Whipmums mobile number is temporarily out of order. Do any local helpers have a landline number for whipmum? We need her to check with Wildbore vets. It would be wonderful if this is Dana but there are so many brindle whippets about in this area that I am not getting my hopes up too much. But we do need whipmum to check this.
Mollychops
I hope this is Dana . Fingers tightly crossed here
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.

dorofin
thanks gillian i have been in touch with heather and she has checked it out apparently its a lurcher, but thanks for trying.
Gillian
Just seen on Facebook that there's a whippet bitch been found in Rotherham and taken to Rotherham kennels. No other details. Probably a long shot but might be a good idea to check her out. x
dorofin
heather posters out at the showground at newark and got a response from a woman who said well if she has got a good home so what she already has got a great home and if some one wants a dog to give it a good home then there are plenty deserving cases in rescue ect ect, don't take a lost dog in and keep it cos by not reporting it to the dog warden you have stolen it .....Last edited: 2012-03-04 16:56:12 by dorofin

Hi heather hope you are well?Have you got car on road yet?.i am not showing any where this week end ,got two next week end run up to crufts so good practice ,not that she needs it ,she is a great show girl never stops.I will be over sat and sun might even stop in my camper van sat night, the more i think about it the more certain i am that it was dana in that garden [you know where] znd i will get some pics and just in case they were visiting this particular place ,i will take pics of the car also.i only wished i had not turned round at that moment cos i saw her out the corner of my eye, then by the time i turned round for a proper look they had opened door and took her in,but if whoever has dana is reading this ,we are closing in on you and you will be getting a knock on your door, by keeping her and not reporting it to the dog warden she is classed as stolen.....
dorofin

Keeping everything crossed that this is Dana. Whipmum, I think it would be good for you to update the Facebook page with the recent sightings. You might then get some offers to help with searching the local area. Do you still think Dana is sleeping in this barn? Can you leave some food?
Gillian
That's fantastic news if it really is Dana. Hope you get some more sightings and catch her soon. Good luck! x
dorofin
Met up with heather today, yet another sighting of dana in this same area ,person tried to catch her but jumped over wall or fence? and ran off towards rhodesia, put some more posters up,talked to some more people,we are wondering if dana had origionally been taken in by some one in the shire oaks area and now run off from them?hence all the sightings, ideal place for a dog to hide away from the very busy A57, plenty of water canal& streams plenty of scrub &woodland to hide in,she seems to come out at about 5.30ish evening and hangs around sainsburys and mcdonalds possibly foraging for food, looks like she has lost the triangle although she is not far from where she was attacked and where she lives. come on dana give your self up time for a big warm cuddly duvet.your mum is waiting for you.Last edited: 2012-01-19 19:34:36 by dorofin

heather rang me,said a girl rang her last night, said she spotted dana in sainsburys car park along A57 just up from the lindrick golf course. she went over but she had gone by then. At last some positive news.chin up heather, remember never say never....Last edited: 2012-01-18 14:20:46 by dorofin

spoke to heather [danas owner] today ,she has been ill,but hopefully now on the mend. managed to poster top end of shireoaks as i have been nagging her!!!!.and she has had reports of dana being seen in shireoaks last monday a lady saw her along the a57,a farmer rang her and said dana was sleeping in his barn and he tried to catch her but she ran off.another man rang her up also in shireoaks and said he had caught dana, but alas when heather got there it was a large brindle greyhound male ,which is in shireoaks with the people who found him,the dog warden has been informed and is going on monday to scan the dog for a chip.. So we are hoping that the other sightings were of dana and not this dog,as we did think she was probally in this area because it s along the a57 the route she was taking and because dana would have access to rabbits ect in the surrounding fields we think this is where she has been hiding could account for no sightings.although we have not ruled out that someone could have picked up along the a57 and now think the heat is off[WRONG] so they have started bringing her out for walks and this when she is sighted.please be assured we will never give up and we will get Dana back where she belongs with Heather. So heather chin even higher.Remember never say never....Last edited: 2012-01-14 16:49:29 by dorofin

Hi heather are you still on for sunday?did not get back till 8.30 last sun my girls dad got best veteran dog so had to wait for challange and he got best veteran in show. who thinks you should stop looking? have these people got dogs?if they have have they ever lost one,i bet they would not say that if it were their kid gone missing?i still thin shireoaks could be a good bet although i do wish i had not turned my back on that garden as i am sure i saw a dog of danas colour and size in there out the corner of my eye, i will have to go back there unknow to them, could park camper van in that lay by ?keep going chin up .does the person who has got dana know that by law they are supposed to report it to dog warden[council] i suppose technically they have found her but by keeping her ,they have stolen her.chin up remember never saynever....

Hi Whipmum. Did you read the comment from Ju X Ward on Dana's FB page:

I just found this in a search, it doesnt say what breed of dog she is, but she is NOT a Staffy. Apparently owners came forward but wouldnt/couldnt pay fee to get her back, dog found 17/8/2011 Firth Park area, taken to Spring Street Kennels, if not claimed 2 specialist breed rescues were interested in taking her!! MAYBE they were not the owners ..... hope i am not wasting your time x

Hi heather,i will be coming over searching tomoz starting in the villages i have previousl mentioned cos if she has gone that way who ever has got her could be unaware that some one is looking for her unlikely i know but not every one buys their local papers .i don't. so could be kidding their selfs that she had been left wandering with an all in one collar and lead on[as if] any way i will come across in camper van so i can do some surveilance of dog walkers and see who brings what for a walk. chin up .remember never say never....

I read from previous posts that some of you are registered on the sheffield forum. Could somebody who is already registered add Dana's Facebook page. The more people that know about Dana, the better.

Hi heather, right i have been right back to when dana was first sighted ,you said she was sighted about 2 miles further away from shell petrol station on A57 but did not say which directon?so accoring to my map she either ent towards todwick and wales which proved false or towards woodsetts shireoaks or netherthorpe or if she went overfields ,could be in north carlton, wallingwells wigthorpe or gateford. did you poster these places? Also did you go back to the land where wispa got the scent at the locked sheds, alsodid you see the dog at the back of the hospice that the the lady farmers wife? said was theirs. some one knos where this girl is,i keep thinking its a lady with silver hair for the last two days i have been thinkiking this.chin up higher .remember never say never....

Whipmum, there is a very interesting post on the facebook page:

"just seen a post on dogs trust and made me think about dana as she could be anywhere by now, heres whats been posted ( sorry if its not her but just incase i thought i should post the details .......

Sam Yeo
If anyone knows of someone who has lost a lucher/whippet type dog (may have been some weeks ago judging how the poor things been found, its very skinny and unwell) it has a brown leather collar & red lead. Get in touch if you know its owner.

Would it not be a good idea to join forces with Nudge's owner (at the whippet racing event)? Maybe you could come up with a combined leaflet with both Dana and Nudge on the same leaflet. With two people handing out leaflets you could cover more ground.Last edited: 2011-11-10 08:16:02 by Whippetlover

Heather, it really is worth popping in to the whippet racing at Highgate on Sunday. I was there last year and there are loads of whippets and whippet owners about. A good place to share Dana's plight - maybe ask if you can stick up a poster in the club room while the event is on. People come from a wide area too so good coverage x

Whipmum,

This is Dana's new URL (which you can add to posters etc).

http://www.facebook.com/HelpFindDana

I have already shared the page on many whippet, greyhound, rescue sites etc. Please can you now 'Like' Dana's page and I will set you up as admin. Its important you keep the page updated with your search efforts.

When you are set up as admin, the posts that you leave on Dana's page will not be visible to friends on your personal page (unless of course they have 'liked' Dana's page).

When sharing Dana's page on other facebook pages (you need to keep this up reguarly) you can either do it as yourself or as HelpFindDana. To do it as Help Find Dana, click on the arrow at the top of the facebook page next to where it says 'Home' and select 'Use Facebook as Page'. You then click on 'Help Find Dana' and click on switch. It will make more sense when I have set you up as admin.
Whippetlover
Hi Whipmum

I have now set up a FB page for Dana. This is the link:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Help-Find-Dana/100985896684297

Once Dana has got more than 25 fans, I can apply for a more memorable URL (the old one will still work) so hold your horses before you go printing it on posters etc.

Will be in touch again soon.

In the meantime, please can everybody like & share Dana's facebook page.
Scrappy2010
Can anyone tell me the name of Dana's FB page pls. Why would anyone have a FB page with 981 friends but not mention Dana on it ??? Or am i missing something.? Maybe 90% of friends do live overseas, but that does not mean they do not have friends/contacts in the area where Dana is missing. I dont know the owner but that does not stop me adding her to FB sites for missing dogs, which I have done since her doglost poster has been made.
Gillian
Hope a Facebook page brings you some news Heather. The more people who are aware of Dana the better. I'm here just over the other side of the Pennines if you ever need some more help xxxLast edited: 2011-11-07 22:35:29 by Gillian

whippet lover....it would help me a great deal if you could help me regarding setting up a page for DANA....
whipmum
yes...I.do have a facebook page with xxx amount of friends....90 per cent of which live overseas....therefore are no help in looking for DANA...the Whippet showing family is a big one most of thepeople on my facebook pge have been notified of DANA plight by myself at the shows and posters distributed there...DANAS plight is not on my page because what is the point of stressing people when they cannot help the situation at all simply because they live to far away....many people have offered help when she is spotted again......what I am trying to say is don be quick to judg as you may not know all the details....if anyne could give me the instructions to set up a page forDANA I will do so...lastly nobody more than myself (except probably DANA) appreciate all the help given in the search for my girl...Last edited: 2011-11-07 21:26:16 by whipmum

A page could be set up for Dana, totally separate from Whipmum's private page. Nudge, the other misisng whippet from the Sheffield area has now got her own facebook page and since Friday has got over 150 fans and growing rapidly. http://www.facebook.com/HelpFindNudge

She already has a Facebook account with 981 friends but doesn't want to mention Dana on it ! ... We tried to suggest this weeks ago but it never happened. I just feel sorry for the poor animal and many people putting in all their time and effort TRYING to help ...

Whipmum, If you would like to set up a facebook page for Dana and don't know how to do this, I can do this for you. Just let me know. Once set up, I can then hand the reigns over to you (you will have to register on facebook) so that you can update the page and answer questions. Please let me know if you would like me to do this for you. I really think now is the time to reach a wider audience.
Whippetlover
Hi Whipmum, As there have been no recent sightings of Dana and the thinking now is that someone may have taken here in, would it be an idea to make reference to this under "where lost"? Also, it might be worth mentioning what the cash reward is - if she has been taken in, somebody will know something and you may be able to tempt them with a sizeable reward. If you are going to get publicity on the radio I do urge you to get a facebook page set up in advance. You can then mention the facebook page on the radio (which for many people will be easier to find than on DogsLost).Last edited: 2011-11-06 08:18:47 by Whippetlover

Whipmum, you're doing so well in all your efforts. Do you still visit rescue centres as phoning is not always ideal because one person's description can translate differently to someone else's view of a dog? In addition, you have the extremely busy environment of rescue centres, where someone answering the phone may not always know which dogs have come in while they were off duty, or even on duty, because all centres are rushed off their feet in the current economic climate, where people are handing over their animals as they say they are unable to afford keep them. It's just a thought; I visualise Dana possibly waiting in a rescue kennel while you're busy searching outside and waiting for more sightings, if you see what I mean? It would also be useful to think of rescue centres further affield than, say, your local one(s). Am constantly wishing you luck and checking on Dana's page that she'll be back with you soon....
dorofin
Hi heather, nice to hear from you been thinking the same for a while ,i think she was taken in along the a57 ,i am wondering if whoever has her walks on the land and woods next to the lindrick golf course cos thats where wispa & owl got the scent on 1st of sept,if i was not working i would take my camper van and park near there and watch who comes and goes ,they are probally coming by car as this is a very busy road, don't worry, who ever has got her knows that she is not a stray & i can not belive they have not either seen a poster or ,seen the papers, don't worry they know they are doing the wrong thing by keeping her and one day hopefully soon some one will tell you where she is. chin up really high now !!!! remember never say never.

