clinging to the hope it was Jake. Not sure if I'll be able to pop down again today but will call again in the morning. If anyone is up at Keele the wooded area I'm talking about is next to the old entrance. There is a lodge and with your back to the lodge you will see a footpath into the wood. To the left is a wall and if you follow that wall around you will see a squahsed traffic cone. Just to the side of that right in the corner is part of an old sink. I've been leaving the food in that sink.

Anyone know when the owners are back? They could do with leaving some scent around.Last edited: 2012-02-21 09:25:33 by Kendie

There are still a few posters up around the Westlands. Reading all the different stories on DogLost it appears to be a common thing that they get pulled down, which is dreadful. I've been round on foot today through the Westlands areas which may be tempting for a dog to hide in - the Three Parks etc - in case he's wandering again, but no sign. Without any more sightings we're starting to flounder a bit in where to focus the search. Meryl, thanks for your interest - the owner is away and so not sure about answers to your questions, but he was exceptionally proactive so am sure he covered all possibilities. We're all just trying to help in our own individual ways. I'm going to walk the Lyme Valley tomorrow and see if any sign there.
Meryl
Just been reading the Stoke dog warden site and wondered if anyone has tried contacting local boarding kennels or re-homing centres? I wish I lived closer so I could help search for him.Last edited: 2012-02-20 20:13:26 by Meryl

Why would someone do that. I had noticed the one by the entrance opposite the Sneyd Arms had been ripped in half and then ripped off completely. That had happened earlier in the week. However there were still some others around. Last edited: 2012-02-20 18:08:54 by Kendie
Katie
ive just drove round keele and the posters have been taken down !!!!
Meryl
If the owner is away is there anyone at the owners house in the event he does make it back?
Kendie
Just been back for a walk around the wooden area. Food is still there but there are some groundsmen working around that area. I then had a walk along the road, past the golf course and towards Keele village keeping a look out in the woods. Unfortunately I didn't see anything. Hoping for a sighting somewhere soon !Last edited: 2012-02-20 14:21:53 by Kendie

I've been down to the little wooded area this morning. Majority of food had gone and there was some digging around where the food was. It could be any animal that has been and I did think if it was Jake he probably would have eaten it all unless he was disturbed. I've put some more food down and will nip down at lunchtime and have a look. Last edited: 2012-02-20 09:22:04 by Kendie

just got back , checked food kendie left ,still there at 5:30 . we walked all around campus for couple of hours no luck . waiting for next sighting , hope it will be soon!

That's a really thorough look around Kendie, isn't it frustrating that we're none of us seeing him. I too am travelling around with cat food in my pocket, little trays of smelly Sheba to whip out if I spot him! I haven't been to Keele this weekend, but in case he has gone walkabout again have focused on Westlands and Clayton area where I've done two hours this afternoon. I'm assuming there have been no more sightings - last week when I spoke twice to owner's Mum I gave her my phone number and encouraged her to ring me the second there was a sighting so that I could mmediately get it on here, and also drop everything to dash off there myself, but I haven't heard from her so am assuming there have been no more sightings. So ... where is he now and where has he been since the last sighting on the football pitch last Thursday morning?Last edited: 2012-02-19 17:32:49 by Gaynor

I've had a wander around for a couple of hours. Campus was quite busy and the sports field had a few games of football so it was probably to noisy for Jake to come out.

I've been and wandered through the little wooded area that Katie talked about. Right opposite the lodge there is a footpath through the wooded area that leads to the pond and then onto the medical school. At the start of that footpath with the Lodge behind you and the wall to your left if you follow the wall around you will see a sqashed traffic cone. To the side of that is a broken bit of white sink. I have left some food there (cat food it was all I had but it's Whiskas and it stinks!!). I left it when I first set out and came back just before 2.00 and it was still there. If anyone is out and about check it's still there. I will check again in the morning when I go to work. I walked around all that area, the new phase 3, and around the lake, down Clockhouse Drive and back along through the houses at Church Plantation (looking in everyones garden) and then the sports field.

Something else I noticed to the side of car park F is a path that leads up to the Observatory. As you walk up on the right hand side just after the last footpath to students accommodation is a wooded area. Continue along to the end of a metal fence and there is a lot of under growth but I noticed a lot of rubbish. Empty crisp packets, bread bags, shopping bags. There is also area that have recently been dug by some animal. It could be nothing but it is close to the areas that Jake has been sighted (Science Park 3).

