Fantastic News - Milo is a superstar x

Hi. I thought you might like to know that Milo was at Crufts today and won the Best Puppy in Breed award. After what happened to him last July and the thought that we might never see him again, this has got to be one of the best days of our life! Love to everyone who is still looking for their dog, we hope this gives you some encouragement. Take care all love Cathy and Nigel (Lola and Milo too...) xx

Hi. Thought you might like to know that Milo went to Bakewell Show today like we always planned and won Best Puppy and Reserve Best in Breed! He was amazing! So many people wanted to know about him and his 'story' that eventually I ended up talking to Radio Derby about him. It was a lovely day even though my legs are suffering again after running around a showring...never mind it was worth it. Take care all Cathy x

Absolutely fantastic news - welcome back Milo. Friends in our Suffolk village went to Clumber Park yesterday, unaware of Milos loss, and came home last evening to say "did you know their is a Spinone missing?" so it was wonderful to be able to tell them he was home! Just makes you wonder how often you had been in touching distance through the week, but all is now well. Bet he has eaten and slept well back at home!
Dudley
We are overjoyed to hear Milo is safe and sound. We saw the posters on Thursday while walking with our dogs in Clumber, and we looked around, wishing we could help. And now, like everyone else, we are crying tears of joy. Love to Milo and Nigel and Cathy.
DogLostOwl
And must not forget - a big thank you to Catherine Walker for all her valuable help.
direct_debi
Hi, I'm so pleased to hear you got Milo back safe and sound. I was one of the Yorkshire Bank volunteers that was at Clumber Park on Tuesday and spoke to Nigel about him, we were looking for him whilst working and asked Roy, the National Trust park ranger to keep us informed but I was so worried I've been checking this website every day since to check on progress. I'll let everyone who I was with know because I know they'll be well chuffed to hear he's been found. Give him a tickle under the chin from me, bless his heart x Best wishes, Debi
Nigel and Cathy
Apologies for not mentioning Phoebe and Wispa the wonder dog who gave us the faith that he was still around the park by tracking after him for miles and miles, Bless you both xx Hope to see you at some point in the future. Thanks also to the wonderful staff at Clumber Park.
Nigel and Cathy
Well I have very few words at the moment, so Milo wanted to tell you that after the week he has had he is so glad to be home! He was very surprised to see that his taxi had finally arrived after waiting nearly a whole week for it, but it did have some tasty snacks inside. He was shocked to see his Mum hugging 2 strange cyclists though and they were all shouting and dancing about... must be something to do with the air around here. He wanted to tell you that he has lost 2kg in weight and has sore eyes but other than that he is fine, just needs lots of rest and tasty treats... A HUGE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU. Everyone at Doglost for their tremendous support and info on other organisations etc, the very many people who were coming to help look for him and the wonderful people who have been with us throughout this week with help, support, food, a hug and tremendous determination to find him when we were doubting it could be done (especially Brian and Jackie, Lyn and Gemma, Rowena and Lesley, Yvonne and Paul and our families and best friend Judi who kept us going when times were hard. The many others who travelled from far to have a walk around and maybe pick up Milo) But most of all a huge thankyou to Shelley for her help and motivation and the fantastic Kate who has co-ordinated everything for us and seems to be able to magic up any solution for any problem. We love you all xx

Like others, am sitting at PC and filling up here, brilliant news (and a brilliant site this!) so happy for you, woohooo, hope he's OK and give him a cuddle from us. NB THIS MAY HELP OTHER BROWN ROAN SPINONE OWNERS FOR THE FUTURE:- Have had 2 going back 14 years now, and living on the edge of moorland where there is deep heather and bracken which is a complete camouflage for them, I took to attaching 2-3 large catbells on a trigger clip to their collars when going for walks, which has been an absolute lifesaver when they dodge off after rabbits and disappear for half an hour ...
DogLostOwl
So happy to get the news his morning. Donnybluewayne, thanks for your offer. It is good to have an experienced person in the area who can help with dogs gone awol in the forest, and we will certainly give you a shout if another one goes missing anywhere around there. We are enjoying a quiet day at home with our feet/paws up. Wispa has decided to have a duvet day, which is a rare thing for a GSPx.
Shereen