Hi Dorothy, sorry forthe delay in reply, was feeling delated and depressed about the whole situation and realise now that feeling below the weather was not helping, so, that sorted I'm now back on track, still dont know what to do or where to look next, feel someone must have DANA, as there have been no more sightings since the last Newspaper article, the weather here is getting really cold now and what with the loud fireworks going off, just hope shes safe will continue my daily searches going over ground old and new in my search for you DANABANANA.....trying to get her on the radio but this is appearing harder than I thought, nothing came of the sightings after she was in the paper, good to see people are still looking for my girl as I am and will do forever......

Hello. Just seen this poor girl and all your efforts to find her. I can confirm that the people who live at the bungalow in the entrance to Whitwell Wood used to breed Pointers. Not sure if they are still there but if they are I feel sure that they would still have a few dogs. I remember them having quite noisy whiney dogs whenever I have been up there. Hope this helps and if you need any further help looking around the wood let us know as we are only a few minutes away. Good luck x

Hi heather sorry to be a nag but have you been to the whitwell woods yet on A619 chesterfield to worksop rd ? to check out the crying dog in the garden of the property right at the main entrance to the woods ,i think they were advertising we do plastering on a van, could not see dog but it started whining and barking when i called danas name ,it got quite upset.that chap said he saw a dog of danas descfription in these woods,so is it her, have these people took her in?chin even higher.remember never say never....
whipmum
been out searching the woods this morning at 7.00 bit dark but couldnt sleep so dogs loaded up and went, no sightings of my girl, its like looking for a needle in a haystack when you dont know which direction to go searching, will search anywhere and everywhere as this is better than doing nothing at all, I am thinking more and more that she will never be coming back, and I get so upset at myself for thinking this way, but it would be disloyal to both Barry and Dana to give up the search, so off to have a good talk with him up stairs and give myself a firm kick up the backside for thinking such thoughts, come home DANA I need you home ¬!
dorofin
jd checked 33563 other day and again now ,,its not dana sadly, she has not enough white on face and markings are not as intense, i check everything even the crosses, because people don't know there breeds[specially if they don't have a dog]
dorofin
berties family already did that one 3 days since the one for £50. its not dana as i asked them to email me a pic its a dark brindle and its ears are stuck up.thats why i never mentioned it on here, cos i knew as soon as i saw pic .the one for the 19 inch working one a newark is simaliar but it appears to have a dark face with no white.went over heather saw your new posters forgot to take phone with me ,walked round where the caller said nothing drove dinnington, anston even our old hunting ground kiveton and wales, sorry to hear he was mistaken, don't give up she is out there with some one and you will get her back ,did you read about the black lab that went missing from a relatives back yard ?.i think it was rotherham any way he went missing in aug and they got him back i think it was about 2 or 3 weeks ago now, a woman took the dog to vets for pets in doncaster and the vet thought it was a bit fishy so he scanned it and the owners name came up and theats how they got him back.It is on this site. chin up still got the paper story to come .Did you try the house at whitwell woods heather? it may be an idea to poster in there as well? if you don't want to go on your own ,i can come with you. chin up .remember never say never....Last edited: 2011-10-26 21:15:43 by dorofin

Heather dont forget we are meeting on Friday. xx and dont give up hope, looks like you have some great support - just wished I was nearer
whipmum
It may appear that the whippet seen in Laughton may not be DANA as had a call earlier from a lady who had lost her Whip in this area Nudge is Blue and White and the Whip spotted was white with grey patches, so hopes dashed once again, but will still search around that area anyway, just think that I should wake myself up to the fact that she is not going to come home ever, dont want to sound dispondant but thats how I feel today----though it would have been much harder to bear without the support of this board, thanks again to all
Pawprints Dog RescueJD
http://www.doglost.co.uk/dog_blog.php?dogId=33563 Please rule this one out and my reason for posting is that it is listed as a lurcher and wondered if sometimes it is worth checking other breeds such as lurcher/greyhound/whippets and the crosses as not all finders recognise!

Hi heather ,like i said i nearly went that way cos that was where millie was in that area and it just popped into my mind, but i was intent on doing lindrick & whitwell woods, never mind i will go across to laughton tomos she may be in throapham by now [if she is still on triangle]. i will look all round that area.chin up.Remember never say never....Last edited: 2011-10-25 22:25:17 by dorofin

Hi Dorothy, thanks for the info will follow it up tomorrow, had a call tonight saying the caller had seen Dana yesterday at Laughton which is about 1 and 1/2 miles away, he tried to catch her but the Dog ran off towards Monksbridge pub, if this is DANA she could be (hopefully) heading home as this is part of the magic triangle people talk about, went down to look for her but no sightings, Dorothy when you get a moment could you call me as appear to have lost your number from my phone !Last edited: 2011-10-25 20:27:25 by whipmum

Hi heather, got back about 5.35,looked round lindrick golf course area nothing very thick scrubland there, also in the little woods off little wood lane, nothing then i found the whitwell woods this is a big wood,i parked in the layby and went in side through the woods had a walk round calling danas name nothing, but when i walked back to the car still calling her name ,i decided to walk to the main gate and as i called her name a dog outside in the garden of the [bungalow] i think only house there any way. started barking and quite frantic whining, could it be dana? ,i did not have a poster on me or i would have knocked on the door and asked them if they had seen her as a man said a few weeks ago he was in whitwell woods when he saw a dog who he thought was dana, these woods are on the A619 chesterfield -worksop road.Last edited: 2011-10-25 18:16:09 by dorofin

Hi heather is no news good news, right when him in doors goes to the club ,i going to come over to the woods on little wood lane as when i googled the whitwell woods it came up with these woods.Do you remember talking to a woman weeks ago when you were out at kiveton looking for dana and a woman said a man friend of hers ,had said he saw a dog that fitted danas description in the whitwell woods ,well i keep thinking about this, also about the scent wispa got on the 1st of sept at lindrick golf course,so shall do the woods first, then if no joy the golf course and surrounding woodland .hope you are bearing up ok and that your mum is feeling better also.Chin up remember never say never....

CP
Reading the article in the Worksop Guardian, whipmum, I now understand the dilemma in which you were placed and the crossroad choices Dana had to escape from her ordeal. Have you postered down each of those crossroad routes? If she just kept on running down any one of them she could easily be in another post code altogether. Are you able to get addresses of, say, vets down each of those four crossroads in the next, or even next but one, areas in case Dana was injured and taken there? Someone in one of those areas may have her who is quite oblivious of your postering and taken her to a vet. Not all vets automatically scan for a chip, unfortunately. It would be very interesting to see if you could approach a wider area of vets to begin with on all four routes. Really rooting for you and praying for Dana's return. x
whipmum
Went out early morning this morning for a drive around the local area out for 2 hours until 7.00 am this morning so cold and grim, will return later and walk through the woods, its getting really cold now and feling really worried about DANA, just hope shes safe and warm
Berties Family
well sat here thinking about the whips missing and then whilst cleaning i cam across some numbers from when our boy was lost in Sheffield. have you contacted the following??? Doncaster dog warden 01302722748, radio sheffield 01142675444, hallam fm 01142091000 - there is also another lady who kept me sain - she use to work for dog lost and lives in the sheffield area, maybe one of the other organisers can pass you her number - her name is Kate and she is fantastic xx Dana is never far away from our thoughts down here x

well the story wasnt in the Rotherham Advertiser this week, no room for it, it will be in next week instead, just got back from walking in the surrounding fields for 2 hours no sightings of anything except a cat !

just arrived back home after a walk around the area postering, feeling rather down today and wonder if DANA will ever come home again, the weather is really changing and getting colder, dont know if Im even looking in the right places, just hope for DANA's safety someone has taken her in, though that does not help my piece of mind, all I need is one sighting and can go there, She is in the Rotherham Advertiser tomorrow and hope this brings a positive result !

Just re-shared on various sighthound, greyhound and whippet facebook pages. Sorry I'm not close enough to be of any real help.

Hi Whipmum. Another whippet (Tye - 33473) has recently gone missing and a facebook fan page was set up for him on Sunday. He has already got over 50 fans, who have been sharing his plight with other facebook users, rescue centres etc. Facebook is a very good way to reach a much wider audience and if you get any further newspaper coverage its a good place for people to keep updated with whats going on. I don't know if you already use facebook yourself but if you want any help setting up a fan page, I can talk you through the steps. Its important its done properly (i.e. a fan page is much better than a personal page).
whipmum
Thanks to all for your input, Its all been taken onboard, I was searching early this morning cold and frosty just hope shes safe and warm, I will continue to post everywhere, posted flyers on cars in Tescos yesterday, think I have to play a waiting game now and hope I here something, as said will continue to poster,

