Maria, please let us know if anything has been or is going on in the hunt for your dog, I need to know because I was about to ask a friend who has legal knowledge how we can proceed with this. If the police were negligent then that puts a different slant on things. Has anyone been in touch with the local paper, they really would be helpful, they would like a story like this and the chance to help and if I were the new owner I would only too readily return her even if it broke my heart, I would still do the right thing. There are still caring people out there and unless you have pursued every avenue you can't just leave it.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This dog is so distinctive if you put lots of poster up and also saying how the dog was taken from this man it will make him hot to hot to hold on to, Also the papers would help if you tell them the story. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Maria, sorry I've come in on this one quite late. Is there specific information/assistance you want from the police? If so there are some ways that can encourage them to help. They simply won't go out and try and look for her or someone who may have her (because they have priorities and quite rightly so) but if there is something that needs actioning now, it might be possible to actually get them to move and look at it. I have to say though from reading back, if Wayra entered the stray system and was rehomed through the rules applying via a pound and then via rescue, it does I'm afraid become civil and even we can't persuade the police to assist then. Hi Jayne, No luck here the police are about as co operative as a brick wall. Might get more co operation from a brick wall. They keep telling me its not there problem but she was stolen so that makes it there problem. I have been offline for a while and it seems to make no difference the police are not doing there job. What do I do now? I am guessing the papers would be equally as uninterested? I need a miracle to sort this. Please call me jayne if you know anything. Thanks MariaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Been told a husky type dog was walking round on a rope with a man at Banham Boot Sale last weekend with cardboard round its neck saying forsale. They also had small puppys but not this breed. I think the boot sale is near the Zoo but not sure. Sorry I dont know anymore than this.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is a female Siberian Husky on dogsblog, 2 yr old , light coloured with piercing blue eyes. It is at St. giles kennels in Somerset. Has this dog been checked out? It was posted on dogsblog on July 4thLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Owl. I was rushing out the door this morning as I noticed the Pound Husky but I agree, no stone unturned etc. Nearly dismissed Wayra as the photo is brown and white but then noticed that it's not her and she's actually grey and white. Hopefully Bunzara will be online later today.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

At last a sensitive policeman has looked into this and is going to arrange a meeting with the new owners and Maria just so we can establish it is the same dog and then hopefully things can move forward.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If Wayra was purchased from a breeder then might be possible to take a dna sample which should match. This has been done before to help establish ownership. Sadly true that some areas are blessed with more pro active police when it concerns dog theft ect than others - a lottery really.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The trouble is Mayra's original owner needs to be able to prove the dog was originally hers. That is a hard thing to do even with a microchip. I understand the rehoming centre has done the right thing. Bit of a nightmare situation I think.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I totally agree that Maria should get her dog back. However i don't know if the law works that way. It's seems in this country dogs are futher down the stolen property chain than a kids psp would be. Only hope is to put an ad out and pray the people who adopted her do the right thing. I got Murf back because i was able to get the guy who had him on the phone and talk him round but without knowing where Wayra is i'm not sure what the next steps would be. I really hope this story has a happy ending alround though and there's news soon. XXXX Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree with tori - Wayra is in effect 'stolen property' and the new owner has no right to keep her - surely the rescue people in this situation should give the details of the new owner to the police for them to follow up and if this failed I would take this through the Civil Courts - especially as the owner is disabled. If I bought a car, in good faith, and then it transpired that it had been stolen, would I be allowed to keep it? I think not - we are talking about a companion dog for a blind lady here. Was Wayra handed in to the rescue by a individual or by the dog warden? Did the rescue check with the local dog wardens to see if a Husky had been reported missing? Any decent person who had innocently rehomed a stolen dog, would offer it back however hard it would be. The resuce could contact the people they had rehomed the dog to and make them aware that they had a stolen dog. Wayra belongs with her real owner, not the current keepers. Fingers crossed that she is home soonxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We believe the dog was re homed locally after it spent 3 months in a local kennels. We cannot name the kennels because they have acted entirely by the book. They cannot give the re home address to owner-again this is entirely correct procedure. Only if requested by police. Our other option is an appeal in the local press-we have not as yet e mailed posters to local helpers as it would be unfair on new owner as they are completely unaware of the situation and have done nothing wrong. This is a hard situation to be in.