When I walking around I also kept looking around the rubbish areas to see if I could see anywhere that had been disturbed. I didn't notice anything

Spoke to quite a few people who keeping an eye out for Jake. I was the one with a bright pink coat and camera!

Hopefully a sighting soon.Last edited: 2012-02-19 15:27:46 by Kendie

We are going to have another look around Keele and surrounding areas about 4pm for a couple of hours.

I'm off to have a wander around Keele for a couple hours shortly.

Sorry to read no sightings today ... but reading back Sunday have been good for sightings so hopefully better news tomorrow.

So dispiriting for you Katie. I thought about you earlier and wondered if anything had come of last night's stake-out. I haven't managed to get out today as planned but will go off searching again asap. I am becoming more and more certain that the only way to get him will be with an all-night vigil by his owner with food etc. Thanks for your encouraging words bazil (and carol/others).. I have just read Tia's story and it's heartwarming and encouraging to everyone determined to help reunite the elusive Jake!

searched high and low again today , no luck :-(

Come on Jake, time to get home and be with the people who love you!!!

Keep going everyone, you are all doing brilliant. Consentrate on Jake's sighting times and dusk and dawn as this is usually when a lost dog comes out from his hiding place. Jake is a born survivor, he will be getting his food from somewhere, and don't be suprised at how far a lost dog can travel in a day. I chased Tia, a tiny Miniature Pinscher, dog number 29792 for about 16 days, her triangle covered more than 8 miles per day. Good luck everyone, wish I lived closer to help you all x
Kendie
Of course will contact the mobile number as well. I know where you mean Katie. End of Barnes accommodation. It's pretty quiet up there now that they have closed the access up.
rosie
Kendie,If you get a sighting can you contact Marks mum on the mobile ,she could quickly get a text message to those of us who have been in contact with her,and have an old mobile!Just hope one of us can get near him and gain his trust.
Katie
At the far end of the sports field, there is a lodge at the gate on to the main road. Just opposite that lodge, is a small patch of woodland which is where we found the soil disturbed and the clump of grey fur. Theres a pond on the other side of the little wood. Im going to drive up there now , park up and lay low for a while to see if we might catch a glimpse of anything.
Kendie
If I hear off anyone about any sightings I'll post here. Just checked and I can get this page on my mobile so should be able to post while I'm out and about. So hope we are getting close to getting Jake back home safely.
Gaynor
Katie, you must be dispirited after doing all that with no success, likewise Wrighty & Co. Does anyone know when Mark the owner is due back? Now that we're firmily of the view that Jake is actually back at Keele, perhaps he can do a lot of scenting and fooding around there and see if he can be reeled in that way? In the meantime, I think I'll do my bit again and pop up to Keele early in the morning for another look. Kendie, if there are any 'binocular sightings' will you be able to get the info posted on here asap so that anyone in a position to can dash up there?
Kendie
Katie - when you say the bottom of the sports field in a little wooded area where exactly do you mean. Are you close to the running track end of the sports field. Are there some large houses close by that look out over the sports field. Just before you get to the wooden area there is a muddy path there are a few steps down and then you are onto the road into the village? If so I know the people that live in the very end house (there is a caravan in the garden). They are the people that put food out last night and the ones that have the Bichon Frise. They are on Jake watch !

Also a colleague lives in the cottages opposite the University and they are regularly watching the sports field through binnoculars for any sightings.Last edited: 2012-02-17 18:46:09 by Kendie

It may take a couple of nights but I agree - he needs to smell his owner around there and stay put!!!!

well i drove all round the campus , keele vilage and the westlands. Then we walked the entire uni campus again after , the only thing we found was a clump of grey fluff in a little wooded area at the bottom of the sports field . There was an area about 4 ft square that had been dug by some kind of animal but it might have been sqirrels, and this is where we found the clump of fur too.

He's determined to lead us all a merry dance! I begin to think the only way is for the owner to sit on the ground in the sports field area for hours on end, preferably at dead of night, surrounded by Jake's bed and blanket and a lot of nice smelly food!
wrighty
We have been out searching but no luck, we have drove around the Westlands area early this morning, and put another poster up in Morrisons, and searched the wooded area behind Home farm, we then met up with Katie and the owners mum,we went off with the owners mum and searched all round the Uni, across the sports fields but no sighting of Jake. We hope that Katie and her party have had some luck.He has been seen yesterday on the sports field, as somebody phoned the owners mum, when we were with her to say that it was Jake as she tried to catch him but he ran off again...
Gaynor
Oh good! I'm really pleased that it wasn't the Bichon Frise that was seen. If it is Jake then please please please let him stay at Keele. I have just had to go down to Festival Park and driving back towards Basford all I could think was that if Jake really did that trek then he is one brave, plucky and lucky mutt! How he manoeuvred his way through all the traffic and across the big roundabout is amazing. He so deserves now to be found and back home safe and sound. Let's hope that this afternoon's Keele search party has fared better than the rest of us today.
Kendie
Just done a lap along the edge of the sports field, through Keele church yard and into the village and back into campus. Been looking in gardens and under bushes in case he's sleeping somewhere.Last edited: 2012-02-17 12:59:13 by Kendie