Hi Whipmum, have just logged onto doglost for this first time in ages and read all your postings, my heart goes out to you as I was in the same situation four years ago with my whippet lurcher, Pippin,(still on doglost)I found the support from everyone here got me through the hard times and I am still looking, but you are doing exactly the right things, can only add a few more, do try the travellers sites , I do not know your area but if its rural do poster all the farmers, they have eyes in all their fields and also local stables and livery yards and anywhere with horses as riders are also good for looking whilst out riding. I also postered car boot sales and put flyers on all cars in their car parks, as they attract people from all over. Don't give up hope, never give up hope as Im sure you wont. Come On Dana game over now time to go home to your duvet, stay safe little one til Mum finds you xx
Whippetlover
It might also be an idea to set up a facebook page for Dana. For inspiration see http://www.facebook.com/groups/helpfindpathos
Whippetlover
Hi whipmum. How about distributing some posters amongst local postal depots? Postmen must get to see alot of dogs on their rounds.
dorofin
Oh dear that is a shame it was not dana,at least it made them look bless them eh and it proves people are taking notice, keep the chin right up now and i hope while i am away she is found.I see poppy has been found, so once they are sighted it proves you can get to them .chin up and never give up shes waiting for you to find her.
zakisawhippet
Oh whipmum i am sorry. Dana is out there somewhere, maybe the cold weather will bring her out of hiding? it amazes me how well dogs can survive, living feral. They are probably having a great time! Pls keep your chin up!
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Are there any travellers around that way? If so you need to poster around the sites. You could get some crank calls, but ignore them. If the reward is wanted and they have her you should get a real call. No dog, no money okay? Secondly, PLEASE check if any railway lines around and check the councils or highways agency for roads. Ruling that out, she is still out there so keep up the posters going. You are doing well. Someone may have her. If you can think further afield too. Click on the vet sign at the right of this page and try phoning and e-mailing all the vets you can, outwards from home. Can you get Dana in Dog magazines? I'll ask for a twitter to be done. Dogs are very clever, so if she is still running wild, she will figure out what to do to keep warm. God bless. x
whipmum
Had call yesterday to say someone had found Dana after seeing the local paper, went over and it was a very thin staffy cross and red fawn, bless em, so hopes dashed again!, dont know where to do next cant do nothing, started to poster more local than before, it is so frustrating not knowing which area to concentrate on next, so if anyone has any ideas please tell me !, I need my girl back home especially as Whippets dont do cold!, hope someone can give me some hope and direction .....
dorofin
Hi heather, yes people can e a bit slow in realising they may have seen the girl and not realised ,then a week later the penny drops, fingers crossed, got my camper van today so we are set for surveilance[spying!!!!]as soon as get defo sighting we will be in situ.chin up as high as you can ,remember never say never....
whipmum
Thought might have been more response from th3e Newspaper article but none yet----early days I suppose, will keep fingers crossed
dorofin
Hi heather don,t suppose you have heard anything yet?Has the story been in your local paper yet? living over here i would not get that paper.I have just purchased a camper van ,hoping to get it frid or sat, only thing is ,i am away till 21st down at sisters and mums in essex then i have got club ch. show & one at newark on sunday,so it would be 24th before i could be of any assitance to you. When you get a defo sighting i will be acrosss in the c amper and we will do our surveilance[like ace ventura].I really hope this does the trick.Have the posters in dinnington been taken down again? if so remember what i said and we may need to hide in the van there to see who is doing it and if any one came waltsing by with dana. anyway love chin high up ,remember never say never....
whipmum
Dana plight is in the Sheffield Star tonight and the Dinnington Trader on Friday, hope this brings info,
Chris
Continue to re-post on FB; hope the added publicity brings fresh news
whipmum
perhaps this could be bumped up due to the forthcoming article, also mentioned Lost Dogs and their work
whipmum
Star came to take photo, told them the story, they said it will be in either tomorrow or Thurs at latest, told them all places where sightings reported showed them on their map, told about Dana being Barry's dog etc, hopefully this will jog someones memory, called all the dog wardens and visited sancturies in the areaa no joy...
joanne5600
The Sheffield Star newspaper have been in touch and asked if they can do a story , i passed Heather the details as shes the owner and knows more than me... hopefully it will be in in the next few days, upto you Heather to get the news coverage now and hopefully jog someones memories of the time Dana went missing, hopefully there will be some positive sightings and Dana will be returned.
dorofin
Hi heather, i have read your post three times [the one where you said dinnington posters have been taken down] .do you remember some one posted on here about a dog lost in rotherham and a woman had took it in and was removing the posters, do you think this is what happening here, is it the new posters being removed? seems strange to me if they dissapear maybe we ouught to be looking near there or dinnington. If dana has been on her triangle she could have easily[while we chasing our tails!!!!] got back to dinnington and someone has took her in, just a thought chin up that bit higher .remember never say never....Last edited: 2011-10-09 20:25:22 by dorofin

Hi Whipmum. This must be so frustrating for you, just when you thought you were getting really close. Are you sure that none of these sightings were of Dana? You said that Dana was wearing a lead when she disappeared - were there not any sightings in the early days of a dog wearing a lead? As you say, she's out there somewhere and she's going to be so happy to see you when you do eventually catch up with her - she is so worth it! Wish I could help myself, but I'm 5hrs drive away.
whipmum
We def think that we have been following sightings of another Whippet for the last 6 weeks, so we have decided to poster in differant ares (she could be anywhere), so with this in mind we are starting from the begining again but will poster near to home than was done before, so am posting within the Dinnington area again it may jog someones memory, who knows but it's hard not to feel deflated after so many (Supposedly) sightings of DANA, we will not give up, shes out there somewhere come on DANA you sod, where are you ! ?. thnks to all for your unswerving dedication in helping me get my girl safely homeLast edited: 2011-10-09 15:14:56 by whipmum

went posterinf today around the Airfield at Thorpe Salvin, couldnt get really close due to road being blocked, so walked around the Woods for a good few hours, it was really dry considering the downpour thats been happening all day, so this might be a good place for a Whip to hide in the undergrowth, didnt spot anything so will return to poster duties tomorrow, drove back through Dinnington and noticed the posters had been taken down so time to replace them me thinks !....theyare still up in Anston and Anston Stones, and the Post Office in Anston
CP
I think you're doing brilliantly, whipmum. You seem to have everything covered - the only thing I'd say is carry on doing what you're doing, that's the way to go; don't slacken, don't give up, just concentrate on keeping on going although I'm sure it's tiring and frustrating but, from following Dog Lost for a long time now, it's that focus and perseverance that pays off. I hope you're feeling better very soon. x

Heather hope you are feeling better today, sorry could not get over today ,did not finish work till 1.30 normally start at 7.30 till 10.30 had five new machines put in the canteen today so had to stay .will defoe come over tomoz and drive about ,but defoe going to look at the lindrick golf course & surrounding woodland its been nagging at my brain that wispa got danas scent at the golf course on 1st sept,i will keep you posted on any devolopments. hope your mum is feeling better also. chin up ,remember never say never and here's to carry on camping!!!!Last edited: 2011-10-07 19:34:23 by dorofin

well, still layed flat with tummy bug-----cant begin to think what it must be like for my poor Girl, getting so cold and windy now and what with fireworks going off, dont know what to do next, to think that I as her Mum gave been looking for the wrong dog does not make me feel the best, so sorry DANA but as soon as Im up and feeling better will be back on the case, sorry folks for the rant, just dont know where to go next, posters are being placed everywhere further afield than before, Checking dog wardens daily , visiting rescue kennels also, vets further afield been notified along with Dog Wardens, Newspapres been informed and advert being placed, if anybody can think of anything else to do in the search to get my girl home I would be delighted to hear your ideas, til then my Tent awaits any sighting of DANA and we will be gone in a heartbeat, thanks to all you lovely people out there, you know who you are, We (DANA and I) could not have done this without you all, on behalf of DANABANANA and I, I thank you from the bottom of my heart X X XLast edited: 2011-10-07 13:16:50 by whipmum

Hi heather, liz & new people, can you let me know if we are staking any where out, because with the false sightings it has totally thrown me out of sync,i suppose the other dog seen at the high school was not dana either, are those two owners having a competition to see who can drive us barmy first!!!!.any way any suggestions of where to look and i will come over, like i said before wispa got danas scent at the lindrick golf course but that was 1st of sept i belive. ,and the dog at the lindrick kennels was defo not dana?.It makes your bloood boil to think we have been lead right up the garden path, a sheltie friend said the same thing happened to them years ago, when they lost a sheltie, they got it back after someone spotted the ad they placed in a local paper.apparentley some one had a sheltie of same description running around in the same village.any way any ideas girls and i will come over .I am free sat, we must get lucky soon ,i think heathers had her share of bad luck, time for the good luck now.chin up remember never say never....Last edited: 2011-10-06 19:18:55 by dorofin

I will ask for Langela's contact details so I can chase this up.

just keep doing what you are doing - most people know exactly how you are feeling and I check this page at least 3 times a day just in case, keep your postering and call all vets weekly, contact the council dog wardens.. Tell everyone you know, ask the bus station if you can put posters in their busses, ask the train station if you can poster there/Trams too lol, ask at both football grounds if you can email posters for their shop area, and i will keep wishing her back x
joanne5600
Has anyone had the chance to ask Langela what happened to the dog she found in Doncaster in August yet, it could well have been Dana - please please can moderator chase this please
BBKM
I feel so sad for you and what you are going through but stay strong Heather, you are doing brilliant, you must not feel guilty as a dog can run off, be stolen at any time. I'm sure all the hard work everyone is doing in searching for Dana will see her reunited with you soon xx
Gillian
I really feel for you Heather. I look at our two and wonder how on earth I'd cope if one of them went missing especially for so long.

I'm really not that far away from you - about an hour over the Woodhead Pass, so if you'd like some company in your search on Friday or Saturday I am free to come over for a few hours. I haven't offered before as I seem to have been really busy but our latest visitors have now left and I would really like to help you look for Dana.

Let me know if you'd like me to come and help - the only thing I'd like to do is to try and avoid rush hour on that bit of the M1, otherwise I'm free all day, Friday and Saturday. x

Hi All

Thanks for your offers of help regarding my Girl DANA, I just cannot put into words just how i feel, so here goes, its a roller coaster of emotion day in and day out, the feelings of guilt wear away at you , then I think what will I do if she is not found especially as the days and more the nights are drawing in, anybody who has a sighthound they will know what I mean. Also DANA was my sons Whippet and I feel that I have also let him down by not keeping her safe, before he was posted to Afghanistan Baz said look after the Girls (The Whippets) Mum, so then this happens and how do I feel not great, I am still searching for about 4 hours everyday looking for her, but how do I know shes in the area, thats the trouble, I dont, so I just keep on searching everywhere and anywhere, so Barry my Son if you are up there PLEASE give your Mum a clue as to where to look next (I need all the help I can get)

My heart felt thanks to all those wonderful people out there who have been my eyes and ears throughout the area, I cannot put into words how grateful I am for Dogs Lost never ending support in this the most (for myself) trying time and believe me I have been right up the top of the scale of stressful times and this is near the top, so if you can spare the time to print off a few posters from the Dogs lost site just search for DANA and stick them up throughout your area, Both DANA and myself will be eternally grateful and should you ever be in this situation you can count on my unending support

THANK YOU ALL I COULD NOT HAVE GOT THIS FAR WITHOUT YOUR HELP

off to search the local fields today after taking Mum to Hospital, going to sit in the Car with my trusty Flask of Tea and see if the Whippet seen around the area is DANA, keepmall bits crossed and send the vibes over to us !

Heather and DANA x x x x x

The tracker dog who came out before is mine. My problem is, as I have posted somewhere on this thread, that I can't work her along main roads or in busy urban areas as she is quite highly strung and hates traffic. She is at her best in fields and woodlands.

smudge i've emailed it to hodgepig on sheff forum - can she send it on to you..or if you can somehow get your email addy to me i'll send it on to you - basically bigger pic, bigger text, less wording, more striking than before, thanks x

Please can a moderator get in touch with Langela regarding the brindle dog she found (info on tigerlily thread think 27834) - what happened to the dog she found in august ...Last edited: 2011-10-03 14:03:18 by joanne5600
Berties Family
thank you....as for doglost I will always do my best to assist
Gillian
Ah, got you. It was me who posted on the Whippet Forum when Louis went missing. Glad that had a happy ending. Hope for the same for Dana and Zak :)
Berties Family
hi Gillian, i am on the whippet forum but not been on much lately. My mums dog - Bertie went missing about 7 years ago and that was when we found the wonderful dog lost. We rehomed a whippet beginning of the year Louis who was let out by new family and we searched all night - eventually got him back following day so know how it feels.
Gillian
This may be a silly question Berties Family but I wondered if I know you! Are you on the Whippet Forum or K9?Last edited: 2011-10-02 16:42:11 by Gillian
Berties Family
we have a big whippet who is quite often mistaken for a greyhound. I saw the details about the dog and was hoping it was Dana, just wish she was missing near me....I would be able to do more
Gillian
No, it's not on Facebook. Scroll down Dana's page here to the 23rd September and you'll find the original mention of it by Bertie's Family.

