Unbelievable and very frustrating !
Bonnies' mum
On BBC 1 teletext this am, page 160, local news. It says Marie Staniforth was released last Friday after an appeal court found the sentence was 'disproportionate'!!!
I believe she has some sort of role within Cumbria Police. I do hope this didn't bring any influence to bear in any way!!
Bo
No idea

neds previous owner was an intelligent successful busineswoman - can anyone on doglost explain to me why she would allow her dog to suffer to the point of very nearly starving to death? there are lots of folk who are just thick and some evil ones who like to torment/starve/injure their animal victims......... but marie staniforth/tattersall appeared not to fall under these categories.......

rspca inspector martyn fletcher thankyou especially and all the rspca team responsible for saving this dogs life and getting the owner prosecuted. perhaps some courts are just beginning to acknowledge the seriousness of animal abuse....

What a brilliant update, Ned is absolutely beautiful. So well done all his rescuers. I really hope Ned and his new family have many happy years together. Thanks Bo for the update as well on the court case. At least it would appear that the court took this case seriously.(But probably just as well I wasn't doing the sentencing !!!! )

The woman who did this to Spot was convicted this week for this act of cruelty, jailed for 18 weeks plus given a life time ban from owning animals.

From RSPCA FB page "We are delighted to finally be able to update and share the story about 'Spot' who was subject to cruelty by starvation. Thank you to the public for all your genuine concerns, love and best wishes for this dog. Ned (formally known as Spot) has a new great life in the Midlands. He lives with a very special couple and their extended family of 4 legged friends! We could not have asked for a more wonderful home for him, he is truly adored and wanted. He is a big part of his new owners lives and we are so happy to see how well he is doing, all because of his new owners. They have poured their lives into this dog over the past few months, enabling his recovery and it shows! he is now completly adored, has a full belly and enjoys life. Huge thank you to both of you and your 4 legged friends for making this possible. You have played a big part in this story.
A huge thank you to Whinmill farm Kennels for their expert care for the dog on his arrival and throughout his stay, such an amazing team of people who nursed him back to a stable health 24/7 along with huge input from our vets.
Thank you to all our RSPCA team for their dedication and constant help. All volunteers and all greatly appreciated.
Last but not least, the biggest Thank you goes to 'Martyn Fletcher' our Inspector who has worked tirelessly on this case, without his prompt, professional input this dog would not have been so lucky. We are proud of his hard work for this beautiful dog and proud we are there to support him as our inspector. Without a dout, Ned aka 'Spot' owes his life to you! Well done from everyone!"

Marie Staniforth/Tattersall has a domestic abuse advocacy role with Cumbria Police. Hopefully Cumbria Police might be a bit wiser in who they choose to do that role, once they find out about 'Spot'Last edited: 2016-09-09 11:38:04 by Katie783

Thank you for the update Bo fingers crossed that Spot is still improving .

Ms Staniforth "failed to act, namely by unreasonably failing to adequately investigate and treat the cause of its poor body condition."

The two-year-old dog, called Spot by the RSPCA, was found on the Leconfield Industrial Estate in Cleator Moor in February.

The trial is now set for September 27 and 28 at Workington Magistrates' Court.

The irony that she has won awards for care! Named and shamed, hope that justice prevails for poor Spot x

"Accused of causing unnecessary suffering to lurcher "Spot": Marie Staniforth/Tattersall, 31, of Rutland Ave, Whitehaven, Cumbria

Staniforth, who is managing director of Acorns Preschool, Leconfield Estate, Cleator Moor, and has won several childcare and business awards, had been due to attend a hearing at Workington Magistrates’ Court on 30 May. She did not appear and the case has now been adjourned until June 14.

The charge states that Staniforth “failed to act, namely by unreasonably failing to adequately investigate and treat the cause of its poor body condition.”

Two-year-old Spot was found near the defendant's business premises in February.

An investigation was launched by the RSPCA to trace Spot’s owners after his discovery.

No plea has been indicated by the defendant."

Thanks Bo. X

Yes Spot is doing well. The media coverage of their appeal resulted in a number of telephone calls with information, which the RSPCA have spent the past couple of weeks following up on, and their investigation is on-going. As the case is now active, they can't say any more at this time." This update was from a few days ago.

Update from Martyn Fletcher (RSPCA) "Martyn Fletcher He's doing well. Started on the long road to recovery. Been back to the vets today for further tests. All looks good - even started to gain a little weight. I'm sure we'll post pics in a few weeks when things have been resolved. "
So far so good for Spot

No excuse for treating these sweet gentle dogs like this. If you don't want it dumping it would be the better option, but locking it away and starving it? Just wicked.
ClaireC
There is Esther just its unprintable! Poor poor dog I hope that there is no further underlying damage that will stop this boy from making a good recovery. I am sure that there is that extra special loving home waiting for him to belong to xLast edited: 2016-02-19 14:30:44 by ClaireC

There are no words to describe how sad this is.

Oh my.

"The RSPCA launched an investigation after a dog was found in such an appalling condition it has been described as "literally skin and bones".

The lurcher-type dog was found on the Leconsfield Industrial Estate, Leconsfield Street, Cleator Moor, on Tuesday.

Named Spot by the RSPCA, the distinctively-coloured animal is currently being cared for in Cumbria by specially-trained staff.

RSPCA inspector Martyn Fletcher said: “He is the skinniest dog I think I’ve ever seen alive, literally skin and bones. He really is in a truly shocking state.

“An initial veterinary assessment suggests his body condition is down to starvation, rather than any underlying medical condition.”It’s believed that Spot, an un-neutered male, is about two years old.
When found earlier this week he wasn’t wearing a collar or ID tag, which is required by law, and hasn't been microchipped so at the moment there is no way of tracing his owner. “He is such an unusual coloured dog for a lurcher-type, white with Dalmation-type black spots, that we hope someone will recognise him,” added Mr Fletcher."