Hi - I'm sitting here at my computer crying tears of pure joy!! I have a gorgeous Spinone of my own and I'm a friend of Caroline and Eddie whose car hit Milo, they've been terribly upset all week and we've been checking the website every ten minutes - I've just rung them to say he is back home and I can't tell you how happy and relieved they are (I think Eddie had to pick Caroline up off the floor!!) They are desperately sorry about the whole thing but overjoyed he is safe. Lots of love to Milo, from Chris M and Alfie the Spinone

Thanks so much for the call wickedweims - so many tears of joy so early in the morning ! What a fantastic result for Milo's owners who have worked so very very hard to get their beautiful boy back home safe, the scenting and the feeding in the area have obviously kept him close by. A massive thanks to Owl and Wispa who located the area in the park that he was hiding out in. Big celebrations in your house tonight and some blister relief I belive ;-)). There could be a big party in the park now with so many people gathered to search. The park rangers and estate managers have been brilliant whilst Milo has been missing so big thanks to them too ..with that in mind please start to remove any posters that you see on your travels.Thankyou

Have just spoken with Donnybluewayne
Donnybluewayne
Where would I be best to park to start my efforts please, still confused as to where he actually went missing, there seems to be confusion over the name of the road. Ring me on 07957 265077 to clarify please someone, as setting off shortly. Only live other side of Retford. I have vast experience of tracking dogs/trapping dogs etc gained from CDDRS Chichester and District Dog Rescue Society, actually based at Rowlands Castle nr Portsmouth. Has anyone tried a trap baited with his favourite food along a trail he is known to have been on. Must be very hungry by now...I know for a fact Bawtry Mayflower dog rescue have one which I feel sure they would let you borrow ?
DogLostOwl
Donnybluewayne, best thing is of you phone owner (number on poster) and co=ordinate efforts. I know exactly where he was sighted but am not inclined to state on a public board which anyone may read. ALL SEARCHERS PLEASE NOTE: it is very important that Milo is not flushed out of the area he has been occupying, or he could end up anywhere in Clumber, Welbeck or Thoresby and we would be back to square one. Wispa and I returned home to Wales today, it is chance that we were close by visiting family and could help with tracking. As Milo had 12 hours start on us, all I expected was that Wispa would tell is where he went and where he was likely to have ended up. She followed his trail from the point he ran off, through to the point where his people started their walk. Then he went down the road and swung left into the Welbeck estate, not using the main track but a gallops running parallel to it with tyre jumps across. After a couple of hours we ended up at Thoresby private woods, Wispa had come to the limits of her concentration for one day, and we needed to seek permission to go further. On Tuesday we returned to that point and trekked through the forest all the way to a point on the main road where a broad track heads into Clumber and down to Hardwick Village. The trail led over the bridge on the ford and continued along the metalled road, finally turning towards the main entrance. At this point, having done 3 hours of tracking at a Wispa-speed forced march, we had to call it a day and assume Milo was headed back to the area from which he originally went missing. 2 days later came the sighting, and we took up the trail again. Wispa followed him round a circular route, including the area of the sighting, and also including paths he regularly walks with his people. We found a number of recent pawprints. Wispa was allowed to search offlead and was air scenting him somewhere in the neighbourhood, but the undergrowth is very thick there and the trail was confused as obviously he had been running up and down and all around that area. There was little we could do except rely on food to lure Milo out. It was frustrating knowing that he was quite near, but we didn't want to alarm him. We would like to thank all the staff on Clumber, Welbeck and Thoresby estates for their support and for allowing us to follow the trail through private land. Good luck tomorrow folks and please proceed calmly and quietly. Thank you all for your help.
Donnybluewayne
Can anyone confirm exactly where the little chap has been sighted PLEASE !
Rafferty
both Nottingham Football Clubs have kindly let me post up the details + link to here on their various forums for fans (which are pretty popular) even tho I support a different club; hope this means plenty more pairs of eyes keeping a general lookout. All the best. Huge difficulties logging in here at the mo btw - correct user and password, but keep getting messages that they're incorrect ..have to keep re-setting
Donnybluewayne
So...is it Piper lane on the Carburton Road ?? It is rather important peeps !