I see what you mean about the greyhound/whippet thing. We have two big whippets and people who don't know the breed always think they are greyhounds! But if someone has seen the posters they would see the photo of Dana so shouldn't really be confused in that way (you would hope anyway!) xLast edited: 2011-10-02 09:04:37 by Gillian

Thanks for that gillian but no wiser as i can't access facebook at the moment, i presume its some one on there, must have forgot to put a phone number or the wrong number on? Just had a thought do you think some one has dana and wrongly thinks she is a greyhound cos as heather says she is rather bigger than the average whippet & resembles a small greyhound? so they are thinking this is not her , if you see what i mean, just me thinking....Last edited: 2011-10-01 23:38:42 by dorofin

The Doncaster one was on Tigerlily's page (don't know the ID number). Quite a long time ago now though. This is what the person said

2011-08-18 10:36 Langela
I live in Doncaster area. Have recently found a stray with very similar description. She is very young but looks as though she may have had pups at some time. I realise we are quite a way from Taunton, but you never know. Have tried the mobile number given on the posting but it is not recognised. Any other numbers available so that I can make contact?

So sad this was not dana ,it had to be checked though, whats this about a whippet in doncaste?, i have been checking lost & found dogs in south yorks and have not seen a whippet bitch on there apart from a fawn white parti? found on 5th august & i belive dana was not lost till 13th august?. Well what do we do now? like i said i am sorry can't do tomos cos on committe and its our show and cos i have got all the rosettes ect, i think iwill get shot if i go walk about!!!!!..I still want to check that golf course out it is strange wispa got her scent there so she must have been there or is some one near[on a57] walking her there] just my thoughts.I belive heather has been checking out all the rescue & dog pounds does that include doncaster area?,but don't forget dana is chipped so surely this would have been found, so has some one got her along the a57 and not seen a poster [which i find hard to belive ] there is enough out there in kiveton to do my bungalow .and decided not to report that the found her because[maybe they don't know the law] or just took a fancy too her.,wish i knew the answer,so frustrating ,i think i am defo going to do the golf course at lindrick something is nagging me to do it ,i can't get it out of my headLast edited: 2011-10-01 22:59:55 by dorofin
Felix24
myself and heather both posted on there too in the last couple of weeks- no reply... can anyone on here contact the finder? ie by email/phone? doncaster is only a few fields away ...
Gillian
Was the whippet found in Doncaster ever checked out? I see Joanne asked the question yesterday on Tigerlily's page. It was thought unlikely because she was found only a few days after Dana went missing but now a lot of these sightings have proved false, there's the possibility that it could have been Dana.
Gillian
Oh what a shame the dog in the kennels wasn't Dana :(
Felix24
A lady on the sheffield forum thread for dana said that there are no posters around S25 - i know Heather was appealing in the Anston/Dinnington areas following danas disappearance.... not good to hear there are no posters there! has someone removed these too? can anyone else PLEASE help print off and put up posters in pubs/clubs/post offices/shops/ on lamp posts, near schools, PLEASE!!!!

Apart from the kind people from doglost....There are currently only four of us helping heather, we all work, have kids and it is very hard work keeping up advertising, and rushing out to every potential sighting in one village let alone other villages aswell. We love doing it, but there just arent enough hours in the day between us.

We have spent hours and hours between us, often very late at night helping Heather who has no-one else to help her look for dana

Come on there MUST be lots more good hearted people on this forum, or related forums...all the threads Ive read show there are some damn good eggs on this site - for giving advice - helping others - sometimes arguing - thats life, but this poor dog has now been gone six weeks and until we hear otherwise, we will continue looking for her.

BUMP BUMP BUMPETY BUMP!! Come on good people of south yorkshire.... 50 posters x 10 people around all villages off the A57 would make a MASSIVE difference...

Felix24
hi all, had a call from Heather, unfortunately the dog at the kennels isnt dana :(
BBKM
Keep checking here...hope the dog in the kennels on preloved is Dana x Keeping everything crossed x
dorofin
Time to get the dog warden in!!!!.Are these owners trying to send us BARMY or are they just taking the MICK.Is some one renting these dogs out to annoy us?!!!!.No point in coming over till after the girl has been viewed i hope its dana !!!! ,.I could not belive it when i read the ad & i would not have thought a whippet breeder would have described a silver brindle as a fawn brindle [never heard of that one]. any way fingers crossed.Last edited: 2011-10-01 09:47:46 by dorofin
Felix24
I don't know what to say - its like a wild goose chase because there's yet another dog roaming around that is a lurcher type, White grey n brown which is also being mistaken for Dana ! Heather has got someone viewing the advertised one tomorrow but she's away until Monday so we may be no wiser till then - I just can't believe it I have never seen any stray dogs in this village and now we are looking for one two damn similar ones are freely roaming the village- hoping Heather can get the appeals in the papers and fast, that might be our only chance of finding her
dorofin
Hi did not come over today as not heard anything whether the dog advertised is dana or whether the sighting is of dana and not another look alike, i am amazed this dog has not been picked up by the dog warden,as you don't see gangs of dogs roaming like you did a few years ago, we called these latch key dogs cos the owners would let them out while they were out at work and then expect the dog to come home when they arrived back, the arrival of the dog wardens sorted that one out.thank goodness. So totally confused as what to do and where to look am i looking in wales [top end of kiveton park] or what ? I can come for a while tomos but sunday i am on yssc committe and it is our club open show so sundays out.Last edited: 2011-09-30 21:11:30 by dorofin
Whippetlover
Can somebody please bump Dana again due to yesterday's sighting?
Felix24
however - Heather took a call last night to say dana was seen about 5.30pm last night around wales high school - same village, opposite side of main road, this person did say she was sure it was dana as she'd been looking at the posters and thought what a lovely colour she was.... ill have another drive round there later too if theres no luck with roeadean
Felix24
right, following another sighting on the walesmoor estate we went straight up and saw the said wandering whippet - this is definitely NOT dana - it has a shaggy tail, it's darker, and is a male. The reason it is sighted round the bungalows a lot is because the owners grandma lives there. so that rules out the sightings on that estate. I've just spoken to Heather she knows the lady at roedean and is ringing her as we speak to ask what this dog looks like - where did she come from - etc etc. Fingers crossed! xx
BBKM
Great Felix24, lets hope this is Dana, you are all doing a fantastic job trying to find her. Everything crossed for this morning xx
I too find it strange that a good Whippet breeder/kennels would advertise on preloved??
joanne5600
liz to the rescue whilst heathers away, keep us informed, on way home called in sheffield spring street kennels no whippets in there, the more help we get the better Last edited: 2011-09-29 23:27:54 by joanne5600
Gillian
Have also got in touch with my dog's breeder who I think may still be in touch with Roedene kennels as my Jonah's mother was a Roedene dog owned by her. So I'm hopeful we will get an answer soon.
Felix24
I'll ring in the morning - ive never heard of that website - what a very strange place for a kennel co to advertise a dog don't you think? with regards the other dog which is local - i agree it is a bit of a coincidence and i shall continue driving round until i see it for myself!
joanne5600
that would be great Gillian, we need to find her would be great, looked at the advert it says 1 year old but you never know, shame theres no photo
BBKM
I agree Gillian, maybe a co ordinator will call or someone who has been heavily involved with finding Dana x I will log back on first thing tomorrow to check for updates and advice x
Gillian
Just realised that the person concerned owns the brother of one of my dogs - thought the name was familiar!
Gillian
Message has been sent though there may be someone who wants to try ringing as well. It would be so fantastic if this were Dana :)Last edited: 2011-09-29 22:43:22 by Gillian
BBKM
Can a doglost co ordinator advise please? I don't think there would be any problem with calling the kennels and explaining the situation, this lady loves whippets and I'm sure if it is Dana she will want her returned to her rightful owner xxLast edited: 2011-09-29 22:41:28 by BBKM
Gillian
I've found a name on the Roedean website who has a few whippet owning friends in common with me on Facebook. Think I might send her a message - will need to think about the wording carefully!
BBKM
Worth ringing the lady who runs these kennels and getting this dog checked before she goes to a new forever home, hope it is Dana xx

Think Heather mentioned that Dana was two years old
Gillian
And the address is Carlton in Lindrick - no distance from where Dana was lost.
BBKM
Re preloved advert, the contact name is Roedeane which is a whippet kennels (www.roedeanewhippets.co.uk) you can call anytime 01909 732458
Whippetlover
Worth checking out the dog in the advert too ... Does anybody know how old Dana is?Last edited: 2011-09-29 22:17:33 by Whippetlover
Whippetlover
I definitely think its worth checking out the Dana "look-a-like" - it just seems too much of a coincidence that there is another dog in the area that is roaming, thin and matches Dana's description. And if it's not Dana, what is its owner doing allowing it to roam the streets? This could still be Dana and its defnitely worth checking out.
BBKM
Preloved dog really needs checking out, just read it on website, even says the dog is timid ???
dorofin
I have just seen an advert placeed yesterday on preloved for a [says] 1 year old fawn brindle white trim whippet bitch, says it is not theirs but fostering it because the previous home was not suitable [they say it is inoccolated but have lost the card] hmmm. trying to reaquest a picture seems funny WORKSOP AREA.Thanks for the info Basil.
BBKM
So sorry Dana is still missing. With ref to the underfed dog on the estate, you could do the following...If anyone can get close up to this dog and check for the scar Dana has on her elbow, if its visable on this dog then the police can be called immediately.....or if there is a person who has actually seen this dog at a particular house and thinks it is Dana and is willing to confirm this to the police, you could contact the police and the dog warden and I believe they will go to the house and scan the dog. Good luck hope she is back home soon xxLast edited: 2011-09-30 11:22:34 by Goldenfrodo

Hi yes i agree ,i know what you are saying so i suppose when heather comes back maybe if she wanted i could go with her ,if it isn,t dana then there is no reason for them to not let us see the dog is there, just so frustrating that we seem to have been chasing a red herring, i wonder if she still has the collar &lead on? any way i still think i would like to look over at the golf course as wispa defo got a scent there.Last edited: 2011-09-29 21:19:53 by dorofin
Felix24
dorothy my hubby is good friends with the uncle of the owner of the (underfed) dog - and he spoke with him today and he did confirm that that dog does wander around a lot and is very similar looking to dana - no reason not to trust what he said ...but yes you're right someone else also suggested we need to knock on their door and ask to see that dog, just to be absolutely sure it isnt dana. Problem now is Heather is away until monday, and because i live in the same village I dont want any bother (long story) so I think I'm better off not getting involved in that visit if you know what i mean. I've put another post on the LOST AND FOUND site on the sheffield forum... someone somewhere must know something, just such a shame its taken so long for anyone to tell us there is a big chance we're looking in the wrong village :(
dorofin
I was told a simailer tale when i was there on tues , but thought it was a wind up, is it possible to get to see this dog so we know for sure that every one has been seeing this one and not dana? all i can think of is repostering in the other areas maybe the two men who were seen stroking the dog we thought was dana could help,at least tell us if they left the dog on the street , i feel so sad for you heather ,why were we not told this weeks ago, never mind its just knowing where to look.Did wispa not get a scent trail of dana at the lindrick golf course?chin up never say never.... I think i am going to look in that area tomosLast edited: 2011-09-29 20:55:28 by dorofin
Felix24
Received a call yesterday from a gentleman in the area who has received one of our flyers to say that there is a very thin underfed similar coloured whippet that lives on the estate and is often roaming around. A friend of ours who is related to the owner of that dog confirmed that it is often out on it's own, and it is similar looking to Dana. We now fear it is this dog that people have been ringing up about by the dozen and that dana isnt in this village after all. Heather is going to get an appeal in the worksop/dinnington guardian and hopefully the sheffield star - this is a right kick in the teeth after the many, many hours we've spent searching for her and putting up posters but at least I've made two new friends and we have enjoyed the walking! we need to spread the word now to all areas off the A57, near Anston, where she was seen several times trotting down the road with her lead still on the days following her attack by the bigger dogs. There's woodsetts, todwick, north anston, south anston, todwick, aston, swallownest, worksop, killamarsh, woodhouse - all accessable by road and field from the A57.Any more ideas what we can do anyone please?