Have just been on campus from 9.45,started at the sports field.May not be able to get back for 2pm.
Sarah
It's good news that the sighting on the Sports Field does appear to have been Jake. I'm afraid I won't be able to join the group search at 2pm but will go out earlier in the afternoon to look. Fingers crossed that today is the day he is found.
Kendie
Just spoken to the owner of the Bichon Frise and his dog was not out at 10.00 am yesterday morning. His dog had been walked and was back in the house by 8.30. So the sighting on the Sports Field is looking more likely to be Jake. He also left food out last night and it was gone this morning, but it could have been foxes.
Meryl
I'm not sure of that area but is it possible for the owners to walk from their home to Keele Uni avoiding roads? If so this would be a good way for him to follow their scent.
rosie
I think I will drive through Keele and then look around the Westlands area again tomorrow mid morning
Gaynor
I can't join the big hunt tomorrow sadly as am tied up until after 3. But during the day I have to go to Etruria so will continue with the search en route, via Basford etc, given that the football pitch sighting might be a false alarm (thinking of the Bichon Frise mentioned by Kendie below) and it would be awful if we put all our efforts into Keele when he's still somewhere else. I think we can't assume anything until there really is a definite sighting by someone who really knows what they're looking for. I hope with all my heart that he is at Keele as he'll be far safer there than wandering the streets, and will have everything crossed for good news coming from your search tomorrow. Once we really know for sure if he's there then it's not out of the question for me to go to Rugeley for the trap provided it will fit in my boot (does anyone know how big this would be?) perhaps sometime next week. Thank you Owl for your comments as I know from browsing this website that you're a real expert. Do you think in a case like this it would be a feasible idea to try to get a 'sniffer dog' to help find him? I know that happens sometimes but know nothing about how this works and when it can or can't be effective?Last edited: 2012-02-16 19:32:15 by Gaynor

ive spoken to the border collie trust and they have offered to lend us a dog trap. They are in Rugeley , and someone will need to collect it from them . If anyone can do this , they can be contacted on 01889 577058

Unfortunately I'm working at 2.00 tomorrow but will have a look during my lunch. Would agree that sightings tend to me in the morning and evenings and it is staying light a little bit longer so there may be more sightings in the evening. Just for info really on Sunday Keele will be pretty busy as there is a Visit Day on between 10.00-3.00. I've also sent the poster to people I know who regularly walk their dogs around Keele and asked them to be keep an eye open. We've got a supply of the poster in the office so when people come in we give them one. Every bit helps.
DogLostOwl
Gaynor, you are quite right as many dogs on the run, especially the more timid ones, do tend to come out in the morning, lie low in the afternoon and come out again much later when it's quiet.
Katie
sounds like a plan. Ive just called his parents, and they are going to hopefully come as well . The more people we can recruit the better

Will try to answer everyone's queries and comments here. This morning I cruised Basford, Hartshill, May Bank - no sightings. Came back and decided to phone owner's Mum again to ask if there had been any more sightings reported to them. That's when she told me about the one at 10 this morning on the football pitch. I asked her if it was a 'definite' sighting and she said that the caller had told her it was definitely the dog on the poster. But I suppose as with all 'sightings' there's always a chance it isn't the dog concerned. They went to Keele as soon as they had the call and spent two hours in the woods, but no sightings, and they couldn't search any longer today. I went up there at about 3 and have cruised and walked all over the campus, and also drove through the village and down Three Mile Lane, then down to Paris Avenue and walked up through the woods on that side (the ones which sort of back onto the Science Park). Again no sightings. I agree that if he is up there it will be regular smelly food that draws him out. I am wondering if he lies low for most of the day, as checking back most of the sightings have been earlyish in the morning. Perhaps he hides and then comes out really late at night when it's quiet. I'm no expert at all, but my thought would be that after one more 'definite' viewing at Keele (to ensure he really is up there)somehow we set up a late-night smelly food stall on a regular basis to lure him in! Can't really see any other way of getting him. So the comments below re food and barbecues etc are the right way to go I would think, but owner would need to coordinate. I would be happy to help with that in whatever way possible even if it means staying out all night. Owner currently away and I don't know when he's back, owner's Mum doesn't use the internet so that's why the sightings aren't being posted promptly. Hope this updates everyone!Last edited: 2012-02-16 17:25:31 by Gaynor