Where exactly was he sighted and is it Pimpers Lane ??? Been referred to as something else too ? Will do what you want me to tomorrow, open to offers.
Nigel and Cathy
Hi. Oh what an awful day. We really thought this was the day but sadly not. Been there forever today and we could not find him. Then we were approached by some very strange men as we sat having a coffee in the torrential rain around 10.30pm. The perfect end to the day. Will maybe see some of you tomorrow. Thanks again for your amazing support you are fantastic. *****So happy about Oscar****

All the best for tomorrow Nigel and Cathy, everyone on the Spinoni Facebook pages cross posting for you and wishing for Milo's speedy return, if there is anything we can do don't hesitate to ask
BANNONBRIG SPINONI
Good Luck with everything...hope your boy is soon found; have asked all my facebook friends who may live or walk their dogs in that area to cross post the details about Milo. Hope he's back home with you soon.
DogLostAngus
Wid - it is unlikely that he will come to anyone immediately as he has been living on his wits for the last few days - if you do see him - do not run towards him or shout - talk in a calm soft voice make yourself as small ( crouch down or lie on the floor - gently throw food towards him and let him come towards you for food ) you may have to sit down and chat to him for a while to gain his trust. This is totally normal for any dog who has been out for a few days
Simonslady
Come on baby show yourself ... Oscar is home your turn now xx
Wid
Just got back from walking round and about Pimples Lane area for an hour and a half and nothing to report I'm afraid. Fair amount of people about though all looking and keeping their eyes out so hopefully someone will see him soon. Would he approach strangers if called?
Nigel and Cathy
Hi just back to sort some stuff. No sightings yet, a couple of maybe's. We went at 5.30 to cook him a bbq in the woods near to where he was seen but nothing. We have got the dog trap and will start sorting that today. Search is still on tomorrow I presume at this stage, the Pimples Lane area is where we are concentrating on but to be honest wherever you park, if you search around that will help. Kate can you let the Park know that there could be a lot of people around tomorrow please? Lots of helpers today are still out looking, will let you know anything new, PLEASE GOD today....x
DogLostAngus
HI Wid - as Pimpers Lane area was confirmed sighting of him I wouls say yes concentrate on this area today - take smelly food such as pilchards or tuna but not too much as the plan is to set up a feeding station tonight for him which we need him to be hungry for but small scraps of food will keep him interested in the area. Good luck to everyone on the ground searching for him - heres hoping that tonights the night xx
Wid
We are able to go back up Clumber a bit later on. Should we still be concentrating on the Pimples Lane area?
Jackie
Good news that he's been seen, fingers crossed here too, am in all day again in Retford if I can help at all (don't drive) thinking of you all.
Pipski Maripski
Just to say if anyone is posting on a forum about him or Oscar you have to every so often re-post a bit of news, to keep them at the top of the list and in people's minds! Fingers crossed it's Friday and he is found for the weekend! I was dreaming about Milo last night can't get him or Oscar out of my head.
Rafferty
At least it's July and the nightime weather has been mild and mostly dry ...and he has a good coat on him...with you in spirit and crossing everything for a good outcome ...
Nigel and Cathy
Hi. Just back. Still no sign. He has given us the runaround all day. We are going back in the morning around 5am to make him a bbq. We have put his cage/den near to the place he was seen with all his stuff in and covered it up. We would love to get there in the morning and he is asleep in it. We have been there for around 15 hours but that few seconds when he was seen looking quite well and ok make up for the long hours. Thanks so much for your kind thoughts and suggestions and to the many people who have turned out again today. We will all have to meet for a party when this is over! Thanks Shelley for your message it really helps. Will keep you all posted through the website as the phones are hopeless xx
jules