Advertised in The Countryman's Weekly magazine this week. Good luck, I hope it brings some news.
DogLostOwl
Depends where the sighting is. As you know, Wispa can't track alongside fast main roads. We are currently rushed off our feet with tracking, just been out 2 days running and may be out again tomorrow and then Wispa needs a day off. We will help if we can. Will have to see how it goes.
whipmum
met up with Liz and Joanne (thanks Ladies) posted flyers through quite a few doors, called at Thonberry no sightings there, had a few members of public saying they had seen DANA in the past few days, so feel more hopeful she's still around the area, it certainly a roller coaster ride of emotion, just wondered if we get a reliable positive sighting wondered if Pheobe and Wispa could come over and track DANA aagain ?
whipmum
Hi Dorofin----feeling loads better, thanks for searching today, I am back on the case in the morning, good to know the biscuits have been eaten, hope it was DANA, she must be so thin now and not the little porker that ran off, will be posting leaflets through dorrs tomorrow, Yes I have been out morning , noon and night just think its a case of right time right place to see her and soon it will be the right place !
dorofin
Hi heather hope you are feeling better & hope your mum is too?.Well i walked all round the estate calling dana's name softly, saw the hidey hole in the overgrown ,untidy garden[great place too hide]got a few strange looks when i started looking under cars ,caravans ect, walked all round this estate ,right up the backs down the ginnel,on to the fields and up towards old kiveton colliery, walked right up backs saw all your new posters and a few have been ripped down [numptys] saw a lady with a pale whippet dog ,says she has spoken to you before and she is looking for dana ,she also said she had been putting some food out jusst in case dana appears then she could get in the garden as it has a 6foot fence allround, bless her she also said that the biscuits were eaten last night
[for the first time] but don't know if it was dana.anyway i carried on walking right up the backs of the new estate till i got to the main colliery entrance where there is a big clock. and tennis courts. plenty of hidey holes there.also found a duvet a clean one thrown away i looked under there just in case[i know a dog that likes duvets] dana ,i bet she has spotted that one, walked all the way back out the main entrance it brought me out at the railway station ,walked back down the high street towards community centre car park, went in co op got a bite to eat a drink of coke, then walked back round the walesmoor estate again nothing ,i think with the lovely warm day she was having a siesta, left there out 6pm got home 6,45.never mind good luck tonight if you are out and hope to be with you tomoz.chin up never say never....Last edited: 2011-09-27 20:37:46 by dorofin

Hi Whipmum - At what time are you doing your searches? I have just read on another post that somebody else found the best time to look was just before sunrise or sunset. Have you tried any dawn searches?
whipmum
Hi ow, sorry for not replying to your left messages my phone did not tell me that a message had been left until it had deleted the message automatically, hope you and wispa are still doing a wonderful job, went out last night with liz and Debbie and reposted in the area, told all dog walkers we met about DANA'S plight, thats more eyes and ears on the job, will walk around the area around 3pm as this appears to be the time she comes out for a roam
DogLostOwl
Bumped to top for sighting.
joanne5600
Hi heather, I have beem round the walesmoor area this morning and up the lne nr the church and cemetery and told everyone i saw that there was a sighting yesterday, a group of worksman are on the lookout and the warden of the oap bungalows is going to be informed (just in case she in one of the homes), there were alot of people in their gardens so they were all asked, alot said that the posters were not there anymore, hope to help on wednesday unless i can get before
Felix24
Hi, looking forward to seeing you later - keep your chin up it's my mission to find her!! as I said I've emailed Wales High School, they've been brill in agreeing to print and distribute and display her posters throughout the whole school / there's about 2000 pupils there. I'm just waiting for Wales Junior school to reply to me - I've printed off a lot more posters and am ready to go!
whipmum
Forgot to add that DANA was spotted yesterday on Church Street , will send text and get DANA bumped up the list !, thanks for all the phone calls and text received they are really helping keep up my morale whilst my Girl is on walkabout
whipmum
Hi all. cant believe the support given on our search for DANA, cant thank everybody enough, more eyes on the job the better, once again thanks liz for your support you are a star and now honarary Auntie of DANABANANA, we will be searching the area tonight if antone is available, at the moment have Mum ill so have to split myself into two places at once, once again thanks to all, now Iternet seems to be playing up, it doesnt rain but it pours ! x
Felix24
thanks everyone, heather and i have been gently calling her name the whole time we've been searching - a lady off the sheffield forum met up with me tonight, she knows what she's talking about with regards to finding dogs - POSTERS POSTERS and MORE POSTERS, it only takes one person to tell us where her little hideout is. I'm going to approach the schools tomorrow too to see if they can perhaps mention dana in assembly - we are going again tomorrow night - posters everywhere - debbie suggested perhaps to change the wording on the poster - short and sweet but bigger text - and as suggested below maybe dont chase her please just ring us asap. Come on Dana auntie Liz is determined to find you!!!!!
CP
So relieved to hear Dana has been sighted again. Feel it's a great idea for Heather to call Dana's name whilst searching (gently not urgently) as she could well recognise her voice, whereas she may stay hidden or flee if she hears only movement. Really hoping for success for you in this overgrown garden. I do hope the posters are amended like Whippetlover suggests; it would be far more helpful, as there have been so many people approach her on various sightings and she's run off.
Gillian
Great news that Dana has been seen again. Was just about to write and suggest a leaflet drop then read the post below! Seems a good idea to me as she's been seen so often in the same area. Might spur people on to search their gardens more thoroughly.
Whippetlover
Would it be an idea to call her name whilst searching in this area?Last edited: 2011-09-25 18:33:10 by Whippetlover
Whippetlover
So relieved there has been another sighting since incident with the car. I'm just wandering if you should print some leaflets off and post them through letterboxes in the area where she has been sighted. Also, it might be worth saying on the posters something like "IF SIGHTED DO NOT APPROACH AS HE SHE IS SCARED AND WILL RUN AWAY. PLEASE CALL ME STRAIGHT AWAY"
dorofin
oh thats great news ,it sounds like she is ok but maybe getting wary of strangers,if you don,t get her tonight i will defoe come over tomoz mon ,keep your chin up and hope mum is soon well again.
Felix24
UPDATE - Heather is at hospital so cant get on here at the moment - but she had a phone call a couple of hours ago to say that DAna had been seen again on the Walesmoor estate - me and my husband dashed straight up and found the girls whod rang (they were sat waiting for us) they said they tried to approach Dana but she ran off up the estate again. She MUST be hiding in someones garden up there, this is about the fourth time shes been seen on that estate. We had a good look round, saw nothing, then me and mum have just had another hours walk round - found a very overgrown garden with sheds/greenhouses which looks perfect for a hiding place but will go look round there at dusk so as not to concern the neighbours. Heathers coming over when shes back from hospital, wellies on and torches charged - we'll not give up till we find her! strange thing is, last night I dreamt that a little girl had found Dana, and my mum also dreamt that she was found, in a shed! if anyone can help, the Walesmoor estate is the big estate behind the small co-op in Kiveton Park xxx
joanne5600
Hi Heather , keep your chin up she will hopefully be out there somewhere,=. On sheffield forum it says there a walk round Rother Valley and a country fayre at Ulley - I have added a link to this page on both threads asking anyone to keep a look out. Up to now i have nothing on on monday day (just school runs) so if im around i will ring and come and have alook with you...

went to cliffe recue kennels today left poster, driving home the doom and gloom of DANA's situation krept in for a minute, had to pull over to stop crying, feel really helpless and cant help thinking the worst has happened to her, just waiting for another sighting will be the first since her accident with the car, just hope shes ok
dorofin
Heather sorry i have not been over this week,my leg has been playing me up,hope to get oversoon. if someody has got her ,their eyesight must be poor you can't miss your posters, there is enough to wallpaper my bungalow, maybe she has laid low in the woods cos thats where i think she was when the fair was on,you did not see her for was it three or four days? then as soon as they went out she came, probally knocked her for six,the car incident, I still think the flyers will help, hope you are coping with the lamp ok?,what time do you normally go out in eve? cos hopefullly can get there mon or tues,i don't think she is going to risk coming near the road again ,it would have shook her up,keep your chin up.never say never....Last edited: 2011-09-23 20:35:12 by dorofin

HI Smudge yes H is ringing the vets/sanctuary/rspca etc every day, she's been round all the dog pounds today, we have posters EVERYWHERE, so you might be right, someone could have took her in - H is going to get some flyers printed off, good idea thanks
Felix24
HI Berties family, thanks for that - I've put a message on tigerlily's page but that dog was found just a couple of days after Dana went missing, and she was spotted several times in the villages surrounding her home the week or two after, but it's still worth a shot, hope Langela will get in touch xx
Berties Family
just reading through some posts and this has caught my eye - can someone look into this pls - posted on tigerlily's page - dog picked up in Doncaster area - this is a brindle bitch....