i think its pay and display on the car parks, last time we went up to search , we parked on the new area through the gates, to the left of the roundabout by the entrance. Thats where the security guards advised that we park .
wrighty
We will probably be there earlier, but we can meet you at 2pm, on car park F?
Kendie
Was it definitely Jake seen on the Sports field this morning? We are aware of a Bischon Frise that lives in the houses at Church Plantation which is close to where the sighting was this morning.
Sarah
I should be able to take a late lunch and join you at 2pm. Where is the best place to meet?
Katie
what about 2pm at Keele University site ?
Paula Marie
Wondered if it would be worth contacting the University and asking if owners are able to pitch a small tent at the bottom of football field over the weekend, scent mark the area and a nice smelling barbecue.
Gillian
Is anyone leaving any food out for him to try and get him to keep coming back to the same spot? If he was returning to the same spot regularly then perhaps you might be able to catch him in a trap. Or is he just being spotted all over the place?
wrighty
we are free tomorrow tell us when and where
Katie
ive walked round festival park this morning, and driven between festival park and basford twice . If hes back at Keele, ill drive up there again tonight. I have tomorrow free to spend a good few hours searching if anyone would like to join me
Sarah
I also walked around the woods and Keele Hall this lunchtime but didn't see any sign of Jake. Will try to have another walk around later this afternoon/this evening. Good luck for this afternoon Gaynor - I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Kendie
Have been following this thread. I work at Keele. If only we'd known at 10 this morning - we'd have been off over the sports fields looking! I have walked the woods this lunchtime and down Clockhouse Drive - no sightings. A colleague has walked to the village and no sightings. We will definitely keep looking. I have also updated our internal "announce" board with the recent sightings. I have also emailed my vets to ask them to post details and I have been twittering local places to ask them to RT to their followers so it reaches a wider audience.

Come on Jake' Time to come home :)x

***** URGENT ***** Have just spoken again to owner's Mum. It appears that Jake has made his way back to Keele as anticipated - imagine he feels safer there and knows he can get food and shelter. There was a definite sighting of him at 10 this morning on the bottom end of the University Football Pitch (the side heading towards Keele Village). Anyone looking please focus back on Keele. I am off there at about 3 this afternoon.
rosie
I will do a search this afternoon, but have no real idea about where to look now.Its needle in a haystack time.
Goldenfrodo
Bumped due to sightings.
Please stay safe Jake until you are caught.
Gaynor
I'm just back from doing more or less the same route Katie - we probably passed each other. I was working on the thought that maybe he was able to scent his way back to Keele where perhaps he feels safer as he spent so many days around there. Sarah, I think the problem is that the sightings aren't being reported until hours later, by which time he's moved on again and so it would be hard to know where to start such a search really. All us people on here are switched on dog-lovers who would act quickly when we saw something and are actively looking to help but sadly there are loads of people out there who don't. So frustrating! He's probably been seen by loads of people today and walked inches from them and they've just ignored him or said 'poor dog must be lost' and walked on by ... grr!
Sarah
It's so frustrating - if only Jake knew that the kind people who have tried to catch him just want him to be home and safe! It sounds as though he's out and about a bit more in the daytime at the moment, so surely it won't be long until someone sees him again. It's a good plan to have a mass search, and I'd really like to help.
Katie
ive just been down to Festival park , all round etruria , basford , maybank , then up through newastle and clayton to keele. Hunted high and low this evening :-( its an emergency now

