Spencer's story was featured tonight on Channel 4's Pet Detectives programme. Lovely ending - I hope he is now settled into his new forever home. xx

Bit of a tricky dilemma, Shelties Mum. If Spencer were to become aware of a fair sized dog on his trail he might be unnerved and move further away. At present he seems to be staying away from the motorways, we don't want to flush him back out on to them. I did of course take Wispa out after Tallie the sheltie in Leics twice, she got the trail ok but Tallie was constantly way ahead of us. The best way is to do intensive publicity, because Spencer is going to come out scavenging at some point and then he may well be seen. If he can be fed regularly somewhere then he can be trapped.
Maggie
Left a poster at Turnpike Boarding Kennels near Boughton and a farmshop/plant centre near Kempsey (this last one is a bit far out, but I know a lot of people travel to this shop for plants & they are busy at this time of year).

With the softly softly approach (which I can well understand) & the owners being so far away I am just concerned as to whether anyone is looking on a daily basis and leaving food etc for him. Under normal circumstances I could offer to drive up there and walk round daily, but due to a recent accident I am not mobile, I feel so useless and wish I could do more for poor Spencer.
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
I think we need the equivalent of Owl's fabulous tracking dog here if there is one in the area?
love Sylv xx
BaileyP
Just checking to see the latest on poor little Spencer. All posts on here about shy nature of shelties so true even if when at home with their owners they are bold as brass. Once they are 'free' they are very difficult to catch and need softly softly approach. Any noise, film crews etc may send him undercover. Amazing efforts by everyone to find him. Come home now Spencer. xx
Beaglemum
I spent some time this morning driving around the area but nothing. Loads of fields and hiding places for him. Left a poster at Vale Wildife Hospital and also left a poster with Three Counties Equine Hospital as they are just off the A38 near Strensham and their many vets get around that area and beyond. They were very interested and were going to put the poster up on their notice board in reception so that all visitors could see it also. Show yourself please Spencer.x.
CarolineMurphy
Mum works at the hospital in Worcester, will pop some posters around there and the town in hope broadening the search might help a bit xxx

maybe keep a note of these sightings as we know that lost dogs move in triangles. The place lost from would be point one. any other possibly sightings plot on a map. it will form a traingle and often a lost dog will be within this area.
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
been advised that sightings wer not spencer just a brown dog?? I suppose it depends how close th sightings were to try and compare. maybe use something close for visual comparison of height of dog etc.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
also sighted monday in same area...you can call hq for ladies mobile number as message left on ansaphone. she may be able to be more specific...0844 800 3220
Spindle
Can I make a suggestion. Once definate sighting get previous owners there asap. they will have more chance of him coming to them.
rhona
spencer was seen sunday lunchtime on common land near strensham which backs onto my house. went to look but could find no sign
Beaglemum
Does anyone know if it has been put on Hereford and Worcester Radio? They are usually very good at putting out alerts on lost animals.
I will be calling in to Vale Wildife Rescue near Tewkesbury and although it's not exactly on the doorstep they do get out that way on rescue missions etc. I will leave a poster with them.
Mollychops
Just got in Lisa. Its such a shame, lets hope we get some news soon. Owners need to keep checking daily the servicesat Strensham also the highways who patrol the motorway
miss lisa
just to let you know the sighting of spencer this morning turned out to be a false alarm...praying for a sighting soon x
Maggie
I have been following progress closely and doing some postering, but I have not been out looking or 'chasing' Spencer. Rest assured that words of warning re the nature of Shelties have been listened to.
I would be suprised if he is close to Bredon School, Bushley, it's the other side of the River Severn with nearest crossing points at Upton and Tewkesbury only - either way a long long way round for this little lad. Would be interesting to know for sure and whether postering has covered this area.
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
We have ben asked to make in known that film crew are not filming anything other than animal search putting up posters. They are not following Spencer.
doglover1
Very wise words Father Ted, Having helped search for a sheltie who was on the run for weeks I know they can be very nervous! Stay safe Spencer x
Father Ted
I have read through Spencer's page and his facebook page, I am too far away across the water to be of practical help but I am very concerned that Spencer is being followed by the camera crews and lots of people - please I beg you listen to the advice being given from owners of this breed and from coordinator Owl - they are extremely shy and flighty by nature - trying to chase or capture could have awful consequences for Spencer.
DogLostCJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
Could it be a spelling error as there is a BREDON school. Bredon School Pull Court Bushley Tewkesbury Gloucestershire GL20 6AH ...
Maybe this one?? If so i would say this is where the sighting must have been .
Maggie
Good news re the pretty definate sighting. Out of interest, where is Little Kelmerton and Brewdon School. Can't find Little Kelmerton on multi-map.