braccoboy
Hi Cathy and Nigel, I know you must be totally and utterley exhausted, your mind almost plays tricks on you at this stage as your are going towards major fatigue stage, and feel absolutely deflated - BUT you must take care of yourselves, Milo will need you both when he gets home, and so please do rest up as much as you feel you can. It's one thing Jon and I didn't do enough of and we were almost rambling incoherently to people as we walked about like robots on auto pilot. If you get yourself a good sleep tonight, tomorrow you will feel fresh and ready to tackle the day with gusto. It's advice which we really ignored, and looking back, were silly to as I became very poorly shortly after no sleep for 2 weeks. On a happier note, I have had a lot of responses saying vets and dog wardens will be displaying and sharing Milo's (and Oscar's) posters. Rafferty, we already have a good deal of emailing going on, but always open to more help and ideas :o)) I have emailed about 200 vets and every dog warden I had on my Jacob list - my inbox tells me they have all been recieved as I must have about 150 "Thank You for contacting so and so council" replies ! All good ! I phoned a lady (information passed to me by the lovely receptionist at Davisons, Notts) - this lady runs a helpline for lost/accident/traffic loose animals etc, and took all the details, she said no dog like Milo (or even Oscar) has been reported hurt, so that made me feel a lot better. She will phone me or you if she hears anything or gets a call he's been seen somewhere. I am at work this weekend, so sadly can't help you search even though both Jon and I want to, but we'll be there in spirit, wishing Milo and Oscar home to you all. It will happen, I don't know why, I just feel it :o)) Will do what I can inbetween working, shout any ideas you might have and i'll do all I can for Milo and Oscar. Have to get both these boys home, and soon. Hugest hug to you all Shelley
Wid
Just got back from Clumber - walked the Pimpers Lane area for over an hour with no luck. We did hear a dog barking in that area, but unfortunately it was in the distance and could have been with someone. Still not giving up hope, and will be back again tomorrow. Keep safe Milo. Sharon x

Can we please ask that NO MORE POSTERS are put up on the Clumber Park Estate, this area is very well postered and some will have to be removed leaving key points postered. This will enable us to keep having the co-operation of the estates manager who is being fantastic. If your car is parked up please display posters in the rear windows

wickedweims
THE BARKING WAS HEARD IN PIMPERS LANE SO IF WE CAN CONCENTRATE IN THIS AREA
DogLostNina
ukcampsite.co.uk has some addresses for caravan sites in this area that could be contacted. If they were contacted perhaps any campers who were out and about could keep their ears amd eyes open to the fact that Milo is missing.
DogLostAngus
In view of the dg walkers report it is possible that Milo could be caught in undergrowth - if you have access to bramble equipment can you please carry heavy duty gloves, and some secutars incase he is trapped - please look low and deep into any dense undergrowth but keep to pairs not large grups so as not to scare him
wickedweims
cathy is at the park now this morning at six oclock someone reported hearing a dog similar to milo barking IF ANYONE CAN HELP TODAY PLEASE CAN THEY CONCENTRATE ON THE AREA THAT IS A BIKE TRACK JUST BEFORE THE PAY BOOTH ON THE RIGHT OF TRUMAN LODGE JUST OUTSIDE THE PAY BOOTH THERE ARE LOADS OF PATHS BUT THEY ALL LEAD TO WHERE MILO DISSAPEARED FROM THANKS