Hi have the owners or owners parents informed the dog warden for stoke as im sure they would have a drive around that area given how busy the roads are there. stay safe Jake.
Gaynor
Yes, it's really urgent now as we all know how much traffic there is on that route, it's horrendous. Apparently the man who saw him at Festival Park tried his hardest to catch him but he just raced off, and at Basford he was weaving in and out of the traffic in a state of total disorientation.
Gaynor
Have just spoken to owner's parents to get the full update. Jake was definitely seen at Festival Park yesterday morning, 14 Feb. Today, Wed 15 Feb he was definitely seen at Basford Bank traffic lights looking as though he was heading back up to Newcastle. No sightings since. From here he could have gone to Newcastle, May Bank, Wolstanton, Porthill, Hartshill, Penkhull, or even back again to Festival Park.
Katie
I work on Festival Park so Im down there every day . Like you say tho , if he is round there , it seems extra urgent now that someone catches him with it being such a busy traffic area.
Gaynor
I wonder if that's a definite sighting at Toys R Us? To get there from Westlands he would have had to go through Newcastle, down Basford Bank and then actually somehow negotiate the D-Road roundabout and that huge volume of traffic along the dual carriageway to Festival Park, doesn't bear thinking about! Have been down there this afternoon, if I'd known would have had a good scout around. Will have chance to go tomorrow and Friday and will just keep looking.Last edited: 2012-02-15 19:31:30 by Gaynor

ive just driven all round westlands, thistleberry, clayton and silverdale. Maybe it might be worth calling in that Animal Search UK team now that we know for definite that hes still in the area. If hes been seen near Toys R Us, we need to be extra vigilant now as that means hes been crossing very busy roads. Maybe its time we all joined together for a mass search .

Jake was seen yesterday morning near Tors R Us in Hanley. Again nearly got caught but ran off, we are not ,local at present but the in laws have the mobile @ have been out searching with no luck. He is The Sentinel again. We have had several calls re him but no one has managed to catch him.
BBKM
Don't know if you are already doing this but if Jake seems to be staying in a certain area, have you been checking all unused buildings, barns or stables, huts etc what are within this area. He may have a cosy den somewhere quiet and that is why you are only getting occaisional sightings, maybe when he is coming out for food or trying to get home. If its a residential area you could add to the posters/flyers for residents to check there outdoor sheds, childrens playhouses etc. Good luck x
Katie
we drove all round clayton between 4 and 5 and then again between 7 and 8 . hes got to be found soon x

Just back from several hours of searching on foot and by car, the length and breadth of Westlands, Clayton and going down towards Trent Vale. Accosted numerous people, some of whom had seen posters, but no-one who had actually seen Jake. Spoke to same postman as Wrighty! as soon as I stopped the car he said 'are you looking for the dog too?' and pulled the poster out of his pocket; he's promised to keep a keen eye out. Walked all the wooded and green spaces in the area but no sign. Then retraced what was possibly Jake's route from the Science Park, down through Paris Ave/Geneva Drive/Newcastle Golf Course. I am sure that he won't have travelled far given his slow progress over the last two weeks (only a mile and a half max) but of course he could have gone in any one of four directions since yesterday afternoon. I can't believe no-one can have seen him since yesterday, it is so well-populated. If we locals can just get out there as quickly as possible as soon as there's another sighting, to hopefully keep tabs on him until owners can get here .... I can be anywhere within this area within a few minutes and happy to go out whenever needed. At least it's a bit warmer now, but I for one can't bear to think of him being so frightened out there on his own.Last edited: 2012-02-13 17:21:09 by Gaynor

Am SO pleased to hear there's been another sighting! This is only just over a mile or so from the woods behind Keele Science Park where Jake was last spotted two weeks ago, so he is obviously staying in the same area. Very well-populated residential area where he now is, so hopefully he will be spotted by a few more people. There is also Lyme Valley Park nearby where loads of people walk their dogs. I am literally just a few minutes from where he was spotted today and will go out tomorrow for a good look round.

**** FURTHER SIGHTING ***** Jake been seen today by 2 people in the Westlands area of Newcastle Staffs. He was seen at 4.30 ish Sunday 12th Febuary. A kind man who saw his poster nearly caught him, but he's frightened and ran off again inches from being caught. This was in THE PLAISAUNCE & headed off towards EDWARD AVENUE. We went straight up but could not find him, done a load more leaflets & posters in the area. It's amazing now a month since he left home. We are doing another advert in The Sentinel & asking Radio Stoke to put it out again.