When sightings suddenly dry up like this i think it's highly likely that someone has taken the dog in. As Dana was possibly injured have you re-rung round the local vets? I would do this as a matter of urgency. Also ring the emergency vets to see if they had a dog taken in on that day. Are you ringing the pound on a regular basis? I would do this if not, just so that she isn't missed. I would concentrate my search in the immediate area of her being clipped by the car, switch to leaflets through doors rather than posters and totally blitz the area. Not everyone pays attention to posters, but they will look if a leaflet is pushed through their door. We had amazing results with the dogs that went missing in Sheffield recently - 6 out of 6 returned to their owners, all because (like you) they were prepared to put the work in. The leaflets certainly went down well. Keep your chin up x
whipmum
Thanks to Liz for carrying on the poster campaign of 'Yorkshires most wanted Whippet' whilst I had to visit my Mum in Hospital(more stress), hope DANA is spotted soon, no sightings for about 4 days now, and getting more stressed everyday, dont know what else to do, feel should be doing something but dont know what---any ideas really welcome !
whipmum
Posted further afield tonight, someone may spot her, looked in undergrowth with lamp, no sightings, just hope shes ok. come on DANA show yourself the nights are drawing in and your Duvets waiting, Thanks to Liz for her time and support
Felix24
I've put her poster on Hallam Fm's facebook page too to ask for help. See you later, we'll take the car to do the posters tonight hey?
xx
Felix24
Hi Heather if you can get some more posters I was thinking we ought to spread them to both ends of the village - ie wales bar, and hard lane as there are a lot of dog walkers go both those routes to the fields, As you've not had a sighting since last Friday it could be that she's moved on - we can do Killamarsh and Todwick too- all surrounding villages are easily accessable via fields for her where there's water too. I've had a long drive round this morning again but seen nothing - also the fishing ponds where she could be going for food/human company. I'm going to pick mum up from her hospital appointment but if you want we could go putting posters up at tea time? text me, let me know, xx
Berties Family
just keep up the good work - talk to everyone you see, get other dog walkers to be your eyes and ears.......do you have any schools local to where she has been lost - you could ask if you can put up a poster for the children to see xx
whipmum
feeling rather down at the moment, just cant get it out of my head that DANA is lying injured somewhere, must give myself a firm kick up the backside and get back on the case, sending positve vibes to both DANA and I
CP
So glad you're keeping up the good work, whipmum. It's just a question of you being there at the right time. It could be that Dana has been resting more for the last 3 days if she was clipped by a car, she may be just a bit stiff. Let's hope she'll be out and about now she's had time to recover and your searching will result in your paths crossing very soon. x
whipmum
posted more posters in the Wales school area, drove round Walesmoor Avenue, raining badly visibilty was poor, will return at dusk with lamp and carry on searching, keep safe Babygirl, we are looking for you !
whipmum
been out with Liz tonight putting up more poster down by the school, checked bushes , gardens and undergrowth with the torches, til the batteries ran flat, informed more people who will keep a look out for DANA, just need a sighting of her after her accident then I will feel a little easier

Hi Heather I've printed off a map of the area and highlighted where she's been seen - looking at that she's got to be hiding out on the walesmoor estate somewhere, or round the community centre grounds/playing fields. If you're coming over tonight let me know, i'll come with you after 6.30 - I'll bring the map to show you - don't know how to add it on here
joanne5600
hi Heather, I keep coming back hoping that shes been found, I can possibly help you look tomorrow night and wednesday day if you need some help, i am not familiar with the area so would have to meet you
whipmum

whipmum

Felix24
Been for another drive round this afternoon, too wet to walk today, I saw your post on sheff forum and I think you're right, she may be under a bush somewhere, think we need to concentrate more on gardens now than fields, I will keep going looking for her each time I get a spare half hour, if no news by wednesday (I'm off work then) I'll print off some more posters and put them all over the main street and up walesmoor ave, dont give up hope she's survived this long xxx
dorofin
Hi heather if you can get to the thornberry show tomos ,i am coming to support it, i will bring my big lamp and charger and you can borrow it as long as you need it for ,feel so sad for you, chin up .remember never say never....Last edited: 2011-09-17 21:02:41 by dorofin

BUMPED due to a SIGHTING yesterday in the main Street in KIVETON !! She was spotted around the bridal shop, when they arrives her owners were informed that a little earlier DANA (They thought it was her) wasclipped by a car but the dog ran off again. On making enquiries locally the owner was told by a lady that Dana had followed her children home from school on another occasion. So we do need anyone in this area to PLEASE keep a look out for her, call her owner when they get a sighting and if possible try to entice Dana into a garden using food and then she may keep coming back there or if the garden is secure shut the gate and keep her there and ring her owner.Last edited: 2011-09-17 12:36:32 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire

HI, just arrived home after driving around Strata and Walesmoor Ave, the street lights were off, so seeing anything was really hard, walked a way down the lane. but there were so many toads, didnt want to stand on any, so decided to call it a day, I would like to thank, Kay Liz and Dorothy for their help and support through this, It would be so much harder on my own, good luck for tomorrow Liz and just think its a celebration, he will be raising a glass x
Felix24
Hi I've been out again tonight for an hour, I went behind all the shops and houses again both sides of the road, I've put a sign on the lamp post in the big co-op car park, one in pejis pizza place and one in the window of the chinese up the top, I saw the delivery man there he knows me so he said he will keep a close eye out for her. I then went up to Wales cemetary and had a walk round there and the lane going down to the horses, nothing, but I honestly think she's in a back garden somewhere on either the main road or on waleswood road, praying for good news for you, I can go again sunday but we have the party tomorrow, please give me a ring with any news, it's so frustrating isn't it but we WILL find her xx
zakisawhippet

Felix24
Hiya, I've put a link to your poster on facebook again, and on the wall of "Harthill with Woodall", as i know there are a lot of dog walkers on there, don't forget to drop me some posters off soon as you can, Liz
whipmum
would do but not very PC literate so dont know how, just looked on a google map of the area and found the places she had been spotted.....
Whippetlover
Hi Whipmum, If you've plotted Dana on a google map, can you make it public (post the link)?
whipmum
According to the google map DANA is heading in a triangle, and may need to post at Harthill, Thorpe salvin which I will do, just wished I received a definite sighting just to now shes ok...come on DANA show yourself !

Hi Whippetlover, posted the whole link to my browser, just takes me to Zac's poste and page, any ideas....
Whippetlover
I reposted the link at the top of Zak's page yesterday evening. I've tested it myself and it works. You need to copy and paste the link into your brower. Make sure you include the last 3 characeters - da8.
Let me know if you have any further problems.
whipmum
Hi, tried to look at Zac's map but no joy, could you resend the original link as the one on his page not working, thanks.....
Whippetlover
Hi Whipmum, can you do a map plotting all the sightings? (for reference see the one on Zak's page).
whipmum
Hi Liz, DANA was spotted on Strata on the 9th Sept, so been looking around there ever since, and will continue until I hear of another sighting, will put up some more posters around that area also!, once again thanks for you help
Felix24
i've also posted on the sheffield forum, there's already a topic there on dana, i've just bumped it up to the top.
Felix24
Hi, great news that she's been sighted - when was that? the fields off the estate I live on connect to the fields at the back of the strata estate - i still have your lead and a tin of food in the back of my car - if you want me to walk with you one day I don't mind, I only work Mondays and Tuesdays, she's obviously somewhere in the area...
whipmum
Hi Liz--Thanks for your offer of help in the search for DANA, the last sighting was on the new Strata Estate at the top of Walesmoor Avenue, she ran out from behind one of the houses on the new estate and bolted towards the fields, trouble is there are quite a few differant entrances to the fields, have been out for 3 hours today looking in the fields where the Collery used to be , as there is a supply of running water there, I will check the fields behind Wales Cemetry tomorrow and find out where these fields led too I think its Harthill, will ask Kay as shes a local Lass and might know, my directions are a little vague but dont know thw area well, I will keep searching for my Girl, I want her home, stay safe DANA, at the moment Im looking anywhere even if I know she cant be there, once again Liz on behalf of DANA and I thanks again, will get some posters to you, I will sit and wait for the next telephone call saying someone has spotted DANA !, ! it only takes one callLast edited: 2011-09-13 18:45:52 by whipmum

Hi, it's me Liz (from Kiveton), I'm so sad to hear you've not found her yet, on the saturday you brought those posters over I spent afternoon and night walking the woods and the hill nearby, and putting posters up on lamp posts - and in the petrol station - the leeds arms pub - the small co-op etc. Since we've been away I've continued asking my sister in law to keep her eyes out (she regularly walks the fields with her dog), but she's seen nothing. As I told you she was last seen heading towards Wales Bar near the conyers, have you checked the fields near Rother Valley? I hope someone's taken her in and is caring for her .. if you need any more posters putting up print off as many as you like, I only work two days so I really don't mind helping.... mind you, the ones on lamp posts seem to be an attraction for kids to rip them off - but all the same, i dont' mind helping, as I told you before, I saw her that Sunday on the A57 but couldnt stop, then saw her the week after being stroked by two men near the conyers, then i saw your poster in the sanctuary... so i feel it's my duty to help you to find her, and I'll do anything I can to help, just let me know, you still have my number. PS, i also put a pic of your poster on facebook and spread it around, i'll do it again.
Berties Family
just keep doing what you are doing.......cannot wait for Dana to move to the blue, wish I was local to you to offer help and support

I couldnt go out last night to look for DANA, had a Asmtha attack, feel really guilty thatb I did not go, that wont happen ever again,Zacsmum, I at one point was getting a daily sighting, not had anything recently, so knowing where to search is a problem, Im looking somewhere that DANA may not be, so dont know really what to do, feeling really downcast today wamt to keep and will keep searching but as where who knows?, will do usual telephone calls this morning, wardens, kennels, vets etc, usually to no avail, but at least they know about DANA, oh well back to the drawing board, will just have to wait for thaat one important call !------come home baby girl, im looking for you !
zakisawhippet
Hi whipmum
glad you are still looking for Dana i too am still looking for Zak although not a word all week, gone from 8 sightings in a week too nothing! i think your doing so well and i hope you get something back soon! take care of yourself

whipmum
just returned home after spending 4 hours looking thriugh the fields near where DANA was last sighted, no sightings, the wind got really bad at one point and my other whippet would not walk any further so instead of carrying her we headed for home, still dont know if Im looking in the right area, just need another positive sighting and can conitue to search in the right place, hope with these winds shes tucked somewhere sheltered, will return again tonight at dusk

wHY DON'T YOU TRY HEADING DOWN TONIGHT? yOU MIGHT HAVE MORE LUCK WHEN IT'S QUIET. tAKE SOME OF HER FAVOURITE FOOD AND IF YOU SEE HER THE TRICK IS NOT TO BE TOO ENTHUSIATIC - YOUU NEED TO BEND DOWN AND CALL HER QUIETLY, ACT SUBMISSIVE, LET HER KNOW SHE'S NOT IN TROUBLE. SORRY FOR THE CAPS, ONLY JUST REALISED IT WAS ON!! :/

got back home tonight after checking around whitwell no sightings, then had call froma District Nurse finishing her last call whem she said she saw a dog matching the poster run from behind a house on the new Strata estate , passed her and onto the fields beyong the estate, which is the same area Dana had been spotted previously, will go there tomorrow and spend quite a while walking around and hope I spot her, the lady said Dana looked very thin and distressed, keep safe DANA im coming to get you !
smudge74
Hope it's a good lead! Just a thought - if the posters come down again get them shrunk down by 50% to make them into flyers and post them through letter boxes. They can't pull them down then!! You could also get flyers handed out at the local supermarkets round that area this weekend. We had a great response from that. Have you tried the local radio stations and papers? They are usually quite good at promoting stuff like this. Keeping my fingers crossed for you

just had a call from a lady who lives Hartill, thorpe salvin way who had been talking to a Dog Owning frienD who thought he saw DANA whilst in Whitwell woods today at arounD 3.30, said it looked like the one in the poster he saw at Kiveton, will drive over, dont know if its her or if she would have gone this far, every sighting deserves to be follwed up, will update later everybody keep everything crossed for DANA
whipmum
been reposting in the area DANA last sighted, will see if these posters disappear, just wished I could get a positive sighting then would know which way to start a search, plenty of people have offered to search if another positive sighting is reported, so come on Baby girl show yourself for a little while at least !