Sorry if I caused confusion re the filmings, it was what Animal Search people told me, just shows one shouldn't believe everything one is told! Ah well we can only try our best. Fingers crossed for Spencer, he's the one who matters most.

JUST TO CONFIRM

Doglost and Jayne are NOT INVOLVED with any filming of this dog although they have been filming with other cases for the same programme.

This breed is one that we would take extra caution with and would NOT ADVISE any chasing of this breed.

Thanks to all helpers for posters and keeping us up to date of any news.

Maggie
What a good idea, Beaglemum. I don't know how to access the air ambulance site either, but it's close to the services so I've just e mailed a poster to them. If they've already got one then another won't hurt!

Mollychops - If the sightings are not confirmed could he have gone further away?
Poor Spencer if our thoughts could bring you home you would be safe.
Beaglemum
Yes Maggie, I know that bridge and I cross it weekly when I travel up from Glos to Bidford on Avon. He could easily have used that as a crossing which I hope he has done as it is much safer! It is very rural around there so he could hide out and lie low. Just hope that he is spotted soon. My dog training people near Upton are now aware as I have told them this evening so they will check here for updates etc. Just a thought-the Air Ambulance Base is next to the services but no idea how you access the place otherwise could be an idea for them to be aware. They may just spot something if they are leaving the base or coming in. Keep safe little lad.x.Last edited: 2011-05-10 23:27:49 by Beaglemum
Maggie
There is a minor road bridge over the M5 close to the service station. It would be easy for him to be either side of the motorway without having to run across the motorway (well lets hope he doesn't try crossing the motorway).
Lizzy re posting, might help you to know: someone has already put posters in Ryall on the Upton side of A38. I've left one at the Bluebell, Ryall on Strensham side of A38, several in Upton, The Jockey at Baughton, The Oak at Defford, farm shop Defford and around Defford village. My understanding (although I haven't checked) is that Twyning & Strensham have been covered. If we haven't found Spencer by Friday I will leave one at the Defford Quay Marina (they only open at w/ends), people going up and down the Avon will be quite close to where Spencer went missing. I wonder if anyone dropped one into Strensham Marina whilst postering Strensham?

Not sure why, maybe Mollychops can update later- the sightings are now being reported as being "unconfirmed" on Spencers facebook page.

Received posters today (thankyou Mollychops) checked before I left and saw not to go because they didn't want too many people around. Shall I go tomorrow? and if so, where shall I poster because if he has crossed M50, is it best to head towards Stratford way and Naunton? Liz xxLast edited: 2011-05-10 18:53:41

Could I emphasise to anyone not familiar with this lovely breed, that shelties can be shy, flighty and very hard to catch. Patience, calm slow movements, quiet voices, and going low to the ground, all the usual things we need to remember when looking for a dog running loose ... and ten times more so for a sheltie.
Mollychops
He must have crosed the M50 !
Mollychops
lets hope he is safe soon, will update with owners soon as I can
Beaglemum
I go through the Strensham area once a week and if he is not in the blue by Thursday I will have a drive around in case I get a sighting though obviously keep at a distance if I do see him.
With all the awareness now I hope he will be home and safe soon. Show yourself Spencer.xxx.
Maggie
Everything crossed for Spencer. Hope he can be a brave boy and let himself be rescued, he must be so scared.
dinkydoodle
Come on Spencer!

Fingers tightly crossed for this little boy xx

2 sightings this morning in the vicinity of Twyning, Spencers help team is there now. Michelle is asking for people to keep clear of area for now but sends her thanks to everyone helping . Fingers crossed for them to successfully and safely find him. Bumping.xLast edited: 2011-05-10 12:41:48 by ESSJ - Area Co-ordinator Rutland
Maggie
Headed towards Strensham to do postings and spotted Animal Search UK vehicles. They are also out looking for Spencer. Apparently they were with a TV crew and someone from DogLost (I think they said Jane?), so sounds as though we could be getting good coverage. Useful contact as it saved us duplicating areas. One of the places we went to was Revills farm shop (Defford) & found a handwritten poster put up by Spencers owners, so we just added Spencers photograph for completeness.
I do hope he is found soon.
Mollychops
Thanks kelsley, Shelties Mum and Maggie, great work going on. All Worcs rescues are aware now. Lets hope there is a sighting soon

Remember it's highly likely will come back to the spot he went missing as it's his most familiar area. Paying for an early reunion. Sylv xx
Maggie
So sorry he is still missing. Will do some postering this afternoon. I live in the area but following an accident I am unable to walk far so cannot go out searching.
I assume you have tried WARS (Malvern), Danemere (Worcester), Canine Defence (Evesham) and Cheltenham Animal Rescue?