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is so sad . Seems like the police b**ls up again. When oh when are they going to show more compassion for our missing pets. I hope you can get Wayra back as she is legally yours. Where is the law gone to about receiving stolen goods. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think maybe a letter to the Chief Constable and ask for an enquiry and make sure you INSIST that the police recover Wayra and return her since stolen property.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If the police can't help, might be worth thinking about contacting a solicitor who ideally specialises in property law. Wayra was stolen, so she still is your dog and the keepers have stolen property. Would be best for all concerned if Wayra was returned without a civil court case. Hope this matter is resolved sooner rather than laterxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am in tears, I have just been told by the police that they may be unable to recover my Wayra and that it may be a civil matter. Even though she was stolen. I dont know what to do as I dont know where she is. I would appreciate anyones help or advice. We know that the found Dog 1002 is Wayra but it appears that I can do nothing to recover her. If only the police had done what they were supposed to do in September I wouldnt be at this situation now. Would appreciate any help. Thankyou Maria RositaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have really been let down by the police when i reported this they never officially listed it as an incident. I assume they thought I was another distraught owner reporting a missing dog. That means that there is not a reference number. I have just spoken to the police. It seems I may have found Wayra. But we are unable to be reunited. I am still waiting for the photo jayne (So i can show it to my friends). the email is salqa-wayquis@yachay-wasi.wanadoo.co.uk I guess the police didnt do anything as it was classed as unimportant and in the words of the officer I spoke to at the time@ it isnt there job" Now i dont know what to do i am at a complete loss. Any help appreciated. MariaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Certainly sounds like South Wimbledon to me and has been confirmed by OH. We can get the bus stop locations from the tfl site and work out which shops approximately Wayra would have been outside.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I believe Wimbledom South if you walk out the underground and turn Left and wlak down the ropad a distance and turn left again there are traffic lights cross the road by a round about (SAINSBURYS?) then cross another road. into abbey mills. I believe that wimbledon south has bus stops on the opposite side of the road from memory. Hope this helps. Thanks MariaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There were bus stops close to where she was tied as I aske3d people on the bus stops iof anyone had seen her. I was told that a man had been seen stroking and petting her and that they had assumed she was his. We were going to merton abbey mills Hope this is of some help. Thanks Maria. Date Wayra went missing is not precise I am trying to check my records As i was teaching braille on fridays (She was taken on the sat) around that time it was either the 10th or the 17th that she was taken. She did not have a chip ( i had only had her a few months)I cant think of anything else that will help at the moment. ThanksLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Wayra was taken when left outside a shop securely tied up whilst owner was allowed in with her other dog which is her guide dog. On speakig to some people at the bus stop they reported a man talking to the dog outside the shop and had presumed the dog was his. Owner does have a crime number.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I am Wayra's owner (Her name means wind) I am Blind and I have been asking everyone I know if I have a photo of my dog. Unfortunatley most of my friends are blind also. My friend that found the ad said that it has a photo. I am still looking around as I many have a photo that was taken by chance. She is grey and white she doesnt have a prominant mask (Its not very dark). She is quite lively and woo's/howls she is very strong and independant minded. A little nervous of new people but all over you when she got to know you. I am thinking hard of ways to identify her. My friend is certain that the photo on the found dog advert is of Wayra. Hoping she comes home soon. She was about 12 - 13 months old when she was taken. Please PM me if you have any ideas. Thanks Maria Apaza MarchaqaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owners friend looked at doglost last night ( maybe after coverage on tv?) and has matched the dog with found dog 1002-found around 20th September in same area. Owner has crime number but due to her blindness was unable to check the internet. Have traced dog down to kennels where it stayed till February-kennels are looking into the details of who has her now-Their is a good chance she was collected by Husky rescue-the name given to her by kennels is Woofie. We are waiting for more news-dog warden and kennels could not have been more helpful.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