Heather nice to have met you & nora yesterday[wish it could have had a happy ending].that is strange about the posters taken down, if they are all in one street or area ,do you think we ought to haunt this particular street or area ,some one will have to either bring her out ,or let her out into a garden at some time, what are they like?.I will try to get over later today and go round walesmoor ave [it goes right round in a circle].chin up they can't keep her hidden forever. remember never say never....Last edited: 2011-09-08 12:48:30 by dorofin

Hi Smudge, funny but on my way home drove around Walesmoor Ave, the last place DANA was sighted and thought that quite a few of the posters had been ripped down, the wind could not have blown them down as they were stapled with quite a few ton of staples(if shares in Staples rise its because of DANA and I), the corners of the plastic with the white paper were still on the poles, so will go and replace them tomorrow, hope she is curled up by someones fire, but she needs to be home with her best buddie Nora, and there is a space at the bottom of my duvet forever DANA's, feel slighty more positive at the moment (hope it lasts), thanks to all on this site,Dave, Kay, Dorophin.Gillian, Smudge, whippetlover and all, believe me I will get DANABANANA (as shes known at home) back on my Duvet, sorry for the sometimes downbeat postings but thats only when Im feeling sorry for myself as dont know what to do next, once again thank you to all on this site without your help I would be a wreck, to Zac's mum, keep smiling chuck they will be on their way home soon !and lastly a big kissssssss from DANA (South Yorkshires most wanted) x, and print of as many posters as you like and lets get them up x
Gillian
I too am checking on all the missing whippets pages every couple of hours (sometimes more!). Always hoping for good news. Can't wait to come here one day and find them all safe and sound in the blue.

I have a (lapsed) friend who used to be vicar in Todwick. They've since moved away (to Worksop I think) but they must still have contacts in the area. I'll try and get in touch and see if they can pass the word on to anyone they know who still lives around there - the more people aware of her the better!
smudge74
Just a warning Whipmum - if you poster an area then notice a lot of the posters have been taken down be suspicious. We helped a lady whose dog went missing in Worksop and someone had found her, took her in and attempted to keep her. They pulled all the posters down in the surrounding streets so their neighbours didn't see them. Im in Aston, let me know if you need help postering/leafletting. Have you done any mass leafletting at the big supermarkets on a weekend? Went down a treat for us! My email aj.storey74@sky.com if u need any help Last edited: 2011-09-07 22:50:10 by smudge74

Just to echo the words of vickiespice and Lisa123, you and Zak's mum are both doing a fabulous job and I'm sure that sooner rather than later you are going to get your precious ones home. I too keep checking your posts every few hours for updates and only wish I were close enough to help out with the search. It seems though that alot of people are seeing your posters now, so hopefully you will have her back soon now.
Dave
We saw Dana on the 14th August at about 7.30am on the A57 just outside Anston near Anston Stones. I stopped the car and tried to catch her but she ran off towards Worksop. Sorry this information is late but I didn't know about the web site until I was walking my dog tonight in Anston Stones and I saw the poster. Good luck in finding Dana I will keep looking.

I couldn't have put it better myself vickiespice. I keep checking on Dana, Zach and Poppy's (cocker spaniel) pages every couple of hours hoping for news as you are all doing so so much for your babies. So proud of you all for going above and beyond for your doggies. I keep looking at the weather and wondering what they are doing. Sending hugs to you all xxx

went to kiveton around 4.30 tday no sign of DANA is no news good news? Iask myself on a daily basis, walked around the grounds of what used to be (I think) Kiveton collery, met Dorofin for whose company We (nora and I) were truly grateful for what is to me a traumatic time as I think today is the day I will see my Girl alas not this time, maybe next time, I will keep looking everyday until I find her !, met quite a few people and dog walkers who have been recruited into the DANA ARMY of Eyes and Ears, most already knew of the posters so postering does work---then the heavens opened and Nora was getting a little concerned about the rain (typical fairweather sighthound), so thinking that DANA would have gone to ground as she does not like the rain we headed home, very damp and very wet, thought the tears didnt help either, Keep safe Babygirl Im not to far behing you !
vickiespice
Hi. Just a few words to Dana and Zac's Mums. Hang in there, you are doing so much - you have houndlovers up and down the country rooting for you. I have to fight back the tears each time I read your posts and I have been awake these last few nights wondering how you and your whippets are getting on. I would be lost if anything happened to my greyhound, so I just wanted to send a hound-hug to you both. xx

Hi all, had a call last night late on that Dana had been spotted on the corner of Walesmoor Ave, went to look but no joy, will return around 5.00pm as this is when Dana had been spotted, she maybe hiding on the ground behind the community centre, the fair arrives for a few days from Thursday if thet are not already there, will take some flyers down today, will also take Nora my other Whippet with me

Hi there, have just seen this post on Sheffield Forum. I live in Aston. Will add this to my facebook and get some posters up around our local shops. I bet you your girl is curled up infront of someone's fire. We just need to reach them. Don't give up hope xx
joanne5600
I am hoping you find her soon, shes got to be somewhere. I wonder if you took another greyhound/whippet out with you it would help as they always seem to run to their own. I have two greyhounds and the amount of sighthounds that run up to us on walks. I have put details on Sheffield Forum and facebook, keep spreading the word. Good luck

I would go to the fair and hand out posters, also mention that she is chipped. x

I am praying for girl's safe return. You deserve this. Have you plotted the sighting son a map? Is it looking like a triangle? If so, this is her route and she will stick to it, back and forth. Well done, Dana's mummy. You are doing so well! x
CP
I would keep revisiting all the areas you have had sightings and those areas you feel are possibilities as well. When you have scoured these places previously it could be that Dana was just not there at the time you were there; it's well worth repetitive visits until further sightings/info. comes through. Sending positive thoughts and willing your girl home. x

well another windy rainy night has passed, hope Dana safe and dry
bet she has her nose well and truly tucked under her tail, keep safe Babygirl Im still looking for you, stuck more posters up yesterday in Kiveton where DANA was last seen, dont know what to do today, there is a fair coming to Kiveton thurs til sat, do you think she will head there or keep away, thought the smells may attract her and the noise may keep her away, I will go there anyway, what do poeople think, am at my wits end, dont know what to do next, feel im not doing enough but dont know what to do!, come home DANA im still looking for you !

Yes, whipmum, you certainly did the right thing. Thank you for posting the greyhound in Found section.

The nice chap who found the greyhound listed on found dogs thought it was DANA, he phoned me thinking it was Dana just as I was about to leave to get her he realised it was male alas wrong colour and sex, I posted that the dog had been found and handed in to thornberry sancturary hope I did the right thing, he was a very thin and sad looking lad, Isaw him when I did my daily check to see if Dana had been handed in
Scrappy2010
Just checked found dogs. 05 Sep 2011
this dog was handed in to Thornberry Animal Sanctury, the person handing in this Dog thought it was my lost whippet DANA. Praying this is good news. x

Hi Whipmum

If you make your comments in the 'Add a comment' box the page should stay at the bump date - if you change anything in the dogs details part then it will revert to its previous settings if that makes sense, Owl is keeping an eye on the page and re bumping if needed
Berties Family
Hi Whipmum - not sure where abouts you are but when our whippet went missing we were advised to contact further afield than Sheffield - so contacted Rotherham too - go through the vets list on this board and call them all and pass microchip number if you have not already done this - know the upset you are going through but have learnt how resilient whippets actually are....sending positive thoughts to you
whipmum

well just had my first crank call since Dana went walkabout, had call, number witheld informing me that Dana was with this person outside the animal sanctury, when I arrived there were about 6 youths stood on the opposite side of the road all laughing, when I started to approach them and ask about Dana they all rode off on their bikes and left one of the posters on the floor---- drove home whilst crying buckets keep safe Dana Im still looking for you !Last edited: 2011-09-04 21:49:06 by whipmum

Notice, Whipmum, that your earlier posting today is a third reference to a sighting around the Lord Conyers pub over various days. This looks relevant to me; somewhere I reckon you may wish to regularly visit at various, quiet, appropriate times of the day if you're not doing so already. I notice you said at beginning of thread that Dana is chipped but it does not indicate that at the top of this page, which you may like to have altered; I feel it's important to have that correct for quick reference. Also, I can't seem to locate how Dana became lost, so if it was on a walk in woods, have you revisited the area regularly? These are just passing thoughts I just wish to draw your attention to.... x
Gillian
Most definitely not crazy! I would love all the lost dogs to find their way home but as I own two whippets of my own the breed is particularly close to my heart. I think about Dana and the other missing whippets many times throughout the day and am always refreshing their pages hoping to see them in the blue. I do hope you find her soon - can only imagine how you must be feeling - I know what I would be like - just as 'crazy' as you if it were one of mine missing.

Please turn up safe and well soon Dana xLast edited: 2011-09-04 11:35:27 by Gillian

Well whipmum if people think you are crazy then that makes every person on this site crazy too, as we are all on here to help find all the lost dogs registered on doglost. You are doing a wonderful job searching for your Dana. Good luck I hope she is back home very soon with you xxx
whipmum
Well Owl, I for one dont feel crazyyyyyy, thanks for your efforts in the search for Danabanana as she is known at home !, just had a call from a lady who thinks she spotted a dog very similer to Dan around Walesmoor Avenue near Lord Conyers pub, so am off to look around ther, keep everything crossed !

If you are crazy, whipmum, so am I because I spent yesterday afternoon in heavy denims and gardening gloves, rummaging through the rough on Lindrick golf course.Last edited: 2011-09-04 10:46:44 by Owl

Well was up at crack of Sparrows today (6.00am) to check the fields behind the Hospice, bumped into I believe it was partner to one of the farmers, explained the situation to her, she said that they have a Lurcher of similer colour to DANA, so could this have been the whippet that was sighted, I just dont know, People already think Im crazy to keep on looking , but if the Boot was on the other foot what would they do, so still no wiser than I was before, getting much fitter though with all this walking, ! keep safe baby girl Im looking for you and wont give up !
CP
Thinking of you, Whipmum, and hoping you have some luck when you return to the recent sighting this afternoon. Am guessing you've had some briefing on how to approach Dana after such a period of time has elapsed, if she did show herself? It is important you use the right technique after all this time as she may well not recognise you. Do get some advice as she could well run from you and not run to you in her present state of mind. x
whipmum
Had a cakk fron owl, taday ststing Dana being seen, headed for the fields behind the Hospice no sign of Dana, will go back when the sun drops Dana does not like the heat so may well be lying low, Kay you thought she might head this way, will get more posters printed and posted over the weekend, been ill for a few days, but feel loads better today, back to the search for me !---keep safe Dana im looking for you !
Goldenfrodo
I do hope this is Dana. xx Stay safe lovely girl until you are found.

