Sadly the search located Cannons body on a sandbank in the river quite away down stream. Thank you Bazil for helping owner and at least they now have closure. Angela has requested no Rainbow bridge poems please...owner wanted to remove Cannon altogether...but its only fair the helpers should be alerted to end the search. Thanks everyone for your help.

Thanks Jill, thats great will make arrangements. Thank you for putting up the posters I saw them as I was searching today. There are lots of ideas I have got, Dave suggested the poster campaign and advertising so I havelots of posters which I am going to place through people's doors. I am also looking round the local areas/housing estates. I have spoken to the police also just so they are aware that I am looking for Cannon (just in case people are suspicious). I am writing down my plan of action for the next few days, will speak soon

Im so sorry that the outcome today was not more positive, and more to the point I could come along and lend a hand.I have asked my partner who works for skip company in the nr by industrial est (Littleburn)to put the word around there, and Im sure the guys at Deerness Kennels will let me know if they hear of anything.
I have some spare time Thur/Fri If there anything I can do? Living in the same village a both Louise and Dave Im sure they will keep me posted.

Thanks yes word is getting round, I have printed off lots of posters and so much appreciated if people can help, as it is particuarly difficult to tell people the exact location of where he went missing, even if people can only turn up for half and hour I can brief them up and they may be able to meet up late in the week.

Posters in Sunderland bridge, The Honest Lawyer agreed to display one, many around the riverside walks in that area, Jake, Tilly and me have walked for miles! Spoke to several people that knew Cannon's story so word is spreading. Posters also taken to Durham university hospital, the passport office and one of the colleges (not sure which one,my cousin goes there). Sadly no news to report but I will go back and put up some more posters soon x
Angela, sorry I won't be able to make it on Tuesday due to work, fingers crossed for some news soon, I have put my mobile number on some of the posters so there is another local contact x

Thank you everyone - People are ringing me now to help look for Cannon. Can everyone please spread the word (for some reason I cannot see the Facebook pages he is appearing on) but please promulgate everywhere possible that from Tuesday 10 Jan at 0930hrs I will be waiting at the Bridge where people park to go walking at Sunderland Bridge to start the search this is where he went missing and I will take if from there. Thank you for the 'good luck' comments. Not long been back from having a good search around the river area this morning. Scanned both sides of riverbank with binoculars for about 2 miles. Nothing. I honestly think if Cannon did not get caught/trapped in the river (Angela did not see him go under)he will have been able to get out of the river as there are many easy exit areas. I am a little concerned that the main east coast railway is very, very near. I have also driven to various railway bridges within approx 5 miles and scanned the track with the binoculars. Angela it may be worth contacting the east coast line railway authorities. Cannon could be very far away now after 11 days or he may have a cozy den somewhere. If he is out there I hope he is safe. We need to get lots more posters up, will try and get back there in a couple of days, I am about 10 miles away. Talked to a few dog walkers who are all aware he is missing. There was a shoot on today, and if Cannon is scared of the gun then I think he will move far away from this area. But then again it might make him visible. Lets pray he is out there and someone sees him soon x

Yes I could not thank the Journalist enough for putting him in, the Sunderland Echo are putting him in their paper also, and in the Durham Advertiser and Durham Times. my gut feeling is that he is out there somewhere - I just hope and pray he is not suffering.

the write up in todays paper will prove the best thing for Cannon,,people take notice of this type of thing,,I personally think he would have got out further down and could have been taken in by someone,,that river runs for miles then out to sea at Sunderland,,thats a huge area to cover,this is where the paper comes in handy,,we got lots of calls of support over Alfie even though there was no sightings of him,,for anyone searching the area,,its worth noting that the river has huge straight walled areas where Cannon could well be trapped, they are very hard to check from the riverside and believe me Cannon will not help you out by barking ;-( I hope there is some news soon as I do think he is out there somewhere!!

May I just add a comment. I have served in the British Army as a soldier for 22 years, and I have been in some pretty horrible situations, but this is by far the saddest, I feel helpless and sad that I cannot find Cannon, as everyone who loses a beloved pet must feel. Until I contacted this website I was a one man band doing everything I could myself, and I cannot thank you all enough for trying to help find him, and people like you Bazil and Jill and the rest of you guys on here make us soldiers so proud to serve our country knowing brilliant and caring people like you are around helping in situations like this. thank you so much

Tomorrow I have morning, afternoon and early evening appointments so will not be able to go and have a look for him. I will be able to go out Friday. I will go to the area as early morning as possible. A lost dog tends to move about dusk and dawn. Lets hope we get a sighting of Cannon before then. Hi Helper Bazil, I am a serving soldier based in Birmingham (but from the durham area and just came back up home to visit my family)and needed to return back to Birmingham carry out my military duties so unfortunately I am relying on people who I have spoken to and helpers like yourself to keep checking the nearby areas he was lost at. I am also in daily contact with the local kennels, local authorities and the dogs homes. so anything you can do would be much appreciated. thank you

Dont forget to contact river authorities for help. Now that the schools are back offer a reward to local schools toward funds if they will ask the children to keep a lookout. Children see and hear a lot.

Thank you for this support, I will not stop trying to find Cannon and will do whatever I can. The newspapers have rang today he will be in the Sunderland and the Northern Echo very soon, just want the publicity for him. I have offered a big reward (£3,000) and would offer more for him to get back to me safely. Some people say a bit silly offering so much as I may attract pranksters but there are a few things I know about the boy that no one else would. Please keep praying everyone.

when Cannon went missing he had gone into the River Wear but got into difficulties in the water. His owner went in the water to try to help him but he drifted away in the water which was flowing in the direction of Durham City. He was wearing a burgundy coloured dog coat and a camouflage harness. There is a LARGE cash reward for this gorgeous boy

Thank you for everyone who is helping. My other little dog Alan Shearer is missing Cannon. Cannon's last name is churchill after the great winston and his famous saying was never never never give in. Please please don't give up looking for Cannon Churchill. I am a serving soldier from the NOrth East but posted to Birmingham, and have had to come back to carry out my duties, so any help is massively appreciated.

just had a long conversation with the owner of this boy, I told her I dont think he has drown like they assumed at first, if you remember Alfie of 2009,,this is exactly the same situation, so advised her he could well be further down river but I believe he will have gotten out somewhere,,the main issue is the abscence of the chip, I will contact my old numbers tomorrow just in case he has been picked up,,hoping he is safe somewhere ;-)

Poor Cannon has not had a good start in life. Before being adopted by this owner he was found tied to a bench in Cannon park and had lots of scaring from being used as a bait dog. He has now been missing for 9 days and we really need all the help we can get to find him and get him back to his new owner. CAN SOPMEONE PLEASE PUT HIM ON FACEBOOK