JAKES MOM & DAD

JAKES MOM & DAD

Sorry not to have been of more help. Have read back through the page now and it must be just like looking for a needle in a haystack, I can only imagine your despair and worry concerning the cold weather. With 'sightings' in Nantwich, Keele, and also just three miles from home, it's virtually impossible for you to cover all possibilities. But I have been looking at this site for years now and there are many happy endings even long after the owners can possibly imagine there will be. I think the only thing you can do is to keep his profile as high as possible in all surrounding areas. It could be that he is now hiding away during the day and only coming out at dead of night, which if he's in a rural area especially, would explain why he's not been spotted. I believe the weather is going to get milder next week which might encourage him out a bit more perhaps? Please don't give up hope. There are lots of nice animal-loving people around and we are all looking out for him; it can only be a matter of time before somebody caring spots him.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks Bazil, phoned and it's a female Bedlington, she is being rehomed on Friday luckily. Thanks for looking. Regards Kathryn
JAKES MOM & DAD
Many thanks Gaynor, yes done all of those and even put leafletsthrough all houses that back onto that wooded area & the local shops, done both golf clubs & driving range. Also did the same at Milehouse area & all round there. Been 11 days since last possible sighting.I don't know what to think now, may ask Sentinel to reconfirm that Jake is still missing. The whole sitution seems crazy, surley someone must have taken him in now. Am going to put some more food and clothing down. We all miss him like crazy & when night draws in get really upset as it's so cold :(
Gaynor
Hi. Not sure if you have already done this, but have you postered etc in the Paris Avenue, Westlands area? The woods behind the Science Block lead down directly to a large grassed hilly area bordering Paris Avenue which is hugely popular with locals (sledging in snow especially) and dog walkers. Paris Avenue runs off Gallowstree Lane which is the third exit (that is, a right turn) when you approach the big roundabout coming down the hill from Keele. It's the main avenue through a large residential area, and it would be well worth doing a seach from that direction up the grassy hill back towards the woods. There is also a very well-used newsagents in the parade of shops just a few hundred yards from there which would be a good place to poster, and behind the shops is Newcastle Community High School which has a catchment from a wide area covering Keele, Silverdale, Westlands, Clayton, and round about. Perhaps they would let you put a poster up there too? It's a large school and someone may have seen or heard something. Newcastle Golf Club also not far away and that could be another good place if not postered already, golfers are out for hours in that area. I hope all this helps. Lived in this area for 25 years so know it well; please ask if confused by any of my directions! I am still looking for Jake whenever I go through the door and if there are definite sightings of him hereabouts am happy to drop everything and go in pursuit.
BBKM
There is a bedlington terrier at deerness kennels, picked up as a stray. It does look a cream colour, but that might just be the photo. I have called them but they will not tell me anything as I am not the owner. Take a look at the website or call them 0191 3780439
rosie
I'll continue to look whenever I pass Keele,I live in Madeley so will be looking there as well,I'm looking everywhere I go!Once you get that next sighting we will blitz the area. You have my number.Good luck.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks Katie will do that. Sarah it's science block as you come in from main roundabout the new science park 3rd building from roundabout on left.
Katie
http://www.nationalpetregister.org/fp/29361.htm has he been registered on the National Missing Pet register ?
Sarah
Hopefully the appeal on the radio will prompt people to come forward with information. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Perhaps it might be worth putting an article about Jake in any local newsletters/parish magazines around the Keele area? Whereabouts on campus is that science block? I'll have a look there this afternoon, just in case.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Katie, Wrighty, Phil Sarah. Thanks for the offer but I think we need another sighting I definately think someone has taken him in now. No more sightings at Keele for over a week. If we get another sighting for sure. I'm still going & checking food etc & scenting.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Just done radio Stoke again they are gong to put it out on air, with substantial reward for his safe return, so hopefully that may bring somet information, fingers crossed.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Rosie, the last sighting was the 3rd science block in the wooded area there Ive put my socks there and food has gone but looked like a badger tracks, think it's the 3rd block. There is a walk way after the path but that was not thid last Sunday the Sunday before :(
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks so much for your support everyone. I'm going to phone radio Stoke again today to reiterate that Jake is still missing & reward for any one with inf leading to his return. To be fair he probably doesn't much look like a Bedlington now & someone may have just taken a fancy to him & thought he was a stray & kept him unknowing. Worth a go. Kathryn
Sarah
It's great that Jane is being so helpful - hopefully she will spot Jake soon. I'm sure you're right that it's just a matter of time until he turns up. Somebody will know something. The main thing is to keep Jake at the forefront of people's minds with posters etc. I'm afraid I'm away on Saturday morning but will continue to look for him during the week.
wrighty
Hi Mark we are willing to come along again from Market Drayton to help search for Jake,We agree that somebody knows something about his whereabouts,he needs to be home, Car park F at 11 a.m on Saturday let us know, we need to find him
rosie
Hi,can you just remind me where the sightings have been on campus?
JAKES MOM & DAD
Yes Jane from Keele security, who also helped us with search has been looking for him all the time, panning the cameras round for him.The local police are also aware in Staffs & taxi bases. He's been reported stolen with Cheshire but as no one seen no further investigation there. Not sure what to say have been searching every day for 3 weeks now. Surely someone must have seen him / new Bedlington with someone. Been over a week now since last sighting & done loads more leafleting in Keele village & 3 mile Lane. AHHHHHH
Katie
I propose another search on Saturday. Hopefully if theres many people we can search Keele Village and surrounding area aswell as the campus. What about meeting in the same place as before at 11 a.m ?
Sarah
Aww, bless him. Ripping the back seat out of the car must have taken some effort! Have the police agreed to help at all? I was also wondering whether it might be worth asking Keele Uni security about CCTV cameras around campus?
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks folks, it's awful, he is such a lovely boy (after being a nightmare puppy) once rippng the back seat out of the car & pulling out all the beading from the windows of my Dads conservatory when left for a short while. He is now calm & loves his family & his walks. I think we need another sighting. I think hes been stolen now & it's a matter of time before he turns up. Someone must know something. Not sure where to turn now, feel worn out and desperate now.