Nigel please can you post where you want us to meet on saturday, and at what time also can everyone whos going to come please bring posters and flyers of Milo with them so we can cover all the entrances to the park and cover all the cars if everyone who is coming could post on here sowe have a idea thanks
Lucoru
Hi Cathy & Nigel, I can help on Saturday but not until about 2pm again, as I have to work in the morning. I'll keep checking back on here to see if there's been any news, good luck today!
danibas
Hi Nigel and Kathy its Danielle with Macy ,my thoughts are with you at this time. Were going to come over on Sat to help look im just thinking that maybe you could have something that smells of Milo for any Dogs leaving that can track or are a sent hound like Macy i no its probably a long shot but you never no. Also where are you meeting at 10 limetree ave ? .
Rafferty
Had a further thought, throw it out if you think it's too wild a longshot, but I wondered if there's a possibility some well-meaning person/people thought he was abandoned, and decided to "adopt" him without going thru the proper channels? and if they weren't local, he could be in a different part of the country? To this end, what about mounting some kind of internet campaign? Most people have email contacts all over the UK for a start, and it wouldn't take much to email all our contacts with the missing Milo info + a photo, just in case somebody knows somebody who knows somebody ...who's unexpectedly acquired a Milo-like dog? Just a thought ...
wickedweims
Ok for you to go in the morning Nigel.also they said bbq were ok will check and get permission of chief ranger in the morning
Rafferty
Also own a brown roan young dog Spinone (13 months) in Yorks and feel for you so much, gut-wrenching looking at the photos, he looks such a character. Thinking of you and crossing everything.
Nigel and Cathy
I forgot to mention that we have made him a shelter near to the place where our car was parked on Sunday before his accident. We have taken his indoor cage and covered it. There is a fleece from home and food and water in it. I will be out at 6.30am to check it. Kate could you check with the Park that this is OK. We never asked permission as it was a spur of the moment idea this evening. Could you also ask if we can have further bbqs as we were forbidden by the security guard tonight. Thanks all xx
Nigel and Cathy
Hi again a massive thanks for all your kindness and help. Milo went into the woods on the other side of Limetree Ave from the lake. Shelley you are a star, thanks for all the info and the flyers have been very well received by the public at large. We still have NO news. Not even a sighting. I think he is very good at hide and seek, or maybe that he has been stolen. The phone network is bad in Clumber so if anyone wants to call me during daylight hours, I am usually there on 07538964576, if that does not work try 07986625615. The idea of a mass search is something I have thought of. I was thinking of meeting at 10am on Saturday morning and with advice from Phoebe the tracking lady, have been told that a couple of people at a time should go off together looking for him as too many people may frighten him. He will be in the Worksop Guardian + Dinnington Guardian this Friday and 2 other papers next week. I will also ring the local radio station and ask for further volunteers. Anyone with dogs which like to track are more than welcome. Tomorrow I will leaflet as much of the surrounding areas as possible. We are trying to stay positive but to be honest I, particularly, am starting to struggle.... Thanks so much for all your help you are an incredible group of people who I am priviledged to have found in my life. I wonder how I got by without you. No we must try to sleep but it is so hard when you think you have abandoned him for a fourth night in the dark. This is something that will never leave me and haunts my every second...x
Jackie
We've driven through a few times and walked through the woods part way down Lime Tree again, but no luck sadly.
Lauren88
Im so sorry to hear about Milo. My dad (Phil) and Frisco have been helping the search tonight and i will go up tomorrow night after work to search again!
Wid
I've just spent an hour and a half walking the woods near Gate Lodge, but nothing I'm afraid. I had my two PBGVs with me who usually pickup on any noise or scent, but no luck. Thinking of you and keeping everything crossed that Milo is safe somewhere. Sharon x
wickedweims
I amsuggesting that we arrange a large search party this weekend if we stillhave nonews if we cover all entrances and handout posters to every vehiclewe may spot this lad please post on here if you can help
Wid
Yes it would be helpful to know which side of the road he bolted to.
Tricia
Can you tell me at which point along Lime Tree Avenue Milo went missing and if he ran towards the Clumber/lake side of the avenue or towards the other side ? If he's gone to ground it might be appropriate to search undergrowth close to the accident. I'm heading to Clumber this afternoon and would like to help.
braccoboy
I was so hoping that the tracking dog would find your boy Cathy and Nigel, but sometimes these dogs do go to ground and go to ground TOO WELL, and being as he's a baby he might just be waiting out somewhere cleverly and not moving about at all. It's a case of trek, trek and trek some more. POster everywhere and anywhere, and don't be prpud to ask for help doing any of that. If I wasn't working i'd be there like a shot. I have today emailed all of the local vets to you, many had no email address they'd give out so gave full descriptions etc, and asked them to scan any incoming Spins. Some had already got your details. Also I am just collating a massive email for both Oscar and Milo, I had collected pretty much ( I think!) a good list of email address for every dog warden in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales ! That email will go in a while, so they can be informed he is missing too. Best to just mass email and cover all options at this stage. Great to get an ad in the papers, ring them with the story, they will run it for free as it's of 'human interest' and our local paper said the 'doggy' stories are ones they get the most interest and feedback about, so go full on and tug at heartstrings, which of course won't be hard to do :o(( I'll email you the 4 to a page flyers now cathy, but wishing today to be the days for Oscar and of course Milo to be home safe where they belong

Hi I too went looking last night and walked from Gate Lodge up and round to the other side of the lake. I'm sure you've done this area well, but if he's on the move I was hoping I might catch a glimpse. I was armed with chicken and a spare lead, but no look I'm sorry to say. I don't know where you live Cathy, but is there a route he would take to try and get home? Sharon xLast edited: 2010-07-28 08:31:05 by Wid