Berties Family

whipmum
thanks so much to Pheobe and WISPA for their tracking efforts, will go down and poster that area, will also walk Nora through the woods, Dana may smell her !, once again thanks to all, not been well passed couple of days so this is a boost, keep safe dANA, WE WANT YOU HOME !
DogLostOwl
Please will everyone keep eyes peeled around Lindrick golf course and surrounding woods on A57 Worksop Rd. No sighting but Wispa and I were scouring the area for several hours today and after pursuing an air scent to a quarry SW of the golf course she appeared to get some ground scent which led through the golf course and a pedestrian underpass coming out on the north side of the main road. She then turned back west along the links. By this time Wispa had done enough for one session and was beginning to lose concentration so we had to call it a day.
Jenni S
Sorry this is nowhere near me, but do hope Dana is soon safely back home.
CP
Hi Whipmum, feel for you so much; you're bound to have ups and downs, that's the nature of the beast as they say. With the few sightings you've had, have you been able to map this triangle that people talk about when dogs are lost and appear to be trying to return home? Someone more knowledgeable than I would explain, it just depends on how many sightings there have been, as I understand it. However, you seem to be doing one great job of postering and, from my experience on DogLost, that's the main, most successful route of getting these babes back. You carry on doing just that, you can't do too much of it and it only takes one person to see a poster in the right place to do the trick. At the same time you feel productive and less frustrated as you are physically doing something. I still urge you to pester local radio stations and try for newspaper coverage.....
whipmum
Think im going to to have a down day today, its getting colder at night and just dont know what to do next, please Dana show yourself and I can come and bring you home !
CP
It's good to see Dana's details and her picture on Animal Wardens site so quickly. C'mon little darling, give your mum some clues; it's time you were back where you belong. x
whipmum
posted in todwick, Harthill, will go further afield need to get more posters printed, all I need is another sighting then I know which direction to head in !
whipmum
Thanks for the tip CP, Dana has now been included on the site, just had a call from the Dog Warden about a Whippet that has been picked up, been to see her, alas it was not Dana, though for a few moments my spirits rose !---keep safe Dana, im looking for you !

june [millies mum] and her mum in law and myself ,went to todwick today to check out the field where millie was found just in case dana was there.no sighting ,then we went to thornberry animal sanctury, they are having a 3 day open day thingy selling bric a brac and stuff ,clothes ect.we had not got in the front door and this woman collect the entrance fee said that a woman had rung them early this morning saying she had seen dana with the collar and lead on nr the a57,then she rang back later and said as she was driving through dinnington later she had seen the same dog being patted by two men but she did not think to stop. When we were still at the sanctury the lady on reception said a woman had come in and taken pictures of dana's poster, was this the woman who had spotted her, or was it a friend of the two men who were seen patting her. i do hope if they have taken her that they do the decent thing and take her back to heather. After i left thornberry dove to dinnington 3 times anston kiveton park and wales nothing.Last edited: 2011-08-27 17:41:31 by dorofin

BUMPED as there was been a possible SIGHTING of Dana yesterday in KIVETON S26 near the Lord Conyers Pub. However the sighted dog was not wearing a lead
Whippetlover
Hi Whipmum. This sound like a good lead. How far away is this from the area she went missing? Can you phone your local radio station so you can appeal to a wider audience? Even if its done under the guise of requesting a tune to lift your spirits, you might get the opportunity to slip in the fact that you lost your dog 2 weeks ago and you are desparate to have her back. Its got to be worth a try.
CP
This sounds like something to work on at last; I do hope it brings something positive. Please remember, whipmum, about my suggestion of inserting an ad. in a local paper in the next area to yours (if success eludes over the w/e) - these boundary lines for newspapers are crucial as, of course, dogs so easily slip over into another post code. Best of luck with this latest sighting.
whipmum
DANA has been sighted in Kiveton S26 yesterday, heading for Wales, she was last seen anround the Lord Conyers pub, no lead but looking very thin, the caller will post posters in this area, I have been looking in totally the wrong area! hope this is a positive sighting
dorofin
So sorry to hear about your mum, hope she willl soon get better,i presume i will be able to contact you on this number you have on the site[on poster]?Have you been to thornberry sanctury latley ,because the farmer who found millie said if he could not have got in contact he would have taken her there.I know you said you had been checking every day ,we will have to pop in there today, try not to worry ,hopefully we will find her very soon .remember never say never......Last edited: 2011-08-27 10:12:49 by dorofin

Thankyou soooooooo much with your offers of help, they are gladly accepeted I will not be able to search for Dana tomorrow as Mum has been taken into hospital as emergency (more stress), tomorrow will be the first time since Dana went missing that I will not have searched for her, good luck with the search, please pass on me thanks to all concerned, Dana is very food driven(probably more so since disappeared) so might be able to be approached this way I do hope that you are luckier than me and get a sighting, once again thanks to Kay for her support

kayr
I have a feeling that she may be heading towards the hospice behind thornberry as i know heather walks her down there but from the other end of the walk off church lane at dinnington, had a ride round at 8 ish tonight didn't see any thing or even any one to stop and ask , will help heather post industrial estates nr thornberry monday if no joy over weekend and heather i have that knitting pattern for you (Whippet/greyhound coat)
dorofin
Hi i have just got off the phone ,i was talking to millies breeder .I was enquiring how she had got on at the vets as she took her last night,,i told her about dana and the fact i keep getting a feeling that dana may be in the todwick area and she has kindly agreed to and her mum in law to help me look for dana ,she is picking me up at steadfolds lane about 12.30 and we are going to search the field where millie was found first, then the sufrrounding areas, apparently the field is down the road from thornberry animal sanctury. I have your phone number in case we spot her. chin up .remember never say never....Last edited: 2011-08-26 19:36:54 by dorofin

Had a lovely call from a Whip owner in the area asking if we have found her, said no , so he will keep looking in local area, he saw the poster and called, so at least the poster campaign is working!, so thats another pair of eyes out there !
whipmum
Thanks for your words Dorofin they are noted, have just got back from walking through the fields with my other Whippet, but the rain got to much for her, so returned home will try again later, not having any recent sightings of Dana just feel im shooting in the dark, just one sighting then I would know which direction to be heading in, but no news is goog news, Railtrac called me today to report no sightings of any animals found in my local area thank goodness!, keep safe babygirl we are looking for you Dana !
dorofin
Searching for millie has opened my eyes a bit ,we were concentraiting on the area where she was sighted, dog's logic trying to find owner ,moving around,i have read on here that some one said they move in a triangle, well when i looked at where millie was found she had moved straight down probally across fields [due to no sightings] ,but i have looked at where dana was lost and if she is moving in a triangle if she is moving right to left she could be in todwick [same as millie],if she is moving left to right then she could be in firbeck, stone or maltby or surrounding areas, just my thoughts on this ,i now am thinking no sightings either moved on or laying low. hope this helps .i will be able to come over tomorrow .husband thinks i have got a fella over your area ,i have been over there more than home. don't forget chin up.never say never.Last edited: 2011-08-26 11:53:01 by dorofin

I've put details of Dana on the whippet forum for you. I can't imagine what you're going through at the moment. We have two whippets and know how awful I would feel if one of them went missing. Really, really hope Dana turns up safely very soon.
dorofin
i feel very sad for you right now,but take heart apart from one sighting of millie ,we never had anymore as she had gone to ground in the corn fields, maybe dana is hiding in there also? chin up and i will come back over and see if i can see her.It may be a longshot but if you could let the local farmers know and give them your contact number, they will keep an eye out for you, it was purely by chance that millies breeder had spoken to the farmer who found her and who knew straight away who she was, also they are cutting the corn now so if dana is in there ,theres a good chance they will spot her.Last edited: 2011-08-25 18:45:56 by dorofin

Whipmum, thinking of you and Dana right now. Did you manage to contact any radio station as Whippetlover suggested? The sympathy aspect of Dana's plight, i.e.through being frightened by other dogs, would surely make them agree to broadcast something about her. It would be a great help. Could you also contact your local newspaper and, therefore, get wider coverage of her disappearance? Even a local paper in an area next to yours would be of help in case Dana has gone a little over your locality boundaries. You would also feel less frustrated as it must be so difficult for you to not know what to do next.
Whippetlover
Hi Whipmum. I have shared details of the 3 missing whippets again (Dana, Zak & Indy) on the Scruples Whippet Rescue Facebook Page again.Last edited: 2011-08-25 17:14:42 by Whippetlover

Hi all. I have beeen back to the last place Dana was seen and left a piece of her bedding and her favourite toy along with some tasty morsals, dont even know if she is there, so if the food vanishes she may be around, or, the foxes may think that Christmas has come early this year, though dont think they would appreciate the yellow squeaky Chicken !

Millie the sheltie has been found in a cornfield at Todwick, on the north side of the A55, and is now safe at home after almost a month on the run ... so keep your chin up Heather! Wispa sends you lots of kisses.

thinking of you!
Whippetlover
Hi Whipmum. I've been checking every day to see if your beautiful girl has turned up. Unfortunately I am also too far away to help. I feel so sorry for you but please don't give up hope. I have a further suggestion - try and put an appeal out to your local radio station. If they refuse to give you air time at first, beg them, somehow I feel you need to reach a mass audience in case she has gone a little further afield. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she turns up as soom as possible. Have shared a posting on the Scruples Facebook page.
CP
Sorry to state the obvious, whipmum, but just feel want to help so much but far too far away so, for what it's worth, have you checked out with rescue centres where she would be taken if found, just in case someone has passed her in? In my haste, I can't see any posting saying this has been done. My heart goes out to you; you must be exhausted searching all hours. Keep up your good work though and know that we're all praying for you both to be reunited as quickly as possible.
whipmum
been back again this morning no sighting---will return tonight and leave her Vetbed and her favourite toy along with some food, dont know if this will help but need to do something !---come home Dana you've been gone far too long !

Hi all----have checked the whipppet found in S5, but its not my Dana, wish it was, Dana is a Tiger brindle and the Whip found is a Marble brindle, Dana was wearing a all in one collar and lead, so without the lead the collar would have gone also as one was threaded through the other, she was not wearing any id(a mistake never to be repeated), hope we find the owner of the lost Girl, Iwent searching last night until dark, but dont know the area well, but am returning today with the help of Kay (bless her), and hope we see Dana
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
yes I have just seen this found dog too yettontop ! its hard to tell from the photo but its does look quite like Dana but maybe a bit darker ? We did get a good trail from the road where James saw Dana and it led down a private track to farmland. Permission was given to search, and the scent led to a large locked enclosure with sheds etc. A whippet could have got in easily. At that point we could follow no further so went home and left whipmum to make contact with owners of this piece of land, who are there regularly.
whipmum
Just back home from looking for my girl--no luck but will keep trying---she was seen on the road called the wells hope im rightby james a locl paperboy at around 8am today. have posted more posters in this area, at least she smoving in the right direction away from the main road, would like to thank Phoebe and her girl for their help also Kay thanks to you both and a big lick due from Dana !, will head back there before dusk
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Another SIGHTING has come in of Dana !! A paperboy saw her at 8am (still with her lead attached) about 2 miles from the the garage and in a safer area way from the dual carriageway that the garage is situated on. Hopefully she will stay in the quieter areas. so far both sightings have been around 8am which indicate she may be laying low during the daytime. Come on Dana your Mum is looking for you xxx

my whippett was found on monday, she had been missing for five days after being attacked by 3 dogs, we were told whippetts run in a straight line when scared, and that they can hide for along while then come out when there ready, sky was badly injured, but is now recovering....

At last there has been a SIGHTING of Dana which was yesterday morning!!!! post by her owner as follows....after a changover of staff at the Shell station been informed by them that Dana was at the garage at 8.30 this morning she tried to put her foot on the lead but she ran away---just so

I have spoke to dog walkers have asked children and bike riders to keep an eye out.
Posters will be up today (thanks to Kay for her help).
hope she is still the area though still a long way from her sofa (she is not a streetwise hound, not used to traffic etc}, so will be very scared, though she loves her food and could be enticed that way if seen........please please please help find Dana our little group of Whippets is not complete......on behalf of Dana THANK YOU

She is chipped but not tagged, she ran away wearing the collar and lead, hope she is not trapped by the lead somewhere, so please check your gardens if you live in the area
She is not a timid girl, but will be frightened, , Her soulmate Nora keeps standing by the gate waiting for her, she has not eaten since Dana went missing we all want her home safe !Last edited: 2011-08-16 09:34:52 by whipmum

Admin
Sorry to see that DANA SIGHTED is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (31884)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