Sarah
That's a great idea - please count me in. I searched again at lunch today and I've commented on the article about Jake on the Keele Uni forum to move it back to the top.
Katie
I say we arrange another date to search all together. We wont give up on him no matter what.
Phil
Hi, I have been following the story of Jake since seeing the article in the Shropshire Star.Too be honest it has touched me as I cant imagine what your going through, lost our dog Lily for 45 minutes and that upset me enough. Although I live just south of Shrewsbury I would be more than happy to help, if you need an extra person to help search let me know. Happy to travel up for the day.Phil
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks Rosie & Sarah, if you can keep your eyes out & let people know he's still missing that would be great.Really missing him & would be more than I could wish for to have him home & safe.
rosie
i will be searching again tomorrow afternoon
Sarah
Hi, I'll be at Keele University Monday to Thursday this week and free at lunchtimes, so please let me know if you need any help with searching for Jake. Sorry to hear that you haven't had any luck this weekend.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Hi, Thanks Millypod, had a look but not Jake. Been out today in snow few paw prints about although could be a fox or badger. Bonios still intact & no more news :( Replaced some posters that were a bit worse for wear. Hope by now someone has taken him in, the worse is the not knowing.
DogLostMillypod (Chris) - Administrative Volunteer
Hi there is a dog that looks like Jake on strayaction website http://strayaction.com/viewpage.php?page_id=27
sorry if im way off but its worth a look. Good luck
stay safe Jake until you are found.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Yes Many thanks to everyone, for keeping an eye out. Yes i've done Mainwaring arms & some parts of Hanchurch woods, not sure about 3 mile Lane. It's another week now since last sighting. Hope to goodness someone has him at their home now. Going this morning to see if any tracks in snow getting really desperate now :(
Gaynor
Hi, I just wanted to let you know too that I'm another local person keeping a constant eye out for Jake as I drive around. Have you postered the area between Keele and Whitmore, that's to say down Three Mile Lane which goes between the two and leads to the Mainwaring Arms pub on the Whitmore Road. This is a very popular pub with locals. There is so much open countryside behind Keele towards Whitmore, and if he is trying to find his way home to Audlem area he might well be travelling that route. Whitmore Road leads to Baldwins Gate/Blackbrook/Bridgemere eventually. It's just a thought that if he's now left Keele he could be headed in that direction, and if you haven't already got posters up there it might be worth doing so. I would love to log on here and see that he's been found. I live on the Newcastle side of Keele and am round and about all the time so will continue to keep my eyes peeled.
Sarah
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that my boyfriend and I work at Keele and we are looking out for Jake. We went for a walk in Keele Woods yesterday lunchtime to look for him. I am sure that he will have found somewhere to shelter and stay warm - perhaps a barn, like Katie said. Please keep us updated as I am really looking forward to hearing good news about him. Please also let me know about any organised searches in the near future as we'd love to help.
Katie
we have put up a poster on the notice board of the royal mail office so all the postmen will be able to keep an eye out on their rounds
Katie
im going back to keele this afternoon. Hes got to be somewhere
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thank you so much Katie for all you have done. it's greatly appreciated. We were thinking same, as surely we would have had another sighting by now. I have dropped leaflets in all houses that back on to Keele in the village, done the pub and put up posters. Note sure what else I can do. It's extremly upsetting the not knowing. Especially with it being so cold.By now he must be very scruffy and matted & probably doesn't much look like a Bedlington. He is on the Keele website & several staff have told us they look for him on their lunch time walk.
Katie
ive just spent two hours driving round keele uni and village. Looked in bin stores, door ways everywhere . Where is he :-( x
Katie
ive just spent two hours driving round keele uni and village. Looked in bin stores, door ways everywhere . Where is he :-( x
Katie
I dont think hes in those woods because the amount of ground we covered between us , I think we would have seen some sign of him. Or at least the bonios would have been touched. Im beginning to suspect someone might have taken him in , or hes found a warm place like a barn or something.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Thanks Katie, we have also been again today, there is a sort of hide/ shelter for cats that is to the left of keele hall at the front of woods, his food not been touched & catlady has kindly put some bonios in for him, again not touched. It's getting cold now like you say he needs to be home safe in front of the fire. come on Jake go to someone & let them help
Katie
Going to search for Jakey again on Saturday. I have prayed every day he will be found safe and well I cant bear thinking about him out there on his own. Wont stop looking till hes back safe and warm in his basket x x x
JAKES MOM & DAD
Rosie & Katie, many thanks, I am still hopeful as one lady said her lurcher was gone for 4 weeks & was having the spilt milk after the milking from a local farmer We will continue our search, one of the helpers said he was in their garden in Keele Village but that was a few weeks ago now.Could do with another sighting now.
JAKES MOM & DAD
Sue, Thanks for feature in Countryman's weekly. If there was a cost implication please let us know as we don't want you being out of pocket. Regards Kathryn
rosie
Checked out area between the Hall and Clockhouse late yesterday afternoon, did some of the walk around the lakes.Spoke to a dog walker there yesterday who will also check this spot. There are lots of bins at the back of restaurant/shops etc near the Hall, maybe those will attract Jake?
Kate, can you let me know which area you will go to so I can try to do another?
Katie
spent another 2 hours driving round Keele tonight, no luck. We saw a man walking a Bedlington near Morrisons Milehouse but he was wearing a coat and we couldnt see if he had a collar on. We wont give up until we find him. Will be out searching at the weekend again
carol
We are willing Jake to get himself home,Time he was enjoying his home comforts, wish I lived nearer to help with the search. Good luck!!!
JAKES MOM & DAD
Many Many thanks for all the people who spent their own time looking for our much loved Jakey. To kate from animal lifeline who organised the search. Other people appear to have seen Jake on site with his 2 collars on but not let us know of the sightings. We did find some dog prints to the wooded area between the church and as you go down towards Keele Hall on the right. But no joy. Also to Jane who works at Keele who has been keeping an eye out for him & joined us in our search off nights. A family of dog lovers from Market drayton & carmel, Brian & their Bedlingtons who came all the way from Shropshire. Marks parents frends & all the other helpers we didn't get to meet. Thanks again to you all for your support in our plight to get Jake back home.