Good morning all and many thanks for all your help and advice. We did the bbq and stayed around until after 2am this morning. There was no sign of him but we left his fleece blanket and some of his food and a pair of Nigels socks to remind him of home. I have contacted all vets, Police, dog wardens, Rspca, local kennels and today will speak to a local newspaper. SHelley if you could send the flyer page to us that you have made up that would be great so we can do more door knocking in the area. We will go the local pubs in the area and make sure no-one has tried to sell him on. Thanks again, you are all stars...xx

Looked again this evening, no luck again sorry. Theres a place called 'Gate Lodge' at the end of Clumber Park, it says they breed border collies, I wondered if they're aware in case they see him. I've put Milo on my Facebook and printed posters for mine and husbands workplaces, I'll take one to the local petfood suppliers tomorrow. Good luck.

I so feel for you, I lost my spin Sira a few months back, she bolted off the lead. she ran for miles and miles, but she was found not far from where she escaped, she had tracked back and gone to ground, she was hiding under a very thick gorse bush all night till some dog walkers found her and contacted the local dog warden. Please check all the woody areas he will be hiding up somewhere. good luck.

Hi All I have today emailed everyone on my 'Jacob' list - so I do hope that at the very least people will be aware of both Milo and of Oscar being missing. I've also made up some flyers, ones that fit 4 small posters to an A4 sheet, so if anyone would like those, just email me at haggerwoods@aol.com Already having a lot of replies from companies and individuals who are adding them to their relevant websites etc or just sharing the information with friends and family. Nigel and Cathy, my heart goes out to you, knowing how helpless you feel right now, it's the most awful feeling in the world. I truly hope that Milo is safe wherever he is and that Pheobe and Wispa can locate him today,or that bbq can entice him out of his hiding place (he is a Spinone after all bless him!) Have you thought about an ad in the local newspaper or free paper ? Get in touch with the editor, give them the whole story and they should see this as a good (sorry) news story and run it in the next edition with photo's - Right now any free publicity is good publicity and it will make him too hot to handle if anyone has him on their sofa. Most all we're thinking of you and Jonathan - keep searching for your boys - they are both out there somewhere. Shelley xLast edited: 2010-07-27 11:38:46 by braccoboy

Hello. Thanks to all for their kind words and thoughts about Milo. He is still missing. We will be out again tomorrow with the tracker dog, Wispa and her owner Phoebe who were sent to us from Doglost. They are fantastic so hopefully we should find him. Will keep you updated. Cathy

Poor Milo, I'm going to Clumber Park tomorrow with work so I'll look out for him and ask my colleagues to keep their eyes open too. I hope he's found soon.

Hi - As the owner of a much loved Spinone myself, I was heartbroken to read this - it was actually a friend of mine, Caroline, whose car hit Milo. She is absolutely devastated, she has a dog herself, and is desperate to know that Milo has been found. She and her husband stayed to help with the search but when they got back to your car, they found it had gone, so they were hoping he had been found. Then I looked on the website this morning and saw your post. Please let us know on christin.malkin@talk21.com that he is safe, and how he is. Thank you, Christine Malkin (owner of Alfie - Alfigio Berti).

Hi, I’m sorry to hear Milo is missing. Someone will try to make personal contact with you as soon as possible, to offer advice and help. Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres. Give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars. You can find vets in your own area by clicking on the green logo which says “Find Any UK VET”, on the right hand side of the page under the “latest missing dogs” photo - top right. You can also add comments and update the dog’s status, e.g.sightings, re-united etc. by clicking on “add a comment” at the bottom of the page. If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and at the same time, check that all details held, are up to date. You can obtain a “MISSING” poster from "view poster" above. You can only print posters when you are signed in. Start postering now! I CANNOT EMPHASISE HOW VERY IMPORTANT THIS IS. If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be re-homed legally, after 7 days if it has no identification (microchip or ID disk attached), so please try to visit rescue centres, to look for your dog, give them a poster and keep in touch with them every few days.. Do not rely on checking by phone alone, as other people may not recognise your dog by your description.
