when Clara's mum and myself went looking on Dartmoor last week - the 2 beardie cross's that live in a cottage at the bottom of Hound Tor are also identical to the Beast photos they are also allowed to run freely on the moor Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, owner has seen photos of the beastie and agrees they are similar to Clara. In my humble opinion they look more like Clara than the newfie.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I saw on a local news broadcast this morning that someone claims that the "beast" of Dartmoor is her Newfoundland dog. She seems quite positive of that!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just has telephone call from a lovely ice cream man, who is in the area, he has seen the posters and sees the similarity. He will be on site later to print off posters and display in his van. Thank you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Claras Mum
Went out on Dartmoor tonight with Jane Scott and after distributing some posters called at a cottage next to where the 'beast' was seen. The owner had a dog and a bitch - both resmbling a slightly shorter- haired Clara - and either of which could DEFINITELY be the mystery animal - especially as they roam about on the moor. It's all a bit strange - especially as everyone seems to know about the 'beast' - but we came away sure that these dogs account for possible sightings on the moor. So - sadly - no more news of Clara at the moment.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Really appreciate everyone's help. Area of sighting is TQ13 - and I'll go out later this p.m. and start putting posters up in the area. Photographer insists photos were taken before Clara went missing, so it's all a bit of a mystery -but one photo really does look like Clara. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just to let people know, we haven't stopped looking for Clara, but the frustration is - no sightings. I do a quite a bit of cycling around the area and I am always looking in fields, across the hillsides etc. The posters are still up around the area, in shop window etc. I feel the sightings on dartmoor certainly look like a beardie, and makes me wonder if one is missing on Dartmoor, but as Jazzi states, this sighting appears to be 9th June which is a bit early for Clara. I hope we can find Clara soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well if that story is correct it rules out Clara, because these were reported on 9th June. Clara went missing on 22nd. Will do some digging to check dates etc.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sharp eyed Sherlock was watching GMTV to see a discussion on unknown beasts being sighted around the UK. One in particular was a shaggy looking large animal known to be wandering Dartmoor. I have seen a photo although not a clear precise one, but it does look very similar to Clara. This photo has now been emailed to owner and we await owners reponse.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a phone call at 8.30 this morning (Tues) saying Clara was seen on Sunday p.m. about 3 miles from home, in a different direction to where we've been mainly looking - out towards Kentisbeare/Sheldon - just off the main Honiton road. Seemed to think it was definitely Clara - looking very wet and muddy. Went out and put up posters but no sign of her - husband will go again later. Hopefully newspaper item today will help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't know if Clara would be able to hunt rabbits - she enjoys chasing them but that's not quite the same is it? Not sure about bins either - but she does like foraging. Had photo in local free paper on Friday and article going in Mid-Devon Gazette on Tuesday so hopefully that will widen awareness. Main problem still seems to be that she may be miles from any people at all! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Claras Mum, have sent you a PM. Is Clara a dog who could hunt rabbits etc for herself, or would she be more likely to head for dustbins?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Possible sighting was in a tiny hamlet about 4-5 miles from home (Crossparks). Have been out twice now and visited farms and put up more posters as well as searching the lanes and fields, but no more clues. Of course we don't really know if it was Clara or not so we may not be in the right area. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We still have no news of Clara and are missing her loads. Does anyone have any other suggestions? We have contacted all the agencies, vets etc and distributed some posters/flyers, but we live in a very rural area with miles and miles of fields around, so it seems like an impossible task. We think Clara is likely to have headed for countryside as she is quite nervy and probably won't automatically go to people. Any suggestions/help welcomed. Thanks.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As soon as Admin receives a photograph, the poster will be emailed out to helpers. Posters need to be displayed as soon as possible on notice boards, lamp posts, entrances to parks, dog bins and on cars. Take posters to vets, pet shops, postmen (for sorting offices), milkmen, dustmen, street cleaners, taxi drivers, schools, pubs, youth clubs, newsagents, post offices, takeaways, dog training clubs, supermarkets and car parks. Hand out reduced-down posters or cards to people - especially dog walkers - and deliver to houses and businesses. Police stations, Dog Wardens, the RSPCA and all rescue centres need checking frequently and preferably visited in person by owner or someone who knows Clara well. Good Luck Clara x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