Tonight, we had a great call saying Jake had been sighted in Norton in Hales. This is a village about 3 miles away from home! Seen at about 6.30pm (26/1/12) outside the Hinds Head PH. He was identified by his two collars and followed up the lane, but was scared off by an oncomming motorists headlights into a nearby side lane!
We made a search of the area, but in the dark unable to locate him. I have walked all way home from where seen last in hope of leaving a scent trail and a good friend walked the nearby canel towpath.
We are all willing Jake to make the last leg of his journey home quickly and safely!

Where he was last seen headed for a few miles until we hit the motorway. Around this area there are miles of woods I am going there again now. To be honest its a total needle in a hay stack we have left our scent in the area last seen as well as his bedding and food. Also put posters up in all surrounbing houses for miles that back onto the woods, need another sighting now as it was Friday & now Sunday. Exhausted and not slept since hes been gone. :(

Today 21st we have spend all day looking in the woods for Jake and have also put poster and done leaflet drop at Keele University and the surrounding areas of Newcastle that back onto the woods locally known as the buts in Seabridge. Also done silverdale area, but no further sightings. Confirmed from security that he was seen at the side of the old Keele Hall to the left of the path. We have left his bedding and food in the location. But he could be anywhere now he is very dirty and frightened. :( Come on Jake let someone bring you home.
Goldenfrodo
Thanks Jackalee. Just left a message asking Mark to contact me if he needs anymore help.

That is great news MPoultney. I have emailed you some scenting and plotting information that may be of use to you. Not so much the plotting as there has only been one sighting - so far. The info goes through how to try to keep him in the area, gain his confidence and how to approach him which may be useful to mention to the security staff. Get plenty of posters up in the area so people know who to contact if they see him again.
